  • Most engineers, related to soil and civil dynamic field, have been interested in the direct dynamic design of building transmitted from soil and rock to structure due to blasting. However it is not easy to estimate the dynamic response of structures due to blasting by using analytical method because of difficulties of soil modeling, prediction of excitation force and so on. In this paper, dynamic analysis have been performed to predict vibration level and evaluate dynamic safety of structure adjacent to tunnel blast and the semi empirical method, which is based on vibration measurement data, has been employed to consider blast vibration characteristics.

  • Geogrid is widely used as the reinforcement materials in railway earth structures in order to achieve efficient land utilization as well as securing safety in railway service lines in other countries. In this study, the real scale test was carried out to investigate the application of geogrid reinforced soil segmental retaining walls(SRWs) in railway. For this goal, the vibration transfer characteristics of reinforced soil segmental retaining walls was evaluated. The resonant frequencies of SRWs, vertical ground vibration in backfill and vertical/horizontal vibration at segmental units were acquired. This experimental data and analysis result can contribute to understand the vibration response behavior of SRWs.

  • It is necessary to predict subway induced vibration if a new subway is to be built. To obtain the vibration response reliably, a three-dimensional (3D) FEM model, consisting of the tunnel, the soil, the subway load and the building above, is established in MIDAS GTS NX. For this study, it is a six-story frame structure built above line 3 of Guangzhou metro. The entire modeling process is described in detail, including the simplification of the carriage load and the determination of model parameters. Vibration measurements have been performed on the site of the building and the model is verified with the collected data. The predicted and measured vibration response are used together to assess vibration level due to the subway traffic in the building. The No.1 building can meet work and residence comfort requirement. This study demonstrates the applicability of the numerical train-tunnel-soil-structure model for the serviceability assessment of subway induced vibration and aims to provide practical references for engineering applications.

  • In this study, a method for free vibration analysis of wall-frame systems built on weak soil is proposed. In the development of the method, the wall-frame system that constitutes the superstructure was modeled as flexural-shear beam. In the study, it is accepted that the soil layers are isotropic, homogeneous and elastic, and the waves are only vertical propagating shear waves. Based on this assumption, the soil layer below is modeled as an equivalent shear beam. Then the differential equation system that represented the behavior of the whole system was written for both regions in a separate way. Natural periods were obtained by solving the differential equations by employing boundary conditions. At the end of the study, two examples were solved and the suitability of the proposed method to the Finite Element Method was evaluated.

  • Offshore wind turbine are subjected to more various loads than general land structures and the stability of structures is supported by the piles driven deeply in the subsoil. So it is more important for offshore structures to consider seabed soil-structure interaction than land structures. And the response of a fixed offshore structure supported by pile foundations is affected by resist dynamics lateral loading due to wave forces and ocean environmental loads. In this study, offshore wind tower response are calculated in the time domain using a finite element package(ANSYS 11.0). Several parameters affecting the vibration characteristics of the natural frequency and mode shape and the tower response have been investigated.

  • The soil-structure interactions are caused by the point sources of explosions, deriving piles, compaction of foundations and excavations those are frequently arose in the construction sites. Thus the analysis of soil-structure interactions is one of the most important subjects in the fields of dynamic analysis and vibration control. From this viewpoint, the aim of this study is to collect the basic data for designing foundation structures throughout understanding the dynamic structural behavior, which is embodied by the dynamic analysis of soil-structure systems. In this study, the dynamic analyses of stiffened thick plates subjected to in-plane stress on elastic foundations are carried out. The foundation is modeled as Pasternak foundation that includes the continuity effect of foundations. Also both the Mindlin plate theory and Timoshenko beam-column theory are used for analyzing the thick plates and beams, respectively.

  • In this research, vibration and smart control analysis of a concrete foundation reinforced by $SiO_2$ nanoparticles and covered by piezoelectric layer on soil medium is investigated. The soil medium is simulated with spring constants and the Mori-Tanaka low is used for obtaining the material properties of nano-composite structure and considering agglomeration effects. With considering first order shear deformation theory, the total potential energy of system is calculated and by means of Hamilton's principle in three displacement directions and electric potential, the six coupled equilibrium equations are obtained. Also, based an analytical method, the frequency of system is calculated. The effects of applied voltage, volume percent and agglomeration of $SiO_2$ nanoparticles, soil medium and geometrical parameters of structure are shown on the frequency of system. Results show that with applying negative voltage, the frequency of structure is increased.
