In this study sodium chloride solution is employed for chemicals, and several cylindrical triaxial tests are performed on the sand-bentonite mixtures saturated with sodium chloride solution. Deformation(elastic modulus, E) and strength(cohesion, c', and angle of friction, f') parameters are obtained from the triaxial tests as functions of confining pressure and sodium chloride solution concentrations. The results here indicate an increase in the value of effective cohesion with increase in the concentration of NaCl solution, which can be explained by using the Gouy-Chapman model. The value of the effective angle of shearing resistance does not show significant change with the increase in concentration of NaCl solution. The Young's modulus also increases with the increase in concentration of NaCl solution.
An alternating current (AC) corrosion on buried pipeline has been studied using coupon and ER probe. Coupons and ER probes were applied to the sites from high value of AC voltage to low value based on the survey of AC voltages on buried gas transmission pipeline over the country. Parameters such as AC current density of coupon, AC voltage, cathodic protection potential, soil resistivity and frequency were monitored continually. Corrosion induced by AC was observed even under cathodically protected condition that met cathodic protection criterion (; below -850 mV vs. CSE). Corrosion rate was affected mainly not by AC voltage but by both of frequency and AC current density. An experimental corrosion rate relation could be obtained according to effective AC current density, in which AC corrosion rate increased linearly with effective AC current density, and its slope was 0.619 in coupon method and 0.885 in ER probes.

Although DC ground resistance is a good index of performance for a grounding system, it does not reflect the grounding performance during the transient states. Besides, impulse ground impedance, which is defined by a ratio of the peak value of transient ground potential rise to the peak value of impulse current, cannot be an absolute performance index due to its dependence on impulse current shape. In this paper, a grounding performance of needle-typed ground rod has been compared with simple ground rod.
A footing located on slopes possess relatively lower bearing capacity as compared to the footing located on the level ground. The bearing capacity further reduces under seismic loading. The adverse effect of slope inclination and seismic loading on bearing capacity can be minimized by proving sufficient setback distance. Though few earlier studies considered setback distance in their analysis, the range of considered setback distance was very narrow. No study has explored the critical setback distance. An attempt has been made in the present study to comprehensively investigate the effect of setback distance on footing under seismic loading conditions. The pseudo-static method has been incorporated to study the influence of seismic loading. The rate of decrease in seismic bearing capacity with slope inclination become more evident with the increase in embedment depth of footing and angle of shearing resistance of soil. The increase in bearing capacity with setback distance relative to level ground reduces with slope inclination, soil density, embedment depth of footing and seismic acceleration. The critical value of setback distance is found to increase with slope inclination, embedment depth of footing and density of soil. The critical setback distance in seismic case is found to be more than those observed in the static case. The failure mechanisms of footing under seismic loading is presented in detail. The statistical analysis was also performed to develop three equations to predict the critical setback distance, seismic bearing capacity factor ($N_{{\gamma}qs}$) and change in seismic bearing capacity (BCR) with slope geometry, footing depth and seismic loading.

In this thesis the model tests were performed to the horizontal pull-out characteristics of a suction pile subjected to a pull in sands. For this model tests, soil conditions ($D_r$=65), three pile diameters (D=100, 150, 200mm) and five loading points (h/L=0, 0.25, 0.5, 0.75, 1) were changed. And the experimental results were also compared with those by the theoretical methods. The results by the experimental and theoretical analysis are as follows. The ultimate horizontal pull-out resistance by the model test increased as the loading point (h/L) moved downwards from the pile top, and the maximum value reached at the h/L=0.75. The theoretical ultimate horizontal pull-out resistance by Broms(1964) and Hong(1984) agreed well with that by the model test at h/L=0 and 0.25, but their results overestimated the experimental result at lower part of pile and the differences between the theoretical and experimental results were of great. While the horizontal loading applied at the upper part of pile, the pile moved to the horizontal direction with rotating clockwise. As the loading point moved downwards from the pile top, the rotating angle of pile was smaller.

In this study, the applicability of the lightweight dynamic cone penetrometer in the domestic slope site was investigated using the weathered granite soil sampled form the Namwon slope site. And then, the lightweight dynamic cone penetration tests according to the change in the degree of compaction and water content were performed and it was analyzed with the correlations between the degree of compaction, the void ratio, the degree of saturation and the value of cone resistance. From the laboratory test results, the cone penetration resistance was rapidly increased in the dry side of the optimum moisture content, and it was largely decreased in the wet side of the optimum moisture content. Moreover, when the degree of compaction and the degree of saturation are large, the cone resistance is increased linearly. And a high correlativity was shown between water content, void ratio, the degree of saturation and the cone resistance. From these results, it is judged that the lightweight dynamic cone penetrometer can be applied to the investigation on the site slope.

In this work, a new land-specific resistance measuring device (GM) and a measuring probe (Grounding Rod) are connected to the WENNER quadrant as power-line communication (PLC). In groups of two (P1,P2) probes, five to ten probes are installed in series on the ground at intervals of 1m, 2m, 4m, 8m, and 16m, respectively. If the PLC signal from the GMD is detected by the receiver of the Probe 1 (P1) for measurement, the minute voltage and current for measurement flow from the PSD (power supply) attached to the probe to the ground, and then, through the soil between P1 and P2, enters the Probe 1 (P2). The resistance value is then measured by the principle of voltage drop due to ground resistance. Measure the earth resistance every T seconds up to 1 trillion and store the measured data on the Arduino Server mounted on the main equipment. Stored measurement data can be derived from formulas by Ohm's Law and from inherent resistance (here,). Data obtained in real time will be linked to CDGES programs installed on Main PC, enabling data analysis and real-time monitoring of the ground environment on land. In addition, a three-dimensional display is possible with 3D graph support by identifying seasonal characteristics such as temperature and humidity of land (soils). The limitations of the study will require specific application measures of Test Bed for commercial access to a model that has been developed and operated experimentally.
This research studies the stabilization method for improved soil sloped through the on-site application of Paper Flyash ground stabilizers. The target strength required for improved soil is 500 kPa, and the compressive strength for the slope surface needs to be less than 1,000 kPa after the improvement in order to plant vegetation. To meet this condition, we mixed soil from the site and the ground stabilization material, which is the main material for surface improvement material, performed mixing design and conducted various tests including strength test, permeability test and plantation test. After analyzing the results of the compression test on improved soil slope, we proposed soil constants for the improved soil. In order to evaluate the applicability of the improved soil on the slope, the site construction was carried out on the collapsed slope and the reinforcement evaluation of the surface of the improvement soil was conducted. The stability was not secured before the reinforcement, but the test shows after the reinforcement with improved soil, the safety rate is secured up to 48 hours during the raining period. In addition, the compressive strength of the improved soil at the site was secured at more than 200 kPa adhesion as planned, and the soil hardness test result was also found to be within the specified value of 18-23 mm, which increased the resistance to rainfall and ability to grow plant on the surface for improved soil.
Success or failure of the bi-directional pile load test for drilled shaft depends on point selection for loading cells, that is balanced location both uplift force and downward force. Methods to evaluate the ultimate unit side resistance in rockmass layer in both domestic and foreign are based on the uniaxial compression strength of rock core, which can hardly be obtained in domestic rockmass layers which are weathered rockmass layer and soft rockmass layer with very low RQD. Therefore, this study suggested the relation charts between the revised SPT N values and developed unit side resistance of each different layers, which were obtained from bi-directional pile load tests in various domestic sites. To evaluate the appropriateness of the relation charts, the developed unit side resistances from the relation charts were used to select the loading cell position and compared with the measured unit side resistances from field pile load test. Results showed that the developed side resistance from relation charts and the measured side resistance of weathered soil layer and weathered rock layer were very close. Average developed side resistance($1,325kN/m^2$), which are average of upper soft rock layer of loading device($1,151kN/m^2$) and lower($1,500kN/m^2$), was similar with the estimated value ($1,250kN/m^2$).

In this study, two design examples of drilled shafts on soft ground in Ho-Chi-Minh City, Vietnam are introduced. One is for a 27-story apartment and the other is for a Arch bridge over Saigon river. Unlikely the normal cases in Korea, all of the bored pile foundations are supposed to be placed on soil layers. Therefore, skin friction between pile and ground is the most crucial design parameter. Three methods using SPT N value of sandy soil -Korean Road Bridge Code(1996), Reese and Wright (1977), and O'Neill and Reese (1988)- were adopted to obtain an ultimate axial bearing capacity. In order to verify the calculated bearing capacity, 3 sets of static load test and a Osterberg Cell test were performed at an apartment site and a bridge site respectively. LRFD (Load Resistance Factored Design) method was compared with ASD (Allowable Stress Design) method. On application of ASD method, safety factor for skin friction was adopted as 2 or 3 while safety factor for end bearing was 3. The design bearing capacities from ASD method matched well with those from LRFD method when safety factor for skin friction was adopted as 2.
