Recently, the natural and man-made slope collapses occur frequently because of sudden heavy rains. So, a variety of slope reinforcement methods have been developed and applied to failure slopes. Soil nailing method usage has been increased because of its workability and economic aspects. This method has been applied in combination with other slope stability methods. Soil nailing method is a kind of combinational structure of steel bar and cement grouting. This method uses skin friction between adjacent ground and cement grouting to stabilize the slope. In this study, End-expanded soil nailing method was developed. This method consists of steel bar and anchor body attached at the tip of the nail. During construction, the anchor body at steel bar tip is settled to the ground through the expanding action. In this study, field pull-out tests were performed for un-grouting soil nailing and grouting soil nailing. From the test results, a wedge force of End-expanded soil nailing method was analyzed. And the behavior characteristics of End-expanded soil nailing were studied.
Recent research on the behavior of silty sand tends to advocate the use of equivalent skeleton void ratio to characterize the density state of this type of soil. This paper presents an investigation to explore the physical meaning of the equivalent skeleton void ratio by means of DEM simulations for assemblies of coarse and fine particles under biaxial shear. The simulations reveal that the distribution pattern of fine particles in the soil skeleton plays a crucial role in the overall macroscopic response: The contractive response observed at the macro scale is mainly caused by the movement of fine particles out of the force chains whereas the dilative response is mainly associated with the migration of fine particles into the force chains. In an assembly of coarse and fine particles, neither all of the fine particles nor all of the coarse ones participate in the force chains to carry the external loads, and therefore a more reasonable definition for equivalent skeleton void ratio is put forward in which a new parameter d is introduced to take into account the fraction of coarse particles absent from the force chains.

In this study, the behavior of underground pipeline subjected to pile driving is examined using the verified finite element model based on the field experiment. Young's modules of surface soil is varied and elastic modulus of the other soil layer is fixed. The pile driving force model proposed by Mounir E. Mabsout in 1999 was used and it was functions of time and of force. The forcing function applied on this study considers the kinetic energy of ram located at 1.2m height with 7 tonf. The 3-layered pipeline is composed of steel(inner) pipe, PUR(Polyurethane Resin, filler) and HDPE(outer) pipe, and the length/diameter of main steel pipe is 20m/0.8m(O.D). It is used for district heating pipes in Korea. The results are expressed in terms of Von Mises stress, displacement, and vibration velocity for each soil condition. From the results of the analyses, PUR which is originally intended as a thermal insulation of inner pipe shows performance as a structural member which distributes external pressure.
To evaluate the effects of magnetic force for transporting the dredged soil, magnetic energy inducing device was installed at the dredger. The whole length of transporting pipeline reaches more than 8.5km and the efficiency of the system and the characteristics of the flow are critical factors. The main parameters which govern the flow are flow-rate, velocity, concentration and slip-layer's condition, so in the field test monitoring system was applied to check the real time conditions of the closed circuit flow and the main parameters. From analyzing the relation between the dredged soil amounts and the pump power, it can be concluded that the magnetic forces effect on the transporting system, increase the transporting quantities of dredged soil and decrease power consumption of the pump.

In this study, multi-story structures are actively controlled using metaheuristic algorithms. The soil conditions such as dense, normal and soft soil are considered under near-fault ground motions consisting of two types of impulsive motions called directivity effect (fault normal component) and the flint step (fault parallel component). In the active tendon-controlled structure, Proportional-Integral-Derivative (PID) type controller optimized by the proposed algorithms was used to achieve a control signal and to produce a corresponding control force. As the novelty of the study, the parameters of PID controller were determined by different metaheuristic algorithms to find the best one for seismic structures. These algorithms are flower pollination algorithm (FPA), teaching learning based optimization (TLBO) and Jaya Algorithm (JA). Furthermore, since the influence of time delay on the structural responses is an important issue for active control systems, it should be considered in the optimization process and time domain analyses. The proposed method was applied for a 15-story structural model and the feasible results were found by limiting the maximum control force for the near-fault records defined in FEMA P-695. Finally, it was determined that the active control using metaheuristic algorithms optimally reduced the structural responses and can be applied for the buildings with the soil-structure interaction (SSI).

The limitations of conventional soil and groundwater contamination remediation technologies have motivated a search for innovative technologies; particularly in situ technologies that do not require extraction of contaminants from the subsurface. All engineered in situ remediation systems require that the contaminant be mixed with a remedial compound. Horizontal flow treatment wells (HFTWs), an innovative technology that consists of a pair of dual-screened treatment wells, were used at a trichloroethylene (TCE) contaminated site to efficiently achieve this mixing of contaminant and remedial compound in order to effect in situ bioremediation (McCarty et al., 1998). In this paper, the potential of HFTWs to treat chlorinated aliphatic hydrocarbons (CAHs) as well as other soil and groundwater contaminants of concern, such as nitroaromatic compounds (NACs), perchlorate, and methyl-tert-butyl ether (MTBE), is examined. Through a combination of laboratory studies, model analyses, and field evaluations, the effectiveness of this innovative technology to manage these contaminants is investigated.
Soil nailing is the most general method to reinforce the slope by taking pullout and shear resistance force of the nail for stabilizing the slope. Domestic soil nailing design method considers only pullout resistance and does not consider the shear resistance sufficiently. In case of nail, the effect of tensile stress is dominant, but it is desirable to design by considering shear stress as well as tensile stress in case of slope where circle failures occur. Recently, studies on the shear resistance effect of nails have been carried out in the geotechnical field. However, many researches on the shear reinforcement effect of soil nailing have not been conducted until now. Most of the studies are about increasing pullout resistance by improving material, shape and construction method of nail. Therefore, it is necessary to the study on shear resistance of soil nailing and development of new methods to increase the shear force. In this study, large shear test and limit equilibrium analysis have been performed for a new soil nailing method to increase the shear resistance by forming protrusions through pressurized grouting after installing a packer on the outside of deformed bar. The study results showed that shear resistance of protrusion type soil nailing increased compared to soil nailing and it is more effective when applied to the ground with large strength parameters.

This paper presents a time domain method for soil-structure interaction analysis for seismic loadings. It is based on the finite element formulation incorporating analytical frequency-dependent infinite elements for the far field soil. The dynamic stiffness matrices of the far field region formulated using the present method in frequency domain can be easily transformed into the corresponding matrices in time domain. At first, the equivalent earthquake forces are evaluated along the interface between the near and the far fields from the free-field response analysis carried out in frequency domain, and the results are transformed into the time domain. An efficient procedure is developed for the convolution integrals to evaluate the interaction force along the interface, which depends on the response on the interface at the past time instances as well as the concurrent instance. Then, the dynamic responses are obtained for the equivalent earthquake force and the interaction force using Newmark direct integration technique. Since the response analysis is carried out in time domain, it can be easily extended to the nonlinear analysis. Example analysis has been carried out to verify the present method in a multi-layered half-space.

As the research about increasing the efficiency of dredging soil transport, the technology, which reduce the friction between pipe wall and fluid in the pipe and disturbed generating pipe blockage, has been developed. So for the purpose of applying this technology to real construction site, main test has been tried at the real scale test in field(500m dredging soil transport length). As a test result, this paper will show 30% flow efficiency increasing by permitted electro magnetic force to the pipe. And test result was evaluated as a ultra sonic velocity profiler.
A data acquisition system was designed to measure the forces on a rolling coulter in three coordinated directions, angular velocity of the coulter and travel speed of a soil bin. The data acquisition system consisted of a dynamometer, speed transducers, a signal conditioner, an inter-face board, an Aim-65 microcomputer and a digital data recorder. Strain gages were attached on the surface of the dynamometer and connected to form three Wheatstone bridges, which measure the draft force, the vertical force and the side force on the coulter. An interaction among three dimensional forces was found during the calibration. A matrix procedure was used to correct the forces for this interaction. Rotary shaft encoders were mounted on the coulter and on the soil bin drive to measure the angular velocity of the coulter and the travel speed of the soil bin. The angular velocity and the travel speed were computed by counting the number of pulse signals from the rotary shaft encoders every 0.2 second. The digital signals from the rotary shaft encoders were connected to counters and the analog signals from the dynamometer, after passing through the signal conditioner, were connected to the A/D converter. The microcomputer programs, written in assembly language, were developed to read signals from the transducers, convert them to actual unit, display them upon request and record them on a sigital tape every 0.2 second.
