수질 환경을 고려한 농경지 토양 탄소 관리 방안 (Agricultural Soil Carbon Management Considering Water Environment)

  • Carbon sequestration on soil is one of the counter measurements against climate change in agricultural sector. Increasing incorporation of organic fertilizer would increase soil organic carbon (SOC) but it could bring high potential of nutrient losses which would result in water quality degradation. In this paper, literature review on soil organic carbon behavior according to agricultural management is presented. The results of field experiment to identify the effect of organic and commercial fertilizer applications on SOC and runoff water quality were also presented. Field experiment confirmed increased SOC and nutrient concentrations in runoff water as application rate of organic fertilizer increase. The potential use of simulation model to develop best agricultural management practice considering carbon sequestration and water quality conservation at the same time is discussed and monitoring and modeling strategies are also suggested to achieve the goal.

토양수분 데이터의 거동 및 품질 평가: 용담시험유역 사례연구 (Evaluation of the behavior and quality in soil moisture data: A case study of Yongdam study watershed)

  • 최근 수문 순환 및 자연재해 관련 연구에 기초자료로 활용될 수 있도록 일관성과 정확성이 높은 토양수분 자료 생산의 필요성이 대두되고 있으나, 국내에서는 토양수분 데이터의 품질관리 기법 등 신뢰도를 확보할 수 있는 연구 개발이 부족한 실정이다. 이에 본 연구에서는 국내 UNESCO-IHP 대표 시험유역인 용담댐 유역의 토양수분 관측소 6개 지점을 대상으로 토양수분의 거동을 분석하고 International Soil Moisture Network(ISMN)의 품질관리 기법을 적용하여 토양수분 데이터의 품질을 향상시킬 수 있는 방향을 제시하고자 하였다. 거동 분석 결과 두 관측소의 경우(i.e., 부귀, 안천 관측소)를 제외한 모든 관측소에서 정상적인 토양수분 거동 형태를 보이는 것을 확인할 수 있었다. 품질관리 기법을 적용한 결과, 상 범주에 해당되는 관측 값은 없었고, 토양수분의 동결이 일어나는 경우도 일반적인 범위(~20%) 내에서 나타나는 것을 확인하였다. 선행 강우 없이 토양수분이 증가하는 경우 또한 ~4% 이내로 나타났으며, spike의 경우 0.01%, plateau의 경우 ~5% 수준으로 선별되어 매우 양호한 결과를 확인할 수 있었다. 추후 관측소별 토양 특성이 고려된 Site-specific한 품질관리 기준이 마련된다면, 보다 신뢰도 높은 토양수분 기초자료의 생산을 가능케 할 것으로 기대된다.

액비 시비에 따른 포플러시험포 토양수 및 천층지하수 수질 영향 평가 (Impact Assessment of Liquid Manure Application on Soil and Shallow Groundwater in Poplar Experimental Site)

  • As livestock manure treatment is becoming a problem, manure application in forest plantation is recommended as an alternative. In this study, to investigate the impact due to liquid manure application in forest plantation, soil, soil water and shallow groundwater quality had been monitored in poplar experimental site where the liquid manure (LM) was applied. Water samples were collected weekly during growing season (April to October) from 2008 to 2011. From the monitoring results, phosphorus concentration in the soil and soil water had no significant difference between LM and control plots. $NO_3$-N concentration of soil water in LM, however, showed higher concentration (13.6 mg/l at 40 cm, 35.1 mg/l at 80 cm) than control plot (1.5 mg/l at 40 cm, 0.5 mg/l at 80 cm). In case of shallow groundwater quality, pH, heavy metal, etc. were satisfied to the national agricultural water quality standard of groundwater and there were no significant difference between upstream and downstream. The $NO_3$-N concentration of shallow groundwater was also not exceeded the national drinking water standard. However, $NO_3$-N concentration in soil water and downstream of shallow groundwater had increased in 2011 when non-composted LM was applied mostly in non-growing season of tree (September). From the results, it is important to control nitrogen source, application time and decomposed or not when LM is applied. In addition, to investigate nitrate source, further long-term monitoring and modelling could be necessary.

수질오염총량관리 단위유역내 토양 양분 및 수질오염 부하량 상관관계 비교 (Correlation between Soil Nutrient Contents and Water Pollutant Loads in Hydrologic Unit Watersheds: Implication on the Total Maximum Daily Loads (TMDLs))

  • For this study the 4 sub-watersheds Okdong A, Hankang B, Jecheon A and Hankang C which are the main streams of the Han River within the mid-level region of Chungju Dam are selected and the analysis of soils has been carried out through the soil basic survey. When it comes to the soil erosion amount the soil nutrient load has been calculated by utilizing the RUSLE erosion equation. In case of the data related to the measurement of water flow and quality the information available from the "Water Information System" one of the websites run by the Ministry of Environment has been used to calculate the water pollution load. The correlation between the soil nutrient load and the water pollutant load has been analyzed through making comparison. According to the results related to the soil nutrient load of each sub-watershed the Hankang C shows the highest values TOC 29,986.92 ton/yr, TN 3,860.33 ton/yr and TP 973.97 ton/yr respectively. Even when it comes to the loads related to water quality the Hankang C shows also comparatively high values TOC 6,625.64 ton/yr, TN 7,335.01 ton/yrand TP 145.49 ton/yr respectively. The soil nutrient loads of the sub-watersheds are shown to increase towards the lower stream meaning the load increases in the order of Hankang CHankang B and Okdong A. When it comes to the water pollutant load the value goes up along down the water system meaning the load gets higher in the order of Hankang C, Hankang B and Okdong A while utilizing the mainstream within the mid-level region of Chungju Dam as the basis. The correlation study showed that the nutrient content of soil is proportional to the pollutant load in water with the strongest positive correlation with TOC.

우리나라 저수지에서 지형, 수문, 수질 및 호안 토양 환경요인의 분석 (Analysis of Environmental Factors of Geomorphology, Hydrology, Water Quality and Shoreline Soil in Reservoirs of Korea)

  • 우리나라 저수지에서 호안 환경의 특성을 파악하기 위하여, 수위변동폭과 이용 목적에 따라서 35개 저수지를 선정하여 지형, 수문, 수질 및 토양 환경요인을 조사하여 이들 사이의 관계를 분석하고 환경 특성에 따라 저수지의 유형을 구분하였다. 저수지의 지형적, 수문적 특성은 그 조성된 곳의 환경과 크기에 따라서 다양하였다. 저수지의 연수위변동폭은 1~27 m로서 변이가 컸다. 저수지의 수질은 대부분 중영양 혹은 부영양 상태이었다. 호안의 토양 환경은 모래 함량이 많았다. 저수지의 수위변동폭, 빈도 및 기간은 저수지의 이용 목적에 따라서 독특한 특성을 보였다. 홍수조절용 저수지는 수위변동 폭이 크고 빈도는 낮았으며 수력발전용 저수지는 수위변동 폭이 크고 빈도가 높았다. 회귀분류 나무(CART) 분석 결과에 의하면 저수지의 수질은 수심, 수위변동폭 및 고도에 의하여 구분되었다. 주요인분석(PCA)의 결과에 의하면 환경요인에 의하면 저수지의 유형은 저수지의 크기, 수위변동폭, 수질 및 토양의 토성과 유기물 함량에 의하여 구분되었다. 이상의 결과를 종합하면, 우리나라 저수지의 호안에서 저수지의 크기, 수위변동폭, 수질 및 호안 토양의 특성이 중요한 환경요인인 것으로 판단되었다.

  • Nitrogen is an element required to meet optimal plant growth. However, when it was applied (as chemical fertilizer or animal waste) more than the demand of plant and managed it unreasonably can be accumulated in subsoil and leached from soil system. Nitrogen also can be act as an pollutant to soil and water through water contamination if its concentration exceed the critical level. The concentration and downward movement of nitrate in soil is influenced by cultural practices and soil properties. High level of nitrate nitrogen in drinking water is harzadrous for animal and human health, especially for infants and the restoration of the quality of groundwater is impossible by now. Therefore it is the only way to prevent from leaching of nitrate nitrogen to keep the quality of groundwater as vital water resource. The aims of the presentation of this review paper are to understand the relationship between agricultural practices and the concentration of nitrate nitrogen in groundwater and to suggest further informations for the rational management methods to reduce the leaching of nitrate nitrogen in soil.

  • This study presents the physical and engineering characteristics of soil-bentonite admixed liner in I landfill. Main focus was the hydraulic conductivity of compacted soil-bentonite admixed and mechanisms governing low permeable properties of the admixed liner. Laboratory and field tests such as compaction, hydraulic conductivity, density, water content for the soil-bentonite admixed liner were carried out. Quality control criteria for the best construction of the soil-bentonite admixed liner was suggested through laboratory and field test results.

  • Water conveyance from waste water treatment plant can play a role in securing river water quantitatively in urban watershed, but it can also cause more severe contamination of river water due to lack of water quality management. Soil aquifer treatment(SAT) has been introduced to overcome the worsening water quality in the water conveyance system considering the characteristics of Korean urban watershed. The application of SAT to the water conveyance system not only improve water quality of ordinarily discharged water but also prevent accidential water pollution to the urban watershed. Since most domestic urban watersheds are consist of narrow terrace lands and surrounded by roads, SAT is estimated not to be appropriate to the urban watershed with respect to the quantitative efficiency. However, since the upstream of urban watershed in which discharge ports are located usually consists of agricultural lands, SAT can be applied near discharge ports. Therefore, combination of water conveyance and SAT is expected to supply clean and safe river water in urban watershed.
