The general concept of reinforced roadbed in the high-speed railway is to cope with the soft ground for the bearing capacity and settlement of foundation soil. The cyclic plate load tests were performed to determine the behavior of reinforced ground with multiple layers of geogrid underlying by soft soil. Five series of test were conducted with varying the soil profile conditions including the ground level, type of soil, and the thickness of each soil layer. Based on these plate load tests, laboratory model tests under cyclic loading were conducted to know the effect of geogrid reinforcement in particular for the high-speed rail roadbed. The permanent settlement and the behavior of earth pressure in reinforced roadbed subjected to a combination of static and dynamic loading are presented.

In case that pile cap is in direct contact with underlying soil, the bearing mechanism for pile groups, including direct bearing effect of cap and its induced influence on pile-soil-cap interaction, should be properly considered. In this paper, the effects of pile caps on behaviors of pile groups in sandy soils were investigated by model tests, which consist of tests on 3 by 3 pile groups with/without contact on subsoil, single pile with/without contact and cap as a shallow foundation. Also, the influences of pile spacing in group piles on contact effects were investigated. The test results showed that the load carrying capacity of pile cap was large enough not to be ignored. However, the interaction effects due to contact between cap and subsoils were not revealed obviously in working load range. And in the design of pile groups, the bearing effect of pile cap when contacted with subsoils, can be reflected by simply summing up load settlement behaviors of each cap and group piles without contact.

In this report, numerical investigations have demonstrated, that the displacement underneath a moving loading reach a maximum value, if the speed of the load is equal to propagation velocity of the maximum wave. The load speed for which the maximum displacement occurs is called critical speed. The critical speed divides the velocities in a subcritical and a super-critical region. By means of calculations the dynamic behaviour of the slab track-soil is investigated. For concrete slab track dynamic wheel load are given in dependence of relevant excitation mechanismen and speed of the train. These loads can be used for the dimensioning of the track as well as for prognosis of the vibrations at the track and the surrounding soil.

Design of the reinforced roadbed thickness is concerned with safe operation of trains at specified levels of speed, axle load and tonnage. There are two methods for evaluating it. One is using an experimental equation and the other is using elastic theory with considering axle load, material properties of subsoils and allowable elastic settlement. Multi-layered theory is used to determine reinforced roadbed thickness by RTRI. Although their reinforced roadbed thickness is designed with an objective of achieving a minimum standard 2.5mm of settlement on the subgrade surface, it is hardly applied to real design. Li(1994) has suggested the experimental model which design approach is to limit plastic strain and deformations for the design period. It is worth due to adopting soil equivalent number of repeated load application. Moreover, it has been a more advanced method than existing design methods because including resilient modulus of subsoil beneath track, soil deviator stress caused by train axle loads and MGT. In this paper, it is analyzed under domestic track conditions to estimate the reinforced roadbed thickness with different soil types.

Ground anchor should not be used in soft clay, because anchor resistance can not be guaranteed. However, there is a way to increase the capacity of anchors. The anchor is an underreamed anchor by using high voltage electric discharge energy. In this study, a series of field test were carried out in order to find ultimate load of underreamed anchors in weathered soil at the new apartment construction site located in Inchon, Korea. Data were analyzed in order to define a relation between ultimate load and the number of electric discharge.

A steel high-rise building (HRB) with 15 stories was analyzed under the dynamic load of wind or four different earthquakes taking into consideration the effect of soil-structure interaction (SSI) and using tuned mass damper (TMD) devices to resist these types of dynamic loads. The behavior of the steel HRB as a lightweight structure subjected to dynamic loads is critical especially for wind load with effect maximum at the top of the building and reduced until the base of the building, while on the contrary for seismic load with effect maximum at the base and reduced until the top of the building. The TMDs as a successful passive resistance method against the effect of wind or earthquakes is used to mitigate their effects on the steel high-rise building. Lateral displacements, top accelerations and straining actions were computed to judge the effectiveness of the TMDs on the response of the steel HRB subjected to wind or earthquakes.
The vertical pressure due to soil prism load and surface surcharge load acts on buried pipe, and occasionally uplifting force due to earthquake or differential settlement acts on it. In this paper, study was performed to estimate the pressure acting on the buried pipe due to soil prism load through analyzing Marston-Spangler theory by new method. And loading tests on the buried flexible pipe were performed to study on the response of the pipe due to surface surcharge load. Also, through the estimation of uplifting resistance theory and uplifting test for buried pipe, the method to determine the maximum uplifting resistance of buried pipe was proposed.
The interactions between a granular pile and raft placed on top are investigated using the continuum approach. The compatibility of vertical and radial displacements along the pile - soil interface and of the vertical displacements along the raft - top of ground interfaces are satisfied. Results show that consideration of radial displacement compatibility does not influence the settlement response of or sharing of the applied load between the granular pile and the raft. The percentage load carried by the granular pile (GP) increases with the increase of its stiffness and decreases with the increase of the relative size of raft. The normal stresses at the raft - soil interface decrease with the increase of stiffness of GP and/or relative length of GP. The influences of GP stiffness and relative length of GP are found to be more for relatively large size of raft. The percentage of load transferred to the base of GP increases with the increase of relative size of raft.
In order to evaluate the performance of axially of laterally loaded piles experimentaly, pile load tests can be carried out at the site Otherwise stress analyses or subgrade reaction analyses can solve the problem. In this study, stress analysis using FLAC code and subgrade reaction analyses using load transfer curves recommended by API(1993) were performed consistently on the basis of a result of site investigations, and the result of analyses was compared with the measured. As a result the behavior of pile heads was analyzed accurately for both axially and laterally loaded tests. Furthermore axially transferred loads were calculated appropriately for the measured and axial loads were transferred mainly mainly by the frictional resistance rather than by the tip resistance. Consequently, it can be commented that both analysis methods of soil-pile systems are applicable at teh objective site and that solutions may be more accurate if material properties from the site investigation are more explicit.
