  • Ther are many stages of the development for the embedded systems' hardware and software as well, which results in many test stages of it with respect to corresponding development stages. The software validation of embedded systems is taken into consideration for the testers to make sure that the systems work correctly after the deployment. Among test stages, especially control logic level testing and system validation testing are considered as the most important test, because the robustness of embedded systems' software can be validated by those two level of tests. in this paper, we would like to introduce the idea of how software test system for embedded systems can be established and of what necessary components are needed

  • A software engineering process has been developed for the design of safety critical software for Wolsong 2/3/4 project to satisfy the requirement of the regulatory body. Among the process, this paper described the detail process of validation testing peformed to ensure that the software with its hardware, developed by the design group, satisfies the requirements of the functional specification prepared by the independent functional group. To perform the test, test facility and test software ore developed and actual safety system computer was connected. Three kinds of test cases, i.e., functional test performance test and self-check test were programmed and run to verify each functional specifications. Test failures ore fedback to the design group to revise the software and test result were analyzed and documented in the report to submit to the regulatory body. The test methodology and procedure were very efficient and satisfactory to perform the systematic and automatic test. The test results were also acceptable and successful to verify the software acts as specified in the program functional specification. This methodology can be applied to the validation of other safety-critical software.

  • Machine Learning(ML) splits data into 3 parts, which are usually 60% for training, 20% for validation, and 20% for testing. It just splits quantitatively instead of selecting each set of data by a criterion, which is very important concept for the adequacy of test data. ML measures a model's accuracy by applying a set of validation data, and revises the model until the validation accuracy reaches on a certain level. After the validation process, the complete model is tested with the set of test data, which are not seen by the model yet. If the set of test data covers the model's attributes well, the test accuracy will be close to the validation accuracy of the model. To make sure that ML's set of test data works adequately, we design an experiment and see if the test accuracy of model is always close to its validation adequacy as expected. The experiment builds 100 different SVM models for each of six data sets published in UCI ML repository. From the test accuracy and its validation accuracy of 600 cases, we find some unexpected cases, where the test accuracy is very different from its validation accuracy. Consequently, it is not always true that ML's set of test data is adequate to assure a model's quality.

  • The railway system is being converted to the computer system from the existing mechanical device, and the dependency on software is being increased rapidly. Though the size and degree of complexity of software for railway system are slower than the development speed of hardware, it is expected that the size will be grown bigger gradually and the degree of complexity will be increased also. Accordingly, the validation of reliability and safety of embedded software for railway system was started to become influential as the important issue. Accordingly, various software test and validation activities are highly recommended in the international standards related railway software. In this paper, we presented a software coding analysis tool using symbolic execution for railway system, and presented its result of implementation.

  • This paper presents an efficient software reliability testing method for the model based auto-generated code and reify a dynamic test procedure. The benefits of executing the model-based each static/dynamic reliability test before the code-based static/dynamic reliability test are described. Also, The correlations of code/model based reliability test are demonstrated by using model testing tool, Model Advisor and Verification and Validation, and the code testing tool, PolySpace and LDRA. The result of reliability test is indicated in this paper.

  • Software has become an integral part of almost any system, triggered by the ever-growing demand for automation and artificial intelligent throughout engineering domains. The complexities of software-centric systems are also increasing, which make software test efforts become essential in software development projects. In this study, we applied systems engineering methodology in generating software test cases. We found out the similarities between requirements analysis and traceability concept of systems engineering and test specification contents of software test. In terms of acceptance test, software test cases could be considered as validation requirements. We also suggested a method to determine test order using a SysML modeling tool.

  • In this paper, we present design features, implementation, and validation of a satellite simulator subsystem for the Korea Multi-Purpose Satellite-2 (KOMPSAT-2). The satellite simulator subsystem is implemented on a personal computer to minimize costs and trouble on embedding onboard flight software into the simulator. An object-oriented design methodology is employed to maximize software reusability. Also, instead of a high-cost commercial database, XML is used for the manipulation of spacecraft characteristics data, telecommand, telemetry, and simulation data. The KOMPSAT-2 satellite simulator subsystem is validated by various simulations for autonomous onboard launch and early orbit phase operations, anomaly operation, and science fine mode operation. It is also officially verified by successfully passing various tests such as the satellite simulator subsystem test, mission control element system integration test, interface test, site installation test, and acceptance test.

  • The evaluation of reliability is very important in the development process of software. There may be lack of trustfulness on the results that come from the analysis and evaluation of reliability of softwares which do not divide the test phases. At this point, this article studies how to evaluate the reliability dividing the test phases in order to settle the these problems. In doing so, I apply the fault data to be found in Unit Test, Integration Test, Validation Test and System Test to SRGM(Software Reliability Growth Model), Exponential SRGM, Delayed S-shaped SRGM and Inflection S-shaped SRGM. The result is that Inflection S-shaped is best suitable with Unit Test Delayed S-shaped is best suitable with Integration and Validation Test, and Exponential SRGM is best suitable with System test. In this respect, I can show that the results of this study on parameter estimation, difference square summation, number of fault remained is superior to the established methods.

  • Research issues in software engineering in recent may be object oriented methodology and software quality. Since Halstead has proposed metric-software science in 1977, software quality area has been studied in steady but inactively until 1980s. As international standards such as ISO 9000-3, 9126 were enacted in 1990s early, interest in software quality is increased but many problems such as how to validate metric, measure quality or apply metric are remained. This paper proposes software quality metric methodology which software developer or project manager can use in measuring quality and validating metric during software development. The methodology is classified by several phases: establishment of quality requirement, identification of quality metric, data collection, metric implementation, metric validation. In order to show its applicability, test program, metrics and data are applied to each phase of the methodology. Consideration of this methodology as a methodology for software quality measurement similar to development methodology for software development is needed.
