  • In this paper, the operation principle of a bi-directional switch type resonant AC link snubber circuit was described, together with the practical design procedure, which employs in the proposed power module bridge package type resonant AC link snubber. The novel prototype of power module bridge package type resonant AC link snubber-assisted voltage type sinewave soft switching PWM inverter using IGBT power module was demonstrated herein. It was verified that both the auxiliary power switches in this resonant AC link snubber circuit and the main power switches commutate under the condition of soft switching commutation principle. In addition, the power losses of the new soft switching inverter treated here were analyzed by implementing the experimental data of the IGBT and diode v-i characteristics in addition to switching power loss characteristics into our original computer simulation software developed by the authors. Then, the voltage type sinewave soft switching PWM inverter was high efficiency than that of hard switching PWM inverter, along with performance operation waveforms. In the future, the comparative feasibility study of power module bridge type resonant AC link snubber and its related soft switching inverter in addition to the other types resonant snubber assisted soft switching inverter should be done from a practical point of view.

  • Since an unexpected fault of induction motor drive systems can cause serious troubles in many industrial applications, which the technique is required to diagnose faults of a voltage-fed PWM inverter for induction motor drives. The considered fault types are rectifier diodes, switching devices and input terminals with open-circuit faults, and the signal for diagnosis is derived from motor currents. The magnitude of dq-current trajectory is used for the feature extraction of a fault and PCA LDA are applied to diagnose. Also, we show results with respect to the execution time because of the possibility to use that a diagnosis software is embedded in the controllers of medium and small size induction motors drive for real-time diagnosis. After we performed various simulations for the fault diagnosis of the inverter, the usefulness of proposed algerian was verified.

  • Background: The purpose of the study was to analyse the clinicopathological spectrum of benign and malignant odontogenic tumours (OT) in Pakistan. Materials and Methods: This retrospective study was carried out at the Armed Forces Institute of Pathology (AFIP) Rawalpindi. Seven years archival records of histologically diagnosed odontogenic tumours, both benign and malignant, were collected and the lesions re-diagnosed histologically in accordance with the WHO classification of head and neck tumours (2005). Clinical as well as histological data were analysed and frequency of each type of OT was calculated using computer software programme SPSS (version 17). Mean tumour size was calculated and Chi-square test was applied to find associations of age, gender and site with each histological type of tumour. Results: Only 1.7% of the odontogenic tumours diagnosed in this said period were malignant while the remaining 98.3% were benign. Amongst benign lesions, ameloblastoma was the most common (61.3%) type while primary intraosseous squamous cell carcinoma (1.7%) was the only reported malignant tumour. Mean age of the affected patients was $31.7{\pm}16.7$ years with posterior mandible as the commonest site involved. Conclusions: Our study revealed ameloblastoma and primary intraosseous squamous cell carcinoma as the commonest diagnosed benign and malignant tumours respectively. There was a significant difference in age and site of origin of different types of OT at the time of their presentation. However, all the tumours showed male predominance.

  • Load tests for fourteen small-scale foundation models combined with geotextile, sand mat and rigid mat were conducted to study the effect of geotextile(G/T), sand mat(S/M), and foundation types on deformation of foundation soils. In addition, the experimental results were compared with those obtained from numerical analysis using a software program. The main conclusions were summarized as follows: 1. The restraint effect on G/T is more outstanding on the lateral displacement than on the vertical one. 2. The single use of S/M has better effect on the restraint of vertical displacement than lateral one. 3. The use of both S/M and G/T is required for the restraint of lateral and vertical displacement. 4. Multi-layered foundation with large rigidity shows similar tendency to that of foundation reinforced with S/M and G/T.

  • Three types of glass woven fabrics (plain, balanced twill, and unbalanced twill) having various sample sizes and aspect ratios were tested using the bias-extension tests. Real-time deformation images, force, and displacement data were collected. For the bias-extension test, the shear angle of the fabrics from the equation based on the crosshead displacement and fabric size was compared with direct manual measurements of the warp and weft angles as well as the optical measurement software. To determine the shear force, an analytical equation was introduced considering the kinematics of the bias-extension test. The obtained shear behaviors were further compared with the results by the trellis-frame test. The optical measurement methods showed that the mathematical method was reasonable before the shear angle of the fabrics reaches $30^{\circ}$ in the bias-extension tests. Also, the bias-extension test gave consistent behaviors with the trellis-frame test only for isotropic and homogeneous fabrics such as balanced plain and twill weaves.

  • Buckling Restrained Braced (BRB) frames have been widely used as an efficient seismic load resisting system in recent years mostly due to their symmetric and stable hysteretic behavior and significant energy dissipation capacity. In this study, to provide a better understanding of the behavior of BRB frames with various beam-column connections, a numerical study using non-linear finite element (FE) analysis is conducted. All models are implemented in the Abaqus software package following an explicit formulation. Initially, the results of the FE model are verified with experimental data. Then, diverse beam-column connections are modeled for the sake of comparison from the shear capacity, energy dissipation and frame hysteresis behavior points of view until appropriate performance is assessed. The considered connections are divided into three different categories: (1) simple beam-column connections including connection by web angle and connection by seat angle; (2) semi-rigid connection including connection by web and seat angles; and (3) rigid beam-column connections by upper-lower beam plates and beam connections with web and flange splices. Results of the non-linear FE analyses show that these types of beam-column connections have little effect on the maximum story drift and shear capacity of BRB frames. However, the connection type has a significant effect on the amount of energy dissipation and hysteresis behavior of BRB frames. Also, changes in length and thickness of the angles in simple and semi-rigid connections and changes in length and thickness of plates in rigid connections have slight effects (less than 4%) on the overall frame behavior.

  • Background: Tobacco contains agents which generate various potent DNA adducts that can cause gene mutations. Production of DNA adducts may be neutralized by glutathione S transferase (GST) along with other phase I and phase II enzyme systems. The existence of null type of GST among the population increases the susceptibility to various disorders and diseases. The present study focuses on the impact of high tobacco usage and possible null type mutation in GST loci. Methods: Genotypes of GST were detected by multiplex polymerase chain reaction in unrelated 504 volunteers of high tobacco using natives of Gujarat. Allelic frequencies were calculated using Statistical Package for Social Studies-16 software. Hardy Weinberg Equilibrium (HWE) was calculated using Chi square test. Two sided Fisher's significance test was used to compare allelic frequencies of different populations. Results: The frequency of homozygous null genotype of GSTM1 and GSTT1 were 20% (95% CI 16.7-23.9) and 35.5% (95% CI 31.4-39.9) respectively. The GSTM1 and GSTT1 null allele frequency distribution in the Gujarat population was significantly deviating from HWE. GSTT1 null frequency of Gujaratians was significantly higher and different to all reported low tobacco using Indian ethnics, while GSTM1 was not differing significantly. Conclusion: Tobacco usage significantly influences the rate of mutation and frequency of GSTT1 and M1 null types among the habituates. The rate of mutation in GSTT1 loci was an undeviating response to the dose of tobacco usage among the population. This mutational impact of tobacco on GSTT1 postulates the possible gene - environment interaction and selection of null genotype among the subjects to prone them under susceptible status for various cancers and even worst to cure the population with GSTT1 dependent drugs.

  • Causal relations in ontology should be defined based on the inference types necessary to solve problems specific to application as well as domain. In this paper, we present a model to define and extract causal relations for application ontology for Question-Answering (QA) on fault-diagnosis of electronic devices. Causal categories are defined by analyzing generic patterns of QA application; the relations between concepts in the corpus belonging to the causal categories are defined as causal relations. Instances of casual relations are extracted using lexical patterns in the concept definitions of domain, and extended incrementally with information from thesaurus. On the evaluation by domain specialists, our model shows precision of 92.3% in classification of relations and precision of 80.7% in identifying causal relations at the extraction phase.

  • The potential impact of aircraft emissions on the current and projected climate of our planet is one of the more important environmental issues facing the aviation industry. Increasing concern over the potential negative effects of greenhouse gas emissions has motivated the development of an aircraft emission estimation and prediction system as one of the ways to reduce aircraft emissions and mitigate the impact of aviation on climate. Hence, in this research, using Piano-X software which was developed by Lissys Co., fuel consumption and emissions for 3 types of aircraft were estimated for different design payloads with various flight distances and flight paths. Fuel burns for economy speed, long range cruise speed, maximum range speed were also investigated with various flight distances and altitudes.
