  • It is possible to obtain accurate temperature and salinity profiles of the oceans using a SBE 911plus CTD and accompanying data conversion packages. To obtain highly accurate results, CTD data needs to be carefully processed in addition to proper and regular maintenance of the CTD itself. Since the manufacturer of the CTD provides tools that are necessary for post processing, it is possible to conduct proper processing without too much effort. Some users, however, are not familiar with all of the processes and inadvertently ignore some of these processes at the expense of data quality. To draw attention to these and other similar issues, we show how it is possible to improve data quality by utilizing a few extra processes to the standard or default data process procedures with CTD data obtained from the equatorial Eastern Pacific between 2001 and 2005, and 2007. One easy step that is often ignored in the standard data process procedure is "wild edit", which removes abnormal values from the raw data. If those abnormal values are not removed, the abnormality could spread vertically during subsequent processes and produce abnormal salinity in a range much wider than that of the raw data. To remove spikes in salinity profiles the "align CTD" procedure must be carried out not with the default values included in the data processing software but with a proper time constant. Only when "cell thermal mass" correction is conducted with optimal parameters, we can reduce the difference between upcast and downcast, and obtain results that can satisfy the nominal accuracy of the CTD.

  • Since the performance of mobile devices is recently improved, the requirement of information retrieval is increased in the mobile devices as well as PCs. If a mobile device with small memory uses a tradition language analysis tool to extract nouns from korean texts, it will impose a burden of analysing language. As a result, the need for the language analysis tools adequate to the mobile devices is increasing. Therefore, this paper proposes a new method for noun extraction using post-noun morpheme sequences and noun patterns from a large corpus. The proposed noun extractor has only the dictionary capacity of 146KB and its performance shows 0.86 $F_1$-measure; the capacity of noun dictionary corresponds to only the 4% capacity of the existing noun extractor with a POS tagger. In addition, it easily extract nouns for unknown word because its dependence for noun dictionaries is low.

  • A rotary table is a positioning device used in metalworking for the multiple axes of machine tools, and the utilization trend is increasing with machining efficiency. In the construction of a rotary table, the core technology is a power transfer unit that drives the table, typically a gear type and a roller gear cam type. As the rollers installed on the turret column have rolling movement on the contact surface of the roller gear cam, the roller gear cam type has the advantage of low wear, high load, and fast driving. Therefore, it is currently being replaced by a roller gear cam type. In this study, we researched a 5-axis machining method for the roller gear cam on a rotary table and a new method of applying double roller gear cam curve to reduce the noise and shock between the roller and the cam surface. We implemented the 5-axis machining process in this study using software to generate NC-code and machined the roller gear cams using a Mazak Integrex-200IV. We found that the roller gear cam and turret were able to identify mutual touch status and the noise from the operation of the roller gear cam was substantially reduced.

  • This paper discusses the trajectory tracking system of unmanned ground vehicles based on predictive control. Because the unmanned ground vehicles can not satisfactorily complete the path tracking task, highly efficient and stable trajectory control system is necessary for unmanned ground vehicle to be realized intelligent and practical. According to the characteristics of unmanned vehicle, this paper built the kinematics tracking models firstly. Then studied algorithm solution with the tools of the optimal stability analysis method and proposed a tracking control method based on the model predictive control. The controller used a kinematics-based prediction model to calculate the predictive error. This controller helps the unmanned vehicle drive along the target trajectory quickly and accurately. The designed control strategy has the true robustness, simplicity as well as generality for kinematics model of the unmanned vehicle. Furthermore, the computer Simulink/Carsim results verified the validity of the proposed control method.

  • Schedule control is an exceedingly fundamental and important construction business function. Even though enormous research efforts have been exerted in this area, there has been no comprehensive and quantitative study exploring detailed cost control practice of construction companies in terms of practical patterns and trends. In this context, this paper surveyed the patterns and trends of schedule control practice of Korean general contractors. Schedule control process as compared to schedule reduction is focused in this paper. The variables for practical schedule control process were identified first. A survey questionnaire was then developed and used in order to collect data from Korean general contractors. Survey results analyzing responses from 45 companies show that scheduling processes in practice have been significantly enhanced in terms of software tools, manuals, and capabilities of engineers.

  • Frequent change of mobile applications has become a burden to management of mobile services. Therefore, the development of mobile Web services, which the central management is easy, has increased. Tools which developers, as well as general users can easily develop, have been developed for mobile Web services. However, researches of standardized metamodel for implementing mobile Web service dynamically by general users is the inadequate situation. In this paper, we propose a dynamic metamodel for developing mobile Web services. The dynamic metamodel consists of a mobile Web pages, mobile Web page instance and dynamic connection using XDPL structure. we study a connection metamodel for condition connection, split connection and join connection, and combile entire metamodel, finally. Also, we carry out a case study in order to verify the suitability of metamodel by based on XPDL.

  • In this paper, we propose a novel hardware architecture to facilitate the applicable SoC chip design of H.264/SVC which has a great deal of advancement in the international standardization in recent. Moreover, a new C-model simulator based on the proposed hardware system will be presented to support optimal SoC circuit development. Since the proposed SVC decoder is consist of some hardware engine for processing of major decoding tools and core processor for software processing, the system is simply implemented with the conventional embedded system. To improve the feasibility and applicability, and reduce the decoder complexity, the hardware decoder architecture is constructed with only the consideration of IPPP structure scalability without using the full B-picture. Finally, we present results of decoder hardware implementation and decoded picture to show the effectiveness of the proposed hardware architecture and C-model simulator.

  • The two-dimensional (2D) analysis is widely used in geotechnical engineering for slope stability analysis assuming a plane-strain condition. It is implicitly assumed that the slip surface is infinitely wide, and thus three-dimensional (3D) end effects are negligible because of the infinite width of the slide mass. The majority of work on this subject suggests that the 2D factor of safety is conservative (i.e. lower than the 'true' 3D factor of safety). Recently, the 3D finite element method (FEM) became more attractive due to the progress of computational tools including the computer hardware and software. This paper presents the numerical analyses on rotational mode and translational mode slopes using the 2D and 3D FEM as well as 2D limit equilibrium methods (LEM). The results of the parametric study on the slope stability due to mesh size, dilatency angle, boundary conditions, stress history and model dimensions change are analysed. The analysis showed that the factor of safety in 3D analysis is always higher than that in the 2D analysis and the discrepancy of the slope width in W direction on the factor of safety is ignored if the roller type of W direction conditions is applied.

  • We report on the design of a low-noise 40 channel SQUID system for biomagnetism. We used low-noise SQUID sensor with the pickup coil integrated on the same wafer as the SQUID. The SQUID electronics were simplified by increasing the voltage output of the SQUID. The SQUID insert was designed to have low thermal load, minimizing the liquid helium loss. The digital signal processing provides versatile analysis tools and the software is based on the object-oriented programming. For the effective localization of the source location, solutions of the inverse problems based on the lead-field and the simulated anneal ins were studied.
