Distribute Intelligent Multi-Agent Technology for User Service in Ubiquitous Environment (유비쿼터스 환경의 사용자 서비스를 위한 분산 지능형 에이전트 기술)

  • In the age of ubiquitous environment, huge number of devices and computing services are provided to users. Personalized service, which is modeled according to the character of each and every individual is of particular need. In order to provide various dynamic services according to user's movement, service unit and operating mode should be able to operate automatically with minimum user intervention. In this paper, we discuss the steps of offering approximate service based on user's request in ubiquitous environment. First, we present our simulator designed for modeling the physical resource and computing object in smart space - the infrastructure in ubiquitous. Second, intelligent agents, which we developed based on a FIPA specification compliant multi-agent framework will be discussed. These intelligent agents are developed for achieving the service goal through cooperation between distributed agents. Third, we propose an automated service discovery and composition method in heterogeneous environment using semantic message communication between agents, according to the movement by the user interacting with the service available in the smart space. Fourth, we provide personalized service through agent monitoring anytime, anywhere from user's profile information stored on handhold device. Therefore, our research provides high quality service more than general automated service operation.

English Phoneme Recognition using Segmental-Feature HMM (분절 특징 HMM을 이용한 영어 음소 인식)

  • In this paper, we propose a new acoustic model for characterizing segmental features and an algorithm based upon a general framework of hidden Markov models (HMMs) in order to compensate the weakness of HMM assumptions. The segmental features are represented as a trajectory of observed vector sequences by a polynomial regression function because the single frame feature cannot represent the temporal dynamics of speech signals effectively. To apply the segmental features to pattern classification, we adopted segmental HMM(SHMM) which is known as the effective method to represent the trend of speech signals. SHMM separates observation probability of the given state into extra- and intra-segmental variations that show the long-term and short-term variabilities, respectively. To consider the segmental characteristics in acoustic model, we present segmental-feature HMM(SFHMM) by modifying the SHMM. The SFHMM therefore represents the external- and internal-variation as the observation probability of the trajectory in a given state and trajectory estimation error for the given segment, respectively. We conducted several experiments on the TIMIT database to establish the effectiveness of the proposed method and the characteristics of the segmental features. From the experimental results, we conclude that the proposed method is valuable, if its number of parameters is greater than that of conventional HMM, in the flexible and informative feature representation and the performance improvement.

The Effects of Emotional Intelligence on the Customer Orientation and Customer Relationship Management Performance of Hotel Employees (호텔기업 종업원의 감성지능이 고객지향성과 CRM성과에 미치는 영향)

  • Purpose - This study aimed to (a) investigate the effects of emotional intelligence on customer orientation, (b) examine the impact of customer orientation on customer relationship management (CRM) performance (including CRM-related variables such as 'relationship commitment,' 'image of corporation,' and 'customer loyalty'), and (c) identify the conceptual framework of emotional intelligence. Research design, data, and methodology - The data were collected using a questionnaire given to a sample of employees of luxury hotels in the metropolitan area. To test the hypotheses, AMOS were conducted for the 271 respondents of the sample using the SPSS Win 17.0 software. The concept of emotional intelligence (EI) has been on the radar of many leaders and managers over the past few decades. Emotional intelligence is generally accepted to be a combination of emotional and interpersonal competencies that influence behavior, thoughts, and interactions with others. Emotional intelligence consists of four factors: understanding the self's emotion, understanding other people's emotions, emotion utilization, and emotion control. Understanding the self's emotion means to understand of my own emotions. Understanding other people's emotions is to understand of the emotions of the people around me and to know how my friends feel based on their behavior. The concept of emotion utilization means to set goals for myself and then try to achieve them, encouraging myself to do my best. The concept of emotion control means I can control my temper, handle difficult situations rationally, and calm down quickly when I am very angry. Results - As a result of the analysis, three factors (understanding the self's emotion, understanding of other people's emotions, and emotion utilization) were shown to have a significant effect on customer orientation. Emotion control had an insignificant effect on customer orientation. Only emotion control makes it difficult to solve customers' problems because it is a passive behavior. In order to solve the customers' problems, hotel employees have to show a positive attitude. Second, customer orientation had a significant effect on customer relationship management performance (customer relationship commitment, corporate image, and customer loyalty). In other words, customer orientation increases commitment to customer relationships. For example, employees who have a customer-orientated perspective provide good service to their customers, while employees who don't have a customer-orientated perspective can't satisfy their customers. Customer orientation can also generate a good image among customers, because they evaluate the image of a hotel through the behavior of hotel employees. So it is very important for employees to show excellent customer orientation. Conclusions - It is very important for hotel CEOs to manage their employees' emotional intelligence. In order to increase their employees' emotional intelligence abilities, CEOs have to manage the overall corporate culture and reward programs to achieve what they want. This is because the system can lead to a customer-orientated mind-set and CRM performance among employees. As a result, the hotel CEO has to pay attention to the emotional intelligence of employees to achieve strong CRM performance. The sentence as originally written was a bit unclear.   • This article introduces a recent innovation in Korea's human resources development policy in the SW sector. Facing serious problems in cultivating SW engineers such as a mismatch in supply and demand of SW workers, shortage of globally competitive SW professionals, and insufficient education and training of university graduates, the Korean government has decided to adopt a new paradigm in national SW engineering education, based on supply chain management (SCM) in manufacturing. SCM has been a major component of the corporate competitive strategy, enhancing organizational productiveness and responsiveness in a highly competitive environment. It weighs improving competitiveness of the supply chain as a whole via long-term commitment to supply chain relationships and a cooperative, integrated approach to business processes. These characteristics of SCM are believed to provide insight into a more effective IT education and university-industry collaboration. On the basis of the SCM literature, a framework for industry-oriented SW human resources development is designed, and then applied in the case of nurturing computer-software engineers in Korea. This approach is expected to fumish valuable implications not only to Korean policy makers, but also to other countries making similar efforts to enhance the effectiveness and flexibility in human resources development. The construction of SCM-based SW HRD model is first trial to apply SCM into SW HRD field. The model is divided into three kinds of primary activities and two kinds of supportive activities in the field of value chain such as SW HRD Council, SW demand and supply plan establishment and the integration of SW engineering capabilities that contribute the reduction of the skill and job matching through SW HR demand and supply collaboration.

Real-Time Hand Pose Tracking and Finger Action Recognition Based on 3D Hand Modeling (3차원 손 모델링 기반의 실시간 손 포즈 추적 및 손가락 동작 인식)

  • Modeling hand poses and tracking its movement are one of the challenging problems in computer vision. There are two typical approaches for the reconstruction of hand poses in 3D, depending on the number of cameras from which images are captured. One is to capture images from multiple cameras or a stereo camera. The other is to capture images from a single camera. The former approach is relatively limited, because of the environmental constraints for setting up multiple cameras. In this paper we propose a method of reconstructing 3D hand poses from a 2D input image sequence captured from a single camera by means of Belief Propagation in a graphical model and recognizing a finger clicking motion using a hidden Markov model. We define a graphical model with hidden nodes representing joints of a hand, and observable nodes with the features extracted from a 2D input image sequence. To track hand poses in 3D, we use a Belief Propagation algorithm, which provides a robust and unified framework for inference in a graphical model. From the estimated 3D hand pose we extract the information for each finger's motion, which is then fed into a hidden Markov model. To recognize natural finger actions, we consider the movements of all the fingers to recognize a single finger's action. We applied the proposed method to a virtual keypad system and the result showed a high recognition rate of 94.66% with 300 test data.

A Cost-Efficient Job Scheduling Algorithm in Cloud Resource Broker with Scalable VM Allocation Scheme (클라우드 자원 브로커에서 확장성 있는 가상 머신 할당 기법을 이용한 비용 적응형 작업 스케쥴링 알고리즘)

  • Cloud service users request dedicated virtual computing resource from the cloud service provider to process jobs in independent environment from other users. To optimize this process with automated method, in this paper we proposed a framework for workflow scheduling in the cloud environment, in which the core component is the middleware called broker mediating the interaction between users and cloud service providers. To process jobs in on-demand and virtualized resources from cloud service providers, many papers propose scheduling algorithms that allocate jobs to virtual machines which are dedicated to one machine one job. With this method, the isolation of being processed jobs is guaranteed, but we can't use each resource to its fullest computing capacity with high efficiency in resource utilization. This paper therefore proposed a cost-efficient job scheduling algorithm which maximizes the utilization of managed resources with increasing the degree of multiprogramming to reduce the number of needed virtual machines; consequently we can save the cost for processing requests. We also consider the performance degradation in proposed scheme with thrashing and context switching. By evaluating the experimental results, we have shown that the proposed scheme has better cost-performance feature compared to an existing scheme.

Process Alignment between MND-AF and ADDMe for Products Reusability (산출물 재사용성을 위한 MND-AF와 ADDMe 프로세스 정렬)

  • Nowadays, most enterprises have introduced both EA methodology to optimize an entire enterprise and CBD methodology to improve a software reusability. The Korea Government not only have developed many EA guiding products such as EA framework, Reference Model, Guideline, etc. but also have instituted a law to optimize a government-wide enterprise. The Minister of National Defense(MND) have developed the MND-AF as a standard methodology for EA and the ADDMe as a standard methodology for CBD. But it is possible to develop products of WD-AF and ADDMe redundantly because the process of MND-AF and ADDMe is not quitely aligned. The purpose of this paper is to present a scheme that ADDMe can reuse the artifacts of MND-AF by analyzing the relationships between two processes. In order to identify the relationships between two processes, we first identify the relation of a 'definition' part of two processes and then identify the relation of an 'attribute' part based on the relation of a 'detailed definition' part. As a result we found that 113 attributes of MND-AF are related to 49 attributes of ADDMe. Therefore the proposed study will decrease the development cost and time and will be a good example for aligning the process of EA and CBD methodology.

High Resolution Video Synthesis with a Hybrid Camera (하이브리드 카메라를 이용한 고해상도 비디오 합성)

  • With the advent of digital cinema, more and more movies are digitally produced, distributed via digital medium such as hard drives and network, and finally projected using a digital projector. However, digital cameras capable of shotting at 2K or higher resolution for digital cinema are still very expensive and bulky, which impedes rapid transition to digital production. As a low-cost solution for acquiring high resolution digital videos, we propose a hybrid camera consisting of a low-resolution CCD for capturing videos and a high-resolution CCD for capturing still images at regular intervals. From the output of the hybrid camera, we can synthesize high-resolution videos by software as follows: for each frame, 1. find pixel correspondences from the current frame to the previous and subsequent keyframes associated with high resolution still images, 2. synthesize a high-resolution image for the current frame by copying the image blocks associated with the corresponding pixels from the high-resolution keyframe images, and 3. complete the synthesis by filling holes in the synthesized image. This framework can be extended to making NPR video effects and capturing HDR videos.

  • Services in SOA are typically perceived as black-box to service consumers, and can be dynamically evolved at runtime, and run on a number of unknown and heterogeneous environments. Because of these characteristics of the services, effective and efficient monitoring of various aspects on services is an essential functionality for autonomous management of service. But the problem with or limitation in conventional or existing approaches is, that they focus on services themselves, ignoring the effects by business processes. Consequently, there is a room for service monitoring which provides more useful information of business level by acquisition of only external monitoring data that depend on specific BPEL engine and middleware. Moreover, there is a strong demand to present effective methods to reduce monitoring overhead which can degrade quality of services. EDA can cope with such limitations in SOA by collecting and analyzing events efficiently. In this paper, we first describe EDA benefits in service monitoring, and classify monitorring target, and present an appropriate monitoring method for each monitoring target. Also to provide the applicability of our approach, an event meta-model is defined, and event processing model and architecture based on the meta-model are proposed. And, with the proposed architecture and method, we implement a prototype of an event-driven dynamic monitoring framework which can collect and process internal and external data at runtime. Finally, we present the result of a case study to demonstrate the effectiveness and applicability of the proposed approach.

How to Increase the Supply of Rental Housing through Urban Regeneration Program in Korea

  • The authors derived rental housing policy measures that are appropriate for the current conditions of Korean housing supply and demand based on the confirmation of the issues of Korean rental housing system and reviewing implications from review of cases of foreign countries and these measures can be categorized into linkage with the urban regeneration and multi-functional development, acquisition of financial resources, operational management, policy and institutional aspects. For the expansion of supply of rental housing, it is essential to link the rental housing policy with urban regeneration. To pursue regeneration of underdeveloped areas and expansion of supply of rental housing in line with urban regeneration, more development sites should be added. Further, the rental home policy must be integrated into a new paradigm that includes securing commercial viability and providing various residential conveniences through multi-functional development. In addition, diversification of developers of real estates turning away from the existing framework of policy that has been focused only on the state-led housing supply so that local governments and private sector players can take part in. Next, new options for funding the supply of rental housing must be sought. First, raising financial resources sequentially through cyclical development approach could be considered. Or, various funding schemes including utilizing Tax-increment financing (TIF) based on the local tax revenues that will be accrued after the development projects and supply of rental housing. Or there should be various schemes to raise funds including utilization of TIFs that are based on the revenues that will be realized after the development projects and supply of rental housing, or utilizing REITs where funds can be provided through private sector investments. Also, getting out from the planning practice that focused only on physical expansion of supply of rental housing, continual operational management must be performed even after the development. These activities must be supported through establishment of control tower at the national level and continuous attention must be paid even after the development by developing specialized operational management companies that are led by private sector players. Finally, in addition to the hardware support that is focused on the public rental housing only, software support such as conditional provision of housing voucher or tax exemption for low-income classes should be provided, too. In other words, a shift from policies that are supplier-centric to ones that are customer-centric must take place.
