  • Environments surrounding production sites have changed greatly in recent years. Accommodating environmental changes calls for the design and development of information systems that center on production lines. There is a need for a training program that teaches learners to understand the particulars of an operation and apply that knowledge to an information system. In this research, we used material requirements planning (MRP) as the subject for which basic skills are to be taught and developed an MRP exercise-based training program. The program is designed for 13 lectures of 90 minutes each, and it consists of MRP exercises, modeling methods to represent them, the use of a programming language for system development, and finally, evaluation of the exercises. Lecture materials are described in 505 lecture slides using Microsoft PowerPoint to allow visualization of topics through graphs and models. The developed training program was then delivered to 86 college students, and its results were measured through quizzes to verify educational effectiveness.

  • The electromagnetic wave (EM) absorption properties of various particle size have been investigated in a sheet-type absorber using the $Fe_{73}Si_{16}B_{7}Nb_{3}Cu_{1}$ alloy powder. With decreasing the average particle size, the complex permeability (${\mu}_{r}$) and permittivity (${\varepsilon}_{r}$) increased and the matching frequency is shifted toward lower frequency. The fabricated EM wave absorbers showed permeability $2{\sim}6$, permittivity $17{\sim}23$ for a $-325{\sim}+400$ mesh sample, and the calculated power absorption was as high as 80% in the frequency range over 2 GHz.

  • A key issue toward mobile multimedia communications is to create technologies for broadband signal transmission that can support high quality services. Such a broadband mobile communications system should be able to overcome severe distortion caused by time-varying multi-path fading channel, while providing high spectral efficiency and low power consumption. For these reasons, an adaptive suboptimum decision feedback equalizer (DFE) for the single-carrier short-burst transmissions system is considered as one of the feasible solutions. For the performance improvement of the system with the short-burst format including the short training sequence, in this paper, the multiple-training least mean square (MTLMS) based DFE scheme with soft decision feedback is proposed and its performance is investigated in mobile wireless channels throughout computer simulation.

  • Multiple output converters (MOCs) are widely used for applications which require various levels of the output voltages due to their benefits in cost, volume, and efficiency. However, most of the MOCs developed so far can regulate only one output tightly and require as many secondary windings in the transformer as the number of the outputs. In this paper, a novel Time Division Multiple Control (TDMC) method to regulate all the outputs in high precision is proposed and applied for the multiple output battery charger based on the phase shift full bridge topology to charge a multiple number of batteries at one time. The proposed converter can charge three different kinds of batteries or same kind of batteries in different state of charges (SOCs) by using constant current/constant voltage (CC/CV) charge mode independently. At the same time it can provide an even degree of tight regulation for each output to satisfy the strict ripple requirement of the battery. The validity and feasibility of the proposed method are verified through the experiments.

  • Criticality alarm systems (CASs) are mandatory in nuclear plants for prompt alarm in the event of any criticality incident. False criticality alarms are not desirable as they create a panic environment for radiation workers. The present article describes the design enhancement of the CAS at each stage and provides maximum availability, preventing false criticality alarms. The failure mode and effect analysis are carried out on each element of a CAS. Based on the analysis, additional hardware circuits are developed for early fault detection. Two different methods are developed, one method for channel loop functionality test and another method for dose alarm test using electronic transient pulse. The design enhancement made for the external systems that are integrated with a CAS includes the power supply, criticality evacuation hooter circuit, radiation data acquisition system along with selection of different soft alarm set points, and centralized electronic test facility. The CAS incorporating all improvements are assembled, installed, tested, and validated along with rigorous surveillance procedures in a nuclear plant for a period of 18,000 h.

  • Smart tourism is a social phenomenon arising from the convergence of information technology with the tourism experience. New ways of doing business, new patterns of experience and new problems concerning tourism destination image management and marketing are emerging due to the ubiquitous presence and influence of the internet and mobile devices. New conceptual tools are also available to enable researchers to further understand the social implications as well as the practical implementation of these new virtual and augmented smart tourism ecosystems. To this effect this paper introduces the constructivist paradigm and associated research methodologies as another toolbox for interpreting how smart tourism works as a form of soft power. The implications revealed by constructivism are that through smart tourism ecosystems, destination commodification and commoditization, experience and image formation are increasingly self-perpetuating, autonomous and organic social constructions. Researchers in information technology can use constructivist research to further explore these dynamic developments in smart tourism.

  • A highly sensitive magnetic sensor using the Giant MagnetoImpedance effect has been developed. The sensor performance is studied and estimated. The sensor circuitry consists of a square wave generator (driving source), a sensing element in a form of composite wire of a 25 $\mu$m copper core electrodeposited with a thin layer of soft magnetic material ($Ni_{80}Fe_{20}$), and two amplifier stages for improving the gain, switching mechanism, scaler circuit, an AC power source driving the permeability of the magnetic coating layer of the sensing element into a dynamic state, and a signal pickup LC circuit formed by a pickup coil and an capacitor. Experimental studies on sensor have been carried out to investigate the key parameters in relation to the sensor sensitivity and resolution. The results showed that for high sensitivity and resolution, the frequency and magnitude of the ac driving current through the sensing element each has an optimum value, the resonance frequency of the signal pickup LC circuit should be equal to or twice as the driving frequency on the sensing element, and the anisotropy of the magnetic coating layer of the sensing wire element should be longitudinal.

  • The telemetry standard adopts SOQPSK-TG with excellent power and bandwidth efficiency as a modulation technique, and LDPC code with excellent performance as an error correction code. The SOQPSK-TG transmitter consists of a precoder and a CPM modulator. Rather than implementing each receiver separately, the reception performance is improved by combining the trellis and implementing it as a Viterbi decoder. In this paper, the reception performance of LDPC-encoded SOQPSK-TG was evaluated by replacing the Viterbi decoder with a max-log-map decoder capable of soft metric output. As a result of computer simulation in AWGN channel, there is an Eb/No performance gain of about more than 0.7~0.8dB compared to the conventional method.

  • Support vector regression (SVR) is devised to solve the regression problem by utilizing the excellent predictive power of Support Vector Machine. In particular, the ⲉ-insensitive loss function, which is a loss function often used in SVR, is a function thatdoes not generate penalties if the difference between the actual value and the estimated regression curve is within ⲉ. In most studies, the ⲉ-insensitive loss function is used symmetrically, and it is of interest to determine the value of ⲉ. In SVQR (Support Vector Quantile Regression), the asymmetry of the width of ⲉ and the slope of the penalty was controlled using the parameter p. However, the slope of the penalty is fixed according to the p value that determines the asymmetry of ⲉ. In this study, a new ε-insensitive loss function with p1 and p2 parameters was proposed. A new asymmetric SVR called GSVQR (Generalized Support Vector Quantile Regression) based on the new ε-insensitive loss function can control the asymmetry of the width of ⲉ and the slope of the penalty using the parameters p1 and p2, respectively. Moreover, the figures show that the asymmetry of the width of ⲉ and the slope of the penalty is controlled. Finally, through an experiment on a function, the accuracy of the existing symmetric Soft Margin, asymmetric SVQR, and asymmetric GSVQR was examined, and the characteristics of each were shown through figures.
