Autoclaved lightweight concrete (ALC), also known as autoclaved aerated concrete (AAC), is a lightweight, precast building material that simultaneously provides structure, insulation. ALC is a unique building material. Because of its cellular nature, it is lightweight, self-insulating, as well as sound and fireproof. ALC products include blocks, wall panels, floor and roof panels, and lintels. Recently, the use of ALC has became increasingly popular. However, ALC have high water absorption, low compressive strength and popout the origin of the low surface strength in its properties. Thus, this study is to improve the fundamental strength by controls of increasing of admixtures and chemical reactants. Admixtures make use of meta kaolin and silica fume, chemical reactants make use of sodium silicate and sodium hydroxide. From the test result, the ALC using admixtures and chemical reactants have a good fundamental properties compared with plain ALC. These good fundamental properties is caused by the admixtures and chemical reactants of ALC by the reason of the micro filling effect and chemical binding of C-S-H gel, tobermolite and quartz.
This paper presents a successful demonstration of the on-line coupling of MEKC (micellar electrokinetic chromatography) to ESIMS (electrospray ionization mass spectrometry) for the quantitative analysis of seven s-triazine herbicides. The on-line MEKC-ESIMS was used to determine the structure of CE-separated peaks of seven triazine herbicides. The mixture of triazine herbicides was separated in a 20 mM sodium borate buffer (pH 8.5) containing 15 mM sodium dodecylsulfate (SDS) by using a bare fused-silica capillary. Electrospray ionization mass spectrometer was operated in the positive-ion mode when the mass spectra of seven triazine herbicides were observed from each peak, and the solution of water-methanol-formic acid (50/49/1 v/v/v) was used as a sheath liquid. The effects of SDS concentration, the run buffer pH, and the electric field on the separation of seven s-triazine herbicides were investigated. The MEKC-ESIMS detection showed 5 to 10 times higher sensitivity compared to the MEKC-UV detection. In addition, it did not need any pretreatment step.
$\alpha$-D-Glucosidase inhibitor purified in a pure form was amorphous powder which gave a single spot at Rf value 0.12-0.71 with various developing solvent systems on silica gel thin layer chromatography, and melting point was 154.3-155.3$^{\circ}C$. It was disolved in water, formic acid and ethylene glycol monoethyl ether, and was very high hygroscopic substance. Biochemical reaction of the substance was positive to phenol sulfuric acid, ninhydrin, silver nitrate-sodium hydroxide, but negative to DNS reagent. Acid hydrolysis gave fructose and acid as sole sugar and amino acid constituents respectively. Moelcular weight of the inhibitor was estimated to be 1,050 by Shphadex G-25 column chromatography.
This paper examines the applicability of artificial neural network (ANN) and multivariate adaptive regression splines (MARS) to predict the compressive strength of bacteria incorporated geopolymer concrete (GPC). The mix is composed of new bacterial strain, manufactured sand, ground granulated blast furnace slag, silica fume, metakaolin and fly ash. The concentration of sodium hydroxide (NaOH) is maintained at 8 Molar, sodium silicate ($Na_2SiO_3$) to NaOH weight ratio is 2.33 and the alkaline liquid to binder ratio of 0.35 and ambient curing temperature ($28^{\circ}C$) is maintained for all the mixtures. In ANN, back-propagation training technique was employed for updating the weights of each layer based on the error in the network output. Levenberg-Marquardt algorithm was used for feed-forward back-propagation. MARS model was developed by establishing a relationship between a set of predictors and dependent variables. MARS is based on a divide and conquers strategy partitioning the training data sets into separate regions; each gets its own regression line. Six models based on ANN and MARS were developed to predict the compressive strength of bacteria incorporated GPC for 1, 3, 7, 28, 56 and 90 days. About 70% of the total 84 data sets obtained from experiments were used for development of the models and remaining 30% data was utilized for testing. From the study, it is observed that the predicted values from the models are found to be in good agreement with the corresponding experimental values and the developed models are robust and reliable.
Electron microscope radioautography introduced by Liquier-Milward (1956) is now used routinely in many laboratories. Most of the technical difficulties in specimen preparation have been overcome. This method is modified from loop method for improvement of EM radioautographic techniques. The advantages of this method are: 1. the use of single specimens on small corks and of a large wire loop, allows the experimenter to avoid the blemishes in the membrane; 2. the surfactant dioctyl sodium sulphosuccinate is added to diluted ILford L4, thus greatly prolonging the period of time over which good emulsion layers can be made; 3. corks can be handled in perspex holder which allows about 20 specimens to be developed simultaneously. The steps of the method comprise: 1. Cut ribbons of ultrathin sections of silver interference colour 2. Pick them up on formvar-coated 200 mesh grids 3. Prestaining of tissues 4. Coat the specimens with a thin layer of carbon by evaporation (30-60A) 5. Mount the specimens on corks (about 1cm apical diameter) using double-sided scotch tape 6. Emulsion coating; a. Take a 250m1 beaker, place it on the pan of a sliding weight balance and weigh it. Add 10 grams extra to the beam. Add pieces of ILford L4 emulsion to the beaker until the balance is swinging freely. Add the 20ml of distilled water that was previously measured out. b. Surfactant dioctyl sodium sulphosuccinate is added to diluted ILford L4. 7. Prepare a series of membranes of gelled emulsion with the wire loop and apply one to each cork-borne specimen. 8. Put the specimens away to expose by pushing the corks into short length of PVC tubing, each tube having a small hole in the side 9. Place the tubes in small boxes together with silica gel. 10. Exposure 11. Developer - Kodak Microdol X for 3 minutes 12. Fixer - A perspex holder can be manufactured which allows 20 specimens to be developed simultaneously. 12. Fixer - 30% sodium thiosulfate for 10 minutes 13. Examination with Siemens Elmiskop 1A electron microscope

Instant face lifting cosmetics contain various film forming agents for stretching the wrinkles on the skin surface. But, most of the film-forming polymers have sticky feels. And they are easily scrubbed out when skin is rubbed on. In this study, we focused on the influence of sodium silicate that has rapid film forming effect on skin surface and immediate wrinkle reducing effect. Sodium silicate, also known as water glass or soluble glass, is a compound containing sodium oxide and silica. Sodium silicate is a white powder that is readily soluble in water, producing an alkaline solution. Sodium silicate is stable in neutral and alkaline solutions. The sodium silicate solution hardens by drying in air and rapidly forms a thin film. When the solution is applied to the skin, the fine membrane coating is formed by water evaporation and ionic bond re-formation. It also makes the strong siloxane (Si-O) bonding on the skin surface. When these fixation properties are applied to cosmetics, they can give remarkable skin tightening effect. The sodium silicate solution can provide the lifting effect by forming a film on skin at a proper concentration. But, skin irritation may be caused with too high concentration of sodium silicate. We studied a desirable range of the sodium silicate concentration and combination with other fixatives for skin care formulation that has no sticky feels and no scrubbing out phenomenon. Immediate lifting gel was developed by using sodium silicate and various thickening systems. Among of the various thickeners, aluminum magnesium silicate showed the best compatibility with sodium silicate for rapid lifting effect. This instant physical lifting gel was confirmed as a low stimulating formula by skin clinical test.
In the present paper, the effect of sodium sulfite treatment on tile inhibition of browning reactions occurring in the storage of dried oyster was tested and the supplementary effect of antioxidantsaddedwasalsomentioned. Dried oysters treated with sodium sulfite solutions as described in the previous paper(Lee and Choi, 1977) were stored in the bottles with silica gel bags at room temperature with or without the application of antioxidants. The ethanol solution of an antioxidant mixture(BHA, BHT, plus, synergists) was sprayed on the surface of cooked oyster before drying. The density of brown pigment was determined spectrophotometrically by measuring the absorbance at 420 and 440 nm of both fractions of pigment extract, namely chloroform-methanol and water soluble fractions, which represent the brown color developed by fat oxidation and Maillard reactions respectively. TBA value was also measured for the oxidative rancidity in oysters during the storage. It appeared from the results that the 0.5 M sodium sulfite-60minute treated samples showed better effect after 150 day storage at room temperature. Controlling tile pH of treating solutions, did not reveal so much different in inhibitory effect in the aspect of color but a more reduction of tyrosine and reducing sugar was resulted with acidic solution than with alkaline solution. The development of brown color in dried oyster seemed to be leaded rather by the oxidative rancidity of lipids than sugar-amino reactions particularly in a long-term storage since the browning of chloroform-methanol fraction progressed more rapidly than of water. soluble fraction. The application of antioxidant, therefore, could largely retard the browning of the product as appeared in the results that sodium sulfite treated oyster with addition of antioxidant kept the best color during the storage.
Raw perlite is a volcanic alumino-silicate and is used as aggregate in the construction industry. The high silica and alumina contained in the raw perlite allows the production of geopolymer mortar with the help of alkaline solutions. In this study, different geopolymer mortars are obtained by mixing ground perlite (GP), sodium hydroxide (NaOH), water and CEN standard sand and the strength and microstructure of these mortars are investigated. Mortar specimens are placed in the oven 24 hours after casting and kept at different temperatures and times, then the specimens are cured under laboratory conditions until the day of strength tests. After curing, unit weight, ultrasound pulse velocity, flexural and compressive strengths are determined. Experimental results indicate that the mechanical properties of the mortars enhance with increasing oven-curing period and temperatures as well as increasing NaOH molarity. In addition, SEM/EDS and XRD analyses are performed on the mortar specimens and the results are interpreted.

The consequence of sulfate attack on geopolymer concrete, made from an alkali activated natural pozzolan (AANP) has been studied in this paper. Changes in the compressive strength, expansion and capillary water absorption of specimens have been investigated combined with phases determination by means of X-ray diffraction. At the end of present investigation which was to evaluate the performance of natural alumina silica based geopolymer concrete in sodium and magnesium sulfate solution, the loss of compressive strength and percentage of expansion of AANP concrete was recorded up to 19.4 % and 0.074, respectively.
Rietveld analysis using synchrotron X-ray powder diffraction data collected at 15 K reveals that CFC-13 ($CF_{3}Cl;$ chlorotrifluoromethane) sorbed on Na,K-LSX binds through fluorine to sodium ions around the single 6-ring aperture in the supcrgage.
