How does the Social Connectivity of Social Media Build a Fandom Community? An Exploratory Study on the BTS Fandom (소셜 미디어 사회연결성의 팬덤 공동체 형성에 관한 탐색적 연구 : 방탄소년단 사례를 중심으로)

  • This study explored the mechanism by which stars and fans build a global fandom community based on social connectivity of social media based on BTS' official Twitter and in-depth interviews with Chinese, American, and Korean fans. Stars and fans use the connectivity of social media to build a pseudo-private relationship that crosses public and private affairs. Even though they won the award, BTS "congratulates" the fan club, ARMY, and organizes a dialogue method so that each fan becomes the subject. From a fan's point of view, it comes to be seen as a personal message to them, which is not just applied to the text composition method. On days when there is no public message such as official activities or anniversaries, a device to communicate without missing a day has been prepared by raising private messages or previous memories. It was found that the sense of constant connection strengthens fans' sense of community toward each other.

Television Viewing in the Post-TV Era: An In-depth Interview Study of Young People's Television Experiences (포스트 TV 시대의 텔레비전 시청 경험에 관한 질적 연구: 20대들과의 심층 인터뷰를 중심으로)

  • Over the last ten years, media convergence and multiple platform expansion have affected the ways that people watch conventional television. In the post-TV era, the growing use of the Internet and mobile multi-media devices, such as smart phones, as well as the availability of abundant television content, allows television consumption to be more personalized, diversified, and linked with various media activities, especially social media uses. This study attempts to examine how television viewing experiences have been transformed with the development of the trans-media uses. Based on Walter J. Ong's concept of relation-ism, which posits that new media transform the meanings and relevance of old media rather than making old media obsolete, this study will pay particular attention to how the cultural meanings of television viewing have been redefined in the post-TV era. For the examination, this study has looked at concrete cases of the television viewing experiences of 29 young people in their twenties. Based on in-depth interview data, this study discusses the newly emerging characteristics of television viewing, its temporal and spatial experiences, and the significance of television as a medium and as a social place.

Determinants of Media Repertoires based on New Services and Technologies (신규 미디어 서비스/기기 레퍼토리 구조 결정 요인)

  • This paper was attempting to identify determinants of media repertoires based on new services and technologies. Using the regression and discriminant models, this study examined determinants that included five independent factors such as the degree of innovation, social networks, social influences, demographic variables and media uses. The analyses revealed that all of independent variables except the degree of innovation were significant determinants of media repertoires. Secondly, the results of discriminant analyses showed that terrestrial television use, age, disposable income were significant factors discriminating new media service adopters from the sample. For new media related technologies adopters, family income, and media uses such as newspaper, Internet and radio were significant discriminant variables.

  • The general public's interest level towards safer life is increasing due to not only ever-changing faces of disasters and increased frequency of climate-change related disasters but also enhanced standard of living. Demand for disaster-safety industry is also increasing. Several policies for disaster-safety industry have been introduced. The policies, however, did not fully reflect the level of people's interest. This study is to investigate possible ways to reflect general public's interests towards disaster-safety industry using social media analysis, so that disaster-safety industry can be properly promoted. To examine the level of general public's interest, social media data during the last three years were compiled and analyzed. It was found that the interest level was highest towards, firstly, information on just-happened real disasters, secondly, necessary knowledge in real life which could be applied immediately if disasters strike. It was also confirmed that social media was useful in analyzing people's interest level quickly, because social data have been found to be sharply increased during the 2016 Gyeongju Earthquake in Korea. This study suggests applicable plans for disaster-related industry promotion based on social media data using general public's interest level.

The roles of perception and attitudes toward media reports of suicides in social learning effects (자살보도에 대한 지각과 인식: 사회학습효과의 검증)

  • Media reports of suicides has been found to increase suicide cases that were temporally and spacially proximal to the reports, but the psychological mechanisms, social learning, underlying the negative effects was not directly tested. The present study examined the cognitive processes of social learning that media reports of suicides, especially positive contents toward suicides, might change people's perception, memory, and attitudes toward suicides positively and subsequently increase subsequent suicide intentions and behaviors. Through an internet survey, 300 adults reported their perception, memory, and attitudes toward news reports of suicides, and rated whether the suicides were described positively or negatively in the reports. Finally they reported their suicide intentions and behaviors. The results revealed that people tended to remember more the contents of suicide reports suggested to increase copycat suicides. Also, people were found to have an ironic view to suicide reports of media that they acknowledged the dangers of suicides reports and approached the reports with curiosity. More importantly, the perception of the positive reward that suicides might achieved through suicides was related with positive attitudes toward suicides and behavioral intention to suicides. The present findings was discussed in the social learning understanding of copycat suicides and their implications for suicide-prevention strategies.

  • A lots of social data are distributed, utilized and opened through the social media. They have characterized effectiveness and pleasure of information to the media by social data but it is ignored about excessive exposure of information and damage from collective reply of personal attack type. In this paper, we study about analysis of opinion social data on the SNS (Social Network Service) by analyzing of collective damage reply. It is analysed by diverse measurement method for distribution and disuse of the amount of Buzz data that is analysed data from structured social network.

A Study on the Factors Influencing Repurchase Intention in Social Commerce (공동구매형 소셜 커머스의 재구매의도에 영향을 미치는 요인에 관한 연구)

  • As social media such as facebook and twitter is widespread, social commerce appears as a new way of e-commerce. Social commerce is a subset of electronic commerce that involves using social media that supports social interaction and user contributions. From the understanding of social commerce and literature review, we deduced the research model that relationship, collectivism, convenience, usefulness, low price, reputation, and rapidness have influence on satisfaction and repurchase intention. As a result of data analysis, relationship, convenience, usefulness, low price, and rapidness had influence on satisfaction and repurchase intention. And collectivism had influence on relationship. But reputation did not have influence on satisfaction. The focus of this study is on the effect of relationship and collectivism on satisfaction and repurchase, because relationship and collectivism is the major feature of social commerce. Succinctly speaking, collectivism affects relationship among users, in turn, relationship affects satisfaction and repurchase intention. This study gives a contribution to business. Business related with social commerce has to make a business strategy for managing relationship and consider collectivism tendency for selecting target customer.

Social Search Scheme Considering Recent Preferences of Social Media Users (소셜 미디어 사용자의 최근 관심사를 고려한 소셜 검색 기법)

  • The existing social search has a problem that search results are not suitable for a user since it does not take into account the recency of the user profile and the interests of similar users. Therefore, studies on a social search considering a temporal attribute and the interests of other users are required. In this paper, we propose a social search scheme that takes into account the recent interests of a user by time and the interests of the most similar users. The proposed scheme analyzes the activity information of a social media user in order to take into account the recent interests of the user. And then the proposed scheme improves the satisfaction and accuracy of search results by combining the interests of similar users with the analyzed information and performing ranking, It is shown through performance evaluation that the proposed scheme outperforms the existing scheme.

  • Social media (SM) for expressing thoughts and opinions of people in network communities can support collaboration among stakeholders in business activities. To enhance collaboration for product design, this study integrates SM with a product data management (PDM) system that manages main product development processes and data in manufacturing companies. This study proposes a text messaging SM model that shares core components of PDM systems and uses product structures in PDM systems as networks for SM broadcasting. The SM model is implemented with a research purpose PDM system and applied to product design experiments to show feasibility of the proposed SM model in PDM systems.

Event-Driven Social Media: Crowd Computing System Development for Idioculture Generation (이벤트 주도형 소셜 미디어: 특유문화 생성을 위한 군중 컴퓨팅 시스템 개발)

  • This study focuses on event-driven social media (EDSM), which supports the production of unique cultural items of small groups by satisfying the conflicting desires of distinctiveness and assimilation that small groups possess. EDSM is a system which promotes the production of idioculture through small group interaction by using an actual event in which people participate in small groups. By setting up an EDSM system in a university festival in which 10,000 to 15,000 people gather in small groups, idioculture production was tested for approximately eight hours and a half. Interaction records gathered from the test, as well as focus group interview data garnered soon after were used to analyze usage patterns of EDSM, types of idiocultures produced, and resulting factors of user experience. Through this, considerations upon designing future EDSM were proposed.
