  • With the spread of mobile devices, the users of social network services or e-commerce sites have increased dramatically, and the amount of data produced by the users has increased exponentially. E-commerce companies have faced a task regarding how to extract useful information from a vast amount of data produced by the users. To solve this problem, there are various studies applying big data processing technique. In this paper, we propose a collaborative filtering method that applies the tag weight in the Apache Spark platform. In order to elevate the accuracy of recommendation, the proposed method refines the tag data in the preprocessing process and categorizes the items and then applies the information of periods and tag weight to the estimate rating of the items. After generating RDD, we calculate item similarity and prediction values and recommend items to users. The experiment result indicated that the proposed method process large amounts of data quickly and improve the appropriateness of recommendation better.

  • This study designed a pilot system in which queries can be expanded through a tag ontology where equivalent, synonymous, or related tags are bound together, in order to improve the retrieval effectiveness of videos. We evaluated the proposed pilot system by comparing it to a tag-based system without tag control, in terms of recall and precision rates. Our study results showed that the mean recall rate in the structured folksonomy-based system was statistically higher than that in the tag-based system. On the other hand, the mean precision rate in the structured folksonomy-based system was not statistically higher than that in the tag-based system. The result of this study can be utilized as a guide on how to effectively use tags as social metadata of digital video libraries.

  • This study was conducted for the purpose of improving the usability of the product through the usability evaluation of the voice tag reader to improve the life convenience of the visually impaired. Perceived usability evaluation was conducted for 19 evaluation items based on the evaluation model considering the usability principle and the characteristics of the visually impaired. A total of 50 participants were included for the analysis. As a result of the perceived usability evaluation of the visually impaired, the safety of the voice tag reader, voice and sound quality, and accuracy of voice information were relatively satisfactory. It was found that the reader received a low evaluation in terms of efficiency in use, including the size and weight of the reader, and the convenience of carrying and storing. For the usability improvement, the procedure for using a product needs to be more simplified, and it would be helpful to input and supply tags for commonly used objects in advance.

  • This study aims to explore how users are tagging in order to utilize a folksonomy and whether they understand the social and interactive aspects of tagging in three different folksonomic systems, Connotea (www.connotea.org), Delicious(http://delicious.com), and CiteULike(www.citeulike.org). The study uses internet questionnaires, qualitative diary studies, and follow-up interviews to understand twelve participants' tagging activities associated with folksonomic interactions. The flow charts developed from the twelve participants showed that tagging was a quite complex process, in which each tagging activity was interconnected, and a variety of folksonomic system features were employed. Three main tagging activities involved in the tagging processes have been identified: item selection, tag assignment, and tag searching and discovery. During the tag assignment, participants would describe their tagging motivations related to various types of tags. Their perception of the usefulness of types of tags was different when their purpose was for social sharing rather than personal information management. While tagging, participants recognized the social potential of a folksonomic system and used interactive aspects of tagging via various features of the folksonomic system. It is hoped that this empirical study will provide insight into theoretical and practical issues regarding users' perceptions and use of folksonomy in accessing, sharing, and navigating internet resources.

  • This study examines the relationship between social media advertisement and customer interest in the context of luxury brands. Further, this study investigates the effective ways to utilize visual types (pictorial advertisement and video advertisement) and contents types (website link and hash-tag) in social media advertising by proposing a time-series model to estimate the long-term effect of social media advertising on social search. We find that the pictorial advertisements are more effective than video advertisements, which provides a different result from previous existing research. In addition, advertisements using hashtags are more effective than web links due to efficiency of the search feature. Finally, since the number of brand fans also have a positive effect on advertising interest, it is essential to utilize social media advertising for the enhancement of customers' interests. Confirming that the effectiveness of social media advertising varies depending on how the visual contents and text are presented, this research can help marketing managers to assess predicted outcomes of using various methods of social media advertising.

  • In contrast to traditional taxonomy, folksonomy is generated not only by experts but also by creators and consumers of the content. Folksonomy is the practice and method of collaboratively creating and managing tags to annotate and categorize content. It is also known as collaborative tagging or social indexing. Folksonomy is also used to link to create social network that connect people to people who share same interest. Folksonomy users can generally discover the contents by which the tag sets of another user who tends to interpret contents in a way that makes sense to them. Firstly, this study consider the significance and some critical issues about folksonomy. Secondly, analyze special features of Korean academic site's folksonomy, which is managed by academic information site. Accordingly consider the directions of development about folksonomy system.

  • In this paper, we propose a hybrid music recommendation system combining users' listening habits and tag information in a social music site. Most of commercial music recommendation systems recommend music items based on the number of plays and explicit ratings of a song. However, the approach has some difficulties in recommending new items with only a few ratings or recommending items to new users with little information. To resolve the problem, we use tag information which is generated by collaborative tagging. According to the meaning of tags, a weighted value is assigned as the score of a tag of an music item. By combining the score of tags and the number of plays, user profiles are created and collaborative filtering algorithm is executed. For performance evaluation, precision, recall, and F-measure are calculated using the listening habit-based recommendation, the tag score-based recommendation, and the hybrid recommendation, respectively. Our experiments show that the hybrid recommendation system outperforms the other two approaches.

  • Social bookmarking is one of the most interesting trends in the current web environment. In a social bookmarking system, users annotate a web page with tags, which describe the contents of the page. Numerous studies have been done using this information, mostly on enhancing the quality of web search. In this paper, we use this information to measure the semantic similarity between two web pages. Since web pages consist of various types of multimedia data, it is quite difficult to compare the semantics of two web pages by comparing the actual data contained in the pages. With the help of social bookmarks, this comparison can be performed very effectively. In this paper, we propose a new similarity measure between web pages, called Web Page Similarity Based on Entire Tags (WSET), based on social bookmarks. The experimental results show that the proposed measure yields more satisfactory results than the previous ones.

  • We designed a structured folksonomy system in which queries can be expanded through tag control; equivalent, synonym or related tags are bound together, in order to improve the retrieval efficiency (recall and precision) of image data. Then, we evaluated the proposed system by comparing it to a tag-based system without tag control in terms of recall, precision, and user satisfaction. Furthermore, we also investigated which query expansion method is the most efficient in terms of retrieval performance. The experimental results showed that the recall, precision, and user satisfaction rates of the proposed system are statistically higher than the rates of the tag-based system, respectively. On the other hand, there are significant differences among the precision rates of query expansion methods but there are no significant differences among their recall rates. The proposed system can be utilized as a guide on how to effectively index and retrieve the digital content of digital library systems in the Library 2.0 era.
