  • The current research was to investigate the effects of discussion activities based on Havruta style on elementary school students' social studies communication skills. For this purpose, we examined a comparative study between 5th grade students and other students of partner schools. As research results, first, online classes using video conference equipment and smart devices will enhance the students' interest and participation in class. Second, the Havruta style helps students not only acquire and internalize knowledge by themselves through the course of reciprocal questions and discussions but also improve presentations and participations. Third, it is necessary not only to draft a new lesson plan and to reconstruct the education process for video and online classes but also to develop the classes with a lesson plan after preparations and discussions with colleague teachers; the process of reflection, such as writing a lesson research journal, has a positive effect to improve the quality of cooperative classes. Fourth, using SNS discussion activities to serve as a complementary activity is good, and two teachers can evaluate each of the students' achievement. It is necessary to have a sufficient number of schools where video and online cooperative learning is possible with video equipment provided. To maximize the effect of video and online classes, various studies and teacher trainings are needed. Education office needs to provide a server that enables students in small and large classes to freely engage in cooperative learning.

  • After social service voucher schemes were introduced in Korea, many controversies have been concentrated on market-based approach, which encourage competition and choice while amount of funding, number of providers, and types of services have been rapidly expanded. This also could mean that transform of social service paradigm from provider-centered approach to user-cantered approach, one of the trends found internationally. Therefore, this is the study to reveal development of social service discourses in Britain where various models of social services have been attempted in their modern history. Then, through the historical analysis, the trends toward more user-cantered approach were found to be distinguished based on the division of individualism and collectivism. • This study examined the revictimization of wives from repeated husband violence and how that affected their depression. It also explored whether social support networks can have moderating effects. Sixty-four wives participated in the research group, 72.3% of whom had experienced repeated verbal violence, and 29.2% experienced repeated physical violence since their husbands participated in the correction and rehabilitation program for family violence perpetrators. Revictimization from repeated husband-to-wife violence was proven to significantly influence wife depression. To moderate the harmful effects of repeated domestic violence on depression, social support networks were observed to provide protective reinforcements. However, the findings of this study did not support the notion that social support networks have moderating effects on wife depression, while a strong negative relationship was established between professional networks of social support networks. Based on these results, the research discussion here advocates for an intervention that promotes psychological health to wives who are exposed to repeated domestic violence.

  • Research addressing international new ventures' social responsibility activities is scarce. Specifically, researchers have little account for the effects of an international new venture's social responsibility efforts on the outcomes of relationships with local customers in emerging economies. Against this background, we attempt to extend the boundaries of an understanding of the effects of international new ventures' social responsibility engagement on local customers' loyalty through customer trust and customer identification in emerging economies. Based mainly on the stakeholder theory and the relationship marketing theory, our study conceptualize two facets of international new ventures' social responsibility efforts: ethical and philanthropic corporate social responsibility engagement. In addition, we identify positive customer relationship-building mechanisms for each facet. Furthermore, our study presents an empirically testable propositions that would explain how international new ventures' social responsibility efforts influence the outcomes of relationships with local customers in emerging economies. Finally, this manuscript provides a discussion of the present study' implications for theory and practice and limitations that naturally lead to future research on international new ventures' social responsibility activities in developing economies.

  • Treatment of schizophrenia is one of the most challenging areas in the field of psychiatry. There has been much improvement in psycho-pharmacotherapy, and at present, psycho-pharmacotherapy along with milieu therapy and social rehabilitation is the standard first-line treatment for schizophrenia. Healing environment, a concept which has arisen from the architectural field, has similarities in meaning to milieu therapy in psychiatry. In other words, healing environment may be an encountering point between psychiatry and architecture. In this encountering, each field can understand each other and expand its concept to aid the treatment of schizophrenia and to plan the build-up of the entire environment considering its social and psychological effects. In this paper, we aim to establish the basic concept of healing environment to alleviate the psychopathologies in schizophrenic patients. We worked under the premise that physical setting affects human behavior and mind, and that physical setting should play a role as a medium with therapeutic potential for patients with medical problems. The aims of this paper are as follows. First, theoretical discussion of the concept and the constructs of healing environment : second, understanding of the schizophrenic symptoms that may be affected by supporting environment : and third, discussion of supporting environment that may alleviate the symptoms of schizophrenia.

  • Policymakers' active support as well as broadcasting and telecom industries' endeavors seeking new business opportunities speed up the introduction of a new medium called DMB in Korea. Meanwhile, discussions from a critical perspective concerning the policy rationale, cultural and social implications of DMB and policy processes are rather scanty. The discussion of policy rationale focuses upon whether the rationale to introduce DMB is sufficiently valid. The discussion of DMB's cultural and social bearings is concerned with whether the implications of new media and technology are properly considered in policymaking and that of policy processes questions whether the initial conditions of DMB are appropriately structured. This study explores such issues associated with the introduction of DMB in Korea.

  • Recently, the interdisciplinary linkage between engineering and social science has received an increasing attention as an emerging education discipline. Due to intrinsic complexity of innovation process and heterogeneity of disciplinary nature, however there exists little, if not no, effort to draw a common framework in terms of educational scope and contents of the new subject. This paper presents a number of criteria and guidelines for building up new educational framework by integrating engineering subject and social science subject. Specifically, three neo-disciplines, technology policy, technology management, and economics of technology are considered since it is postulated that the forementioned disciplines have established academic identity and fundamental structure By nature, this paper is an exploratory and seminal one. It is not the purpose of this paper to provide a concrete table of contents of educational material. Instead, it merely brings up a discussion topic for the wide audience of academic arena, leaving the gradual consensus and convergence as future task.

  • The purposes of this study are to define 'housing welfare' which constitutes an important theme of discussion today and to present some future policy issues. Recently, the expression 'housing welfare' is widely used in our daily life and written in some laws, but its concept is still ambiguous. Housing welfare can be defined as 'the situation in which citizens gain access to a decent housing and adapt themselves well to the community life. In this context, the goals of housing welfare policy should be as follows: reduction of the number of households living below the minimum standard in housing, promotion of the right to housing, housing provision and management based on housing needs, linkage of housing and other welfare measures, realization of social integration and social justice. But, there are still some controversies on such questions as target group, moral hazard of beneficiaries, social equity, etc. To get all the policy alternatives more effective, efforts should be made to improve the general infrastructure of welfare policies, to prevent NIMBY phenomenon of local actors, and so on.
