  • This plan is for a different type of welfare facilities devised by analyzing problems with existing welfare centers and focusing on connection with residents and link between culture and welfare and among generations. In terms of re-development plan of Youngsun-2-dong, Youngdo-gu, Busan and the neighborhood under this plan, Youngsun-dong, Youngdo-gu is one of the densely populated districts of the aged, with lower growth rate and poor housing and welfare facilities. However, the district has a blessed natural environment and historical site of cultural relics of the Neolithic Age as well as growth potential as a logistics center with broader network of roads linking with Bukhang Bridge when Namhang Bridge construction is complete, showing the aspiration for change toward hi-tech maritime city in the 21st century of Youngdo-gu. This plan is expected to promote unity between the old and children, protection from social marginalization, and re-socialization education and set the stage for participation and solidarity of residents in the community.

  • Nowadays, countries all over the world are deeply concerned about pollution in the global environment, so they are seeking various ways to adequately disposal of waste. Still, the environmental situation seems to be getting worse and worse. It is evident that such wastes and pollution have been endangering human life nestled in this globe up to the end of the 20th century. We should not, however, tolerate such human misconduct and mal-management of resources any more in the new millenium. For realizing a society that is sustainable for generations to come, it is important to establish a social system for minimizing wastes, promote re-use and recycling, and develop technology for improving recycling efficiencies, including product designs that facil-itate re-use and recycling and innovative technologies for processing wastes. In this paper, reviewing the current status of Korean waste problems, the governmental policy and specific approach for the establishment for recycling society is considered.

  • This study has been performed to analyze impacts of urban vs rural residence on later life. In this study, 329 Koreans aged 60 or more were interviewed for their current sociodemographic status and daily life styles. The results are drawn as follows: 1. There is no regional impact on birth order; rate of those born as the first child was not significantly different over regions. 2. For the household composition, the rate of three generations was significantly higher in rural areas than in urban areas. 3. More than 85% of the subjects lived in owned homes in rural areas, while 77% did in urban areas. 4. More than 89% of the subjects lived in single-structured homes in rural areas, while only 45% did in urban areas. The results indicate that in planning public housing for the aged, more social spaces accommodating grandchildren and ownership units need to be allocated for rural facilities. In addition, it is recommended that daily activity schedules need to be differentiated so that rural residents have meals and houseworks earlier than urban residents.

  • In a deregulated power market, a load model considered the characteristics of electric consumers is required and the congestion management of transmission lines should be resolved in a point of economic benefits. It is essential that the optimal power flow algorithm is applied to manage transmission line congestion. Therefore, in this paper, we implement the optimal power flow with object function of social welfare maximization based linear programming and analysis the nodal prices for generations and loads through a numerical study.

  • Using a life course framework, we compare and contrast the processes of acculturation for first- and second-generation Korean immigrant fathers in the United States. In-depth life history interviews were conducted with 20 first-generation and 15 second-generation fathers in the Midwest. With a modified grounded theory approach of constant comparison, we first explored how these fathers developed their identities in the midst of cultural and social transitions. These men's identity construction was shaped by socio-economic statuses and accessibility to cultural resources, with a marked shift over time toward integration of Korean and American identities. We then examined how these identities informed the men's socialization of their children, and the children's socialization of their parents.

  • The purpose of this study was to observe cospla subculture in 1990s new generation of Korean youth, focused on activity that was reproducing the appearance of individual characters in animation, comic books and computer games, and to understand the representing process and meaning of appearance. The ethnographic methods including in-depth interviews and observation were used to approach such cultural form more closely from the youth generations perspective and their language. The results were as follows: 1. Although the cospla is originated from Japan, the local experience of Koreans make it the special youth subculture of Korea. 2. There are homological features and hierachical structure among group members of cospla subculture. The core values of Korean cospla are that they are realizing their ideal and elevating their own self-esteem. 3. Their appearance has connotation as symbolic resistance. The cultural activity of cospla is non-realistic, non-productive, but cosplayers conform to the social norm, too.

  • Narratives are the old stories handed down for a long time, which are not personal creations but common ones for ages. They were formed from the public consciousness, passed orally and recorded in letters. There have been lots of studies on narratives about characters, whereas there have been poor in the studies on the great doctors. The author examined the narratives about great doctors in literature for successive generations, and made researches on world view and consciousness of reality reflected on the age directly or indirectly. The author inquired into the descriptions and constructions of the narratives separately, and classified the great doctors in literature into the miraculous doctors, eccentric doctors and righteous doctors. Therefore truly great doctor is the one who treats not only personal diseases but also social problems, and who tries to harmonize with human beings and nature.

  • On the basis of sustainable long-term water resources planning, the development of ground water resources should be interlocked with the surface water development In considering the intertemporal equity, overpumping of groundwater may diminish or eliminate the groundwater resources stock of post-generations. Regulatory landuse zoning for groundwater resources recharge area is indispensable measures to prevent groundwater pollution. Adequate treatment of polluted water from various sources such as municipal sewage, industrial wastewater, landfill site leachate, and abandoned boring wells, is also necessary for groundwater protection. To preserve groundwater resources as common property goods, groundwater use tax should be imposed upon the large scale groundwater use. Finally, the establishment of groundwater development license system is recommended to achieve the social optimal production and to avoid external diseconomy.

  • When the energy resource available to a particular plant (be it coal, oil, gas, water, or nuclear fuel) is a limiting factor in the operation of the plant, the entire economic dispatch calculation must be done differently. Each economic dispatch calculation must account for what happened before and what will happen in the future. This paper presents a formulation and a solution method for the optimization problem with a fuel constraint in a competitive electricity market. Take-or- Pay (TOP) contract for an energy resource is the typical constraint as a limiting factor. Two approaches are proposed in this paper for modeling the dispatch calculation in a market mechanism. The approaches differ in the subject who considers and inserts the fuel-constraint into its optimization problem. Market operator and each power producer having a TOP contract are assumed as such subjects. The two approaches are compared from the viewpoint of profits. surplus. and social welfare on the basis of Nash Equilibrium.

  • The main purpose of the study is to analyze the main features of the pedagogical culture management system in the context of a post-pandemic. Education is the main social institution in which they are professionally engaged in the transfer of the cultural experience of mankind to the next generations. The cultural foundations of management in this area are extremely important. Therefore, the management of pedagogical culture is relevant. Methodology implies the use of modern research methods. Based on the results of the study, key aspects of the pedagogical culture management system in the post-pandemic conditions were identified.
