  • This paper examines the gender pay gap among doctorate holders in Korea to understand the determinants of this gap and control of its variation. A particular focus of this study is to seek to infer the extent to which this pay gap is the consequence of gender-based disparate treatment. The main results indicate that there is a sizeable gender pay gap even among workers with doctorate degrees, that is, very highly educated workers. Moreover, this gender pay gap cannot be largely explained by gender differences in characteristics, indicating the existence of discrimination against female doctorate holders in the Korean labor market.

  • Purpose: Nurses have been reported to be at an increased risk for miscarriage and preterm labor. However, there is limited knowledge regarding nurses' preconception health behaviors. Therefore, this study aimed to identify factors influencing these behaviors. Methods: One hundred sixty nurses, who were planning their first pregnancy within the upcoming year, participated in an online survey from August 11 to October 31, 2021. Data on preconception health behavior, perceived health status, pregnancy anxiety, nursing practice environment, and social support were analyzed using the t-test, Pearson correlation coefficients, and multiple regression analysis. Results: Age (p=.024), educational level (p=.010), marital status (p=.003), work experience (p=.003), satisfaction with the work department (p<.001), smoking status (p=. 039), and previous health problems related to pregnancy outcomes (p=.004) were significantly associated with nurses' preconception health behaviors. Furthermore, perceived health status (p<.001), pregnancy anxiety (p=.011), nursing practice environment (p=.003), and social support (p<.001) showed significant correlations with preconception health behaviors. Social support (β=. 28, p=.001), satisfaction with the work department (β=.23, p=.032), marital status (β=.22, p=.002), and perceived health status (β=.23, p=.002) were confirmed as factors associated with preconception health behaviors. These factors explained 40.9% of the variance in preconception health behaviors (F=6.64, p<.001). Conclusion: Clinical nurses' preconception health behaviors were influenced by social support, perceived health status, satisfaction with the work department, and marital status. Interventions to improve clinical nurses' preconception health behaviors should target social support and perceived health status. • To stem the ever-prevalent occurrence of industrial accidents in the construction industry, which is emerging as a social problem, efforts must be invested by various stakeholders. Specifically, among stakeholders, the orderer is at the top of a project's decision-making structure. Therefore, the orderer's awareness of safety and health directly affects the process of securing the safety of the overall construction site. In this light, the present study aims to identify differences in the perceptions of each stakeholder regarding the obligatory safety and health measures for clients that have recently been introduced. In addition, it suggests specific implementation plans in the Korean context. The data used for analysis were collected through a survey targeting stakeholders such as orderers, safety managers, and site managers, and the collected data were quantitatively reviewed by using multivariate analysis methods such as analysis of variance. As a result of the analysis, the introduction of safety and health obligations for the owner was found to be necessary, and the designation and operation of safety and health experts as an action plan was deemed reasonable. The authors expect that the results of this study can be used as basic data for revising the related regulations in Korea. Moreover, as a further study, a review of the effectiveness after improving regulations would contribute strongly to the domain.

  • BACKGROUND: It is essential to prioritize the exact and clear understanding of agricultural nonpoint source pollution (NPS) controls. The realistic policies and systems should also be developed based on this understanding. Therefore, this study aimed to present agricultural Best Management Practices (BMPs) applicable for the fields based on the Delphi survey result. METHODS AND RESULTS: This study deduced the evaluation items to assess each BMP for agricultural NPS control and conducted the surveying using the Delphi method based on agricultural BMP experts. In addition, its on-the-spot application were evaluated. Considering its importance, technical, social and economic proprieties showed that political support was ranked first and followed by cost investment, labor investment, reduction effect and resident participation. The survey findings by agricultural BMP experts showed the good performance of on-the-spot application can be achieved from fertilization by soil testing, residue and green manure application and contour plowing which are applicable within a field. Agricultural BMPs, highly applicable for the fields, were the countermeasures that farmers who are the principal bodies of agricultural NPS control could be participated directly. CONCLUSION: The active participation of farmers is essential for effective control of agricultural NPS. It is necessary to establish various incentive systems.
