  • The edge in the image is a part which the brightness changes rapidly between the object and the object or objects and background, and includes information of the features such as size, position, orientation, and texture of the object. The edge detection is the technique that acquires these information of the images, and now the researches to detect edges are making steady progress. Typical conventional edge detection methods are Sobel, Prewitt, Roberts using the first derivative operator and Laplacian method using the second derivative operator and so on. These methods is more or less insufficient that the characteristics of the edge detection in the image added salt and pepper noise. therefore, in this paper, an edge detection algorithm using modified mask that applies different size mask according to noise density of local mask is proposed.

  • The edge detection is a pre-processing of such as image segmentation, image recognition, etc, and many related studies are being conducted both in domestic and abroad. Representative edge detection methods are Sobel, Prewitt, Laplacian, Roberts and Canny edge detectors. Such existing methods are possible for superb detections of edges if edges are detected from videos without noises. However, for video degraded by the salt-and-pepper noise, the edge detection characteristic is shown to be insufficient due to the noise influence. Therefore, in this study, the area is separated as the top, down, left and right from the mask's center pixel first to acquire a superb edge detection characteristic from the video damaged by the salt-and-pepper noise. And the algorithm that detects the final edge by applying the directional mask on the assumed factor of mask that is obtained according to the result of determination for the noise status of representative pixel value of each area.

  • 영상 인식을 위한 학습 데이터 구성 단계에서 에지는 물체의 크기, 방향 등의 정보를 포함하고 있어 영상의 특징으로 사용한다. 본 논문에서는 얼굴 인식을 위하여 소벨 마스크를 사용하여 원영상과 압축영상 그리고 에지영상간의 학습에 따른 인식 정도를 파악하고자 한다. 실험결과, 원영상 그대로 인식하는 것보다 에지 영상에 의한 학습 속도에 차이가 있음을 알 수 있었다.

  • 본 논문에서는 컬러 영상에서 피부색 분할과 소벨 마스크를 이용한 얼굴 영역 검출 알고리즘을 제안한다. 제안된 알고리즘은 YCbCr색공간에서 Cb와 Cr성분을 이용하여 피부색 분할을 한 후에 형태학적 필터링과 레이블링을 통해 얼굴 후보 영역을 분리한다. 분리된 각 후보 영역에 대해 휘도 성분 Y에서 소벨 마스크의 수직 연산자를 적용한 후에 수평 투영을 통해 나타난 최대값을 눈의 위치로 검출해낸다. 비슷하게 얼굴의 지형적인 특징과 소벨 마스크의 수평 연산자를 적용하여 계산된 수평 투영의 최대값에 따라 턱 부분을 검출한다. 컴퓨터 시뮬레이션 결과는 제안된 방법이 기존의 방법보다 얼굴 영역을 정확하게 분리할 수 있음을 보인다.

  • As the digital image devices are widely used, interests in the software- and the hardware-related image processing become higher and the image processing techniques are applied in various fields such as object recognition, object detection, fingerprint recognition, and etc. For the edge detections Sobel, Prewitt, Laplacian, Roberts and Canny detectors are used and these existing methods can excellently detect the edges of the images without noise. However, in the images corrupted by the impulse noise, these methods are insufficent in noise elimination characteristics, showing unsatisfactory edge detection. Therefore in this paper, in order to obtain excellent edge detection characteristics in the corrupted image by the impulse noise, an detection algorithm is porposed, which uses the central pixel of mask divided by four regions along the axis, calculates the estimated mask according to the representing pixel values in each regions, and detects the final edges by applying the estimates mask and the new directional one.

  • Contemporary society has evolved in the digital information age. Because of this, use of various digital images has been increased. To process these images, various digital image processing methods are used. Edge detection methods, one of those, are utilized to various areas of application such as object recognition, line detection. To detect edge, there are many methods such as Sobel, Prewitt, Laplacian. Because images which are dealt with existing methods are processed in same methods regardless the distribution of gray-level in image, edge detection property is insufficient. Therefore, In this study, to improve shortcomings of existing methods an algorithm using modified expansion mask is proposed.

  • In the modern society, the images provide the most effective information in multi-devices and the edge includes important feature information in such images. This edge is used as an essential preconditioning process in several application fields and many studies have been carried out in order to obtain the excellent images. The methods of Sobel and Roberts which are generally known are simple to implement the images but bring more or less insufficient processing result. Thus, this paper proposed an edge detection algorithm using the area averaging of segmented mask in order to supplement the problems of the current methods and compared it with such current methods.

  • This thesis proposes a face detection algorithm using the color and edge informations in color image. The proposed algorithm segments skin color by Cb and Cr in YCbCr coordinates. Then face candidate regions are made after morphological filtering and labeling. For the regions, the Sobel vortical operation and horizontal projection are performed in the Y luminance components. The peak value indicates the eye location. Similarly, the chin location is detected by the Sobel horizontal operation and horizontal projection. The computer simulation shows that the proposed method gains similar detection rates of previous method and prevent facial region from including neck by detection of chin.

  • A method for edge detection using K-means clustering is proposed in this paper. The method is performed through there steps. Histogram equalizing is applied to the image for the uniformed intensity distribution. Pixels are clustered by K-means clustering technique. Then Sobel mask is applied to detect edges. Experiments showed that this method detected edges better than conventional method.

  • Edges on the images are widely used in preprocessing in various areas including recognition and detection of the object. As generally known edge detection methods, there is a method using mask and these methods are Sobel, Prewitt, Roberts, Laplacian operator and etc. Implementation of these existing edge detection methods is simple. However, when processing the impulse noise added images, the properties of edge detection is not sufficient. Accordingly, in order to compensate for the weakness of existing edge detection methods and to detect strong edges on the images which were damaged by impulse noise, the edge detection algorithm using transformed mask was proposed in this paper.
