Effect of Rice Seed Disinfection of Loess-sulfur on the Suppression of Bakanae disease caused by Fusarium fujikuroi (벼 키다리병 방제에 관한 황토유황의 종자소독 효과)

  • This study was conducted to evaluate rice seed disinfection efficacy of loess-sulfur for the suppression of Bakanae disease caused by Fusarium fujikuroi. Rice seeds were treated at different concentrations of loess-sulfur, soaking time and temperature, and combination of hot-water treatment. Rice cultivar, Shindongjin harvested from Bakanae disease-infested area in 2015, was used. Loess-sulfur was treated as follows; concentration of undiluted solution, 2%, 1% and 0.5%; soaking time of 24 and 48 hours; treatment temperature of $20^{\circ}C$ and $30^{\circ}C$; hot water treatment or not. Optimal conditions of rice seed disinfection were selected soaking time of 48 hours and the suspension of 0.5% and 1% loess-sulfur by investigating seed germination and isolation frequency of Fusarium spp. on Komada agar medium in vitro, and were established 3 disinfection conditions as hot water ($60^{\circ}C$, 10 min.) + 1% loess-sulfur ($20^{\circ}C$, 48 hours), 1% loess-sulfur only ($30^{\circ}C$, 48 hours) and 1% loess-sulfur only ($20^{\circ}C$, 48 hours) through additional test in greenhouse. Above 3 conditions were verified by rice seedling box and paddy field test in the way of investigating Bakanae diseased plants (%) and healthy plants (%). Consequently, most effective rice seed disinfection conditions on Bakanae disease were combination of hot water and 1% loess-sulfur and loess-sulfur only at $30^{\circ}C$. Furthermore, treatments with these conditions showed control value of 100% were maintained from seedling to the heading stage in the field. However, treatment of 1% loess-sulfur only at $20^{\circ}C$ showed low control value of 78.2% in paddy field. Hot water only treatment turned out to be an effective disinfection method when conducted thoroughly with $60^{\circ}C$, 10 min. However, it was thought additional soaking process with loess-sulfur after hot water treatment served more high control effect against Bakanae disease when rice seeds were disinfected on a large scale. This results expected rice seed disinfection with loess-sulfur were effectively and easily usable method if farmers had only one of either hot water-disinfector or seed-disinfector. In addition, loess-sulfur is well-known to farmers, simple to manufacture method and cheap.

Properties of Nonwaxy Rice Flours with Different Soaking Time and Particle Sizes (수침시간과 입자크기가 다른 멥쌀가루의 특성)

  • Effects of soaking time and particle size on physicochemical properties of nonwaxy rice flour were investigated. Nonwaxy rice grains were soaked at $4^{\circ}C$ for 0, 1, 12, and 24 hr, dried at room temperature, and milled, Resulting flours were passed through 45-mesh ($<355{\mu}m,\;IL45$) and 100-mesh ($<150{\mu}m\;IL100$) sieves and separated into $<40{\mu}m\;and\;40-100{\mu}m$ series. IL45 series showed higher amount of large particles ($40-100{\mu}m$) than IL100 series. As the soaking time increased, protein and ash contents decreased, and amylose content, water-binding capacity, swelling power, and solubity of nonwaxy rice flours increased. Swelling power and solibility of nonwaxy rice flours also increased between $65-85^{\circ}C$. Water-binding capacity, swelling power, and solubility of IL100 series were higher than those of IL45 series. 12 hr-soaked nonwaxy rice flour pastes showed higher peak viscosity and breakdown but lower setback and visicosity at $95\;and\;50^{\circ}C$ than 1 hr-soaked ones. X-Ray diffractograms of nonwaxy rice flours were not affected, whereas surface appearance was affected, by soaking time and particle size.

Manufacture and Properties of Gypsum-Wood (Gypsum-Wood의 제조와 성질)

  • Gypsum-wood composites were made by introducing inorganic substances into wood using calcium chloride, first treating solution, and sodium sulfate, secondary treating solution, by double diffusion process under atmospheric pressure at room temperature. The process conducted as follows: water saturated specimens were soaked in calcium chloride solutions at several concentration. Then the specimens were soaked further in saturated sodium sulfate solution, and they were leached in flowing tap water for 24h. To attain sufficient weight percent gain (WPG) values, the suitable concentration of calcium chloride and soaking time in saturated sodium sulfate solution were 20% and 48h, respectively. Inorganic substances were produced mainly in the lumina of tracheides. It was made sure that these substances were dihydrate gypsum($CaSO_4$ $2H_2O$) by X -ray microanalysis (SEM-EDX). The composites had good fire resistance due to low heat transfer rate of gypsum formed in wood. However, the composites had little decay resistances, because they showed high weight losses by test fungi attacks.

데침과 열수 침적의 병용 열처리와 trehalose 첨가가 오이 김치의 저장중의 효소 활성의 변화와 관능 검사에 미치는 효과

  • The enzyme activity and organoleptic properties of Korean pickled cucumber were studies for their changes during fermentation. The Korean pickled cucumber were prepared by blanching and high temperature soaking in salt solution and trehalose treatment The results shelved that the effect of combined heat and trehalose treatment significantly reduced the fermentation rate and softening rate of texture while a rather rapid fermentation was for those pleserved with salt. The effect of trehalose treatment enhenced fermentation and it was significantly reduced softening rate of texture by 2% treatment. The sensory evaluation of Korean pickled cucumber was found that combined heat treatment with blanching and hot solution had a positive effect for reduction of softening of cucumber tissue, however, odor and taste were not significantly affected. This study suggested that combined heat and trehalose treatment might have potential for affording protection against softness of cucumber tissue during the fermentation time.

  • Optimum preparation conditions of Korean traditional sweet rice drink 'malt-Sikye' were 1hour of rice soaking time 30min of malt extraction time 60$^{\circ}C$ of malt extraction tem-perature 60$^{\circ}C$ of saccharification temperature 1hour of agitation interval 5hour of saccharification time 5.5 of pH 4% of malt concentration and 20% of rice content. The malt-Sikhy contained to 17.1% of total sugar 11.2% of reducing sugar o.34mg/ml of protein and 4.7${\mu}$mol/ml of amino acid. The most abundant sugar found in malt-Sikhye was maltose. The commercial amylolytic enzymes were not effec-tive in preparation malt-Sikye.

  • 가스센서는 인간의 오감 중에 후각 기능을 대신하는 것으로 사회 여러 분야에 응용범위가 확대되고 있다. 유기화합물(VOC; volatile organic compounds) 가스는 대기환경을 오염시켜 스모그를 발생하며 인체에 발암을 유발하는 물질이기 때문에 많은 문제와 규제가 예상되고 있다. 따라서 VOC를 감지하고 정확히 분석할 수 있는 환경 측정용 센서에 대한 요구가 절실해지고 있다. 최근에는 고온에서 동작하는 산화물 반도체 센서와는 달리 상온에서 유해성 가스를 감지할 수 있는 전도성 고분자의 특성이 알려지면서 센서 물질로 각광을 받고 있으며, 특히 유해성 가스인 VOC 가스를 검지 할 수 있는 센서로서 주목을 받고 있다. 전도성 고분자인 Polypyrrole를 pyrrole monomer, APS, DBSA를 사용하여 $0^{\circ}C$, 1기압에서 화학중합을 하였다. 만들어진 powder를 chloroform과 DBSA를 사용하여 용액을 만들어 전극에 dipping하고 7$0^{\circ}C$, 질소 분위기에서 1시간동안 건조를 하고 methanol에서 1시간동안 soaking 처리를 한 뒤 7$0^{\circ}C$, 질소 분위기에서 4시간동안 열처리 과정을 통해 센서를 제조하였다.

  • To cultivate Dystaenia takesimana as a fodder crop, Its problems and solutions are summarized follows : 1. There are a wax layer and wings on the out side of seed coat of D. takesimana seeds, which seems to inhibit imbibition and cause delayed germination. 2. The root and shoot growth of D. takesimana are very poor in the early stage and weed control is quite troublesome. 3 The growth of D. takesimana is very poor the soil of low fertility and much depressed in summer. 4 . The percent germination could be increased by removing wings, soaking, high temperature treatment or by chemical scarification. 5. Compost is most effective for the growth of D. takesimana and lime dressing is desired in the soil of low pH. 6 . The seedling growth could be improved selecting and breeding the strains with better germination and root growth, at the germination and growth characteristics of D. takesimana are variable.

  • Porous alumina specimens with 80~92% relative densities were prepared from ultrasonic spray pyrolyzed alumina Powders by sintering at $1600^{\circ}$~ $1700^{\circ}C$. The exaggerated grain growth appeared to high sintering temperature and long soaking time. The microstructural development during sintering was investigated using image analysis. In the study of grain growth kinetics for sintering for spray prolyzed alumina powder, the activation energy for normal grain growth was 386.77 kJ/mol.
