  • The persent paper discusses the relation between water pollution and aquatic organisms resulted from the study of the water quality and the kinds of algea and aquatic insects both of the An-yang River from Mt. Kwan-ak to the Han River and of the Kock-neung River from Mt. Puk-han to the Han River during the spring of 1965 and 1966. According to the change of water quality, the An-yang River might be divided into three areas. In the first area, from Mt. Kwan-ak to near An-yang town, water quality is not so polluted that may aquatic organisms such as Anisogamarus ryotoensis, Epeorus, Cambaroides, Zygnem, Batrachospermum moniliform, Draparnaldia glomerata are found. In the second area where water is polluted by the inflow of sewerage water from An-yang town, the concentration of chloride, COD, ammonia-N, nitrate-N, alkali degree increased. Therefore, few aquatic insects and algea are found. In the third area, it is much polluted by the industrial sewerage water frojm Yeong-dong-po; and so the aquatic organisms that indicate strong pollution such as Oscillatoria, Euglena, Tubifex are found in this area. It is also significant that the Nereis japonica that indicates the pollution of brackish water is discorved in the some area. In the case of the Kock-neung River, however, it is not clearly divided into areas, as in the case of the An-yang Riber, according to the pollution of water; but because of villages and towns along the river the gradual pollution of water; but because of villages and towns along the river the gradual pollution of water is observed and accordingly, a considerable change in aquatic organisms is also found in this river. In the area near II-yeung town, for instance, the concentration of the chloride, hardness, nitrite, nitrate is very low, and ammonia-N is not detected; and accordingly the aquatic insects that generally inhabit in mountain stream, such as Anisogamarus ryotoensis, Cambaroides, Epeorus, Thraubs, Hydropsyche are found here. In the down stream of the river, from Kock-chon, the quality of water is considerably polluted and fine sands are found laid on the bottom of the stream; therefore, the aquatic insects are very few, but the algea such as Navicula, Pleusigma, Oscillatoria that indicate water pollution are found in this area.

  • This study was performed to evaluate contamination degree of heavy metals in sediments of Han River, compared with other nation's evaluation method. The results were as follows 1. The contamination Ratio calculation method by heavy metal concentration in differnt fraction size has a limitation to apply to all of the areas of Han river because of its characteristics of sediment. As a result, this method applied to only 4 areas of Pal Dang, Wang Sook Chon, Uk Chon, and Bul Kwang Chon, and Contmination Ratio of heavy metals in those areas were relatively low of below 3. So it's considered that those areas have less contaminated from anthropogenic contaminants. 2. The Contamination Ratio calculation method by heavy metal concentration in different areasthat of upper area to be background level-has a limitation also to apply to Han river. But it is considered that this method was relatively suitable to apply, so it should be prepared evaluation standand method for them. Contamination ratio from background level as Pal Dang area were most high in An Yang Chon. So it must be prepared purification and control measure at An Yang Chon.

  • We decided Miomotegawa river was the object of our investigation since it is one of the most important salmon rivers in Japan. A great number of salmonshave returned to the river, and it was expected to contain relatively lower cation concentrations since granite is widely distributed in the river catchment area. The concentration of calcium and magnesium were less than a half of that of other major rivers. The concentration of analyzed parameters indicating water quality effect on salmons, $NO_{3},\;SO_{4}\;and\;NH_{4}$, were 1.37, 4.08 and 0.01mg/l, respectively. Most parameters down stream were greater in concentration than in the upper stream.

  • This study was implemented to investigate the anion and cation concentrations of Miomotegawa river since it is one of the most important salmon rivers in Japan. A great number of salmons have returned to the river, and it was expected to contain relatively lower cation concentrations since granite is widely distributed in the river catchment area. The anion and cation concentrations of station 1 except $NH_4{^+}$ were higher than those of other stations. The concentrations of $Na^+,\;K^+,\;Mg^{2+},\;Ca^{2+}$, and $Cl^-$ at station 2 were 8.61, 1.06, 1.84, 4.47, and 14.5mg/l, respectively. In the case of $NH_4{^+},\;NO_3{^-}$ and ${SO_4}^{2-}$, they were 0.04, 2.99 and 5.31mg/l, respectively at station 2 of down stream. However, at station 5 of upstream, they were 0.01, 1.37 and 4.08mg/l, respectively, which were relatively lower than that of downstream.

  • This study addresses the periphytons along the Bukhan river stream and examines the biological indices that represents the river and estimate water quality assessment. Bukhan river in 4 major watershed streams (Bukchon-Hangeychon, Narinchon, Inbukchon, and Soyang river) was selected in 9 points. Land use pattern along the streams showed marked differenced in agriculture areas and forest areas. Lower Soyang streams showed blue-green algae and green algae also appeared in evenly pattern. Thus, the pollution source, biomass and distribution are somewhat correlated, and BOD, SS, biodiversity, and evenness showed a similar pattern. This situation can lead to conclusion of oligotrophic lake with good condition. Therefore, current biological index and is not so desirable for stream degree standard water quality and nutrient level.

  • This study is finding the most appropriate model of kangwondo watershed. To synthesize each hydrograph, It is found to several parameters which are used in existing hydrographes. then the synthestic hydrograph is compared and investigated with many hydrographes of the rivers in kanwondo. These methods, Nakayasu, Clark, SCS are used to calculate the run-off of this watershed. When the calculated run-off is compared with real rating-curves, then it is found that the SCS method using the Clark's concentrantion time is the best way on this area having large watershed, long river length and gentle water slope, the Nakayasu method is more suitable on this area having small watershed, short river length and steep water slope. Also it is founded from analyzing run-off hydrographes, peak run-off and peak time that the Clark's method applied Kirpich's concentration time way is suitable in the area of kangwondo.

  • Korea is located in a monson area, so that 2/3 of precipitation is fallen down in rainy season and dry season has few rainfall. Also, water quality gets worse during dry season by shortage of water. In this paper, the method, which is a physical way to improve water quality by dilution through over supplied water from big reservoir or dam, is analyzed at Han-river basin. For the sake of the analysis, the basin is divided in 33 catchments and each catchments' natural flow is simulated by SWAT-K and the future water demand is estimated by using statistics data. It is considered that Han-river basin has two big reservoirs(Chung-ju dam, So-yang gang dam) and potential discharge by dam is calculated through case of supply water from each dam and supply water from both dams.
