Surface finishes of PCB laminates are important in the solder joint reliability of flip chip package because the types and thicknesses of intermetallic compound(IMC), and compositions and hardness of solders are affected by them. In this study, effects of surface finishes of PCB on the low cycle fatigue resistance of Sn-based lead-free solders; Sn-3.5Ag, Sn-3.5Ag-XCu(X=0.75, 1.5), Sn-3.5Ag-XBi(X=2.5, 7.5) and Sn-0.7Cu were investigated for the Cu and Au/Ni surface finish treatments. Displacement controlled room temperature lap shear fatigue tests showed that fatigue resistance of Sn-3.5Ag-XCu(X=0.75, 1.5), Sn-3.5Ag and Sn-0.7Cu alloys were more or less the same each other but much better than that of Bi containing alloys regardless of the surface finish layer used. In general, solder joints on the Au/Ni finish showed better fatigue resistance than those on the Cu finish. Cross-sectional fractography revealed microcracks nucleation inside of the interfacial IMC near the solder mask edge, more frequently on the Cu than the Au/Ni surface finish. Macro cracks followed the solder/IMC interface in the Bi containing alloys, while they propagated in the solder matrix in other alloys. It was ascribed to the Bi segregation at the solder/IMC interface and the solid solution hardening effect of Bi in the $\beta-Sn$ matrix.
The effect of alloying elements of Ag-Cu-Zr-X brazing alloy on the microstructure and the bond strength of $Al_2O_3/Ni-Cr$ brazed steel joint was investigated. The reaction layer, $ZrO_2$ (a=5.146 ${\AA}$ , b=5.213 ${\AA}$ , c=5.311 ${\AA}$ )was formed at the interface of $Al_2O_3/Ni-Cr$ steel joint by the redox reaction between alumina and Zr. The addition of An and Al to the Ag-Cu-Zr brazing alloy gave rise to changes in the thickness of the reaction product layer and the morphology of the brazement. Sn caused the segregation of Zr was decreased b Al the $ZrO_2$ layer formed at the Ag-Cu-Zr-Al alloy was thinner than that of $ZrO_2$ formed at the Ag-Cu-Zr-An alloy. The fracture shear strength was strongly dependent on the microstructure of the brazement. Brazing with Ag-Cu-Zr-Sn alloy resulted in a better bond strength than with Ag-Cu-Zr or Ag-Cu-Zr-Al alloy.
A part of the bronze bell from Goryeo (918-1392) in the collection of Buyeo National Museum was missing, and it was noted to retain corrosion products and burial accretions. Chemical analysis showed that the chemical composition of the bronze bell is Cu (74.18%), Sn (9.58%), Pb (15.77%), and very small amounts of As, Fe, Sb, Bi, and Ag. It was noted that the microstructure of the bronze bell was mainly made up of α phase and α+δ eutectoid phase, and gray (S) and black (Pb segregation) prevailed. Conservation treatment has been done for the preservation of this bronze bell.
Diverse scientific analyses, including microstructure, ICP-AES, SEM-EDS, and P-XRF(Bench Top type and Gun type), were carried out on 6 bronze artefacts which handed from generation to generation. Also, we attempted to study applicability for authenticity of the bronze artefacts using scientific analyses based on the specific element. The results of ICP-AES analysis showed that the bronze were formed from an alloy of Cu, Sn, Pb with trace elements such as Ag, As, Co, Fe, but there were not Zn found. The result of P-XRF are 10~25% lower in Cu and 10~20% higher in Sn than that of ICP-AES. This is because of destannification that the compound of $SnO_2$ are present on the surface. The results of SEM-EDS represented that there is lead segregation. It was difficult to study applicability for authenticity of bronze artefact according to the microstructures and chemical components of the bronze artefacts. Therefore, as bronze artefacts have shown different corrosion materials depending on the buried environment and conserving environment, identifying the authenticity would be possible on the basis of the additional researches on the corrosion and comparative research of ancient art.
We have the homoepitaxiallayers on the surfaces of Si(111) with and without the adsorbed surfactants, for example, Ag or Sn. In this paper, We have studied the difference of growth for these two cases by the observation of intensity oscillations of RHEED specular spots during the growing processes. In the case of growth without the adsorbed surfactants, the Si atoms fill first the stacking fault layer of Si(111) 7 ${\times}$7 structure. Therefore, the irregular oscillations are observed in the early stage of growing process. However, in the case of growth with the adsorbed surfactants, the surfactants already have the ${\sqrt}{3}$${\times}$${\sqrt}{3}$ structures on the surfaces of Si(111) at the adjucate temperatures of 300`$600^{\circ}C$ and 190~$860^{\circ}C$ for the surfactants of Ag and Sn, respectively. We also find that the number of oscillations is a little larger for the case of growth with the adsorbed surfactants. The reason for this is that for the case of growth with the adsorbed surfactants, the activation energies of Si atoms decrease due to the segregation of surfactants toward the growing surfaces.

The compression behavior of semi-solid materials in studied from a viewpoint of yield criteria and analysis methods. To describe the behavior of materials in semi-solid state, several theories have been proposed by extending the concept of plasticity of porous compressible materials. in the present work, the upper-bound method and the finite element method are used to model the simple compression process using yield criteria of Kuhn and Doraivelu. Segregation between solid and liquid which cause defect of product is analysed for Sn-15%Pb alloy is compared with the experimental result of Charreyron et al..
After replicating 10 bronze types such as Gyemija, Gyeongjaja, Eulhaeja, etc. before the Imjin war, we studied the change of microstructure from each casting process, method, and alloy ratio by Gyechukja replicated from "Donggukyeojiseungnam". We selected the average of compositions of Eulhaeja in the National Museum of Korea as the standard(Cu 86.7%, Sn: 9.7%, Pb: 2.3%) of bronze types, so we decided on the alloy's composition of Cu 87%, Sn 15%, Pb 8% added to 5% Sn and Pb contents because of evaporating the Sn and the Pb. Before replicating major metal types, we made master-alloy first, melting it again, and then replicated metal types. The composition of the 1'st replicated Gyechukja showed the range of Cu 85.81~87.63%, Sn 9.27~10.51%, Pb 3.05~3.19%. The 2'nd replicated Gyechukja made using the branch metal left after casting the 1st replica. The 2nd replicated Gyechukja showed the composition range of Cu 87.21~88.09%, Sn 9.06~9.36%, Pb 2.80~3.05%. This result decreases a little contents of Sn and Pb as compared with metal types of the 1st replica. However, it's almost the same as the Eulhaeja's average composition ratio in the National Museum of Korea. As a result of observing the microstructure of restored Gyechukja, it showed the dendrite structure of the typical casting structure and the segregation of Pb. There is no big difference of microstructure between the 1st and the 2nd restored metal types, even though the 2nd restored types partially decreases the eutectoid region in comparison with the 1st types. The systematic and scientific restoration experiment of metal types using Joseon period will be showed the casting method and alloy ratio, and this will be of great help to the study of restoration metal types in the future.
The stress-strain responses and oxidation properties of cold-rolled Zr-1.5Nb-O and Zr-1.5Nb-O-S alloys were studied. The U.T.S. (ultimate tensile strength) of cold-rolled Zr-1.5Nb-O-S alloy with 160 ppm sulfur (765 MPa) were greater than that of Zr-1Nb-1Sn-0.1Fe alloy (750 MPa), achieving an excellent mechanical strength even after the elimination of Sn, an effective solution strengthening element. The addition of sulfur increased the strength at the expense of ductility. However, the ductile fracture behavior was observed both in Zr-Nb-O and Zr-Nb-O-S alloys. The beneficial effect of sulphur on the strengthening was observed in the cold rolled Zr-1.5Nb-O-S alloys. The activation volume of cold-rolled Zr-1.5Nb decreased with sulfur content in the temperature region of dynamic strain aging associated with oxygen atoms. Insensitivity of the activation volume to the dislocation density and the decrease of the activation volume at a higher temperature where the dynamic strain aging occurs support the suggestion linking the activation volume with the activated bulge of dislocations limited by segregation of oxygen and sulfur atoms. The addition of sulfur was also found to improve the oxidation resistance of Zr-Nb-O alloys.

It has been well recognized that a long term service at elevated temperature of $350^{\circ}C{\sim}550^{\circ}C$ induces embrittlement damage due to carbide precipitation and/or P, Sb and Sn segregation at grain boundaries and thereby deteriorates the grain boundary strength of heat resisting components in the energy-related plants. Therefore, it is very important to assess quantitatively the extent of embrittlement damage of heat resisting components to secure the reliable and efficient service condition and to prevent brittle failure in service. However, because fracture tests are limited in size and number of specimen obtained from the structural components, nondestructive test method is required. In this study, the optimum electrochemical parameters are investigated and discussed to evaluate nondestructive embrittlement damage for aged 2.25Cr-1Mo steels by means of electrochemical polarization test method (ECPTM) in proper corrosive environment. In addition, the electrochemical test results are compared with embrittlement degree evaluated by semi-nondestructive SP test.
The effects of cooling rate on the microstructures, precipitation of Cu-cluster, .epsilon.-Cu and impact toughness of high strength low alloy(HSLA) steel were studied using hardness tester, impact tester, DSC(differential scanning calorimetry), AES(auger electron spectroscopy) and TEM(transmission electron microscopy). Not only the Cu-precipitates but also the segregation of Cu, As, Sb, P, S, N, Sn along grain boundary were not observed at the specimens heat treated from 800.deg. C to 300.deg. C with the cooling time of 12-125 sec. The Cu-cluster, .epsilon.-Cu are formed by introducing ageing after cooling and the effect of precipitates on hardening increase after cooling was the same in all cooling rate. The peak hardness was obtained at an ageing of 500.deg. C in all cooling conditions. The impact energy become higher as the cooling time increases. This fact can be explained to be due to the tempering effect applied on the cooling stage since the present alloy has a relatively high Ms temperature and the local high concentration of the retained austenite.
