Objectives: The purpose of the study is to investigate the factors associated with gingival bleeding(GB) by tooth brushing in college students. Methods: A self-reported questionnaire was filled out by 232 college students in Daegu Health College from March to June, 2014. Data were analyzed for frequency, chi square test, and logistic regression analysis using SPSS 12.0 program. The study was a cross sectional study. The questionnaire consisted of general characteristics of the subjects(gender, age, marital status, and smoking), frequency and duration of tooth brushing, scaling experience, and physical health status. Self-reporting hemorrhage was reported by yes or no. Frequency of tooth brushing was documented as the number of behavior. Above 4 times of tooth brushing was defined as 4. Duration of tooth brushing was documented as minute. Above 4 minutes, it was recorded as 4. In physical health status, 1 is feeling weak and 4 is feeling very healthy. Cronbach alpha was 0.82 in the study. Results: There were significant relationships between gingival bleeding and age(p<0.05), subjective health(p<0.01), tooth brushing frequency(p<0.05) and duration(p<0.05) by chi square test. Logistic regression analysis showed that the age(p<0.05), subjective health(p<0.01), tooth brushing frequency(p<0.05) and duration(p<0.05) were associated with gingival bleeding. Prevalence of gingival bleeding in 20 years was 0.62(odds ratio 1.85, 95% CI 1.00~3.43) and it was higher than that in 10 years. Prevalence of gingival bleeding in good health group was -1.38 and it was lower than that in poor health group. Conclusions: The factors associated with gingival bleeding were age, subjective health, and tooth brushing frequency and time.
The purpose of this study was to offer basic data in order to make it possible for becoming the mentally more matured dental hygienist by being aware of stress factors on employment in preliminary dental hygienists and examining a coping plan according to it. The self-administered questionnaire research was carried out targeting Dental Hygiene Students at 4 colleges in metropolitan area for 1 month from October to November in 2007. Totally 209 questionnaires were collected. Among them, 206 copies were analyzed with methods in frequency analysis, correlation analysis, and ANOVA analysis by using SPSS WIN10.0 statistical program. As a result, the following conclusions were obtained. 1. 84.5% out of subjects were the active students. 95.2% and over 95.6%, respectively, were surveyed to be more than 'moderate' as for the academic achievement level and the satisfaction with college life. 2. the majority in the survey subjects were researched to receive high stress as for 'a guiding professor doesn't lead and have interest in my employment, thereby being disappointing' and 'failing to be employed is likely to lead to hurting pride so much'. 3. a coping type with stress in the survey subjects was researched to select a coping plan much as for 'sincerely hoping for the work to be well done', 'going out for a change', 'establishing a few countermeasures for solving a problem', 'overeating', and 'waiting while thinking it to be solved some time.' 4. most of stress factors had high correlation with a coping type with saying of 'trying to be alone as a whole', and had high correlation with 'failing to be employed is likely to lead to hurting pride so much' and 'overeating'. Even additionally, it was surveyed to have high correlation with 'smoking' and 'depending on the past experience'.
Background: This study aimed to explore the associations of social-demographic, health-behavioral, and woman-specific factors with the non-screening status of the cervical cancer screening test in Korean adult women. Methods: This study was a cross-sectional analysis of 9,698 Korean adult women aged 20 years or more who participated in the Korea National Health and Nutrition Examination Surveys V (2010-2012). Rao-Scott chi-square tests and survey logistic regression analyses were employed respectively to analyze the difference in the non-screening status of the cervical cancer screening test by each characteristic and to explore the factors related to the non-screening status. Results: The rate of the non-screening status of the cervical cancer screening test was 53.5% over the previous 2 years. In the survey logistics regression analysis, age, marital status, educational levels, income levels, residential area, occupation, private health insurance, smoking, alcohol, obesity, menstrual status, pregnancy experience, and hormone replacement therapy were significantly associated with the non-screening status of the cervical cancer screening test. Conclusion: On the basis of the results of this study, some social-demographic, health-behavioral, and woman-specific characteristics of Korean adult women seem to affect the non-screening status of the cervical cancer screening test. Therefore, appropriate health policies need to be designed, implemented, monitored, and evaluated to reduce the non-screening status of the cervical cancer screening test of them.
Purpose: This study aims to discover the degree of department of dental technology students' oral health recognition and to find out the differences of oral health beliefs depending on oral health behaviors. Method: The subjects in this study were the students who attended department of dental technology in Daejon, Daegu, Iksan. After a survey was conducted, the collected data were analyzed with SPSS 23.0. An analysis of frequency, independent t-test, one-way ANOVA, correlation was used. Result: Among the general things related to oral health behaviors was the statistical significant differences(p<0.05) in the area of oral health belief depending on the opportunity of oral health education, attendance of oral health course, self-aware of oral health, the number of times of teeth brushing, teeth brushing status, experience and the degree of smoking. There was a positive correlation between the degree of susceptibility and that of response to severity, barrier, salience and benefit. Severity also showed the positive correlation with barrier. Higher barrier susceptibility meant higher salience and higher benefit. So was the correlation between benefit and salience. Conclusion: This study showed that college education should focus on the students' possible behaviors in order to convey the effective oral health knowledge.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to explore the experiences of people with chronic hepatitis B (CHB) in Korea. The purpose of this study was to examine how socio-demographic characteristics and delinquent behaviors affect the suicidal ideation among the Korean high school students. Using the 35,668 senior high school student cases of 2009 Korean Youth Health Risk Behavior On-line Survey data, it conducted a secondary data analysis. Frequency analysis, chi-square test and logistic regression analysis was done. Being female, living without parents, low economic status, poor academic record, technical school students, young students, poor academic record, internet addition, problem drinking, smoking cigarettes and experience of drug use significantly increased probability of their suicidal thoughts. Findings may be used for tackle the issues of suicidal thoughts among the Korean senior high school students.
Purpose: With economic development and prolonged longevity, the level of health and health disparities have became growing concerns for individual and society as well. Since youth's health status are influenced by households' socioeconomic status and associated with heath status in later stage of life, assessing health inequality in the youth is a significant step toward lessening health disparity and promoting health. We measured health inequality in high school students and decomposed it into health factors. Methods: The subjects included 3,787 high school students of 12th graders from the Korea Education and Employment Panel (KEEP) in 2004. True health status was assumed as a latent variable and estimated by ordered logistic regression model. The predicted health was used as a measure of individual health after rPSraling to [0,1] interval. Total health inequality was then measured by Gini coefficient and was decomposed into health factors. Results: Health inequality in high school students was observed. Of total health inequality, 44% was explained by biological factors such as body mass index (BMI) (32.5%) and gender (13.5%). Behavioral factors such as smoking, drinking, physical activity, hours in bed and hours of computer ussge added to 11.7%. Household income and work experiences explained 5.6% and 8.8%, respectively. School satisfaction explained 14.6%. Other school related factors such as self-assessed achievement and experience of being bullied accounted for 15.5%. Conclusion: Among the health factors, biological factor was the most important contributor in health disparity. Other factors such as health behaviors, socioeconomic factors, school satisfaction and school related factors exhibited somewhat similar magnitude. For policy purposes, it is recommended to look into modifiable factors depending BM, gender and school surroundings.
The purpose of this study was to analyze the effects of adolescents' Internet Usage Levels on their oral symptoms using the data from 60,040 students in the 14th Korea Youth Risk Behavior Web-Based Survey in 2018. The logistic regression for the effects of Internet Usage Level on the oral symptoms were analyzed using a logistic regression method. Symptoms of toothache when eating and throbbing symptoms, and gum pain symptoms showed high levels of stress, and high awareness of pain when lower daily frequency of tooth-brushing. In addition, the less time spent on the Internet, the more subjective health awareness, the higher sleep satisfaction, the less smoking and drinking experience, Results were significantly lower. In conclusion, health education that mitigates adolescents' excessive use of the Internet is believed to enable proper health practices and is intended to help develop health education programs that can prevent such oral symptoms.

Background and Objectives Vocal polyp is one of the most common benign diseases of vocal fold caused by overuse of voice. Laryngeal microsurgery is the first treatment of choice for vocal polyp. However, surgery has many risks such as side effects of general anesthesia, injury of tooth and psychological burden. And we often experience reduction of vocal polyps without surgical procedure. The purpose of study is to evaluate the effect of non-surgical treatment such as vocal hygiene education and proton pump inhibitor (PPI) in patients with vocal polyp. Materials and Method We performed retrospective study for seventy-three patients of vocal polyp who treated with non-surgical modalities such as vocal hygiene education and PPI over three months. Treatment outcomes and risk factors such as age, sex, polyp size, position, symptom duration, presence of laryngopharyngeal reflux (LPR) symptoms, smoking history, voice abuse history and vocal hygiene education were evaluated by comparison between polyp size improved group and non-improved group. Results 5.5% of enrolled patients showed complete response and 23.3% showed partial response without surgery. Polyp size improved group significantly carried out more practice of vocal hygiene education treatment than the non-improved group (p=0.040). And the presence of LPR symptoms [hazard ratio (HR) 3.368, confidence interval (CI) 1.055-10.754, p=0.040] and not performing of vocal hygiene education (HR 3.664, 95% CI 1.078-12.468, p=0.038). Conclusion Vocal hygiene education can be a useful treatment option when making a decision to treat with vocal polyp.
