This study analyzed the effects of ICT technical characteristics of agricultural industry on smart farm entrepreneurial intention by using smart farm effort expectation and smart farm acceptance intention as mediators for smart farm pre-founders. Sub-variables of the technical characteristics of agricultural industry ICT were classified into availability, economics, data convergence and scalability. 349 questionnaires collected from pre-founders living in the country were used for empirical analysis. SPSS v22.0 and Process macro v3.4 were used to analyze the data based on serial multiple mediation model. First, economics and scalability had a positive (+) effect on start-up intention. Second, availability, economics and scalability had a significant effect on effort expectation. Third, effort expectation had a significant positive effect on acceptance intention. Fourth, acceptance intention had a significant positive effect on start-up intention. Fifth, the indirect effects of economics on start-up intention were all significant through effort expectation, through acceptance intention and through both effort expectation and acceptance intention. Sixth, the indirect effect of data convergence on start-up intention was significant through acceptance intention. Seventh, the indirect effect of scalability on start-up intention was significant through effort expectation and through both effort expectation and acceptance intention. As a follow-up study, it is necessary to study for the mediating variables other than mediators introduced in the study or the moderated mediation analysis through the conditional process model in which the moderating variable is introduced.
The aim of this study was to determine the effects of different compositions of environmental substrates on hydroponic tomato cultivation. Three different substrates were used in coir chip:dust (v/v=50:50; CP1), coir chip:dust (v/v=80:20; CP2), and rock wool cube with CP2 (CPR). The amount of irrigation during the cultivation period was 190 mL/(plant time) in all substrates. The pH and EC were 5.8-6.2 and 2.6-2.9 dS/m, respectively. The drainage rate in CP1 was 31%, in CP2 was 36%, and in CPR was 29%. The growth of tomato plants in terms of height was higher in CP1 and CPR. The leaf area was greater in CP2. The fresh and dry weights were greater in CP2 and CPR treatments. The net photosynthesis in CP2 ($19.31{\mu}mol\;CO_2/m^2s$) and root activity in CP2 were higher among all three treatments. The soluble solid content of fruit was not significantly different among treatments. The yield per plant in CP2 and CPR treatments was 17% greater than the yield per plant in CP1. Therefore, the most suitable substrate for hydroponic tomato cultivation is the substrate mixed with coir chip:dust (v:v=80:20; CP2), i.e., CPR.
Since 2015, the government has been making efforts to distribute Korean smart farms. However, the supply is limited to large-scale facility vegetable farms due to the limitations of technology and current cultivation research data. In addition, the efficiency and reliability compared to the introduction cost are low due to the simple application of IT technology that does not consider the crop growth and cultivation environment. Therefore, in this paper, data analysis services was performed based on public and external data. To this end, a data-based target smart farm system was designed that is suitable for the situation of farms growing in facilities. To this end, a farm risk information notification service was developed. In addition, light environment maps were provided for proper fertilization. Finally, a disease prediction model for each cultivation crop was designed using temperature and humidity information of facility farms. Through this, it was possible to implement a smart farm data service by linking and utilizing existing smart farm sensor data. In addition, economic efficiency and data reliability can be secured for data utilization.
Korean agricultural industry has weakened as demand for domestic agricultural products has declined due to accelerating market liberalization, aging and shrinking of rural population, and stagnating rural households' incomes. On the other hand, as the forth industrial revolution unfolds in earnest, tremendous changes are expected, and those changes won't be confined to certain industries but would shaken the world we know of entirely. Smart farm, which is one example of the fourth industrial revolution, is increasingly being recognized as a new growth engine for the future as smart farm and the science and technology behind it, not the size of arable land, will determine competitiveness of the agricultural industry and drive agricultural productivity and managerial efficiency. In consideration that John W. Kingdon's Multiple Streams Framework has recently been presented as an important theoretical model in the policy field, this study analyzed problem stream, policy stream, and political stream in the process of forming the smart farm policy, and looked into what role the government played as policy entrepreneur in policy window. The smart farm policy was put on policy agenda by the government and was approved when the government announced the Smart Farm Plan together with relevant ministries at the 5th Economy-Related Ministers' Meeting held in April 2018. This suggests that change of the government is the most critical factor in political stream, and explicitly indicates the importance of politics in formation of an agricultural policy. In addition, actual outcome of the policy and how policy alternatives that will enhance people's understanding will support it seem to be the key to success. It also shows that it is important that policy alternatives be determined based on sufficient discussion amongst stakeholders.
The purpose of this study is to study the interaction structure of a smart farm for controlled environment horticulture. As a research method, interaction factors were analyzed by defining the growth stages of humans, plants, and plants, which are the subjects of interaction during the production, distribution, sales and consumption stages of smart farms. Additionally, on-site survey was used to differentiate between one-time, short-term, and long-term, depending on the behavior and operation of the interacting entity and time. As a result, the research came up to a finding that 1) Human and Plant are based on interactions of 'one-time, short-term' 2) Plant and Smart Farm as 'short-term' 3) Smart Farm and Human as 'short-term and long-term'. For this reason, this study is meaningful in deriving the relationship between the subjects and the interaction elements in the production stage of the smart farm and presenting a new interaction structure model by structuring them.

In this paper, we studied properties of smart farms that can automatically control not only the temperature and humidity but also the illumination to improve plant productivity. The smart farm was designed to allow the controllers to operate through Arduino by receiving input values from each sensor. In addition, to maximize the convenience of smart farm, the Bluetooth communication module is used to control the smart phone. The study confirmed that the automation function of smart farms can create an environment suitable for plants to grow.

This study is to look at the influential factors associated with the acceptance intention of smart farm and suggest a proposal for spreading adoption of smart farms. The research questionnaire distributed to the farmers were used for the research analysis by statistical program SPSS v22.0 and Process macro v3.0. The technical characteristics of smart farm, which are availability, reliability and economic efficiency were selected as independent variables to analyze the influential factors on acceptance intention of smart farm and the mediating effect of effort expectation was observed. As a result, availability and economic efficiency have a positive(+) influence on acceptance intention and reliability have no influence on acceptance intention. And availability, reliability and economic efficiency have a positive(+) influence on effort expectation. Effort expectation mediates the relationship between the technical characteristics of smart farm and acceptance intention. The results of the study are expected to be utilized at the seeking direction of policy for potential adopters of smart farm, the training and consulting in actual field of smart farm.

Smart pig farm which is based on IoT has been widely adopted by many pig farmers. In order to achieve optimal control of smart pig farm, the relation between environmental conditions and performance metric should be characterized. In this study, the relation between multiple environmental conditions including temperature, humidity and various performance metrics, which are daily gain, feed intake, and MSY, is analyzed based on data obtained from 55 real pig farm. Especially, based on preprocessing of data, various regression based machine learning algorithms are considered. Through performance evaluation, we show that the performance can be predicted with high precision, which can improve the efficiency of management.
Background and objective: Vertical smart farm (VSF) is an alternative that contributes to solving various problems such as climate change and food shortage. This study focused on the types and awareness of VSF to introduce and diffuse VSF. We aimed to investigate the types of VSF and citizens' awareness on VSF. We analyzed 1) where the smart farm technology could be implemented on a building; 2) what citizens think about VSF; and 3) suggested what is most necessary for the introduction and diffusion of VSF in the future based on citizens' perception. Methods: VSF types were investigated through case studies on VSF in Korea and overseas. Citizens' perception on VSF was investigated through a questionnaire survey. A statistical analysis was conducted with the survey results for implications of the introduction and diffusion of VSF. Results: Four types of VSF were derived: rooftop farms, facade farms, indoor farms, and farms using the whole building. The survey showed that 29.2%, 27.8%, and 22.2% of respondents knew well about urban agriculture, smart farms, and vertical smart farms, respectively. Respondents answered that improving awareness is the most important factor to introduce VSF. According to the statistical analysis, it was determined that education and promotion of the necessity of VSF would be important to diffuse the VSF. Conclusion: VSF can be a solution to a variety of problems we face. The results of this study suggest a direction for the introduction and diffusion of VSF. In order to introduce VSF in the future, additional studies must be conducted on the legal system.
