  • The present study explored factors that influence consumers' benefit expectancy about telemedicine service. Responses from a national online survey of 927 adults (aged 19-59), collected in January 2016, were analyzed with multiple regression analysis. The results revealed: (1) Health consciousness positively influenced all three benefit expectancies (all ps < .05); (2) Doctor-patient communication efficacy positively influenced expectancy for convenience improvement (${\beta}=.107$, p < .01) and service quality improvement (${\beta}=.086$, p < .05); (3) Use of health-related smart applications contributed to positive expectancy for service quality improvement (${\beta}=.081$, p < .05) and cost-saving (${\beta}=.067$, p < .05). Some of the relationships were moderated by gender and residence. This convergence study, which examined public's perception about telemedicine from the perspectives of consumer psychology, media, and public health, provides practical implications to promote telemedicine service and educate consumers about it.

  • Korea has the highest suicide rate among the OECD countries, and the suicide rate is highest among young adults in their 20s, most of whom are university students. Therefore, suicide among Korean university students is a public health issue that is of interest to us. The purpose of this study is to investigate the factors affecting the suicidal ideation of university students in Korea, and to use them as a basis to establish effective intervention for university suicide prevention through it. This was a cross-sectional descriptive study using convenience sampling method. The participants were 344 university students at universities in S and G cities. Data were collected with a structured questionnaire and analyzed using descriptive analysis, t-test, ANOVA, Pearson correlation coefficients, and hierarchical regression analysis using with the SPSS/Win 23.0 program. There was a significant correlation between depression (r=.45, p<.001), drinking alcohol (r=.14, p=.008), social support (r=-.26, p<.001), quality of life (r=-.46, p<.001), and suicidal ideation. In the first step of hierarchical regression analysis, satisfaction of school life (${\beta}=.198$, p<.001) was the significant factor influencing the suicidal ideation. Explanatory power was 25.2%. In the second step of the hierarchical regression analysis, absence of parents (${\beta}=-.095$, p=.044), depression (${\beta}=.247$, p<.001), quality of life (${\beta}=-.280$, p<.001), and explanatory power were increased to 42.0%. The results of the study indicate the need to actively identify the group of university students in their 20s with high risk of suicide through continuous evaluation of depression, and to improve the quality of life as a method of preventing suicide. In addition, the effect of absence of parents on the suicidal ideation among Korean university students suggests that parental support may play an important role in suicide prevention.

  • Five kinds of coumarin compounds were successfully purified from Angelica gigas Nakai by using recyclingpreparative HPLC and identified as decursin (1), decursinol angelate (2), 7-demethylsuberosine (3), marmesin (4), and decursinol (5) by NMR analyses. None of the purified compounds in ethanol showed DPPH radical scavenging activity, while the A. gigas extract (AGNEX) displayed a significant level of activity. Interestingly, compounds 3 in phosphate buffered saline (PBS) showed good $ABTS^+$ radical scavenging activity ($IC_{50}=8.1{\mu}g$/mL) as did compounds 4 and 5. The anti-inflammatory activities of the purified compounds were evaluated and compared using the NO concentration assay and western blot analysis on LPS-stimulated RAW 264.7 cells. NO production was significantly suppressed by all the compounds in a dose-dependent manner among which compounds 1, 2, and 3 showed very good activities with $IC_{50}$ values of 7.4, 6.5, and $7.6{\mu}g$/mL, respectively. Treatment with compounds 1-5 effectively suppressed the expression levels of iNOS, IL-1$\beta$, and COX-2, which are responsible for promoting the inflammatory process. Thus, the ethanol extract and coumarin compounds of A. gigas Nakai hold promise for use as potential anti-inflammatory agents.

  • This study was carried out to investigate the anti-oxidative and anti-inflammatory actions of Hericium erinaceus mycelia in BALB/C mice injected with lopopolysaccharide (LPS), called endotoxin. Mice (6 weeks of age) weighing approximately $24.73\pm0.11$ g were divided into 5 groups and were fed on the experimental diets containing Hericium erinaceus mycelia powder (HMP) for 1 week. Experimental groups were NC (normal control), HMP-C (HMP control), LC (LPS control), HMP 3%, and HMP 10%. Endotoxin shock was induced by intraperitoneal injection of LPS (100 mg/kg BW). NC and HMP-C groups were injected with saline solution (100 mg/kg BW). Food efficiency ratio were significantly (p<0.05) decreased in the HMP supplementation groups. Total fat and $\beta$-glucan excretion were higher in HMP supplementation groups than NC and LC groups, while plasma TG level was not different among groups. Plasma ALT levels were significantly (p<0.05) lower in the HMP supplementation groups than in LC group at 8 hr after LPS injection, while tumor necrosis factor-$\alpha$ and interleukine-6 levels of plasma were not different among groups. Hepatic superoxide dismutase, glutathione-reductase (GSH-red), and glutathione-peroxidase activities were higher in the HMP supplementation groups than in LC group at 4 hr after intraperitoneal injection of LPS. Hepatic GSH levels and protein expression of GSH-red was significantly (p<0.05) higher in the HMP supplemented groups than in LC group at 1 hr, 4 hr and 8 hr after LPS injection. From the above results, it is concluded that Hericium erinaceus mycelia may ameliorate hepatic oxidative stress by LPS through the elevation of hepatic glutathione level and antioxidant enzyme activities, which support the hepatoprotective effect of Hericium erinaceus mycelia.

  • This study investigated the effect of waxy barley on the incorporation trans fat (tFA) into plasma lipid and lipid profile through 6 weeks trial. 39 healthy volunteers were divided into 2 groups and fed waxy barley bread (WBG) or wheat bread (WG) containing equivalent amounts of tFA (elaidic acid rich, 3.75 g/day), respectively. Plasma lipid profiles and fatty acid composition at 0, 2, 4, 6 weeks after a respective bread were studied. Plasma lipid was extracted by the method of Folch, esterified by acid transmethylation and analyzed by gas chromatography. The fatty acid composition reflected the fatty acid proportion of the test fat. However, consumption of waxy barley bread with tFA for 6 weeks affected plasma fatty acid composition including tFA. Incorporation of tFA into plasma lipid was significantly lowered compared to WBG than in WG after 6 weeks of consumption. Furthermore, saturated fatty acids such as C16:0 and C18:0 levels were also significantly lowered in WBG than in WG. Furthermore, plasma total cholesterol level and TG/HDL-cholesterol ratio were also significantly lowered in WBG compared to WG at 2, 4 and 6 weeks. These results suggest that waxy barley bread with high $\beta$-glucan lowered plasma trans, saturated fatty acid and total cholesterol levels though the inhibition of lipid absorption.

  • Self-powered neutron detector (SPND) is being widely used to monitor the reactor core of the nuclear power plants. The SPND contains a neutron-sensitive metallic emitter surrounded by a ceramic insulator. Currently, the vanadium (V) SPND has been being developed to be used in OPR1000 nuclear power plants. Some Monte Carlo simulations were accomplished to calculate the initial sensitivity of vanadium emitter material and alumina insulator with a cylindrical geometry. An MCNP code was used to simulate some factors (neutron self-shielding factor and beta escape probability from the emitter) and space charge effect of an insulator necessary to calculate the sensitivity of vanadium detector. The simulation results were compared with some theoretical and experimental values. The method presented here can be used to analyze the optimum design of the vanadium SPND and contribute to the development of TMI (Top-mount In-core Instrumentation) which might be used in the SMART and SMR.

  • Since the analog circuit of the beta ray sensor circuit for the true random number generator and the power and ground line used in the comparator circuit are shared with each other, the power generated by the digital switching of the comparator circuit and the voltage drop at the ground line was the cause of the decreasein the output signal voltage drop at the analog circuit including CSA (Charge Sensitive Amplifier). Therefore, in this paper, the output signal voltage of the analog circuit including the CSAcircuit is reduced by separating the power and ground line used in the comparator circuit, which is the source of digital switching noise, from the power and ground line of the analog circuit. In addition, in the voltage-to-voltage converter circuit that converts VREF (=1.195V) voltage to VREF_VCOM and VREF_VTHR voltage, there was a problem that the VREF_VCOM and VREF_VTHR voltages decrease because the driving current flowing through each current mirror varies due to channel length modulation effect at a high voltage VDD of 5.5V when the drain voltage of the PMOS current mirror is different when driving the IREF through the PMOS current mirror. Therefore, in this paper, since the PMOS diode is added to the PMOS current mirror of the voltage-to-voltage converter circuit, the voltages of VREF_VCOM and VREF_VTHR do not go down at a high voltage of 5.5V.

  • The study is one of fundamental researches for the development of future smart clothing and textile products with blocking properties from electromagnetic waves by analyzing human physical symptoms in using electromagnetic products in such an environments. Among various textiles in the experiment, nano silver has shown the best blocking performance from electromagnetic waves, which decreases depending on the distance. The power spectrum distribution and the incidence of electroencephalogram between blocking materials and aural stimuli has shown that, ${\beta}$, wave appeared to be active in all channels except for $T_4$, whereas all waves appeared with processed materials and especially with nano silver silk(NSS), ${\alpha}$, ${\beta}$, ${\theta}$, ${\gamma}$ waves appeared active in all regions. As for the brain mapping of ${\alpha}$ wave according to time, there found a strong activity in $P_3$, $P_4$ of the parietal lobe, with all materials on all time regions. With silk nylon metal(SNM) and NSS, it appeared strong in $F_3$, $F_4$ as well. As for ${\beta}$, wave, the activity appeared strong in frontal lobe before 7min. 30sec, where it tends to diminish abruptly in 7min. 30sec. to 13min. 30sec. region. After 13min., it regained gradually. With NSS, it appeared strong in all areas except for the farthest $T_4$. The appearance of ${\nu}$ wave can be deduced as it can affect human body with its toxic property while the silver particles become nano-sized. Therefore, the study conducted with human participants requires a proper particle size of it which would not penetrate cellular tissues and a proper binder and binding treatment for it, to prevent the physical fatigues and the potential diseases. However, it is highly required for back-up researches to verify various aspects in applying nano silver to textile products.

  • In this paper, the buckling, and free vibration analysis of tapered functionally graded carbon nanotube reinforced composite (FG-CNTRC) micro Reddy beam under longitudinal magnetic field using finite element method (FEM) is investigated. It is noted that the material properties of matrix is considered as Poly methyl methacrylate (PMMA). Using Hamilton's principle, the governing equations of motion are derived by applying a modified strain gradient theory and the rule of mixture approach for micro-composite beam. Micro-composite beam are subjected to longitudinal magnetic field. Then, using the FEM, the critical buckling load, and natural frequency of micro-composite Reddy beam is solved. Also, the influences of various parameters including ${\alpha}$ and ${\beta}$ (the constant coefficients to control the thickness), three material length scale parameters, aspect ratio, different boundary conditions, and various distributions of CNT such as uniform distribution (UD), unsymmetrical functionally graded distribution of CNT (USFG) and symmetrically linear distribution of CNT (SFG) on the critical buckling load and non-dimensional natural frequency are obtained. It can be seen that the non-dimensional natural frequency and critical buckling load decreases with increasing of ${\beta}$ for UD, USFG and SFG micro-composite beam and vice versa for ${\alpha}$. Also, it is shown that at the specified value of ${\alpha}$ and ${\beta}$, the dimensionless natural frequency and critical buckling load for SGT beam is more than for the other state. Moreover, it can be observed from the results that employing magnetic field in longitudinal direction of the micro-composite beam increases the natural frequency and critical buckling load. On the other hands, by increasing the imposed magnetic field significantly increases the stability of the system that can behave as an actuator.
