An Efficient Neighbor Discovery Method for Cooperative Video Surveillance Services in Internet of Vehicles (차량 인터넷에서 협업 비디오 감시 서비스를 위한 효율적인 이웃 발견 방법)

  • The rapid deployment of millions of mobile sensors and smart devices has resulted in high demand for opportunistic encounter-based networking. For the cooperative video surveillance of dashboard cameras in nearby vehicles, a fast and energy-efficient asynchronous neighbor discovery protocol is indispensable because a dashboard camera is an energy-hungry device after the vehicle's engine has turned off. In the existing asynchronous neighbor discovery protocols, all nodes always try to discover all neighbors. However, a dashboard camera needs to discover nearby dashboard cameras when an event is detected. In this paper, we propose a fast and energy-efficient asynchronous neighbor discovery protocol, which enables nodes : 1) to have different roles in neighbor discovery, 2) to discover neighbors within a search range, and 3) to report promptly the exact discovery result. The proposed protocol has two modes: periodic wake-up mode and active discovery mode. A node begins with the periodic wake-up mode to be discovered by other nodes, switches to the active discovery mode on receiving a neighbor discovery request, and returns to the periodic wake-up mode when the active discovery mode finishes. In the periodic wake-up mode, a node wakes up at multiples of number ${\alpha}$, where ${\alpha}$ is determined by the node's remaining battery power. In the active discovery mode, a node wakes up for consecutive ${\gamma}$ slots. Then, the node operating in the active discovery mode can discover all neighbors waking up at multiples of ${\beta}$ for ${\beta}{\leq}{\gamma}$ within ${\gamma}$ time slots. Since the proposed protocol assigns one half of the duty cycle to each mode, it consumes equal to or less energy than the existing protocols. A performance comparison shows that the proposed protocol outperforms the existing protocols in terms of discovery latency and energy consumption, where the frequency of neighbor discovery requests by car accidents is not constantly high.

  • Purpose: Automated guidance systems (AGSs) for mobile farm machinery have several advantages over manual operation in the crop production industry. Many researchers and companies have tried to develop such a system. However, it is not easy to evaluate the performance of an AGS because there is no established device used to evaluate it that complies with the ISO 12188 standard. The objective of this study was to develop a tracking sensor system using five laser distance measurement sensors. Methods: One sensor-for long-range distance measurement-was used to measure travel distance and velocity. The other four sensors-for mid-range distance measurement-were used to measure lateral deviation. Stationary, manual driving, and A-B line tests were conducted, and the results were compared with the real-time kinematic differential global positioning system (RTK-DGPS) signal used by the AGS. Results: For the stationary test, the average error of the tracking sensor system was 1.99 mm, and the average error of the RTK-DGPS was 15.19 mm. For the two types of driving tests, the data trends were similar. A comparison of the changes in lateral deviation showed that the data stability of the developed tracking system was better. Conclusions: Although the tracking system was not capable of measuring long travel distances under strong sunlight illumination because of the long-range sensor's limitations, this dilemma could be overcome using a higher-performance sensor.

  • 사회적 약자인 청각장애인들의 수화통역 서비스가 대체로 만족스럽게 제공되고 있지 않다. 또한 청각 장애인수 대비 수화통역가의 부족과 일반인과의 즉각적인 소통이 어려워 일상생활에 불편함을 느끼는 청각장애인들이 많다. 이의 문제점을 착안하여 본 연구에서는 청각장애인들이 휴대할 수 있는 수화 통역기를 개발하고자 한다. 청각장애인들의 손동작을 인식할 수 있는 3D센서 립모션(Leap-Motion)을 통해 수화를 인식한다. 립모션 센서와 안드로이드 스마트폰 및 태블릿과 연결하여 손 데이터 값을 분석했다. 분석한 손 데이터 값과 특정 지화(자음, 모음)와 간단한 인사말의 수화동작을 취할 때, 트래킹되는 데이터 값을 비교하여 수화를 인식하고 수화와 인식된 지화의 자음과 모음을 글자로 완성시켜, 텍스트와 음성으로 출력한다. 또한 립모션이 부착된 하드케이스 안에 스마트기기 탈착이 가능한 실용성 있는 수화통역기 제품 개발에 대한 연구를 목표로 하고 있다.

Downscaling Forgery Detection using Pixel Value's Gradients of Digital Image (디지털 영상 픽셀값의 경사도를 이용한 Downscaling Forgery 검출)

  • The used digital images in the smart device and small displayer has been a downscaled image. In this paper, the detection of the downscaling image forgery is proposed using the feature vector according to the pixel value's gradients. In the proposed algorithm, AR (Autoregressive) coefficients are computed from pixel value's gradients of the image. These coefficients as the feature vectors are used in the learning of a SVM (Support Vector Machine) classification for the downscaling image forgery detector. On the performance of the proposed algorithm, it is excellent at the downscaling 90% image forgery compare to MFR (Median Filter Residual) scheme that had the same 10-Dim. feature vectors and 686-Dim. SPAM (Subtractive Pixel Adjacency Matrix) scheme. In averaging filtering ($3{\times}3$) and median filtering ($3{\times}3$) images, it has a higher detection ratio. Especially, the measured performances of all items in averaging and median filtering ($3{\times}3$), AUC (Area Under Curve) by the sensitivity and 1-specificity is approached to 1. Thus, it is confirmed that the grade evaluation of the proposed algorithm is 'Excellent (A)'.

Terra-Scope - a MEMS-based vertical seismic array

  • The Terra-Scope system is an affordable 4-D down-hole seismic monitoring system based on independent, microprocessor-controlled sensor Pods. The Pods are nominally 50 mm in diameter, and about 120 mm long. They are expected to cost approximately $6000 each. An internal 16-bit, extremely low power MCU controls all aspects of instrumentation, eight programmable gain amplifiers, and local signal storage. Each Pod measures 3-D acceleration, tilt, azimuth, temperature, and other parametric variables such as pore water pressure and pH. Each Pod communicates over a standard digital bus (RS-485) through a completely web-based GUI interface, and has a power consumption of less than 400 mW. Three-dimensional acceleration is measured by pure digital force-balance MEMS-based accelerometers. These accelerometers have a dynamic range of more than 115 dB and a frequency response from DC to 1000 Hz with a noise floor of less than $30ng_{rms}/{\surd}Hz$. Accelerations above 0.2 g are measured by a second set of MEMS-based accelerometers, giving a full 160 dB dynamic range. This paper describes the system design and the cooperative shared-time scheduler implemented for this project. Restraints accounted for include multiple data streams, integration of multiple free agents, interaction with the asynchronous world, and hardened time stamping of accelerometer data. The prototype of the device is currently undergoing evaluation. The first array will be installed in the spring of 2006.

  • Modern society is undergoing nutritional imbalance according to the diet as the number of one person increases. This is increasing the incidence of chronic diseases such as gastrointestinal diseases and digestive diseases. This study suggests the prediction of dietary knowledge using multiple regression analysis for preventing chronic stomach diseases. The proposed method manages user's stomach diseases and dietary nutrition through the prediction of nutrition knowledge. It collects user's PHR through smart device and integrates in the health platform. The integrated data analyzes the dietary and activity of the user through multiple regression analysis. It predicts the required nutrients and provides services to users through applications. Therefore, it suggests recommended dietary components and consumed calories, appropriate dietary components based on the user's basal metabolism, and gastrointestinal levels. With the personalized health management, modern people can manage gastrointestinal diseases through a balanced diet.

  • In this paper, With the development of modern science and technology are Sheds to stay indoors rather than outdoors space it increased significantly compared to the past. And a wide variety of research about outdoor air quality until recently, efforts are underway but the issue of air quality in the room is the fact that all considered relatively lightly. As the contamination of the room air is polluted, unlike the natural environment, a large outdoor air dilution rate, the dilution rate is very low, once the contaminated air continuously circulating exerts a very bad influence on the health of people staying in the room. In this study, movement characteristics of the person living in a room, the air measuring device for the study of the active indoor environmental control system reflects the life form to measure the quality of the measured air in real time for transmitting the information to the user of the smart devices, alarm bot It was implemented and operational applications.

  • Recently, the types and amount of data generated, collected, and measured in IoT such as smart home, security, and factory are increasing. The technologies for IoT service include sensor devices to measure desired data, embedded software to control the devices such as signal processing, wireless network protocol to transmit and receive the measured data, and big data and AI-based analysis. In this paper, we focused on developing a gateway for interfacing heterogeneous sensor network protocols that are used in various IoT devices and propose a heterogeneous network interface IoT gateway. We utilized a OpenWrt-based wireless routers and used 6LoWAN stack for IP-based communication via BLE and IEEE 802.15.4 adapters. We developed a software to convert Z-Wave and LoRa packets into IP packet using our Python-based middleware. We expect the IoT gateway to be used as an effective device for collecting IoT big data.

  • Recently, there have been growing requirements in the public safety sector to ensure safety through detection of hazardous situations or preemptive predictions. It is noteworthy that various sensor data can be analyzed and utilized as a result of mobile device's dissemination, and many advantages can be used in terms of safety and security. An effective modeling technique is needed to combine sensor data generated by smart-phones and wearable devices to analyze users' moving patterns and behavioral patterns, and to ensure public safety by fusing location-based crime risk data provided.

  • In recent, ISM (Industrial Scientific Medical) band that is 2.4GHz band authorized free of charge is being widely used for smart phone, notebook computer, printer and portable multimedia devices. Accordingly, studies have been continuously conducted on the possibility of coexistence among nodes using ISM band. In particular, the interference of IEEE 802.11b based Wi-Fi device using overlapping channel during communication among IEEE 802.15.4 based wireless sensor nodes suitable for low-power, low-speed communication using ISM band causes serious network performance deterioration of wireless sensor networks. This paper examined a method of identifying channel status to avoid interference among wireless communication devices using IEEE 802.11b (Wi-Fi) and other ISM bands during communication among IEEE 802.15.4 based wireless sensor network nodes in ISM band. To identify channels occupied by Wi-Fi traffic, various studies are being conducted that use the RSSI (Received Signal Strength Indicator) value of interference signal obtained through ED (Energy Detection) feature that is one of IEEE 802.15.4 transmitter characteristics. This paper examines an algorithm that identifies the possibility of using more accurate channel by mixing utilization of interference signal and RSSI mean value of interference signal by wireless sensor network nodes. In addition, it verifies such algorithm by using OPNET Network verification simulator.
