  • High charge state electron cyclotron resonance (ECR) ion source is important on the performance of heavy ion accelerators. In this paper, a low temperature superconductor (LTS) was used to make a hexapole coil for an 18-GHz ECR ion source. Several hexapole structures, including racetrack, graded racetrack, and saddle were implemented and analyzed for the hexapole-in-solenoid ECR ion source system. Under the appropriate radial confinement field, the smaller outer radius of hexapole can be better for the solenoid design. Saddle hexapole was selected by comparing the wire length, maximum outer radius of the hexapole, the Lorentz force at the end part of the hexapole and the maximum magnetic field in the coil. Based on saddle hexapole, a new design for hexapoles, the snake hexapole, was developed in this paper. By comparative analysis of the Lorentz force at the end part of the saddle and snake hexapoles, the snake hexapole is much better in the ECR ion source system. The suggested design for the ECR ion source with the snake hexapole is presented in this paper.

  • When the presintered ceramics are machined with ceramic tool, the tool life becomes extremely short. The CBN tool exhibits the best performance in dry machining of the ceramics presintered at $1450^{\circ}C$ among all cutting tests. The roughness of the machined surface of the ceramics presintered below $1350^{\circ}C$ is smaller than that of the ceramics presintered at $1450^{\circ}C$ While the performance of the cemented carbide and CBN tools is better in dry than in wet machining, the diamond tool shows adverse tendency. The tool life is not affected by the feed rate and depth of cut. During the following full-sintering after the machining of the presintered ceramics, the surface roughness decreases up to 62%. The finished surface in machining the presintered ceramics is much better than that in machining the full-sintered ceramic.

  • Performance improvement of the DS-CDMA system by the spectrum-overlap is important for better service quality or more system capacity. In this paper, an analysis thor capacity improvement is newly considered when the Lanczos chip waveform is used for the spectrum-overlapped DS-CDMA system. RC(relative capacity) is the ratio of the capacity of overlapping system to that of non-overlapping system, which is used for the expression of the capacity improvement. The optimal overlapping ratio is numerically found to make the maximum capacity improvement When the rectangular chip waveform is used far the overlapping system, maximum capacity improvement is increased by about 10% at the required BER=$10^{-3}$TEX> and the optimal overlapping ratio is 1.23. When the 95 % power bandwidth is considered for the Lanczos chip waveform, maximum capacity improvement is increased by 34.4% at overlapping ratio of 1.55 when the required BER is $10^{-3}$TEX>. The lower required BER far the better communication quality makes gradually smaller capacity improvement.

  • We studied the effect of an Al underlayer on the growth of carbon nanotubes (CNTs) and their field emission characteristics, First of all, CNTs were grown on the Invar catalyst layers with different thickness of 1 to 10 nm, showing that the CNT length was saturated for the catalyst 5 nm or thicker. The CNTs grown on the 5-nm-thick catalyst were ${\sim}10{\mu}m$ long and ${\sim}30nm$ in diameter. Second, an Al underlayer was applied between the catalyst layer and the Ti diffusion barrier to reduce the diameters of CNTs for better field emission properties by forming spherical Al oxide particles on which smaller catalyst nanoparticles would occur. The optimal thickness of an Al underlayer underneath the 5-nm-thick catalyst was ${\sim}15nm$, producing the CNTs with the length of ${\sim}15{\mu}m$ and the diameter of ${\sim}15nm$. The field emission measurements, following the tape activation, showed that the thinner and longer CNTs gave rise to better field emission performance with the lower turn-on and threshold electric fields.

  • Atmospheric water vapor is a key variable in numerical weather prediction (NWP) models, but it is a crucial factor to limit the accuracy of high-precision GPS positioning technique. For both issues, knowledge about the amount of water vapor is extremely important. In this study, we perform a simulation study to utilize GPS signals through a developed tomographic scheme to retrieve 3D structure of atmospheric wet refractivity, which may be assimilated into NWP models for advancing forecasting or position calculation for improving GPS positioning accuracy. For the purpose of knowing the absolute accuracy of the developed tomographic method, a well-defined temporal and spatial varying state of atmospheric profile is utilized. Under such circumstance, several factors that may influence the retrievals can be easily examined and their impacts may be clearly quantified. They include the values of the positional dilution of precision (PDOP) factors of the GPS signals, ... etc. Based upon the use of a variety spectrum of adjustable factors, many interesting findings are obtained. For example, the more is the number of the observed GPS signals the better becomes the retrievals as expected. Also, the smaller is the PDOP value the better becomes the retrievals.

  • The electrodes comprising nano-sized $LiFePO_4$, carbon black and binder are prepared with two different Al current collectors. One is the generally used normal Al foil and the other is the chemically etched Al foil. Surface characteristics of each Al foil and electrochemical performance of the cathodes using each foil are investigated. The electrode from the etched Al foil exhibits better physical and electrochemical properties as compared to those of the normal Al foil because the etched Al foil has rough surface with sub-micron pores which improve the adhesion between the electrode materials and the substrate. The electrode on the etched Al foil has such a strong peel strength that the impedance is smaller than that of normal one. Indeed the $LiFePO_4$ electrode from the etched Al foil exhibits a better rate capability and remains intact even after storage for 1 week at the charged state at the elevated temperature $60^{\circ}C$.

  • In this study, the effect of different shapes on the heat dissipation characteristics of other porous frames on LED lighting frames was studied using finite element analysis. In addition, the heat transfer characteristics of LED frames were tested using a thermal imaging camera and the results of finite element analysis were compared to derive the optimal hole shape. According to the study, the heat dissipation effect was better for frames with hole compared to existing ones without holes. In particular, the heat dissipation characteristics test showed that for frames with holes, the rise time to the maximum temperature is fast and the maximum temperature is significantly lower. Also, we could see that the square and diamond shapes were smaller than the circular pores, but had a greater heat dissipation effect. Through this study, we have concluded that there is a limit to increasing the heat dissipation effect of the frame with a perforated shape, and it is necessary to conduct further research on the change in the shape of the frame in order to achieve a better heat dissipation effect in the future.

  • This study aims to examine the effect of environmental performance and good corporate governance (GCG) on the firm values mediated by corporate social responsibility (CSR). The sample in this study was obtained using a purposive sampling method and collected from 205 companies. The analytical method used is moderating regression analysis. The results of this study indicate, first, that corporate social responsibility affects the value of the company. The results of this study indicate that the better corporate governance will increase the value of the firm and vice versa. Second, corporate social responsibility has a direct effect on the firm value, but the effect is still smaller when compared with the internal mechanisms of good corporate governance. This study also found that corporate social responsibility cannot mediate the effect of good corporate governance on firm value. Third, the company's environmental performance influences the company's value. Finally, the effect of environmental performance on company value will be better if mediated by corporate social responsibility. This result shows that environmental performance is a proof that the company's environmental and social concern, which is manifested in corporate social responsibility, will be responded positively by the market so that it will increase share prices (firm value).

  • Orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) is a modulation technique that allows the transmission of high data rates over wideband radio channels subject to frequency selective fading by dividing the data into several narrowband and flat fading channels. OFDM has high spectral efficiency and channel robustness. However, a major drawback of OFDM is that the peak-to-average power ratio (PAPR) of the transmitted signals is high, which causes nonlinear distortion in the received data and reduces the efficiency of the high power amplifier in the transmitter. The most straightforward method to solve this problem is to use a nonlinear mapping algorithm to transform the signal into a new signal that has a smaller PAPR. One of the latest nonlinear methods proposed to reduce the PAPR is the $L_2$-by-3 algorithm, which is based on the discrete sliding norm transform. In this paper, a new algorithm based on the $L_2$-by-3 method is proposed. The proposed method is very simple and has a low complexity analysis. Simulation results show that the proposed method performs better, has better power spectral density, and is less sensitive to the modulation type and number of subcarriers than $L_2$-by-3.

  • This work presents a comparative study of the morphology and structure related properties of thermoplastic elastomer blends based on SEBS/PP/Oil and dynamically vulcanized EPDM/PP/Oil. A combination of ruthenium oxide staining and low voltage scanning electron microscopy (LVSEM) was found to be suitable for the study of morphology of these highly oil extended blends. h close analogy was found in the mechanical, thermal and rheological properties of the two systems made in an internal Brabender mixer and co-rotating turin screw extruder. The morphology of the blends, as made by the two techniques, was found to be significantly different. In the case of TPVs, the blonds made in the extruder had smaller EPDM domains and better tensile properties. In the case of SEBS, the blends made in the Brabender had more co-continuous phases and showed better tensile properties. Crystallization behavior of the isotactic polypropylene in the blends was found to be influenced by the type of rubber. Blends of SEBS/PP crystallized at a lower temperature than the TPVs. These differences were probably caused by differences in the nucleating ability of the two rubbers.
