ASYMPTOTIC MAXIMUM PACKET SWITCH THROUGHPUT UNDER NONUNIFORM TRAFFIC

  • Packet switch is a key component in high speed digital networks. This paper investigates congestion phenomena in the packet switching with input buffers. For large value of switch size N, mathematical models have been developed to analyze asymptotic maximum switch throughput under nonuniform traffic. Simulation study has also been done for small values of finite N. The rapid convergence of the switch performance with finite switch size to asymptotic solutions implies that asymptotic analytical solutions approximate very closely to maximum throughputs for reasonably large but finite N. Numerical examples show that non-uniformity in traffic pattern could result in serious degradation in packet switch performance, while the maximum switch throughput is 0.586 when the traffic load is uniform over the output trunks. Window scheduling policy seems to work only when the traffic is relatively uniformly distributed. As traffic non-uniformity increases, the effect of window size on throughput is getting mediocre.

Adaptive Binary Negative-Exponential Backoff Algorithm Based on Contention Window Optimization in IEEE 802.11 WLAN

  • IEEE 802.11 medium access control (MAC) employs the distributed coordination function (DCF) as the fundamental medium access function. DCF operates with binary exponential backoff (BEB) in order to avoid frame collisions. However it may waste wireless resources because collisions occur when multiple stations are contending for frame transmissions. In order to solve this problem, a binary negative-exponential backoff (BNEB) algorithm has been proposed that uses the maximum contention window size whenever a collision occurs. However, when the number of contending stations is small, the performance of BNEB is degraded due to the unnecessarily long backoff time. In this paper, we propose the adaptive BNEB (A-BNEB) algorithm to maximize the throughput regardless of the number of contending stations. A-BNEB estimates the number of contending stations and uses this value to adjust the maximum contention window size. Simulation results show that A-BNEB significantly improves the performance of IEEE 802.11 DCF and can maintain a high throughput irrespective of the number of contending stations.

윈도우 버튼 배열 구조의 사용성 평가 (Usability Evaluation of a Window Button Arrangement)

  • Window buttons located on a task bar provide information about windows that have been open as well as active. When the number of buttons on the task bar increases, the button size gets smaller and as a result, it is more difficult to identify. This study proposes new alternatives of presenting window buttons to search for a target button efficiently. An experiment was conducted to evaluate the usability of the new. Factors manipulated in the experiment include 'button arrangement methods' and 'order of buttons'. The 'button arrangement methods' factor is composed of three levels, 'one line', 'changeable line', and 'grouping buttons'. The 'order of buttons' factor is composed of three levels, 'fixed order', 'click-right', and 'order control by user'. The results showed that the main effects were significant in search time. In subjective satisfaction, the interaction effect was also significant. The results could be applied to the design of small screens such as PDA or cellular phones.

무선 Ad-hoc 네트워크에서 TCP 성능 향상을 위한 동적 혼잡윈도우 조정 알고리즘 (An Dynamic Congestion Window Tuning Algorithm for TCP Performance Improvement in Wireless Ad-hoc Network)

  • TCP는 유선망을 위하여 설계되었기 때문에, 유선망과 다른 특성을 가진 무선망에서 서비스되는 경우 성능이 크게 저하된다. 무선 Ad-hoc네트워크에서 혼잡윈도우(congestion window)값은 TCP의 성능에 크게 영향을 준다. 네트워크 상황에 따라 적절한 크기의 혼잡 윈도우 값을 설정함으로서 TCP성능을 향상시킬 수 있다. 본 논문에서는 무선Ad-hoc 네트워크에서 TCP 성능을 향상시키는 새로운 TCP 알고리즘을 제안한다. 제안된 알고리즘은 TCP 수신측에서 최적의 윈도우 크기를 측정하고, ACK 패킷의 윈도우 필드를 사용하여 CWL(Congestion Window Limit)를 최적 값에 세팅하는 최대 혼잡윈도우 조정 기법이다. 무선 Ad-hoc네트워크의 다양한 환경에서 컴퓨터 시뮬레이션을 수행한 결과 제안된 알고리즘이 기존 TCP new reno 프로토콜보다 전송률 및 패킷 손실에서 성능을 크게 향상하였다.

Feasibility Study of Beta Detector for Small Leak Detection inside the Reactor Containment

  • Background: To prevent small leakage accidents, a real-time and direct detection system for small leaks with a detection limit below that of existing systems, e.g. $0.5gpm{\cdot}hr^{-1}$, is required. In this study, a small-size beta detector, which can be installed inside the reactor containment (CT) building and detect small leaks directly, was suggested and its feasibility was evaluated using MCNPX simulation. Materials and Methods: A target nuclide was selected through analysis of radiation from radionuclides in the reactor coolant system (RCS) and the spectrum was obtained via a silicon detector simulated in MCNPX. A window was designed to reduce the background signal caused by other nuclides. The sensitivity of the detector was also estimated, and its shielding designed for installation inside the reactor CT. Results and Discussion: The beta and gamma spectrum of the silicon detector showed a negligible gamma signal but it also contained an undesired peak at 0.22 MeV due to other nuclides, not the $^{16}N$ target nuclide. Window to remove the peak was derived as 0.4 mm for beryllium. The sensitivity of silicon beta detector with a beryllium window of 1.7 mm thickness was derived as $5.172{\times}10^{-6}{\mu}Ci{\cdot}cc^{-1}$. In addition, the specification of the shielding was evaluated through simulations, and the results showed that the integrity of the silicon detector can be maintained with lead shielding of 3 cm (<15 kg). This is a very small amount compared to the specifications of the lead shielding (600 kg) required for installation of $^{16}N$ gamma detector in inside reactor CT, it was determined that beta detector would have a distinct advantage in terms of miniaturization. Conclusion: The feasibility of the beta detector was evaluated for installation inside the reactor CT to detect small leaks below $0.5gpm{\cdot}hr^{-1}$. In future, the design will be optimized on specific data.

적응적 변이추정 기법을 이용한 새로운 중간시점영상합성 (A New Intermediate View Reconstruction using Adaptive Disparity Estimation Scheme)

  • 본 논문에서는 적응적 변이추정 기법을 이용한 새로운 중간시점영상합성 방법을 제시하였다. 즉, 스테레오 입력 영상으로부터 특징값을 추출하고, 설정된 임계값과 비교하여 특징값의 크기를 결정한 다음, 특징값의 크기에 따라 정합창의 크기를 적응적으로 선택하여 정합함으로써 중간시점의 영상을 합성하는 새로운 기법을 제안하였다. 제안된 기법에서는 배경과 같인 특징값이 작은 영역에서는 비교적 큰 정합창에 의한 블록정합이 이루어지고 물체의 윤곽선과 같이 특징값이 큰 영역에서는 상대적으로 작은 정합창에 의한 미세한 정합이 적응적으로 수행되기 때문에 전체적인 정합성능의 개선뿐만 아니라 기존의 기법에서 나타나는 오정합이나 블록화 현상등의 문제점 해결의 가능성을 제시하였다. 또한, 'Parts' 및 'Piano' 영상을 사용한 실험결과 본 논문에서 새로이 제안한 중간시점 영상합성 방법은 기존의 방식에 비해 평균적으로 PSNR은 약 2.32∼4.16dB가 향상되었고, 수행시간은 약 39.34∼65.58% 감소됨을 확인하였다.

단어 중의성 해소를 위한 지도학습 방법의 통계적 자질선정에 관한 연구 (A Study on Statistical Feature Selection with Supervised Learning for Word Sense Disambiguation)

  • 이 연구는 지도학습 방법을 이용한 단어 중의성 해소가 최적의 성능을 가져오는 통계적 자질선정 방법과 다양한 문맥의 크기를 파악하고자 하였다. 실험집단인 한글 신문기사에 자질선정 기준으로 정보획득량, 카이제곱 통계량, 문헌빈도, 적합성 함수 등을 적용하였다. 실험 결과, 텍스트 범주화 기법과 같이 단어 중의성 해소에서도 자질선정 방법이 매우 유용한 수단이 됨을 알 수 있었다. 실험에 적용한 자질선중 기준 중에 정보획득량이 가장 좋은 성능을 보였다. SVM 분류기는 자질집합 크기와 문맥 크기가 클수록 더 좋은 성능을 보여 자질선정에 영향을 받지 않았다. 나이브 베이즈 분류기는 10% 정도의 자질집합 크기에서 가장 좋은 성능을 보였다. kNN의 경우 10% 이하의 자질에서 가장 좋은 성능을 보였다. 단어 중의성 해소를 위한 자질선정을 적용할 때 작은 자질집합 크기와 큰 문맥 크기를 조합하거나, 반대로 큰 자질집합 크기와 작은 문맥 크기를 조합하면 성능을 극대화 할 수 있다.

Glass Frit의 입도가 MLCC 외부전극 Paste의 소결거동에 미치는 영향 (Effects of Glass Frit Size on the Sintering Behavior of Cu Termination Paste in MLCC)

  • Multilayer ceramic capacitors (MLCCs) have continually been made smaller in size and larger in capacity in resent years. However, the end termination electrode is still thick in many MLCCs. In this study, we used small grain glass frit to embody thin film and highly densification in the end termination by improve sintering driving force with well-dispersion and rising surface energy. Pastes were fabricated using size changed glass frit, such as 0.1 ${\mu}m$, 0.5 ${\mu}m$, 1.0 ${\mu}m$, 4.0 ${\mu}m$. Fabricated pastes were applied 05A475KQ5 chip and fired various sintering temperatures to analyze sintering behavior of pastes. Consequently, small glass frit used pastes have many merits than larger, such as well-dispersion, improve cornercoverage and surface roughness, possibility of low temperature sintering. However, we confirmed that small glass frit used pastes have narrow sintering window by rapid completion of sintering densification.

공동주택 향별 창면적비 변화에 따른 에너지 영향도 분석 (An Effect of the Change of Orientation and Window Area Ratio upon Building Energy Requirement in Apartment Housings)

  • Due to the increasing concerns about the buildings which have affected the global environment, most countries have enacted a regulation for the sustainability of domestic buildings. In 2008, the Korean government started to enact a regulation of apartment and office buildings for energy saving. Many research on the sustainable apartment building focuses on $84m^2$ or larger type in response to market demand; therefore, small size type such as $46m^2$ type needs to be researched. In addition, the research on the orientation and window to wall ratio of the building have been separately studied as a means of energy reduction; therefore, the research on correlation of the orientation and window to wall ratio hasn't been fully explored yet. This paper analyzes the energy demand of the apartment building as the change of orientation and window to wall ratio among $46m^2$ and $84m^2$ type. In conclusion, when reducing the window to wall ratio, energy demand was reduced, except when the orientation of the building was between from +10 to -20 from the south.

Le Corbusier 건축의 구조와 외피에 나타나는 모듈러 시스템에 관한 연구 (A Study on The Modulor System Shown in Structure and Envelope of Le Corbusier's Works)

  • As for structural system, which constitutes his construction, there are column inside dimension and span which constitutes plane, and as for constructions for section, there are C.H and slab, and as for constructive factors for envelope, there are window and closing panel of outer wall, and as for opening, there are punching window and wave window. With these constructive parts and opening of envelope, his construction composes volume and mass. The relation of structure and modulor which are shown in his later construction can be divided in two cases that modulor is directly and indirectly adapted for rate and measure calculation of the constructive body. As for indirectly adapted case, we can find it form most of his later construction, it is living place in which human beings life is, and it is adapted mainly for small space. In his construction, he tried to tell human scale and sense of musical rhythm through modulor. In other words, he played sense of space and musical scale by adapting regular and repetitive modulor of opening, and in small space for daily life, he made the size of space into the space which human can perceive. And, if we interpret mudulor in modern meaning, it is an establishment of radius of human act. And, we can make organic and harmonic design of space if we use modulor as origin of human centered measurement calculation, and if we adapt space after dividing by use.
