Bin picking is a task of picking a small object from a bin. For accurate bin picking, the 3D pose information, position, and orientation of a small object is required because the object is mixed with other objects of the same type in the bin. Using this 3D pose information, a robotic gripper can pick an object using exact distance and orientation measurements. In this paper, we propose a 3D vision technique for accurate measurement of 3D position and orientation of small objects, on which a paper label is stuck to the surface. We use a maximally stable extremal regions (MSERs) algorithm to detect the label areas in a left bin image acquired from a stereo camera. In each label area, image features are detected and their correlation with a right image is determined by a stereo vision technique. Then, the 3D position and orientation of the objects are measured accurately using a transformation from the camera coordinate system to the new label coordinate system. For stable measurement during a bin picking task, the pose information is filtered by averaging at fixed time intervals. Our experimental results indicate that the proposed technique yields pose accuracy between 0.4~0.5mm in positional measurements and $0.2-0.6^{\circ}$ in angle measurements.

A survey of small-size contractors in Jeju was conducted to investigate college graduate's CAD (computer aided design) competence. Most of small-size contractors use CAD softwares to review and update drawings submitted from an architect. This research analyzed the curriculum of the architectural engineering in several national universities. The CAD classes have 4 or 6 hours per week and use AutoCAD primarily. This research proposes that a CAD class needs at least 6 hours per week, 2D drawing is the main theme in the curriculum, and exercises to make 3D models are also included in the CAD class. The improved methods, Internet cafe and real time feedbacks using a smartphone, to evaluate the reports and exercise results are necessary.

Cities in the region have a problem in that they cannot accurately monitor small areas because the number of air pollution is differently observed depending on variables such as population, season, traffic volume, and industrial complexes. In order to solve this problem, in this paper, comparative analysis was performed on small areas where representative air pollutants SO2, PM10, NO2, CO, and O3, which adversely affect the human body, are observed through coefficient of determination. In addition, based on Bonferroni's multiple comparative analysis, the air pollution level by period is shown. The map for the monitoring system was linked with the coordinates of each small city to visualize air pollutants for small cities based on the analysis data. Through this, it is possible to provide the user with a monitoring system of air pollutants for the region more precisely, and to prevent them from accidents that may occur due to air pollution in everyday life.
The ubiquitous flexible operating system (UbiFOS) is a real-time operating system designed for cost-conscious, low-power, small to medium-sized embedded systems such as cellular phones, MP3 players, and wearable computers. It offers efficient real-time operating system services like multi-task scheduling, memory management, inter-task communication and synchronization, and timers while keeping the kernel size to just a few to tens of kilobytes. For flexibility, UbiFOS uses various task scheduling policies such as cyclic time-slice (round-robin), priority-based preemption with round-robin, priority-based preemptive, and bitmap. When there are less than 64 tasks, bitmap scheduling is the best policy. The scheduling overhead is under 9 ${\mu}s$ on the ARM926EJ processor. UbiFOS also provides the flexibility for user to select from several inter-task communication techniques according to their applications. We ported UbiFOS on the ARM9-based DVD player (20 kB), the Calm16-based MP3 player (under 7 kB), and the ATmega128-based ubiquitous sensor node (under 6 kB). Also, we adopted the dynamic power management (DPM) scheme. Comparative experimental results show that UbiFOS could save energy up to 30% using DPM.

In this paper, a small internal antenna for a mobile handset is presented using multiband, wideband, and high-isolation multiple-input multiple-output techniques. The proposed antenna consists of three planar inverted-F antennas (PIFAs) that operate in the global system for mobile communication (GSM900), the digital communication system (DCS), the personal communication system (PCS), the universal mobile telecommunication system (UMTS), and wireless local area network (WLAN) bands with a physical size of $40mm{\times}10mm{\times}10mm$. A resonator attached to the folded PIFA creates dual resonances, achieving a wide bandwidth of approximately 460 MHz, covering the DCS, PCS, and UMTS bands; a meander shorting line is used to improve impedance matching. Additionally, a modified neutralization link is embedded between diversity antennas to enhance isolation, which results in a 6-dB improvement in the isolation and less than 0.1 in the envelope correlation coefficient evaluated from the far-field radiation patterns. Simulation and measurements demonstrate very similar results for S-parameters and radiation patterns. Peak gains show 3.73 dBi, 3.77 dBi, 3.28 dBi, 2.15 dBi, and 5.86 dBi, and antenna efficiencies show 56.15%, 72.15%, 68.59%, 52.92%, and 82.93% for GSM900, DCS, PCS, UMTS, and WLAN bands, respectively.

To address challenges of an unprecedented growth in mobile data traffic, the ultra-dense network deployment is a cost efficient solution to off-load the traffic over other small cells. However, the real traffic is often much lower than the peak-hour traffic and certain small cells are superfluous, which will not only introduce extra energy consumption, but also impose extra interference onto the radio environment. In this paper, an elastic energy efficient cell management scheme is proposed based on flow scheduling among multi-layer ultra-dense cells by a SDN controller. A significant power saving was achieved by a cell-level energy manager. The scheme is elastic for energy saving, adaptive to the dynamic traffic distribution in the office or campus environment. In the end, the performance is evaluated and demonstrated. The results show substantial improvements over the conventional method in terms of the number of active BSs, the handover times, and the switches of BSs.

Wireless sensor networks consist of small battery powered devices with limited energy resources. Once deployed, the small sensor nodes are usually inaccessible to the user, and thus replacement of the energy source is not feasible. Hence, energy efficiency is a key design issue that needs to be enhanced in order to improve the life span of the network. Directed Diffusion is a well known routing protocol. In this paper we adopt the clustering mechanism to improve the efficiency of Directed Diffusion. We introduce C-Directed Diffusion which make clusters, select the CH(Cluster Head) and CHs do the same process as in Directed Diffusion. C-Directed Diffusion is pretty simple and show better performance than Directed Diffusion.

The green IT technology is being introduced in diverse sectors, especially in the data center and green computer sectors. Rack-type PCs, which have been developed by improving the computer hardware, are effective for data centers and large businesses, but they are not usually introduced in small organizations such as small and medium businesses and schools because they require high initial costs. Power-saving PC software enables the inexpensive power control, but the installation of the power-saving software in all computers in the organization is not an easy task. Computer users in the organization are usually not cooperative as they do not think the power-saving cost is directly related to themselves. In this paper, a technique wherein the server has a restriction in providing the IP address to the computers that has no power-saving software is proposed, so that users will cooperate in the PC power-saving system to avoid inconvenience. In order to provide restricted IP address periodically, the server makes a request of power-saving software installation check for user's PC. Proposed technique is more effective ways to save computer energy, because it does not depend on specific systems or organizations.

The two-stage linear discrimination analysis (TSLDA) is a feature extraction technique to solve the small size sample problem in the field of image recognition. The TSLDA has retained all subspace information of the between-class scatter and within-class scatter. However, the feature information in the four subspaces may not be entirely beneficial for classification, and the regularization procedure for eliminating singular metrics in TSLDA has higher time complexity. In order to address these drawbacks, this paper proposes an improved two-stage linear discriminant analysis (Improved TSLDA). The Improved TSLDA proposes a selection and compression method to extract superior feature information from the four subspaces to constitute optimal projection space, where it defines a single Fisher criterion to measure the importance of single feature vector. Meanwhile, Improved TSLDA also applies an approximation matrix method to eliminate the singular matrices and reduce its time complexity. This paper presents comparative experiments on five face databases and one handwritten digit database to validate the effectiveness of the Improved TSLDA.

Multiple expression levels of genes obtained using time series microarray experiments have been exploited effectively to enhance understanding of a wide range of biological phenomena. However, the unique nature of microarray data is usually in the form of large matrices of expression genes with high dimensions. Among the huge number of genes presented in microarrays, only a small number of genes are expected to be effective for performing a certain task. Hence, discounting the majority of unaffected genes is the crucial goal of gene selection to improve accuracy for disease diagnosis. In this paper, a non-Gaussian weight matrix obtained from an incremental model is proposed to extract useful features of multivariate time series microarrays. The proposed method can automatically identify a small number of significant features via discovering hidden variables from a huge number of features. An unsupervised hierarchical clustering representative is then taken to evaluate the effectiveness of the proposed methodology. The proposed method achieves promising results based on predictive accuracy of clustering compared to existing methods of analysis. Furthermore, the proposed method offers a robust approach with low memory and computation costs.
