  • In recent years, the reduction of international award and project loss by Korean contractors have become a big issue not only in industry but also in academic fields. However, many researches have not focused on small and medium subcontractors but on the large contractors, even though the number of international project by small and medium companies is more than by large companies. Therefore, this study focuses on analyzing the predicted risk before bid and the actual risk after award in international subcontracting projects. In addition, it provides the difference between project performances according to the contract types and the project profitability. This study is expected to give more informed risk knowledge to small and medium subcontractors, which enables them to pay attention to managing risk for better project performances.

  • Recent historical unit price is presented by the Korea Institute of Construction Technology (KICT) and it is analyzed by data from large-scale projects. Therefore it has problem applying to small-scale projects. To indicate the problem, the study compared historical unit price of large-case project and small-case project in the case of civil engineering work, building construction, and mechanical facility work. As a result, average historical unit price of small-scale project was 26.6% higher than large-scale project. On the other hand, difference on the labor cost was 18.4%, difference on material cost and overheads were 8.18%. Moreover, the study proposed compensation method to correct to apply recent historical unit price to small-scale project.

  • The systemization of construction information is required over whole life cycle of facilities to improve productivity of construction industry. BIM(Building Information Modeling) is a technology to manage information based on 3D information model. It has been actively suggested as one of the alternatives. However, it may be currently concentrated on the large project while the small and medium project based on BIM are slightly treated in indifference. In the case of small and medium project, the loss of information has been occurred more seriously than large project. However, it is hard to introduce BIM to the small and medium companies due to the lack of investment resources. This study has been performed to set up information management system based on BIM considering characteristics of small and medium project without excessive investment. In this study, pseudo BIM is defined as BIM for small and medium project. The concept of pseudo BIM has been suggested. The PLIB of ISO and construction information classification system of MOLIT in Korea are used to construct data dictionary for pseudo BIM. A pilot test is performed to verify the effectiveness of pseudo BIM.

  • Despite the government's constant exertions on making a win-win environment through positive discrimination for small and medium-sized companies and local companies, they are suffering from order polarization, weak competitiveness to win a project, and low profitability in highly competitive market situations resulting from the contraction of the construction market. This study examined the U.S. policy and regulations on protecting the relatively weak entities in the construction industry, focused on a goaling program, setting aside the bid preference for small and middle-sized companies and local companies. From benchmarking, some implications were drawn to reconsider the goal of policy and regulations for small and medium-sized companies and local companies. In conclusion, unlike domestic positive discrimination regulations, which are based on the concept of market sharing that can allow a paper company to survive, those of the U.S. are based on the principle of fair competitiveness, and also provide a certain degree of advantage for small and medium-sized companies and local companies. Therefore, the domestic positive discrimination policy and regulations for small and medium-sized companies and local companies need to be reconsidered toward the direction of not only protecting them but also to strengthen their competitiveness in the market.

  • Nowadays, it seems we are in the high time of construction design because development of construction technology widen the option of construction exterior closing materials and deepen the high-tech construction method with all various materials. When we see the flow of construction market, the mainstream is the high-rise intelligent building, which makes the best use of the small midtown area efficently. Therefore, Alum curtain wall is becoming the main material of exterior construction, the concept of which is changing from just a simple window frame to an outer wall which has comprehensive function and capability. As we think of the importance of Curtain wall as a comprehensive outer wall, We should do thorough technical examination and verification at the stage of construction design and plan of carrying out construction.

  • The purpose of this study is to derive construction-phase risk factors in SMEs' advance into overseas plant construction projects. For this, construction-phase risk factors were investigated on the basis of the analysis of Korean construction companies, overseas plant industry-related research institutes, and overseas data. In addition, major risk factors were derived from the investigated construction-phase risk factors, and quantitative risk factors and qualitative risk factors were analyzed and derived from these major risk factors, by the use of three rounds of the Delphi analysis.

  • This study is intended to investigate an influence of the kinds and the maximum size of aggregate on the compressive strength of small size core specimen. According to the results, the compressive strength of standard specimen is large in order of basalt, granite and limestone aggregate, and shows increasing tendency as the maximum size of aggregate grows large. The compressive strength of concrete using basalt aggregate shows similar tendency to granite aggregate, and that of concrete using limestone aggregate decreases slightly, compared with granite aggregate. The reducing ratio of the compressive strength of 25mm core specimen is least when the maximum size of aggregate is 10mm. But the compressive strength of 50 and 100mm core specimen is almost not influenced by the maximum size of aggregate.

  • Recently there are many efforts for saving energy in building. therefore Building energy management systems(BEMS) are expected to a reduction energy cost. BEMS has many benefits which could switch plant on and off automatically. Also It optimize plan operation and services, monitor plant status and environmental conditions and to provide energy analysis and management information. In these days, many public buildings are applied BEMS but there are few studies about application of small or medium buildings. Therefore, in this study, we will find how to apply BEMS in small or medium buildings.

  • In this study, determination methods of monitoring location in water distribution system were suggested and applied to real test bed. Small block of Gwangtan water distribution system is consisted of 582 pipes, 564 junctions, 1 reservoir, and 1 pump station. Small block of Ho Chi Minh water distribution system is consisted of 162 pipes, 148 junctions, and 1 reservoir. Two small block water distribution systems were analyzed by pressure contribution analysis method to determine the optimum monitoring locations. The pressure change was estimated at each junctions by the additional demand at a junction. From the results, the optimum monitoring location can be determined by rank of pressure contribution index at each junctions due to demand change at a junction.

  • In this study, it evaluate the impact resistance of UHPC by repeated impact. smooth steel fiber and polyvinyl alcohol fiber were reinforced in UHPC respectively. Overall, the impact resistance of the specimens reinforced with 0.4vol.% PVA fiber was high, and the crater diameter was small in specimens using 13mm fiber. When 19 mm steel fiber is used, the fracture depth is small due to the increase of macro crack resistance compared with other specimens. On the other hand, in the case of the fracture area, it is considered that the use of the fiber of 13 mm causes an increase in the stress dispersion effect to occur small.
