Wide Bandwidth Circularly Polarized Aperture Coupled Microstrip Antenna using Cross-slot (십자 슬롯을 이용한 광대역 원형편파 적층 개구결합 마이크로스트립 안테나)

  • A novel single feed wide band CP stacked microstrip antenna using crossed slots has been designed, fabricated and measured. For the single rediating element the designed 10dB return loss bandwidth is 34.5%99.45~13.54 GHz), 3dB axial ratio bandwidth is 18.7%(11.17~13.39GHz), and 6 dB gain bandwidth is 29%(10.21~13.64GHz). For the 2$\times$2 array designed using a sequential rotation method, the 10dB return loss bandwidth is 35.9%(9.69~13.94GHz), 3dB axial ratio bandwidth is 34.6GHz (9.93~14.03GHz), and 6dB gain bandwidth is 27.4%(10.35~13.6GHz). For the fabricated 8$\times$8 array antenna, the 10dB return loss bandwidth is 27.3%(10.17~13.41GHz), 3dB axial ratio bandwidth is 27.9GHz(10.1~13.4GHz), and the radiation pattern is good agreement with theory. This antenna can be used for broadband applications for communications or broadcasting in Ku band.

On the Performance Enhancements of VC Merging-capable Scheduler for MPLS Routers by Sequence Skipping Method (Sequence Skipping 방법을 이용한 MPLS 라우터의 VC 통합기능 스케쥴러의 성능 향상에 관한 연구)

  • VC merging involves distinguishing cells from an identical merged VC label. Various approaches have been proposed to help this identification process. However, most of them incur additional buffering, protocol overhead and/or variable delay. They make the provision of QoS difficult to achieve. So it was proposed a merge capable scheduler to support VC-merging (VCMS). However, in situations where all VCs are to be merged or the incoming traffic load is very low, it could happen that there are not enough non-merging cells to snoop. In this situation the scheduler uses special control cells to fill the empty time slots out. Too many control cells can cause high cell loss ratio and an additional packet transfer delay. To overcome the drawbacks, we propose a Sequence Skipping(SS) method where the sequencers skip the empty queues and insert SS cells. We show SS method is suitable for VC-merging and can reduce the cell loss ratio and the mean packet transfer delay through simulations.

  • The improved DFSA for 2.4GHz multi-tags active RFID is suggested in 2 different ways: 1) simplified tag collection and Ack procedure using query command and 2) modified Schoute's method to control the number of slots in the frame. To evaluate the performance of the improved system we develop the simulation model. Varying the number of tags in the system we track the performance measures such as throughput, recognition time for multi-tags and tag recognition rate during a given time. The suggested method shows the best performance over all measures. Simplification of collection and Ack commands using query commands contributes to reducing tag recognition time. And the modified Schoute's method which controls the frame size using $k_1$ and $k_2$ contributes to throughput improvement and reduces target cognition time by reducing the number of collection rounds.

  • This paper considers the scenario in which a set of nodes share a common channel. Some nodes have a rechargeable battery and the others are plugged to a reliable power supply and, thus, have no energy limitations. We consider two source-destination pairs and apply the concept of cognitive radio communication in sharing the common channel. Specifically, we give high-priority to the energy-constrained source-destination pair, i.e., primary pair, and low-priority to the pair which is free from such constraint, i.e., secondary pair. In contrast to the traditional notion of cognitive radio, in which the secondary transmitter is required to relinquish the channel as soon as the primary is detected, the secondary transmitter not only utilizes the idle slots of primary pair but also transmits along with the primary transmitter with probability p. This is possible because we consider the general multi-packet reception model. Given the requirement on the primary pair's throughput, the probability p is chosen to maximize the secondary pair's throughput. To this end, we obtain two-dimensional maximum stable throughput region which describes the theoretical limit on rates that we can push into the network while maintaining the queues in the network to be stable. The result is obtained for both cases in which the capacity of the battery at the primary node is infinite and also finite.

  • In this paper, we work for the efficient use of the initial ranging contention slot in OFDMA based wireless mobile networks. Specially, the collision reduction method using an automatic adaptive optimal algorithm is studied for initial ranging contention slot used at initial connection of the mobile terminals. As a result, we propose the algorithm that achieves the collision minimization and the auto-dynamic slot arrangement of the initial ranging slots. To evaluate the proposed algorithm, we compare the simulation results of IEEE802.16e fixed initial ranging slot allocation method versus the proposed algorithm. The simulator is developed based on the IEEE802.16e standard MAC frame structure and processing procedures. As the simulation results, we can expect the proposed algorithm can be applied for the unmanned coastal base station because the proposed algorithm has the effect of minimizing administration cost for the base station.

  • A robotically assisted field material handling system designed for loading and unloading of a planar pallet with a forklift in unstructured field environment is presented. The system uses combined acoustic/visual sensing data to define the position/orientation of the pallet and to determine the specific locations of the two slots of the pallet, so that the forklift can move close to the slot and engage it for transport. In order to reduce the complexity of the material handling operation, we have developed a method based on the integration of 2-D range data of Poraloid ultrasonic sensor along with 2-D visual data of an optical camera. Data obtained from the two separate sources complements each other and is used in an efficient algorithm to control this robotically assisted field material handling system . Range data obtained from two linear scannings is used to determine the pan and tilt angles of a pallet using least mean square method. Then 2-D visual data is used to determine the swing angle and engagement location of a pallet by using edge detection and Hough transform techniques. The limitations of the pan and tilt orientation to be determined arc discussed. The system developed is evaluated through the hardware and software implementation. The experimental results are presented.

  • WBAN is short range wireless communication technology which is consists of several small devices close to, attached to or implanted into the human body. WBAN is classified into between medical and non-medical by applications based on technology and medical data with periodic characteristics is used the GTS method for transmitting data to guarantee the QoS. In this paper we proposed algorithm that resolve lack of GTSs while data transmit GTS method in superframe structure of WBAN. Coordinator dynamically allocates GTSs according to the data rate of devices and make devices share GTSs when lack of GTSs. We compared delay bounds, throughput for performance evaluation of the proposed algorithm. In other words, we proposed algorithm adaptive WFQ scheduling that GTS allocation support differential data rate in environments of WBAN. The experiment results show the throughput increased and the maximum delay decreased compared with Round Robin scheduling.

  • In RFID system one of the problems that we must solve is to devise a good anti-collision algorithm to improve the efficiency of tag identification which is usually low because of tag collision. Among the existing RFID anti-collision algorithms, Framed Slotted ALOHA algorithm though simple, has a disadvantage that the number of slots used to identify the tags increases exponentially as the number of tags does. In the paper, we propose a new anti-collision algorithm called Partial-Response Framed Slotted ALOHA(PRFSA) which restricts the number of responding tags by dividing the tags into a number of groups when there are large number of tags and changes the frame size when there are small tags. Since the proposed algorithm keeps the frame size and the number of responding tags in such a way that can increase slot utilization, the algorithm shows superior performance to the existing ones. The simulation results showed that the proposed algorithm improves the slot efficiency by 85~100% compared to the existing algorithm.

  • In this paper, We has proposed two DGS(Defected Ground Structure) resonators and designed the low-pass filter using the proposed DGS types. This structure consists of two rectangular slots, a ‘II type’ slot on the ground plane, and the stub at the transmission line. It has strong advantages that can vary the return loss at the passband freely and also can easily tune the attenuation pole frequency at the stopband. For enhancing the poor skirt property at the cutoff frequency of the Single Stub ‘II Type’ DGS cell, we have obtained the steep slope attenuation characteristic by combining the rectangular slot on both sides of the DGS. This type of the LPF with the proposed structure can be made more smaller than the existing filters and be used to find the various applications for eliminating the hamonics and spurious mode at WLL and the 2.4 GHz ISM band systems.

  • For vehicle safety-related services using wireless communications, reliable collection of various driving informations transmitted periodically by neighbor vehicles is the most important. Every host vehicle analyses them to estimate a potential dangerous situation in a very short time and warns drivers to prevent an accident. However tremendous amount of periodic messages can cause the wireless communication in chaos and the services not in safe. In this paper, we propose a time-division broadcasting protocol to mitigate the communication congestion. It utilizes the received information of vehicle velocity and location, i.e. vehicle traffic density on a road to adjust the number of time slots in a given broadcasting period, and transmission power. The simulation results show that message reception ratio is changed to approximately 40% and channel access time also decreased from 10ms to 0.23ms.
