  • In this paper, we proposed a novel compact microstrip lowpass filter with an ultra-wide stopband and a sharp cutoff frequency response. To improve the cutoff response of the conventional filter, the coupling effect between two open stubs is used. The slot on the ground with conventional shunt open stubs plays an important role of increasing the stopband at a high frequency. The combination of these structures gives the filter the characteristics of an ultra-wide stopband with a prominent cutoff sharpness. The fabricated microstrip lowpass filter with the size of 19.2 mm $\times$ 14.9 mm has -3 dB cutoff frequency at 1.1 GHz and -20 dB stopband from 1.5 GHz to over 30 GHz. The insertion loss is less than -0.15 dB in the passband.

  • An eight-element compact low-profile multi-input multi-output (MIMO) antenna is proposed for wireless local area network (WLAN) mobile applications. The proposed antenna consists of eight inverted-F antennas with an isolation-enhanced structure. By inserting the isolation-enhanced structure between the antenna elements, the slot and capacitor pair generates additional resonant frequency and decreases mutual coupling between the antenna elements. The overall size of the proposed antenna is only $33mm{\times}33mm$, which is integrated into an area of just $0.5{\lambda}{\times}0.5{\lambda}$. The proposed antenna meets 5-GHz WLAN standards with an operation bandwidth of 4.86 - 5.27 GHz and achieves an isolation of approximately 30 dB at 5 GHz. The simulated and measured results for the proposed antenna are presented and compared.

  • In this paper, a novel electrically small monopole type resonant antenna is proposed. The very short length monopole (${\iota}{\approx}{\lambda}_g/15$ ) acts as a capacitive element and the slot on the ground structure acts as an inductive element, hence the combined system with these two elements thus form an LC resonator. The equivalent circuit model of the antenna structure was used to analysis and qualify the design correctness. Although the proposed antenna has very small size, it shows good performances. The measured maximum gain and radiation efficiency of the fabricated antenna at the frequency of 2.1 GHz was 3.6 dBi and 77.8 %, respectively.

  • MAC(Medium Access Control) is demanded to provide end-to-end QoS(Quality of Service) for a variety of traffic in the wireless networks. When all the traffic is integrated in the channel, the main difficulty of the MAC protocol is how to efficiently support multi-class traffic in the limited bandwidth wireless channel. In this paper, we proposed the dynamic bandwidth slot method for improving QoS of the real time traffics. In this paper, we used in-band scheme to send dynamic parameter and considering buffer size and delay variation, we enabled 2 state bits to send to base station in mobile station. The proposed algorithm is to guarantee QoS of real time traffic and maximize transfer efficiency in wireless networks.

  • The purpose of this study is to design for MOB antenna attached on safety helmet using microstrip patch antenna. The patch antenna is fabricated in 0.2 mm FR-4 substrate with $64{\times}64mm$ size. The proposed antenna is based on a slot-ring design which cover Inmarsat (1.52 ~ 1.65 GHz) and GPS (1.575 GHz) frequency band. To obtain the optimized parameters, HFSS simulator is used, and antenna is designed by optimized parameters. After antenna was etched, SMA connector was attached to the microstrip feeding line and the result between antenna simulation and measurement was analyzed. Proposed antenna is satisfied the -10 dB bandwidth requirement while simultaneously covering the 1.53 ~ 1.65 GHz.

  • In this paper, we designed and implemented the dual band monopole antenna for cellular CDMA(Code Division Multiple Access) and IMT-2000(International Mobile Telecommunication 2000) repeater. The antenna was designed by using 3D simulations program, HFSS(High Frequency Structure Simulator). Electrical characteristics were measured by using HP 8720C network analyzer and measured maximum S$\_$11/ was -10.9 dB for all frequency bands of interests in Cellular CDMA and IMT-2000. Simulation results for antenna gain at 859 MHz and 2027.5 MHz were 2.38 dBi and 4.02 dBi respectively with omni directional radiation pattern. The size of implemented antenna is compact and the antenna can be produced in low cost enough for commercialization.

  • Since Bianchi's 2-D Markov Chain Model considers collision problem only in ideal channel condition, it does not reflect real channel impaired by fading, interference, and noise. Distributed Coordination Function(DCF) doubles its contention window(CW) when transmission fails regardless of collision or transmission error. Increase of CW caused by transmission error degrade throughput and increase the delay. In this paper, we present quantitative analysis of the impact of the parameters such as contention window size(CW), transmission probability for a given time slot(${\Im}$), transmission failure probability($p_f$), on the system performance and provide a method how to decrease the initial CW to achieve equivalent performance.

  • This paper proposes an estimation method of number of tags which may be necessary in improving anti-collision performance for ALOHA-based RFID systems. In ALOHA-based anti-collision algorithms, since the performance of the multi tag identification can be improved by allocating the optimal slot size corresponding to the number of tags, it is needed to exactly estimate the number of tags. The proposed method uses the a priori knowledge of the relation between the expectation of the number of empty slots and the number of tags. After measuring the number of empty slots in one ROUND, we estimate the number of tags which corresponds to the expectation of the number of empty slots nearest to the measured one. Simulation results show that the proposed method is superior to conventional methods in terms of the estimation accuracy and the computational complexity.

  • In this paper, a quad-band antenna for GSM/GPS/DCS/US-PCS handsets is proposed. The proposed antenna is low-profile for mounting in limited inner space of a handset. It consists of three open points with quarter wave length for multi-band operation. The ground plane below the patch is removed for wide-bandwidth without the variation of antenna size and the slot is added at the center of the patch for convenient matching in high frequency band. It provides a enough bandwidth within VSWR 3:1 at all bands. In addition, the measured peak gains are between -2.19 and 2.09 in anechoic chamber (10m$\times$6m$\times$4m).
