This paper presents a compact double resolution scheme for the optical angle sensor based on 1-dimensional CMOS photodiode pixel array. All the pixels are divided into the even pixel and the odd pixel groups. The winner take all circuit is provided for each group. The proposed interpolation scheme increases the resolution by 2 from the winner addresses and winner values. The interpolation scheme can be implemented without any additional pixels or winner take all circuits and require only a comparator and a XOR gate. The proposed pixel array chip that has 336 photodiode pixels with $5.6{\mu}m$ pitch was fabricated with $0.35{\mu}m$ CMOS process and was assembled with a $50{\mu}m$ slit to form an angle sensor. The measured resolution is $0.1{\circ}$ with the proposed interpolation. The chip consumes 35mW and provides 8k samples per second.
Real-time MTF measuring system for testing microlens arrays with a linear CCD array is developed. The spread function of slit image that is relayed and magnified by a microscopic object lens can be measured at several times in a second. The signal uniformity and MTF of CCD is also calibrated. The experimental result of micro lens arrays developed for contact image sensor is presented.sented.
Vanadium dioxide (VO2) is a well-known material that undergoes insulator-to-metal phase transition near room temperature. Since the conductivity of VO2 changes several orders of magnitude in the terahertz (THz) spectral range during the phase transition, VO2-based active metamaterials have been extensively studied. Experimentally, it is reported that the metal nanostructures on the VO2 thin film lowers the critical temperature significantly compared to the bare film. Here, we theoretically studied such early transition phenomena by developing an analytical model. Unlike experimental work that only measures transmission, we calculate the reflection and absorption and demonstrate that the role of absorption is quite different for bare and patterned samples; the absorption gradually increases for bare film during the phase transition, while an absorption peak is observed at the critical temperature for the metamaterials. In addition, we also discuss the gap width and VO2 thickness effects on the transition temperatures.

The Korea Astronomy and Space Science Institute and the Department of Astronomy at the University of Texas at Austin are developing a near infrared wide-band high resolution spectrograph, immersion grating infrared spectrometer (IGRINS). The compact white-pupil design of the instrument optics uses seven cryogenic mirrors, including three aspherical off-axis collimators and four flat fold mirrors. In this study, we introduce the optomechanical mount designs of three off-axis collimating mirrors and one flat slit-viewer fold mirror. Two of the off-axis collimators are serving as H and K-band pupil transfer mirrors, and are designed as system alignment compensators in combination with the H2RG focal plane array detectors in each channel. For this reason, the mount designs include tip-tilt and parallel translation adjustment mechanisms to properly perform the precision alignment function. This means that the off-axis mirrors' optomechanical mount designs are among the most sensitive tasks in all IGRINS system hardware. The other flat fold mirror is designed within its very limitedly allowed work space. This slit-viewer fold mirror is mounted with its own version of the six-point kinematic optics mount. The design work consists of a computer-aided 3D modeling and finite element analysis (FEA) technique to optimize the structural stability and the thermal behavior of the mount models. From the structural and thermal FEA studies, we conclude that the four IGRINS mirror mounts are well designed to meet all optical stability tolerances and system thermal requirements.

Mold-Flow 3 Die Stack CSP of Mold array packaging with different Gate types. As high density package option such as 3 or 4 die stacking technologies are developed, the major concerning points of mold related qualities such as incomplete mold, exposed wires and wire sweeping issues are increased because of its narrow space between die top and mold surface and higher wiring density. Full 3D rheokinetic simulation of Mold flow for 3 die stacking structure case was done with the rheological parameters acquired from Slit-Die rheometer and DSC of commercial EMC. The center gate showed severe void but corner gate showed relatively better void performance. But in case of wire sweeping related, the center gate type showed less wire sweeping than corner gate types. From the simulation results, corner gate types showed increased velocity, shear stress and mold pressure near the gate and final filling zone. The experimental Case study and the Mold flow simulation showed good agreement on the mold void and wire sweeping related prediction. Full 3D simulation methodologies with proper rheokinetic material characterization by thermal and rheological instruments enable the prediction of micro-scale mold filling behavior in the multi die stacking and other complicated packaging structures for the future application.

The fabrication process of fiber placement system of carbon fiber reinforced plastic (CFRP) requires real time process control and reliable inspection to ensure quality by preventing defects such as delamination and void. Therefore, novel non-contact inspection technique is required during the non-destructive evaluation in a fiber placement system. For the inspection of delamination in CFRP, various methods to receive laser-generated ultrasound were applied by using piezoelectric transducer, air-coupled transducer, wavelet transform and scanning laser ultrasonic technique. Laser-generated ultrasound was received with a conventional piezoelectric sensor in contacting manner. Then signal characteristics due to defects were analyzed to find a factor for detecting defects. Air-coupled transducer was used for reception of laser-generated guided wave using linear slit array in order to generate high frequency guided wave. And line scan technique was used to confirm the capability of on-line application. The high frequency component of laser-generated guided wave received with piezoelectric sensor disappeared after propagating through delamination region. Nevertheless, it was failed to receive high frequency guided wave in using air-coupled transducer. The first peak of the frequency spectrum under 100kHz in the delamination region is higher than in the sound region. By using this feature, the line scanned frequency data were acquired in fully non-contact generation and reception of ultrasound. This method was proved as useful technique for detecting delamination in CFRP.
Assessments of medical image was improved in accordance with development of medical imaging systems. One of them is edge method to determining MTF(Modulation Transfer Function) based on the Fujita method. Fujita was reduced sampling interval used slightly angulated slit to the direction of pixel array and composited finely sampled LSF to determine presampling MTF. In this study, we investigate the effect of sampling interval on the MTF under a digital imaging system by changing wire angle. The wire method was equivalent to the slit method except signal appearance. A Simens's MAMMOMAT Inspiration with $0.085{\times}0.085mm^2$ pixel size made by amorphous selenium was used and 96% accuracy on MTF in twice sampling interval compared with Fujita was obtained. However, three times of sampling interval showed 93% accuracy on 50% of MTF and 85% accuracy on 10% of MTF.

In this paper, a wideband microwave absorber for X-band(8~12 GHz) applications is proposed. The structure of the proposed absorber unit cell consists of a resonator with a slot and slit, a backing ground plate, and a Taconic RF-30(${\varepsilon}_r=3$, $tan{\delta}=0.0014$) substrate with a dimension of $8.5{\times}8.5{\times}0.5mm^3$. The proposed absorber has a dual resonance at 9.83 and 10.37 GHz. To demonstrate the operating principle of the proposed absorber structure at each resonance frequency, the simulated current distributions on the unit cell are analyzed. To verify the performance of the proposed absorber, a prototype absorber was fabricated with a planar array of $20{\times}20$ unit cells. The measured results exhibit two absorptivity peaks stronger than 99 % and full-width at half-maximum(FWHM) bandwidth of 1.1 GHz(9.51~10.61 GHz).

We propose a fabrication method for refractive lens by variable velocity moving mask lithography and slit pattern. Distribution of exposure dose should be controlled for the curved photoresist surface that works as a refractive surface. We analyze theoretically the distribution of exposure dose by change of moving velocity, moving direction of mask and the shape of mask pattern, and confirm for the curved surface experimentally. The lens could have sag height of a few of hundreds ${\mu}m$, by using thick photoresist or Deep RIE process.
