The use of shear studs usually placed in the form of mechanical shear connectors makes it possible to adopt composite steel-concrete structures in various structures, and steel-concrete plate composite (SCP) is being seriously considered for the installation of storage tanks exposed to harsh environments. However, manufacturing of SCP must be based on the application of existing design guidelines which require very close arrangement of shear studs. This means that the direct application of current design guidelines usually produces very conservative results and close arrangement of shear studs precludes pouring concrete within exterior steel faceplates. In this light, an improved guideline to determine the stud spacing should be introduced, and this paper proposes an improved ratio of the stud spacing to the thickness of steel plate on the basis of numerous parametric studies to evaluate the relative influence of the stud spacing on the stability of the SCP.

It is suggested that the curvature trajectory be used to estimate the real-time moving sound sources and efficiently the robot estimating the sound sources. Since the target points of the real-time moving sound sources change, the mobile robot continuously estimates the changed target points. In such a case, the robot experiences a slip phenomenon due to the abnormal velocity and the changes of the navigating state. By selecting an appropriate curvature and navigating the robot gradually by using it, it is possible to enable the robot to reach the target points without having much trouble. In order to recognize the sound sources in real time, three microphones need to be organized in a straight form. Also, by applying the cross-correlation algorithm to the TDOA base, the signals can be analyzed. By using the analyzed data, the locations of the sound sources can be recognized. Based on such findings, the sound sources can be estimated. Even if the mobile robot is navigated by selecting the gradual curvature based on the changed target points, there could be errors caused by the inertia and the centrifugal force related to the velocity. As a result, it is possible to control the velocity of both wheels of the robot through the velocity PID controller in order to compensate for the slip phenomenon and minimize the estimated errors. In order to examine whether the suggested curvature trajectory is appropriate for estimating the sound sources, two mobile robots are arranged to carry out an actual experiment. The first robot is moved by discharging the sound sources, while the second robot recognizes and estimates the locations of the discharged sound sources in real time.
Songgwang lead zinc mine is located in about 12km to the north-east of Jeonju City. Geology of the mine and its visinity is consisted of Jeonju series belonged to so-called Okcheon system, Seodaesan tuff formation, Silla series, and the quartz porphyry intruded into these formations. Jeonju series comprising 3 formations; that is, of Sadaeri, Sindong, and Girinbong. Jeonju series is generally distributed in southern part of the area, striking NNW, and diping NE $30^{\circ}$, or NW $30^{\circ}$. It is deformed to form synclinorium and anticlinorium plunging to the north with low angle. In the northern part of the area, Jeonju series was cut by Sinpeongri-fault of NEE direction near Sinpeongri. In the north side of the fault, it is overturned and shows NEE or NWW strikes and NW $60^{\circ}$ dips. At the west of Songgwangri, it is cut by 3 thrusts; the two are almost parallel each other, and the third oneis manifested by the fact that the lower black shale zone thrusted over the upper limestone. Songgwangri thrust, so named, is a post-mineral fault and its plane represents a premineral slip plane. Enrichment of are took place along the bedding plane or fissure parallel to it, as seen in adit No. 1 or No. 2 along the floor of the thrust, and along the sheared zone or the brecciated zone oblique to the plane near the thrust in crystalline limestone of Sindong formation as observed in the underground levels of inclined slope. Ore minerals are chiefly zincblende, galena, pyrrhotite, arsenopyrite, acompanied pyrite and chalcopyrite, and contain Au and Ag. In earlier stage of mineralization, the limestone was recrystalized, and sulphide minerals were enriched in the· permiable zone said above by pyrometasomatism, and in later stage the limestone was affected chloritization and sericitization. However hydrothermal replacement was weak, so that enrichment did not took place. It seems that minerallizing materials came up through the premineral slip plane and injected, and replaced the limestone in permiable zone said above with sulphide are minerals. Then Songgwangri thrust took place and, the lower black shale zone thrusted upon crystalline limestone.
Stainless steel-concrete composite beam has become an attractive structural form for offshore bridges and iconic high-rise buildings, owing to the superior corrosion resistance and excellent ductility of stainless steel material. In a composite beam, stainless steel shear connectors play an important role by establishing the interconnection between stainless steel beam and concrete slab. To enable the best use of high strength stainless steel shear connectors in composite beams, high strength concrete is recommended. To date, the application of stainless steel shear connectors in composite beams is still very limited due to the lack of research and proper design recommendations. In this paper, a total of seven pushout specimens were tested to investigate the load-slip behaviour of stainless steel shear connectors. A thorough discussion has been made on the differences between stainless steel bolted connectors and welded studs, in terms of the failure modes, load-slip behaviour and ultimate shear resistance. In parallel with the experimental programme, a finite element model was developed in ABAQUS to simulate the behaviour of stainless steel shear connectors, with which the effects of shear connector strength, concrete strength and embedded connector height to diameter ratio (h/d) were evaluated. The obtained experimental and numerical results were analysed and compared with existing codes of practice, including AS/NZS 2327, EN 1994-1-1 and ANSI/AISC 360-16. The comparison results indicated that the current codes need to be improved for the design of high strength stainless steel shear connectors. On this basis, modified design approaches were proposed to predict the shear capacity of stainless steel bolted connectors and welded studs in the composite beams.
The Ulsan Fault Zone (UFZ) of NNW trend is developed in the Gyeongsang Basin, the southeastern part of the Korean Peninsula, and the Quaternary faults have been found around the UFZ. The faults generally thrust the Bulguksa igneous rocks of Late Cretaceous-Early Tertiary upon the Quaternary deposits or are developed within the Quaternary deposits. They mainly show the reverse-slip sense of top-to-the west movement. The lines connecting the their outcrop sites show a zigzag-form which is similar to the orientation of their fault surfaces which show the various trends, like (W)NW, N-S, (E)NE, ENE trends. The E-W trending dextral strike(-slip) fault is found in the Quaternary deposits of the Singye-ri valley. It cuts the N-S trending reverse fault and are cut by the N-S trending thrust fault again. Two types of at least two times of Quaternary tectonic movements related to the formation of neotectonic fault zone in the Singye-ri valley are considered from such the geometric and kinematic characteristics of Quaternary faults. One is the reverse faulting of N-S trend by the E-W directed 1st compression and associated the strike-slip tear faulting of E-W trend, and then the thrust faulting of N-S trend by the E-W directed 2nd compression. The other is the reverse faulting of N-S trend, and then the dextral strike-slip faulting of E-W trend by the NW-SE directed compression, and then the thrust faulting of N-S trend. In this paper is suggested the development history of Singye-ri neotectonic fault zone on the basis of the various orientations of Quaternary fault surfaces around the UFZ, and the zigzag-form connecting line of their outcrop sites, and the compressive arc-shaped lineaments which convex to the west reported recently in the Yangsan Fault Zone.

Load and resistance factor design of mound breakwater against circular failure was developed in this study. To achieve the goal, uncertainties of parameters of soils, mound, and concrete cap were determined. Eight design cases of domestic mound breakwaters were collected and analyzed. Monte Carlo Simulation was implemented to determine the most critical slip surfaces of the design cases. Using the results of Monte Carlo Simulation, First-Order Reliability Method (FORM) was used to perform reliability analyses. Optimal load and resistance factors were calculated using the reliability analysis results and final load and resistance factors were proposed based on the calculated optimal factors.
A study of anisotropy of magnetic susceptibility (AMS) was undertaken on Cretaceous granitic, volcanic and sedimentary rocks in the eastern region of the Yangsan fault, southeast Korea. A total of 542 independently oriented core samples collected form 77 sites were studied. The main magnetic mineral in granitic rocks is magnetite according to the magnitude of bulk susceptibility, high-temperature susceptibility variation and isothermal remanent magnetization. Both of magnetic lineation and foliation with NE-SW trends are revealed in the granitic rocks, while volcanic rocks show scattered directions and sedimentary rocks show only load foliation parallel to the bedding planes. The following evidences read to the conclusion that both magnetic fabrics in the granitic rocks have been obtained by a tectonic stress before full solidification of the magma: (i) A fully hardened granitic rocks would get hardly any fabric, (ii) Difference of the magnetic fabric trends with those of the geological structures in the granitic rocks themselves formed by brittle deformation after solidification (e.g. patterns of small-faults and joints), (iii) Kinking of biotite and undulose extinction in quartz observed under the polarizing microscope, (iv) Discordance of magnetic fabrics in the granitic rocks with those in the surrounding rocks. The NE-SW trend of the magnetic foliations suggests a NW-SE compressive stress of nearly contemporaneous with the emplacement of the granitic rocks. The compression should have caused a sinistral strike-slip movement of the Yangsan Fault considering the trend of the latter. As the age of the granitic rocks in the study area is reported to be around $60\sim70$ Ma, it is concluded that the Yangsan fault did the sinistral strike-slip movement during this time (L. Cretaceous Maastrichtian - Cenozoic Paleocene).

In present study, the cylindrical susceptor by the slip casting method was designed to apply high-temperature induction heating by using $(Mo,W)Si_2$ ceramics. $MoSi_2$-based materials were synthesized by SHS (Self-propagating High-temperature Synthesis) method. The phase and crystal structure of $MoSi_2$-based materials were confirmed by XRD analysis. The shape of cylindrical mold was synthesized for various thickness by using the slip casting method. Finally, the susceptor for induction heating was processed by sintering and heat treatment to form $SiO_2$ layer, which was confirmed on the surface of susceptor by SEM/EDS analysis. To evaluate the heating performance of $(Mo,W)Si_2$ cylinder susceptor, we measured the maximum surface temperature and heating rate in comparison with the rod heating element under constantly applied power. The induction heating of the $(Mo,W)Si_2$ cylinder showed excellent heating performance, reaches the maximum temperature of $1457^{\circ}C$, with the average heating rate of $19^{\circ}C/s$ at 2 kW

The purpose of this study was to develop an efficient process in the design and construction of a 1:5 scale 10-story R.C. apartment building model for an earthquake simulation test. The reduction ratio of the specimen was determined by the size ($5m{\times}5m$) and pay load (600kN) of the available shaking table and the availability of model reinforcements. For efficiency and quality control of the reinforcement work, prefabrication was used. Construction was conducted in two steps, the wall in one step, and another step for the slab, because it was impossible to remove the formwork of a wall if the walls and slabs in a story were constructed in one step. The slip form construction method was used repetitively for walls. The formwork of a wall was made with veneer and acryl plate on each side, so it was possible to check the quality of the concrete placing. To construct this model, it took roughly six months with five full-time research assistants, for a total of 602 man days of labor in construction.
Reliability analyses of sixteen domestic design cases of open cell caisson breakwaters against circular sliding failure were conducted in this study. For the reliability analyses, uncertainties of parameters of soils, mound, and concrete cap were assessed. Bishop simplified method was used to obtain load and resistance of open cell caisson breakwater for randomly generated open cell caisson breakwater. Sufficient number of Monte Carlo simulations were conducted for randomly generated open cell caisson breakwaters, and statistical analysis was conducted on loads and resistances collected from the large number of Monte Carlo simulations. Probability of failure produced from Monte Carlo simulation has a nonconvergence issue for very low probability of failure; therefore, First-Order Reliability Method (FORM) was conducted using the statistical characteristics of loads and resistances of open cell caisson breakwaters. In addition, effects of safety factor, uncertainties of load and resistance, and correlation between load and resistance on reliability of open cell caisson breakwaters against circular sliding failure were examined.
