Melting and Refining of Cu Powder Scraped from Waste PCB with Fe2O3 (Fe2O3 첨가에 의한 폐PCB로부터 긁어낸 Cu분말의 용융 및 정제)

  • In this study, $Fe_2O_3$ was added as a flux to decrease melting temperature and refine during melting of Cu powder from scraped surface of the waste PCB (printed circuit board). The effect of $Fe_2O_3$ ratio to Cu powder and temperature on the recovery of Cu and content of impurities were investigated. It was found that the recovery of Cu was increased with increasing addition ratio of $Fe_2O_3$ and reaction temperature. The contents of O, Si and Fe in Cu phase were also decreased with increasing addition ratio of $Fe_2O_3$ and temperature. The formation of fayalite ($2FeO{\cdot}SiO_2$) and iron oxides phases in the slag was confirmed by XRD analysis after reaction with $Fe_2O_3$. Therefore, it was considered that the decrease of melting temperature and viscosity of slag by formation of fayalite slag contributed remarkably to the Cu recovery.

  • Current iron and steelmaking operation was re-evaluated on the basis of slag engineering technology to optimize slag operations. In blast furnace process, increase in the basicity of slags (C/S) could obtain progressed fluidity and hot metal quality. COREX process would be stabilized in view of slag fluidity and hot metal quality by reducing input content of $SiO_2$and $A1_2$$O_3$In STS-AOD process, addition of small amount of lime could improve refining capacity of the slag; also calcium aluminate flux could be taken into account as a potential substitute for fluorspar, without degradation of operation efficiency and steel quality.

  • 야금학적 방법을 통한 태양전지용 실리콘 제조를 위하여 아크로(Arc furnace)에서 제조된 용융 상태의 금속급 실리콘을 슬래그와 직접 반응시켜 불순물을 제거하는 공정에 관한 연구를 수행하였다. 이를 위해 아크로와 고주파 유도용해로(High-frequency induction furnace)를 이용하여 금속급 실리콘을 제조와 정련 특성 실험을 수행하였다. 본 연구에서 금속급 실리콘을 제조하기 위한 장비로 150kW급-DC 아크로와 300kW급-AC 아크로를 사용하였다. 원재료로 규석, 코크스(Cokes), 숯, 그리고 우드칩(Wood chip)을 실험 비율에 맞춰 아크로 내부에 장입하고, 이를 용융환원 방법을 통해 반응을 시켰다. 이때 생산된 금속급 실리콘의 순도는 약 99.2~99.8% 이었으며, 원재료의 순도, 장입 비율 및 아크로 운전 특성에 따라 편차가 있다. 아크로에서 생산된 금속급 실리콘의 경우 인(phosphorus), 붕소(boron)를 다량 함유하고 있고, 이를 제거하기 위하여 50kW급 고주파 유도용해로 장비를 사용하여 슬래그 정련 실험을 수행하였다. 슬래그 정련시 사용한 성분은 SiO2, CaO 그리고 CaF2 이며, 금속급 실리콘과 슬래그의 질량비 및 반응 시간에 따른 실리콘 불순물 특성을 평가하였다. 실험결과 인과 붕소는 각각 1 ppm 이하, 5 ppm 이하 였으며, 칼슘을 제외한 대부분의 금속 불순물의 경우 0.1~0.2% 임을 확인하였다.

A Comparison on the Effect of Stabilization Methods for Rice Paddies contaminated by Heavy Metal (중금속 오염 농경지 토양의 안정화 처리공법 효과 비교)

  • In order to investigate the field application of selected stabilization methods(cover soil method, surface and total interval treatment of embankment method) on rice paddies contaminated by heavy metals, column test was carried out with heavy metal-contaminated soils collected from rice paddies around abandoned mine site. Columns were made by acrylic and filled with untreated soil, treated soil mixed with amendments(lime stone and steel refining slag) and uncontaminated cover soil according to the design report. Distilled water was discharged into the columns with the velocity of 1 pore volume/day. During test, pH, EC, and heavy metal concentration were measured in the regular term. The column test result showed that the selected stabilization methods were effective remediation method to stabilize heavy metals in paddy soils, but it was also expected that application of surface treatment methods was required the careful observation on pH variation due to the lowest increment.

  • In modern times, the environment preservation is global tendency and self social awareness is arise. Measures to the environment preservation and pollution is going on study. One measure is recycling and reuse of by product and it is already developed in some advanced country. There is 7 hundred thousand tons of copper slag production from copper refining process in domestic. The purpose of this study is reusing copper slag -by product which produced L cooperation in domestic-as fine aggregate for producing high strength concrete and investigating the fundamental characteristics.

  • Slopping deteriorates the productivity and the stability of operation in BOF refining process, and hence POSCO has developed methods to predict and prevent slopping. Specific equipment was developed to measure the change of the reacting force to the oxygen-blowing lance against oxygen jet and the force was gathered and analyzed with the flow rate of oxygen and the height of lance. From this study, it was found that the reacting force is strongly correlated to the slag foam height. Currently, the modeling of the relation of the slag foaming level and the vertically acted force to lance is being approached for predicting the slopping.

  • To figure out the material characteristics about slag and raw materials which are founded in iron product sites in Seosan area, we used XRF, EDS to analysis chemical compositions. Also we observe the microstructure by microscope and SEM. To identify the mineral component, XRD analysis was used and to assume the provenance of the raw material, lead isotope ratio analysis was used. From the results, we figure out that slags are non-ferrous created when metal was refined. Also, main tissue of slags were Fayalite, Galena, Magnetite, and raw materials were identified as mineral of Galena, Anglesite, Pyrite etc. From the result about lead isotope ratio analysis, we found out most samples are classified as the Western Gyeonggi massif in South Korea. Especially three of raw materials and slag samples which collected in the Seosan Doseongri was presumed to be the provenance. We figure out that slags we analyzed were made in non-ferrous metal smelting process and especially that were more likely to smelt from Seosan Doseongri. If various slags in this area are analysed by someone, It will contribute understanding non-ferrous metal refining process as well as metal refining which are composed.

  • Processing and smelting of copper containing sulphide concentrates result in the accumulation of impurities into various process streams. All primary copper smelters and refineries around the world produce significant amounts of slag, dust, sludge, residues and others, which contain copper and precious metals. The recovery of these valuable metals is essential to the overall economics of the smelting process. Physical, chemical and mineralogical characterization of particular slag and Cottrell dusts from primary smelters and $Dor\'{e}$ furnace (TBRC) slag and Pressure Leached Anode slimes from a copper refinery have been carried out to understand the basic behind the recovery processes. Various process options have been evaluated and adapted for the treatment of slag from different smelting furnaces and Cottrell dusts as well as the intermediate products from copper refineries. Besides the hydro- or pyro-metallurgical treatments, the above mentioned physical separation options such as magnetic, gravity separation, flotation and precipitation flotation processes have been successfully identified and adapted as the possible process options to produce a Cu-rich or precious metal-rich concentrates for in-house recycling and other valued by-product for further treatment. The results of laboratory, pilot plant and production operations are presented, and incorporation of several alternative flowsheet is discussed in this paper.

Distribution Behavior of Bi and Pb Between Molten PbO-SiO2 Slag and Bi (용융(熔融) PbO-SiO2계(系) 슬래그와 Bi 사이의 Bi와 Pb의 분배거동(分配擧動))

  • The equilibrium distribution of bismuth and lead between molten PbO-$SiO_2$ slag and bismuth phase was studied in the temperature range of $775^{\circ}C$ to $850^{\circ}C$ in a MgO crucible. The oxygen partial pressure of atmosphere was controlled by $P_{CO2}/P_{CO}$ ratio. The value of $(%PbO)_{slag}/[%Pb]_{metal}$ increased with increasing $SiO_2$ content of slag, and the value of $(%Bi_2O_3)_{slag}/[%Bi]_{metal}$ decreased with increasing $SiO_2$ content of slag. The concentration of Pb in metal increased with increasing temperature. These experimental results agreed well with the thermodynamic prediction.

Flexural Behavior of Reinforced Concrete Columns Using Electric Arc Furnace Oxidizing Slag Aggregates (전기로 산화슬래그 골재를 사용한 철근콘크리트 기둥의 휨 거동)

  • This study is performed to evaluate the flexural performance of reinforced concrete columns with electric arc furnace oxidizing slag aggregates. Electric arc furnace slag is a by-product obtained from the process of refining scrap steel. The electric arc furnace slag can be used as a concrete aggregate, because it mainly consists of CaO and $SiO_2$, similar to natural rocks and minerals. Three rectangular columns with various types of aggregate were cast to test in flexure. All of the test specimens had a cross-section of $250{\times}250$mm and a height of 1,500 mm in test region. The specimens were designed to apply reversed cyclic antisymmetric moment and constant axial force. The experimental results showed that the specimens with electronic arc furnace oxidizing slag aggregates had superior flexural performance than the specimen with natural aggregates.
