  • Building skins are expanding even beyond theirfunctions as a simple boundary between the exterior and interior and into the realm of linguistic functions thanks to the development of media art. LED has been used as material on outer walls following the advancement of building materials, so the outerskins of large buildings are evolving into a messenger of language capable of communication. In big cities, buildings send out video images to enable communication between people and architecture, which plays a huge role in determining the identity of a building beyond simple advertising. Such media fa?ade technologies can be understood based on the concept of outerskin change, which refers to the idea that animals change the colors or textures of their skins to show their various states. In addition, various message delivery functions in human clothes should be included in such a discussion. We need to research on the possibilities of seeing media facades for their information delivery function and expanding them into information delivery between buildings as well as just between buildings and people.

  • A nonlinear vibrational analysis of sandwich curved panels having multi-scale face sheets has been performed in this article based on differential quadrature method (DQM). All mechanical properties of multi-scale skins have been established in the context of three-dimensional Mori-Tanaka scheme for which the influences of glass fibers and random carbon nanotubes (CNTs) have been taken into account. The governing equations for sandwich the panel have been developed based upon thin shell formulation in which geometry nonlinearities have been taken into account. Next, DQ approach has been applied to solve the governing equations for determining the relationships of frequencies with deflections for curved panels. It will be demonstrated that the relationships of frequencies with deflections are dependent on the changing of CNT weight fractions, fibers alignment, fibers volume, panel radius and skin thickness.

  • Nonlinear forced vibration behaviors of sandwich plates having graphene platelets (GPL) based face sheets have been researched in this article. Possessing low weight together with low stiffness, square honeycomb cores are mostly constructed by aluminum. Herein, the square shaped core has been fortified by two skins of GPL-based type in such a way that the skins have uniform and linearly graded GPL dispersions. The square shaped core has the effective material specification according to the relative density concept. The whole formulation has been represented based upon classical plate theory (CPT) while harmonic balance approach is applied for solving the problem and plotting the amplitude-frequency curves. The forced vibration behaviors of such plates are influenced by square-shaped core and the relative density, skin's height and GPL fortification.

Screening Biological Activities of Grape Seed and Skin Extracts of Campbell Early (Vitis labruscana B.)

  • This study was conducted to determine biological activities, such as lipid peroxidation inhibition, cytotoxicity, sun blocker, inhibition of tyrosinase, and antioxidative effect, of ethanol extracts, and of solvent fractionated ethanol extracts obtained from grape seeds and skins. The strongest lipid oxidative inhibition of 66.9% and 67.6% was observed respectively, in the presence of 20 $\mu\textrm{g}$/$m\ell$ of both ethanol extract and water fraction of grape seeds. Overall, the ethanol extracts and their fractions of grape seeds exhibited stronger lipid oxidative inhibition than that of skin extracts. On the other hand, the ethanol extracts of grape skins showed stronger cytotoxicity than that of seeds on MCF-7, Hep3B, and A549 cancer cell lines. However, the water fraction of seed ethanol extracts showed the strongest cytotoxic effect of 76.52% and 67.01% on MCF-7 and Hep3B, respectively among their fractions. Ethanol seed extracts obtained at 3$0^{\circ}C$ had the strongest absorbance both at UVA region (350 nm) and UVB region (308 nm) and the chloroform fraction showed the strongest absorbance at W region and butanol fraction at UVA region among their tractions, respectively. In the meantime, the ethanol extracts obtained at 3$0^{\circ}C$ and butanol fraction showed the strongest tyrosinase inhibitory effect of 39.4% and 37.6%, respectively. This study shows that ethanol extracts and their fractions of grape seeds and skins could be potential good materials for functional food and cosmetic products.

Discrimination of Astaxanthin Fed Laying Hens and Their Peroxidated Carcasses by Electronic Nose

  • The applicability of electronic nose was tested to detect lipid peroxidation in chickens and to measure antioxidant effect of astaxanthin in chicken carcasses. Two sources of astaxanthin were fed to 62-wk-old spent laying hens to improve meat quality: natural astaxanthin (NA) from the red yeast, Phaffia rhodozyma, and synthetic astaxanthin (SA) from chemical synthesis. One hundred forty four ISA Brown laying hens were used in a 6-wk feeding trial. Three treatments consisted of the basal diet (control), SA (100 mg astaxanthin/kg basal diet) and NA (50 mg astaxanthin/kg basal diet). The astaxanthin levels of SA and NA were set to give a similar degree of skin pigmentation. After 6-wk feeding of astaxanthin, the skins from NA and SA were discriminated from the control by electronic nose. However, electronic nose failed to distinguish between SA and NA skins after 6-wk feeding. The astaxanthin level differences between skins of SA and NA were not remarkable during the 6-wk trial. The lipid peroxide formation in skin was significantly decreased by SA but not by NA. The antioxidation effect of SA was detected by electronic nose because SA skin was discriminated from others. NA was a better pigmentation agent than SA, but the reverse was true in antioxidation. Electronic nose is applicable for detecting astaxanthin in chicken, and meat off-flavor caused by lipid peroxidation during storage.

Effect of Vehicles and Enhancers on the in vitro Skin Penetration of Aspalatone and Its Enzymatic Degradation Across Rat Skins

  • The feasibility of skin penetration was studied for aspalatone (AM, acetylsalicylic acid maltol ester), a novel antithrombotic agent. In this studys hairless mouse dorsal skins were used as a model to select composition of vehicle and AM. Based on measurements of solubility and partition coefficient, the concentration of PC that showed the highest flux for AM across the hairless mouse skin was found to be 40%. The cumulative amount permeated at 48 h, however, appear inadequate, even when the PC concentration was employed. To identify a suitable absorption enhancer and its optimal concentration for AM, a number of absorption enhancers and a variety of concentration were screened for the increase in transdermal flux of AM. Amongst these, linoleic acid (LOA) at the concentration of 5% was found to have the largest enhancement factor (i.e., 132). However, a further increase in AM flux was not found in the fatty acid concentration greater than 5%, indicating the enhancement effect is in a bell-shaped currie. In a study of the effect of AM concentration on the permeation, there was no difference in the permeation rate between 0.5 and 1% for AM, below its saturated concentration. At the donor concentration of 2%, over the saturated condition, the flux of AM was markedly increased. A considerable degradation of AM was found during permeation studies, and the extent was correlated with protein concentrations in the epidermal and serosal extracts, and skin homogenates. In rat dorsal skins, the protein concentration decreased in the rank order of skin homogenate > serosal extract > epidermal extract. Estimated first order degradation rate constants were $6.15{\pm}0.14,{\;}0.57{\pm}0.02{\;}and{\;}0.011{\pm}{\;}0.004{\;}h^{-1}$ for skin homogenate, serosal extract and epidermal extract, respectively. Therefore, it appeared that AM was hydrolyzed to some extent into salicylmaltol by esterases in the dermal and subcutaneous tissues of skin. taken together, our data indicated that transdermal delivery of AM is feasible when the combination of PC and LOA is used as a vehicle. However, since AM is not metabolically stable, acceptable degradation inhibitors may be nervessary to fully realize the transdermal delivery of the drug.

포도 '거봉' 품종의 변색기 야간 온도 처리가 과피 착색에 미치는 영향 (Effects of Night Temperature at Veraison on Berry Skin Coloration of 'Kyoho' Grapevines)

  • 변색기의 수준별 야간 고온이 포도 '거봉'의 과피색 발현에 미치는 영향을 분석하기 위해 시기별 과피색 변화, 과피 내 안토시아닌 및 식물호르몬 ABA와 GA 함량을 분석하였다. 변색기 20일 동안의 야간 24, 27℃ 처리에 의해 '거봉' 포도의 과피색 불량이 나타났으며, 야간 온도가 높을수록 과피색 발현이 더욱 억제되었다. 수확기 과실 품질을 분석한 결과, 야간 21℃ 처리구에 비해 24, 27℃ 처리구의 과방중, 과립중, 당도가 감소하였다. 야간 21℃ 처리구의 과피에서 만개 후 50일부터 안토시아닌이 축적되기 시작했고, 개별 안토시아닌 중 Mal과 함께 총 안토시아닌 함량이 수확기까지 지속적으로 증가하였다. 야간 21℃ 처리구를 기준으로 과피의 총 안토시아닌이 야간 24, 27℃ 처리에 의해 감소하였으며, 개별 안토시아닌 중에서는 Peo를 제외한 나머지 안토시아닌의 감소 경향이 뚜렷하였다. 식물호르몬 ABA는 야간 21℃ 처리구의 과피에서 변색기에 최대값을 보이고 다시 수확기까지 감소하였는데, 이러한 ABA 함량의 증가는 야간 24, 27℃ 처리에 의해 감소하는 경향이었다. GA는 변색기 과피에서 급격하게 감소하여 수확기까지 낮은 함량으로 유지되었는데, 야간 기온이 낮을수록 빠르게 감소하였다. 야간 21℃ 처리구 과피에서 ABA/GA 값은 만개 후 60일에 최대값을 보이고 다시 수확기까지 감소하였지만, 이 증가 양상이 야간 고온에 의해 감소하며 과피 안토시아닌 축적과 동일한 경향을 보이며 변화하였다. 따라서 변색기 야간의 24℃ 이상의 고온은 '거봉' 포도의 과피색 발현을 억제하며, 이는 식물호르몬 ABA, GA의 비율 변화, 과실 당도 감소로 인한 총 안토시아닌 함량 및 조성 변화 때문으로 판단되었다.

거봉 포도종의 에탄올 추출물 및 분획물에 대한 생리활성 효능 (Biological Activities of Ethanol Extracts and Fractions of Black Olympia Grape(Vitis Labruscana L.))

  • 본 연구는 포도 거봉종의 종자와 과피 추출물의 지질과산화 억제 효과와 암세포들에 대한 세포 독성을 살펴보았다. 추출 온도를 달리하여 추출한 종자와 과피의 에탄올 추출물과 추출물에 대한 분획물들을 이용하여 지질과산화물의 억제효과를 측정한 결과, 종자 및 과피 에탄올 추출물 모두 온도변화에 따른 영향은 없는 것으로 나타났으며, 추출물의 농도가 증가할수록 지질과산화물의 감소효과가 증가하였다. 종자 추출물의 경우, 3$0^{\circ}C$에서 추출한 에탄올추출물이 20 $\mu\textrm{g}$/$m\ell$ 농도에서 60.1%, 분획물 중에서는 ethyl acetate 분획물이 71.2%의 지질과산화를 억제하였다. 과피 에탄올 추출물의 경우, 5$0^{\circ}C$에서 추출한 추출물이 20 $\mu\textrm{g}$/$m\ell$ 농도에서 48.1%, 분획물 중에서는 hexane 분획물이 44.4%의 지질과산화를 각각 억제하였다. 암세포 생육 억제 효과에서는 모든 암세포(MCF-7, Hep3B 및 A549)에서 포도 종자 및 과피 에탄올 추출물 및 분획물들이 1.00 $\mu\textrm{g}$/ML 농도에서 대부분 50% 이상의 생육 억제율을 보였으며, 암세포에 대한 생육 억제와 정상 세포에 대한 selectivity에서는 종자 에탄올 추출물과 과피 에탄을 추출물간의 유의적인 차이는 나타나지 않았다. 본 연구 결과, 거봉포도종자 및 과피의 에탄올 추출물들과 각 분획물은 지질과산화 억제 효과와 암세포들에 세포 독성이 캠벨종의 포도종자 및 과피에 비하여 낮은 활성을 나타내었다.

포도껍질의 제거 또는 첨가를 통한 국내산 포도주의 품질개선 (Quality Improvement of Wines Made from Domestic Grapes by the Elimination or Addition of Grape Skins)

  • 국내산 적포도인 Campbell, MBA, Sheridan 세 품종의 포도를 각각 4가지 방식으로 나누어 처리를 하여 발효를 하였다. 첫 번째 시료는 포도를 제경하고 파쇄한 후 상법의 방법으로 발효시킨 적포도주(conventional), 두 번째는 포도껍질을 제거해서 발효시킨 포도주(skin removed), 세 번째는 상법의 적포도주 제조방식에 제거된 껍질을 추가로 첨가하여 발효시킨 포도주(skin added), 네 번째는 포도를 착즙하여 수율이 50% 되도록 착즙한 포도즙을 발효시킨 포도주(juice) 등 4가지 방식으로 포도주를 제조하였다. 발효과정 중 당도와 알코올 변화는 포도품종이나 처리방식에 따라 별 차이가 없었으나 색도에 있어서는 MBA가 가장 짙었고 Campbell, Sheridan 순으로 여려졌다. 처리 방법에 의해서는 포도의 품종에 관계없이 껍질을 제거하여 만든 포도주(skin removed)의 백색도(L값)가 가장 높았고 착즙액으로 제조한 포도주(juice), 상법에 의해 제조한 포도주(conventional), 껍질을 첨가하여 만든 포도주(skin added) 순으로 낮아졌고 폴리페놀 함량은 껍질을 제거해서 만든 포도주(skin removed)가 가장 낮았고 껍질을 첨가하여 만든 포도주(skin added)는 상법에 의해 제조한 포도주(conventional)에 비하여 30%이상 높게 나타났다. 관능검사 결과 dry-type(Campbell, MBA)에서는 껍질을 첨가해서 만든 포도주의 기호도가 상법에 의해 제조한 포도주에 비하여 높게 나타났으며 sweet-type(Sheridan)에서는 껍질을 제거해서 만든 포도주의 기호도가 크게 향상되었다.

젤라틴의 원료로서 원양산 어류 및 오징어 껍질의 검색 (Screening for the Raw Material of Gelatin from the Skins of some Pelagic Fishes and Squid)

  • 수산가공 부산물인 껍질을 효율적으로 이용하기 위하여 식용 젤라틴의 원료로 빨강오징어 껍질, 각시가자미 껍질, 홍대구 껍질, 대구 껍질 및 명태 껍질 등과 같은 껍질을 검색하였다. 콜라겐함량은 홍대구껍질이 $28.4\%$로 가장 높았고, 빨강오징어 껍질이 $11.1\%$로 가장 낮았으며, 기타 어류껍질의 경우 $23.5\~24.5\%$로 거의 차이가 없었다. 가용성 콜라겐조성은 어류껍질의 경우 $68.9\~84.8\%$, 빨강오징어 껍질의 경우 $44.3\%$이었다. 수산물껍질로부터 추출한 콜라겐의 아미노산조성은 가용성 및 불용성 획분간의 차이는 없었다. 수산물껍질 콜라겐은 모두 단량체인 $\alpha\;chain$과 이량체인 $\beta\;chain$으로 구성되어 있었고, 화살 오징어 껍질 콜라겐 및 홍대구 껍질 콜라겐을 제외한 나머지 3종의 껍질 콜라겐의 단량체는 hetero분자로 구성되어 있었다. 열변성 온도는 각시가자미 껌질 콜라겐이 기타 수산물 껍질 콜라겐보다 높았고, 또한 이들 수산물 껍질로부터 추출한 젤라틴의 물리적 특성도 콜라겐의 열 변성온도의 경향과 유사하였다.
