사료의 지질 및 파프리카 함량이 비단잉어(Cyprinus carpio var. koi) 홍백 치어의 성장 및 체색에 미치는 영향 (Effects of Dietary Lipid and Paprika Levels on Growth and Skin Pigmentation of Red- and White-colored Fancy Carp Cyprinus carpio var. koi)

  • A feeding trial was conducted to investigate effect of three paprika levels (0%, 5% and 10%) with two lipid levels (4% and 10%) in diets on growth performance and skin coloration of red- and white-colored fancy carp, Cyprinus carpio var. koi. Two replicate groups (an average body weight of $4.3{\pm}0.2g$) of fish fed one of eight experimental diets for 8 weeks. Survival, weight gain and feed efficiency of the fish were not significantly affected by both dietary paprika and lipid levels (P>0.05). After 8 weeks feeding period, the values of $a^*$, $L^*$ and $b^*$ of fish skin were significantly changed by dietary paprika level (P<0.05) but not lipid level. The $a^*$ value of fish fed the diets containing paprika was higher than that of fish fed control diet (P<0.05). Additional inclusion of 50-100 ppm canthaxanthin in diets containing 5% and 10% paprika did not improve $a^*$ value of fish skin. Based on the results of this study, it can be concluded that dietary inclusion of 5% paprika powder could increase the redness of red- and white-colored fancy carp fingerling.

  • This study investigated the effect of dietary paprika on the skin coloration of red- and white-colored fancy carp Cyprinus carpio var. koi, in two age groups: 0-age ($7.4{\pm}0.1$ g/fish) and 1-age ($164{\pm}2.9$ g/fish). Three isonitrogenous diets were formulated to contain 0, 5, and 10% paprika (Con, P5 and P10, respectively). Three replicate groups of 0-age fish and two replicate groups of 1-age fish were fed one of the experimental diets for 9 weeks. Survival, weight gain, and feed efficiency were not significantly affected by the dietary paprika level (P>0.05) at both fish sizes. The dietary paprika level influenced the redness ($a^*$), lightness ($L^*$), and yellowness ($b^*$) of fish skin. The $L^*$ value of the skin of the fish fed the P5 and P10 diets tended to decrease with feeding period. The skin $a^*$ value of 0-age fish (small) fed the diets containing paprika increased significantly with feeding period and was higher than that of fish fed the control diet after 3 weeks (P<0.05). However, the $a^*$ value of 1-age fish (large) fed the diets containing paprika tended to increase slightly with feeding period. At the end of the experiment, the skin total carotenoid level was increased significantly in fish of both sizes fed the P5 and P10 diets compared to fish fed the control diet. Therefore, 5% paprika powder in the diet increases the skin redness of red- and white-colored fancy carp, especially in small fish.

A Study on the Skin Irritation Toxicity Test of Processed Sulfur in New Zealand White Rabbit

  • Objectives: This study was performed to evaluate the skin irritation toxicity of processed sulfur. Methods: All experiments were conducted at Medvill (Korea), an institution authorized to perform non-clinical studies, under the Good Laboratory Practice (GLP) regulations. In order to investigate skin irritation toxicity of processed sulfur, we divided the back of six rabbits into two control sites and two test sites. One of each of the two control and test sites was then designated abraded sites and intact sites. In test sites, 0.5 g of processed sulfur was applied to the back of the rabbit for 24 hours, and in control sites, 0.5 g of sterile distilled water was applied in the same way. We observed and evaluated mortality, weight, general symptoms, and skin irritation toxicity. This study was conducted with the approval of the Animal Ethics Committee (Approval number: IAC2020-1549). Results: In all experiments, no dead animals were observed. In all cases, skin coloration was observed at 24 hours after processed sulfur administration. This coloration lasted up to 48 hours and is believed to be the effect of the administration of test substances. Weight measurement indicated that weight was lost 72 hours after administration in three cases, but this is considered an accidental weight change. Normal weight gain was observed in the remaining subjects. In all animals, no skin irritation toxicity was observed, and the primary irritation index (P.I.I) was calculated as 0.0 according to Draize's evaluation method. Conclusion: The above findings suggest that it is relatively safe to apply a processed sulfur to the skin. Further research on this topic is needed to provide more specific evidence.

포도 '거봉' 품종의 변색기 야간 온도 처리가 과피 착색에 미치는 영향 (Effects of Night Temperature at Veraison on Berry Skin Coloration of 'Kyoho' Grapevines)

  • 변색기의 수준별 야간 고온이 포도 '거봉'의 과피색 발현에 미치는 영향을 분석하기 위해 시기별 과피색 변화, 과피 내 안토시아닌 및 식물호르몬 ABA와 GA 함량을 분석하였다. 변색기 20일 동안의 야간 24, 27℃ 처리에 의해 '거봉' 포도의 과피색 불량이 나타났으며, 야간 온도가 높을수록 과피색 발현이 더욱 억제되었다. 수확기 과실 품질을 분석한 결과, 야간 21℃ 처리구에 비해 24, 27℃ 처리구의 과방중, 과립중, 당도가 감소하였다. 야간 21℃ 처리구의 과피에서 만개 후 50일부터 안토시아닌이 축적되기 시작했고, 개별 안토시아닌 중 Mal과 함께 총 안토시아닌 함량이 수확기까지 지속적으로 증가하였다. 야간 21℃ 처리구를 기준으로 과피의 총 안토시아닌이 야간 24, 27℃ 처리에 의해 감소하였으며, 개별 안토시아닌 중에서는 Peo를 제외한 나머지 안토시아닌의 감소 경향이 뚜렷하였다. 식물호르몬 ABA는 야간 21℃ 처리구의 과피에서 변색기에 최대값을 보이고 다시 수확기까지 감소하였는데, 이러한 ABA 함량의 증가는 야간 24, 27℃ 처리에 의해 감소하는 경향이었다. GA는 변색기 과피에서 급격하게 감소하여 수확기까지 낮은 함량으로 유지되었는데, 야간 기온이 낮을수록 빠르게 감소하였다. 야간 21℃ 처리구 과피에서 ABA/GA 값은 만개 후 60일에 최대값을 보이고 다시 수확기까지 감소하였지만, 이 증가 양상이 야간 고온에 의해 감소하며 과피 안토시아닌 축적과 동일한 경향을 보이며 변화하였다. 따라서 변색기 야간의 24℃ 이상의 고온은 '거봉' 포도의 과피색 발현을 억제하며, 이는 식물호르몬 ABA, GA의 비율 변화, 과실 당도 감소로 인한 총 안토시아닌 함량 및 조성 변화 때문으로 판단되었다.

  • This study was conducted to investigate the growth and skin color of red- and white-colored fancy carp Cyprinus carpio var. koi juvenile reared at different water temperatures (21, 24, 27, and $30^{\circ}C$) for eight weeks. Two experimental diets were prepared to contain 10% Arthrospira platensis or 10% Arthrospira pacifica powder. After the feeding trial, survival was 100% in all group. Weight gain of fish reared at 24, 27, and $30^{\circ}C$ was higher than $21^{\circ}C$ group. Feed efficiency was not affected by water temperature and dietary Arthrospira sp. Daily feed intake tended to increase with water temperature. The $a^*$ value of skin coloration was affected by Arthrospira sp., but not by water temperature. Fish fed the diet containing A. pacifica powder reared at $27^{\circ}C$ had the highest $a^*$ value among the groups. Total carotenoids were highest in fish fed the diet containing A. pacifica powder reared at $21^{\circ}C$. Based on the results of this study, we conclude that 24-$30^{\circ}C$ water temperature was the optimal range for growth, and dietary inclusion of A. pacifica improved the skin redness of red- and white-colored fancy carp reared at $27^{\circ}C$.

  • Polyester, polyester/cotton blend, nylon and cotton fabrics were ultraviolet cutting finished with padding method or exhaustion method using several UV absorbers. The transmittance of ultraviolet ray in the textiles can be greatly depressed by the processing and it is expected that human skin can be kept safe from sun-burn or damages by ultraviolet ray.

PVA/PVAc 입자의 계면 전기적 성질 (Interfacial Electric Property of PVA/PVAc Particles)

  • Poly (vinyl acetate) (PVAc) was used as a precursor of PVA/PVAc (skin/core) bicomponent. In order to investigate the possibility of PVA particles for electrical applications, PVA/PVAc particles were produced with an emulsifier, SDS (Sodium Dodecyl Sulfate) and an initiator, V-50 (2,2'-azobis(2-amidinopropane)digydrochloride). In this study, we investigated the electrical property of PVA/PVAc (skin/core) particles. The hydroxyl group of the PVA/PVAc (skin./core) was confirmed by the analysis of PVAc and PVA/PVAc (skin/core) using Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FT-IR). The zeta-potential of the PVA/PVAc (skin/core) and PVAc has similarity; however, charge control agent (CCA) treated PVA/PVAc (skin/core) particles has lower zeta-potential than untreated PVA/PVAc particles. The zeta-potential (negative values) of the PVA/PVAc (skin/core) were enhanced in proportion to the increased concentration of CCA.

봉지종류 및 괘대시기가 '원황' 및 '화산' 배 과실의 수확기 품질에 미치는 영향 (Effects of fruit bags and bagging time on fruit quality indices at harvest time in 'Wonhwang' and 'Whasan' pears)

  • 충남 천안지역에 재배되고 있는 국내신육성 조중생종 배 '원황' 및 '화산'을 공시하여 외지의 색깔을 달리한 3종의 이중봉지를 만개 후 35-65일까지 10일 간격으로 괘대한 후 수확기에 과실을 수확하여 색택 및 과실품질을 비교하였다. 봉지간 광차단율을 조사한 결과, 회색외지를 사용한 과실의 광차단율이 유의하게 높아 광투과율이 0.46%로 황색외지의 43.7% 및 신문지의 40.0%에 비해 높은 것으로 나타났다. 두 품종 모두 괘대시기가 늦을수록 적색도($a^*$)이 증가하는 경향을 보였으나 괘대 시기가 만개 후 65일로 늦은 경우에는 과피가 지나치게 붉은색으로 착색되거나 착색의 균일도가 떨어져 외관이 심하게 떨어졌다. 과실의 수확기 가용성고형물, 산함량 등 품질요인은 봉지종류 및 괘대시기에 따라 큰 차이를 보이지 않았으나 회색외지 처리과실의 수확기 경도편차가 가장 적게 조사되었다. 본 실험결과, 회색외지를 사용한 경우 과실품질요인의 저하 없이 '원황'과 '화산' 배 과실의 과피색 발현에 유리한 결과를 보였다.

한복배색의 조화감에 대한 한.미 여대생의 지각 반응 연구(제3보) -유채색과 무채색을 중심으로- (A Study in the Perception of the Harmony of Coloration in Traditional Korean Dress of Korean and American Students (Part III) - On the Chromatic and Achromatic colors -)

  • The purpose of this research is to understand the harmony of chromatic and achromatic colors of the traditional Korean dress. The subjects were women's college students in Korea and America. Chromatic colon, red, yellow, and green color, were chosen for the color of the Korean jacket, and achromatic colors were chosen for the color of the skirt, and then the colors' chroma were controlled and value of color was changed. In addition, the three colors of the jacket were combined with four kinds of the colors' tone. Then, the students of both countries assessed about the harmony for 48 colorations which were variously incorporated with the tones of skirt and jacket. The results of research can be summarized as follows. When red jackets were combined with skirts of achromatic colors, students of both counties showed the different views in the range of harmony and disharmony for colorations of white(N9) skin and vivid jacket, and white(N9) skirt and dark jacket, and black(N2) skirt and light jacket, and black(N2) skirt and dull jacket. In the tone of yellow jackets and achromatic skirts, students of both counties showed similar responses in that a light yellow jacket was well matched with dark grey(N4) and black(N2) skirt. While Korean students generally evaluated that coloration was well harmonized when low value color was arranged below, American students thought, that the tones of a harmonized skirt were different, according to the jacket's tones. When green jackets were combined with stills of achromatic colors, colorations that showed their different views of both countries were a white(N9) skirt combined with vivid, light, dull jackets, and a light grey(N7) skirt and dull jacket, and a dark grey(N4) skirt and dark jacket. Among 48 stimuli of coloration on the chromatic and achromatic colors, Korean students evaluated 16sets and American students judged 28 sets as harmonized colors. Therefore, it came to the conclusion that Korean students had the sense of harmonious coloration of more narrow range than American students.

생물자원 폐기물을 활용한 친환경 가죽염색(I): 양파껍질을 이용한 장어가죽 천연염색 (Eco-friendly Leather Dyeing using Biomass Wastes(I): Natural Dyeing of Eel Skin using Onion Peels)

  • This study aimed to investigate the efficacy of eco-friendly leather dyeing by utilizing food wastes. Natural dyeing of eel skin was attempted using onion peels which have been used commonly for natural dyeing of textile fabrics. Eel skin is a by-product from fishery processing and is used mainly for making leather products. The colorant was extracted from onion peels in boiling water, concentrated, and freeze-dried. Dyeing of eel skin was carried out to study the effects of dyeing conditions, mordant type and mordanting method on dye uptake, color change, drape stiffness and colorfastness. The optimum dyeing conditions were $60^{\circ}C$ of dyeing temperature, 60min of dyeing time at 1:100($H_2O$ 90%: ethanol 10%) of bath ratio. The onion peels produced yellowish color on eel skin. The pre-mordanting was effective than the post-mordanting. As a result of the drape stiffness measurement, the Fe-mordanted sample was somewhat stiffer comparing to other mordanted samples. The light fastness of the non-mordant dye was excellent in 3-4 grade. Drycleaning fastness and rubbing fastness showed excellent results, but fastness was not significantly improved by mordanting.
