Sketch effect generating technique based on real painting analysis (실제 작품 분석에 기반한 스케치 효과 생성 기법)

  • Various digital contents generation techniques are widely utilized by upgrading PC and mobile device. In this paper, we propose sketch effect simulation based on real drawing pieces. For this, we analyze Vincent Van Gogh's drawing pieces; and then construct DB by extracting sketch stroke pattern of each object. From this database, we select stroke pattern at each object, and then, apply it. Our algorithm can generate similar effect look like real drawing piece. It may be utilized various contents such as children's painting education book.

  • This paper presents an image processing algorithm which gives an sketch effect on the real image taken by CCD camera. The essence of the technique is the expression of shading by the line touch. Several line patterns are developed to emulate pencil drawings, fusains, Indian ink paintings. This algorithm is expected to be used for computer portraits, character development, and souvenirs.

The Image and Preference Comparison between 'Opened Landscape' and 'Filtered Landscape' - Focused on With and Without Parallax Effect - ('열린경관'과 '가려진경관'의 이미지와 선호도 비교 - 패럴랙스(Parallax) 효과 유무를 중심으로 -)

  • The purpose of this study is not only to compare between 'Opened Landscape' and 'Filtered Landscape' image and preference but also to suggests a guide line of planting design for progressive realization. For this, the image structures of photo-sketch simulation for parallax landscape have been investigated by Semantic Differential scale(S.D. scale) and the Factor analysis. The results could be summarized as follows. The results of S.D. scale values for landscape through parallax were greater than non-parallax landscape. The scenes through parallax were better preferred to direct view. Thus the results of photo-sketch simulation test support the expected hypothesis that the visual environment of complexity and variety is closely correlated with the parallax effect and monotonous or non-parallax environment, and parallax effect on close view more bigger than the distant view. Factors covering the spatial image of parallax landscape were found to be seven and Total values were 60.35 %. The most important factors determining the parallax effect were Factors I 'depth of space' and VI 'expectation of space and interest'. An outstanding view must be handled properly to be preserved or accentuated. In this sense, the parallax spatial beauty with tree could be improved through the visual aspects of plan arrangements and the progressive realization appeared to be one effective design technique for landscape planning and design.

  • This study purposed more effective drawing process in practical lecture with students. Researched materials were constitution to a semester of presentation technique curriculum major in industrial design for freshman course. Students exert to entrance examination of university to get a good point in practical test. There did not have creative action in minds. But, design required concept of good idea sketch and creative technique. At study process should make correction a reform to sketch skill by repeat practicing with misunderstand drawing or imitative idea sketch. According to the practical test result & response revised lecture schedule. And then, I had survey to questionnaire paper for feedback by trial result. Besides, I was study to effect use the drawing materials for example, colored pencil, marker pastel. I think important to first use to way understanding materials and basic training. Design education be driven to new creative sketch skill. Design is the creative process to which brings ideas to reality.

Sketch Style Effect using Spatial Filter (공간 필터를 이용한 스케치 스타일 효과)

  • In this paper, we propose a method that generates a sketch likely to be drawn by a human from a real image(a computer generated image or a photo image). The method can create human friendly images with pen strokes by using image processing techniques such as spatial filters. In order to create the human friendly image, first, we made the tiny unnecessary contours. Second, we made the second image by inverting the first image and performed a processing similar to the first processing. Last, we subtracted the second image from the first image and added a hatch to it. The sequence of processing enables us to generate a human friendly image with line shading, likely to be sketched by water pen compared to the past method(pencil hatching and sketch effects). Also the proposed method can represent the sketch effects more effectively with applying different hatch to the shading area of a input image.

  • In recent years, space planning ability using 3D sketch software is required in the working field of interior design. However, vocational high school do not respond appropriately to changes in the industry, because the class of vocational high school consists of hands-on practical classes and 2D CAD based classes. There is a shortage of 3D sketch software-based instruction programs that can improve students' spatial planning skills. Therefore, this study is to develop instruction program using 3D sketch software for 'Planning for Residential Space' unit of NCS-based on interior design subject and to find out the effect on students' academic achievement by applying to vocational high school class. The 3d sketch software based instructional program developed in this study was developed through four stages of preparation, development, implementation and evaluation according to the PDIE model process. The experimental design model used nonequivalent group posttest-only design in this study. Experiments were conducted on vocational high school students in construction and 9 hours of interior design subjects were applied. After the experiments, students were tested for academic achievement in the cognitive, affective, and psychomotor areas. As a result, the instruction program using the 3d sketch program developed in this study was found to be more effective in improving students' academic achievement than existing manual instruction program in both cognitive, affective, and psychomotor areas.

  • Interactive broadcasting service using wired/wireless Internet return channel has strong ripple effect. It allows the audiences to participate actively to the program they are watching, and communicating. This paper develops an authoring tool that makes an object-formed interactive advertisement from extracted areas of the advertising object the user specified in TV programs. In the authoring tool, the advertisement producer specifies the target object subjectively and the selected object keeps moving here and there repeatedly. Therefore, it is hard to make an object-formed interactive advertisement with existing tools. This paper suggests sketch-based interface technique for extracting advertising objects, and also provide evaluation functions to correct any sketch error. This paper also converts the area of object into MPEG-4 BIFS codes for authoring the object-formed interactive advertisement.

A Technique of Applying Embedded Sensors to Intuitive Adjustment of Image Filtering Effect in Smart Phone (스마트폰에서 이미지 필터링 효과의 직관적 조정을 위한 내장센서의 적용 기법)

  • In this paper, we propose a user interface technique based on embedded sensors applying to apps in smart phone. Especially, we implement avata generation application using image filtering technique for photo image in smart phone. In the application, The embedded sensors are used as intuitive user interface to adjust the image filtering effect for making user satisfied effect in real time after the system produced the image filtering effect for avatar. This technique provides not a simple typed method of parameter values adjustment but a new intuitively emotional adjustment method in image filtering applications. The proposed technique can use sound values from embedded mike sensor for adjusting key values of sketch filter effect if the smart phone user produces sound. Similiarly the proposed technique can use coordinate values from embedded acceleration sensor for adjusting masking values of oil painting filter effect and use brightness values from embedded light sensor for adjusting masking values of sharp filter effect. Finally, we implement image filtering application and evaluate efficiency and effectiveness for the proposed technique.

Knowledge Spillover Effects on Agglomerations of Environment-related Industries

  • The number of environment-related technologies has increased remarkably over the past two decades, as has the public's interest in effective resource use and ways to reduce the effects of global warming. Industries that are based on environment-related technologies are thus growing rapidly. Previous studies revealed that externalities derived from the population concentration in urban areas positively affect agglomerations of high-tech industries. Such externalities have been named the "knowledge spillover effect". The purposes of the present paper are to (1) give a thumbnail sketch of the locations of environment-related industries around the world, using the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development environment-related patent statistics, and (2) explicate the effects of the Marshall-Arrow-Romer (MAR) and Jacobs externalities, which result from population concentrations in urban areas, on the agglomeration of environment-related industries in Sweden. The analysis revealed that environment-related industries are located chiefly in urban areas across the globe, and that only the MAR externalities influenced positively on the agglomeration of these industries in Sweden.

Investigation of the shock structural formation of the supersonic nozzle jet with longitudinal variation of coaxial pipe location

  • A visualization study of shock formation of the supersonic jet nozzle using a Shadowgraph Method (SM) was carried out to investigate the effect of the longitudinal variation of coaxial pipe end tip position inside the supersonic nozzle. The experiment was performed for the Mach number range from 1.1 to 1.2 at nozzle exit. The well known shock cell structure was shown with the pipe end located deep inside the nozzle for the studied Mach number. With the pipe end approaches nozzle exit, it was found that the shock cell structure disappeared and turned into complex formation. In order to understand the mechanism of the shock structural change, computational simulation was carried out using the Navier-Stokes solver, FLUENT. Topological sketch was added with an aid of the visualization and the numerical simulation.
