  • In the treatment of dentofacial deformities, analysis of skeletal pattern, with evaluation of plaster dental cast, is essential procedure. This study was based on 20 patients with dentofacial deformity who were admitted to the department of oral and maxillofacial surgery Kngnam sacred heart Hospital during the period of Jan 1988 through Aug 1989. We studied serial cephalometric radiogarphs of patients (pre-op, postop immediately, postop 6 moth). The obtained results indicates the good resistance of rigid fixation against relapse in orthognathic surgery.

골격성 제III급 부정교합 환자에 대한 상악골 전방견인 장치의 치료효과 (TREATMENT EFFECT OF PROTRACTION HEAD GEAR ON SKELETAL CLASS III III MALOCCLUSION)

  • Before 1970, mandibular overgrowth was known as main cause of skeletal Class III malocclusion in growing children ; however, recent study reports that many skeletal Class III malocclusion patients also show maxillary deficiency. Since 1972, when Delaire re-accommodated Protraction Head Gear (P.H.G.), many researchers have reported that skeletal Class III discrepancies could be corrected through use of P.H.G., which induces anterior movement of maxilla and change in mandibular growth pattern into infero-posterior direction ; nevertheless, it is very difficult to predict resultant changes of orofacial region. The purpose of this study was to find out what treatment effect P.H.G. has on different study samples. Author divided 51 skeletal Class III malocclusion patients with maxillary deficiency who were treated with P.H.G. into different study groups depending on sex, treatment beginning age, intraoral appliance, and facial growth pattern. By doing so, following results were obtained. 1. Treatment beginning age and Sex Four age groups (5.8 to 8 year-old, 8 to 10 year-old, 10 to 12 year-old, 12 to 14 year-old) were compared, and no significant difference was observed. (p<0.05) There was no significant difference between the sex groups, either. (p<0.05). 2. Intraoral appliance Treatment effects of study groups that used R.P.E.(mean age of 10.2) and Labio-Lingual appliance(mean age of 8.9) were compared. There was no significant difference depending on the type of intraoral appliance that was used. (p<0.05) 3. Facial growth pattern 1) Amounts of SNB and ANB corrections were smaller in clockwise growth pattern group than those in normal or counterclockwise growth pattern group. (p<0.05) 2) Amounts of increase in Wits appraisal and mandibular plane angle were greater in counterclockwise growth pattern group than those in normal or clockwise growth pattern group. (p<0.05) 3)Amounts of increase in articular angle were greater in counter lockwise growth pattern group than those in clockwise growth pattern group. (p<0.05)

Temporal Pattern of cAMP Concentrations and α-Actin mRNA Expression in Skeletal Muscle of Cimaterol-Fed Rats

  • Twenty four female Sprague-Dawley rats weighing about 190 g were used to examine changes in muscle cAMP concentrations and steady-state levels of skeletal muscle ${\alpha}$-actin mRNA during chronic administration of cimaterol, a ${\beta}$-adrenergic agonist. Cimaterol was mixed in a powdered rat diet at 10 mg/kg diet. At 3 and 21 days after the start of treatment, skeletal muscle and heart samples were collected for the measurement of cAMP concentrations and skeletal muscle ${\alpha}$-actin mRNA levels. Cimaterol increased (p < 0.01) body weight gain gradually during the first seven days of the trial period, but not thereafter. Most skeletal muscle weights and the ratio of muscle weight to body weight were increased (p < 0.05) by cimaterol treatment both at 3 and 21 days. Heart weight was also increased (p < 0.05) by cimaterol treatment at 3 and 21 days, but the ratio of heart weight to body weight was increased (p < 0.05) only at 3 day. Cimaterol decreased (p < 0.05) cAMP concentration of gastrocnemius muscle at both 3 and 21 days after treatment. However, cimaterol tended (p = 0.07) to increase cAMP concentration at 3 days in the heart. Cimaterol tended (p = 0.08) to increase the steady-state level of ${\alpha}$-actin mRNA by 60% in gastrocnemius muscle at 3 days but had no effect at 21 days. The results indicate that the pattern of hypertrophic response to chronic dietary administration of cimaterol is different between cardiac and skeletal muscle. In skeletal muscles it appears that the hypertrophy induced by cimaterol is partly due to stimulated myofibrillar protein synthesis at a pre-translational level.

Assessment of pharyngeal airway in Korean adolescents according to skeletal pattern, sex, and cervical vertebral maturation: A cross-sectional CBCT study

  • Objective: To investigate airway volumes using cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT) by skeletal patterns, sex, and cervical vertebral maturation (CVM) stages in Korean adolescents. Methods: The sample consisted of pretreatment CBCT and cephalograms of 95 adolescents (aged 12-19) obtained out of 1,611 patients examined for orthodontic treatment from 2018 to 2020 in Kyungpook National University Dental Hospital. The samples were classified into two sex groups; three skeletal pattern groups, four chronological age groups and four CVM stages. Nasopharyngeal volumes (NPV), oropharyngeal volumes (OPV), total pharyngeal airway volume (TAV) and minimum cross-sectional area (MCA) measurements were taken from the CBCT. Multiple linear regression analyses to find out which one of the independent variables are good predictors for airway variables. Significant factors were analyzed by two-way multivariate analysis of variance (MANOVA) then multiple comparisons were analyzed using a t-test, and Fisher least significant difference. Results: Age, sex, CVM, and Sella-Nasion-B point have significant influence on airway variable. Males and females showed similar patterns of change in chronological age groups 1-3; however, males had larger NPV, OPV, and MCA at CVM in group 4. According to CVM stages, males had larger OPV, TAV, and MCA at CVM stage 6 (p-value: 0.019, 0.021, 0.015, respectively) and no sex differences at CVM stages 3, 4, and 5. Conclusions: Skeletal patterns have an effect on airway volume. Sex differences were found in CVM 6.

군집분석으로 도출한 식사패턴별 에너지 섭취량과 골격근육량의 연관성 분석 : 2008 ~ 2010년 국민건강영양조사 자료를 활용하여 (Association between energy intake and skeletal muscle mass according to dietary patterns derived by cluster analysis: data from the 2008 ~ 2010 Korea National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey)

  • 본 연구는 에너지 섭취 급원에 따라 골격근육량과 에너지 섭취량 간의 연관성이 달라지는지 알아보기 위해 수행되었다. 본 연구는 2008 ~ 2010년도 국민건강영양조사 자료를 이용하여 30세 이상 한국 성인 7,922명을 대상으로 각 식품의 에너지섭취비율을 기반으로 식사패턴을 분류하고 각 식사패턴 군집 내에서 대상자들의 골격근육량과 에너지 섭취량 간의 연관성을 분석하였다. 대상자의 22가지 식품군의 에너지 섭취량을 기준으로 군집분석을 실시한 결과 남성과 여성 모두에서 '밀가루와 유지류 (Flour, Animal fat)', '흰 쌀 (White rice)', '건강혼합식 (Healthy mixed diet)' 3가지 식사패턴을 도출하였다. 그 중 '흰 쌀' 식사패턴에서 남성 (p < 0.0001)과 여성 (p < 0.0195) 모두 에너지 섭취량과 골격근육량의 연관성이 있었으며, 나머지 식사패턴에서는 근육량과 에너지 섭취량 간의 관련성이 통계적으로 유의하지 않았다. 본 연구의 결과에서 30대 이상 한국 성인들의 골격근육량의 변화와 에너지 섭취량 간에는 유의한 양적 연관성이 있으나 대상자가 주로 섭취하는 식사 형태에 따라 에너지 섭취와 골격근육량의 연관성이 다른 것을 알 수 있었다. 본 연구의 결과에 근거하여, 골격근육량과 연관된 에너지 섭취량의 변화 [14]는 쌀밥 위주의 식사를 하는 한국 성인에 특이적인 결과임을 추정할 수 있다. 이는 에너지 섭취량의 증가 없이도 군집에 속한 식품의 영양소 균형이 골격근육량 유지에 도움을 주는 다른 식사패턴 (예, 건강혼합식)과는 달리 쌀밥위주의 식사가 전형적인 한국인의 경우 전체적인 식사량의 확보도 골격근육 유지에 중요함을 제시하는 결과이며 쌀밥 위주의 식사를 하는 대상자들의 체중감량식단이나 근감소증 비율이 상대적으로 높은 노인들의 식사 지침에 응용할 수 있을 것으로 기대된다.

  • Purpose : The purpose of this study was carried out to review for the importance of breathing pattern training for the spinal stabilization. Methods : This is a literature study with books and thesis. Results : Breathing with normal respiratory mechanics has a potent role in neuro-musculo-skeletal system. The evaluation of respiratory mechanics should be a routine part of every physical examination. And respiratory mechanics must be intact for both normal posture and spinal stabilization to be possible. Conclusion : The spinal stabilization exercise with the breathing pattern training is more efficient therapeutic exercise program for the patient with neuro-musculo-skeletal system disorder.

골격성 II급 성인 부정교합자에서 혀와 두개안면골격 및 악간공간과의 상관관계에 관한 연구 (A study on correlations between tongue with skeletal pattern and intermaxillary space in Class II malocclusion adult patients)

  • 골격성 II급 부정교합자 중 성장이 완료되었다고 생각되는 만 18세 이상의 여자 37명, 만 20세 이상의 남자 23명을 선정하여 정상 성인의 안면비를 기준으로 hyperdivergent group(n=30)과 hypodivergent group(n=30)으로 나누어 두부방사선규격사진의 투사도를 작성하였으며 두개안면골격 및 혀의 크기, 높이 그리고 자세를 나타내는 항목을 계측하였고, 두 군간의 차에 대한 유의성 검정 및 혀와 두개안면골격 그리고 악간공간 사이의 상관관계를 조사하여 다음과 같은 결론을 얻었다. 1. 두 군의 혀와 악간공간의 계측항목 비교시 악간공간에 대한 혀의 면적비(TS/IS)는 hyperdivergent group에서 더 크게 나타났으며, PIH(posterior intermaxillary height)와 IS(intermaxillary space)는 hypodivergent group에서 더 크게 나타났으나 혀의 높이와 자세를 나타내는 항목에서는 두 군간에 유의할 만한 차이가 없었다. 2. 혀와 두개안면골격의 상관관계 비교시 두 군 모두에서 혀의 면적(TS), 길이(TGL) 그리고 높이(TH)를 나타내는 계측항목이 전안모고경 (AFH)과 가장 높은 상관관계를 나타냈으며, 또한 hypodivergent group에서는 후안모고경(PFH)과도 높은 상관성을 보였다(p<0.01). 3. 혀와 악간공간의 상관관계 비교시 두 군 모두 혀에 관한 대부분의 항목(H-P제외)이 악간공간(IS)과 가장 높은 상관성을 보였으며, 혀의 높이 (TGH)와 면적 (TS)을 나타내는 항목은 악간공간의 AIH 및 PIH와 높은 상관성을 보였다(p<0.01).

  • In this paper, we present a comprehensive study for the development of quadruped walking robot. To understand the walking posture of a tetrapod animal, we begin with a careful observation on the skeletal system of tertapod animals. From taking a side view of their skeletal system, it is noted that their fore limbs and hind limbs perform characteristic roles during walking. Moreover, the widths of footprints and energy efficiency in walking have a close relationship through taking a front view of their walking posture. According to these observations, we present a control method where the kinematical solutions are not necessary because we develop a new rhythmic gait pattern for the quadruped walking robot. Though the proposed control method and rhythmic pattern are simple, they can provide the suitable motion planning for the robot since the resultant movement is based on the animal's movements. The validity of the proposed idea is demonstrated through dynamic simulations.
