  • H-beam used for stiffening the upper structure of ocean plant is cut in the various shapes. The cutting process of the H-beam is done manually and requires a long time and high cost. Therefore, automation of H-beam cutting is an important task. This research aims to develop a 3-D simulator to build the automatic H-beam cutting system and to determine the optimal cutting method. The automatic H-beam cutting system composes of 6 robots including 2 cutting robots hang to a crane and 1 conveyer. The appropriate system layout for covering the various sizes and types of H-beam was tested and determined using the simulator. The H-beam cutting system uses a hybrid type of plasma and gas cutting because of special cutting shapes of H-beam. The cutting area of each cutting method should be properly divided according to the size and shape of H-beam to shorten the total cutting time. Additionally the collision between a robot and a robot or a robot and H-beam should be avoided. The optimal cutting method for the shortest cutting time without the collision could be found for the various cutting conditions by use of the simulator. 2 simulation samples shows the availability of the simulator to find the optimal cutting method.

  • Bare-chip packaging becomes more popular along with the miniaturization of IT components. In this paper, we have studied flip-chip process, and developed automated bonding system. Among the several bonding method, NCP bonding is chosen and batch-type equipment is manufactured. The dual optics and vision system aligns the chip with the substrate. The bonding head equipped with temperature and force controllers bonds the chip. The system can be easily modified for other bonding methods such as ACF In bonding process, the bonding forte and temperature are known as the most dominant bonding parameters. A parametric study is performed for these two parameters. For the test sample, we used standard flip-chip test kit which consists of FR4 boards and dummy flip-chips. The bonding test was performed fur two types of flip-chips with different chip size and lead pitch. The bonding temperatures are chosen between $25^{\circ}C\;to\;300^{\circ}C$. The bonding forces are chosen between 5N and 300N. The bonding strength is checked using bonding force tester. After the bonding force test, the samples are examined by microscope to determine the failure mode. The relations between the bonding strength and the bonding parameters are analyzed and compared with bonding models. Finally, the most suitable bonding condition is suggested in terms of temperature and force.

  • A mathematical model of discharge mechanism of metal-hydride (MH) electrode was presented. A computer simulation program was developed in order to predict the variation of electrode potential and the distribution of hydrogen concentration within MH particles during discharge. By investigating the effects of the discharge current density, the size of MH particle, the diffusivity of hydrogen in MH particle, and the porosity of the electrode, it was found that these factors exerted a collective effect on the discharge characteristic of the electrode and the utilization of hydrogen in the MH particle. It was confirmed that and optimization of design factors of an MH electrode is necessary in order to execute a high-rate discharge and to improve the utilization of hydrogen in MH particle.

  • Double Patching is a multicasting technique for a VoD system which has been proposed to provide a true VoD service by making clients share a long patching stream as well as a regular stream For subsequent short patching streams, the technique always makes the long patching stream have extra data that will be played back during a double period of a patching window. In this paper, we propose a technique, using the start time of the latest short patching stream, optimizes Double Patching by deleting the useless data included in the long patching stream when the patching window of the long patching stream closes. The mean requirement for the server's bandwidth to provide the true VoD service is used as a performance metric, and the effect of the request inter-arrival time, the size of the client's local buffer and the video length on the mean bandwidth requirement is evaluated. Performance evaluation result shows that the proposed technique optimizes Double Patching in all cases.

  • A specialized anthropomorphic robot manipulator which can be attached to the housemaid robot McBot II, is developed In this paper. This built-in type manipulator consists of both arms with 3 DOF (Degree of Freedom) each and both hands with 3 DOF each. The robotic arm is optimally designed to satisfy both the minimum mechanical size and the maximum workspace. Minimum mass and length are required for the built-in cooperated-arms system. But that makes the workspace so small. This paper proposes optimal design method to overcome the problem by using neck joint to move the arms horizontally forward/backward and waist joint to move them vertically up/down. The robotic hand, which has two fingers and a thumb, is also optimally designed in task-based concept. Finally, the good performance of the developed manipulator is confirmed through live test of tasks.

  • The Convolutional Neural Network(CNN) can be divided into two stages: feature extraction and classification. The hyperparameters such as kernel size, number of channels, and stride in the feature extraction step affect the overall performance of CNN as well as determining the structure of CNN. In this paper, we propose a method to optimize the hyperparameter in CNN feature extraction stage using Parameter-Setting-Free Harmony Search (PSF-HS) algorithm. After setting the overall structure of CNN, hyperparameter was set as a variable and the hyperparameter was optimized by applying PSF-HS algorithm. The simulation was conducted using MATLAB, and CNN learned and tested using mnist data. We update the parameters for a total of 500 times, and it is confirmed that the structure with the highest accuracy among the CNN structures obtained by the proposed method classifies the mnist data with an accuracy of 99.28%.

  • Recently light emitting diodes (LEDs) have been expected as the new generation light sources because of their advantages such as small size, long lifetime and energy-saving. GaN, as a wide band gap material, is widely used as a material of LEDs and GaN nanorods are the one of the most widely investigated nanostructure which has advantages for the light extraction of LEDs and increasing the active area by making the cylindrical core-shell structure. Lately GaN nanorods are fabricated by various techniques, such as selective area growth, vapor-liquid-solid (VLS) technique. But these techniques have some disadvantages. Selective area growth technique is too complicated and expensive to grow the rods. And in the case of VLS technique, GaN nanorods are not vertically aligned well and the metal catalyst may act as the impurity. So we just tried to grow the GaN nanorods on Si substrate without catalyst to get the vertically well aligned nanorods without impurity. First we deposited the AlN buffer layer on Si substrate which shows more vertical growth mode than sapphire substrate. After the buffer growth, we flew trimethylgallium (TMGa) as the III group source and ammonia as the V group source. And during the GaN growth, we kept the ammonia flow stable and periodically changed the flow rate of TMGa to change the growth mode of the nanorods. Finally, as the optimization, we changed the various growth conditions such as the growth temperature, the working pressure, V/III ratio and the doping level. And we are still in the process to reduce the diameter of the nanorods and to extend the length of the nanorods simultaneously. In this study, we focused on the shape changing of GaN nanorods with different growth conditions. So we confirmed the shape of the nanorods by scanning electron microscope (SEM) and carried out the Photoluminescence (PL) measurement and x-ray diffraction (XRD) to examine the crystal quality difference between samples. Detailed results will be discussed.

  • Field emission displays (FED) are currently being explored as a potential flat panel display technology. Specifically, the optimization pf efficient bin emitting phosphors in the $Y_2O_3-Nb_2O_5$ system and influence of particle size of phosphors on the luminescent properties was studied. Under 254 nm excitation, Bi activated $YNbO_4$ phosphors showed a strong and relatively narrow blue omission band, peaking at about 420-450 nm. Especially 0.4 wt% Bi doped yttrium phosphors showed the maximum emission intensity which is almost three times as much as that of $Y_2SiO_5:Ce$ phosphors. Finally, Ce doped $Y_2SiO_5$ phosphors exhibited strong and broad blue emission band, centered at 390-420 nm and maximum emission intensity at the doping concentration of 0.02-0.03 mol.

  • This study was performed the real motion and DEM simulation of ball motion using three different types of grinding media with different size and materials in media formation for optimization of process conditions in a traditional ball mill (media ball mill). In the simulation, the rotational speed of the mill, the material of the medium, the velocity of the medium, and the coefficient of friction between the media and the wall of pot were fixed into the actual experimental conditions. The motion of various kinds of grinding media was quantitatively measured by setting the grinding zone defined in the present study on the photographs taken and the snapshot images analyzed in the simulation. In addition, we observed the quantitatively measured value and the changed morphology of the sample and examined the correlation. Therefore, it is suggested to optimize the grinding media which has the greatest influence on the grinding zone under specific experimental conditions.

  • Background: The development of a vaccine for Jembrana disease is needed to prevent losses in Indonesia's Bali cattle industry. A DNA vaccine model (pEGFP-C1-tat) that requires a functional delivery system will be developed. Polylactic-co-glycolic acid (PLGA) may have potential as a delivery system for the vaccine model. Objectives: This study aims to evaluate the in vitro potential of PLGA as a delivery system for pEGFP-C1-tat. Methods: Consensus and codon optimization for the tat gene was completed using a bioinformatic method, and the product was inserted into a pEGFP-C1 vector. Cloning of the pEGFP-C1-tat was successfully performed, and polymerase chain reaction (PCR) and restriction analysis confirmed DNA isolation. PLGA-pEGFP-C1-tat solutions were prepared for encapsulated formulation testing, physicochemical characterization, stability testing with DNase I, and cytotoxicity testing. The PLGA-pEGFP-C1-tat solutions were transfected in HeLa cells, and gene expression was observed by fluorescent microscopy and real-time PCR. Results: The successful acquisition of transformant bacteria was confirmed by PCR. The PLGA:DNA:polyvinyl alcohol ratio formulation with optimal encapsulation was 4%:0.5%:2%, physicochemical characterization of PLGA revealed a polydispersity index value of 0.246, a particle size of 925 nm, and a zeta potential value of -2.31 mV. PLGA succeeded in protecting pEGFP-C1-tat from enzymatic degradation, and the percentage viability from the cytotoxicity test of PLGA-pEGFP-C1-tat was 98.03%. The PLGA-pEGFP-C1-tat demonstrated luminescence of the EGFP-tat fusion protein and mRNA transcription was detected. Conclusions: PLGA has good potential as a delivery system for pEGFP-C1-tat.
