  • Fifteen lightweight concrete mixes were tested to evaluate the effect of maximum size of coarse aggregate and the replacement level of natural sand on the various properties of fresh lightweight concrete. The different properties, such as water absorption against the elapsed time, pore size distribution and micro-structure of lightweight aggregates used, influencing on the workability of fresh concrete were also measured. Test results showed that the initial slump of lightweight concrete decreased with the increase of the replacement level of natural sand. The slump of all-lightweight concrete sharply decreased by around 80% of the initial slump after 30~60 minutes. The air content and bleeding rate of lightweight concrete were significantly affected by the replacement level of natural sand as well as the maximum size of coarse aggregates. Empirical equations recommended in ACI 211 and Korea concrete standard specifications underestimated the air content of the lightweight concrete, indicating that the underestimation increases with the decrease of the replacement level of natural sand. In addition, equations to predict the air content and bleeding rate of lightweight concrete were proposed based on the test results.

  • The feeding habits of the marbled flounder Pleuronectes yokohamae were studied using 395 specimens collected from January to December, 2010, in the coastal waters off Tongyeong, Korea. The size of P. yokohamae ranged from 10.5 to 38.8 cm in standard length (SL). P. yokohamae is a bottom-feeding carnivore that consumes mainly bivalves, amphipods and polychaetes. Its diet also includes small quantities nemertians, anthozoan, isopods, copepods, tanaidacean, shrimps, crabs and ophiuroids. Our feeding-strategy graphical method reveled that P. yokohamae was a generalized feeder, with a wide niche width. P. yokohamae mainly consumed bivalves, amphipods and polychaetes, and did not show significant ontogenetic changes in feeding habit without size over 22 cm. Prey size did not increase significantly as growing fish size.

  • This study analyzes the body characteristics of high school boys according to 3 different body types in order to improve the fit of upper garments. First, among the lateral body types, the straight body type was selected from the SizeKorea 3D scanned data and 2D measurement data. Second, high school boys (classified as straight lateral body type) were grouped into type B, A, and Y drop groups. The percentages of type B, type A, type Y are 17.8%, 48.1%, 32.1% respectively. The characteristics of the body types were analyzed. While the bust circumference were the same among the three body types (chest width, back width, back across shoulder, and bust width did not show a significant difference); however, waist and hip measurements showed a significant difference among the three body types. Third, the height of the high school boys ranged between 165cm and 180cm and the bust circumference between 85cm and 97cm. For the bust size categories, type B and type Y are distributed similarly; however, type A is distributed in the smaller bust size categories.

  • In this paper, we investigate the quality difference of SiC crystals grown by a conventional physical vapor transport method using various SiC powders. While the growth rate was revealed to be dependent upon the particle size of the SiC powder, the growth rate of SiC bulk crystals grown using SiC powder with a smaller particle size (20 nm) was definitely higher than those using lager particle sizes with $0.1-0.2\;{\mu}m$ and $1-10\;{\mu}m$, respectively. All grown 2 inch SiC single crystals were proven to be the polytype of 6H-SiC and the carrier concentration levels of about $10^{17}\;cm^3$ were determined from Hall measurements. It was revealed that the particle size and process method of SiC powder played an important role in obtaining a good quality, high growth rate, and to reduce growth temperature.

  • Geopolymer materials are attractive as inorganic binders due to their superior mechanical and eco-friendly properties. In the current study, geopolymer-based cement was prepared using aluminosilicate minerals from fly-ash with KOH as an alkaline-activator and $Na_2SiO_3$ as liquid glass. Then, calcium carbonate powder from a clam shell was mixed with the geopolymer and the mixture was coated on a concrete surface to provide points of attachment for environmental organisms to grow on the geopolymers. We investigated the effect of the shell powder grain size on the microstructure and bonding property of the geopolymers. A homogeneous geopolymer layer coated well on the concrete surface via aluminosilicate bonding, but the adhesiveness of the shell powder on the geopolymer cement was dependent on the grain size of the shell powder. Superior adhesive characteristics were shown in the shell powder of large grain size due to the deep penetration into the geopolymer by their large weight. This kind of coating can be applied to the adhesiveness of eco-materials on the surface of seaside or riverside blocks.

  • A new technique using a search method which is based on fuzzy multi-criteria function is proposed for GMS(generator maintenance scheduling) in order to consider multi-objective function. Not only minimization of probabilistic production cost but also maximization of system reliability level are considered for fuzzy multi-criteria function. To obtain an optimal solution for generator maintenance scheduling under fuzzy environment, fuzzy multi-criteria relaxation method(fuzzy search method) is used. The practicality and effectiveness of the proposed approach are demonstrated by simulation studies for a real size power system model in Korea in 2010.

  • The aerosol number concentration have measured with an aerodynamic particle sizer spectrometer(APS) at Gosan site in Jeju, Korea, from March 2010 to March 2011. And then the atmospheric aerosol number concentration, the temporal variation and the size distribution of aerosol number concentration have been investigated. The aerosol number concentration varies significantly from 748 particles/$cm^3$ to zero particles/$cm^3$. The average number concentration in small size ranges are very higher than those in large size ranges. The number concentrations in the size range 0.25~0.28 ${\mu}m$, 0.40~0.45 ${\mu}m$ and 2.0~2.5 ${\mu}m$ are about 84 particles/$cm^3$, 2 particles/$cm^3$ and 0.4 particles/$cm^3$, respectively. The number concentrations in range of larger than 7.5 ${\mu}m$ are below 0.001 particles/$cm^3$. The seasonal variations in the number concentration for smaller particle(<1.0 ${\mu}m$) are not much, but the variations for larger particle are very evident. And strong amplitudes of diurnal variations of entire averaged aerosol number concentration are not observed. Size-fractioned aerosol number concentrations are dramatically decreased with increased particle size. The size-fractioned aerosol number concentrations in size range 0.8~4.0 ${\mu}m$ during nighttime are evidently higher than during daytime, but similar levels are appeared in other size range. The seasonal differences in the size-fractioned number concentrations for smaller size range(<0.7 ${\mu}m$) are not observed, however, the remarkable seasonal differences are observed for larger size than 0.7 ${\mu}m$.

  • Highly monodisperse polystyrene (PS) nanospheres were fabricated by surfactant-free emulsion polymerization in water using styrene, 2,2'-azobis(2-methyl propionamidine) dihydrochloride (AIBA), and poly(vinyl pyrrolidone) (PVP). The size and distribution of the PS nanospheres were systematically investigated in terms of initiator concentration, stabilizer concentration, reaction temperature, reaction time, and reactant concentration. With increasing AIBA initiator concentration, PS particle sizes are raised proportionally, and can be controlled from 120 to 380 nm. Particle sizes were reduced with increasing PVP concentration. This decrease occurs because a high PVP concentration leads to a large number of primary nuclei in the early stage of polymerization. When the reaction temperature increased, the sizes of the PS particles decrease slightly. The particles grew quickly during the initial reaction stage (1-3 h) and the growth rate became steady-state after 6 h. The PS sizes approximately doubled when the reactant (styrene, PVP, azo-initiator) concentrations were increased by a factor of eight.

  • A One-Dimensional Water Flow and Contaminant Transport in Unsaturated Zone (FTUNS) code has been developed in order to interpret radionuclide migration in an unsaturated zone. The pore-size distribution index (n) and the inverse of the air-entry value ($\alpha$) for an unsaturated zone were measured by KS M ISO 11275 method. The hydraulic parameters of the unsaturated soil are investigated by using soil from around a nuclear facility in Korea. The effect of hydraulic parameters on radionuclide migration in an unsaturated zone has been analyzed. The higher the value of the n-factor, the more the cobalt concentration was condensed. The larger the value of $\alpha$-factor, the faster the migration of cobalt was and the more aggregative the cobalt concentration was. Also, it was found that an effect on contaminant migration due to the pore-size distribution index (n) and the inverse of the air-entry value ($\alpha$) was minute. Meanwhile, migrations of cobalt and cesium are in inverse proportion to the Freundich isotherm coefficient. That is to say, the migration velocity of cobalt was about 8.35 times that of cesium. It was conclusively demonstrated that the Freundich isotherm coefficient was the most important factor for contaminant migration.

  • Al-Zn based alloys are the most common types of wrought Al alloys. Although Al-Zn alloys have high strength, they cannot be applied to a conventional casting process. In this study, Al-Zn-based alloys applicable to a die casting process were developed successfully. The developed Al-45 wt% Zn-based alloys showed a fine equiaxed grain structure and high strength. A fine equiaxed grain having an average size of $25{\mu}m$ was obtained by the die casting process. The UTS and elongation of the new alloy are 475 MPa and ~3.5%, respectively. In addition, we elucidate the effect of a Zn addition on variations in different mechanical properties and the microstructure characteristics of (Al96.3-xZnxCu3Si0.4Fe0.3) x=20, 30, 40, and 45 wt% alloys fabricated by a die casting process.
