An Application of CAE in the Decision of Optimum Runner Size in Injection Molding (사출성형에서 런너 크기의 최적화를 위한 CAE 적용)

  • The delivery system such as sprue, runner and gate is a waste of resin in injection molding operation. In this study the reduction of runner size has been investigated using injection molding CAE softwares, Moldflow and Moldex, and commercial CFD Softwares, Fluent and Polyflow. To verify the computational results experiment was performed. There were three considerations in deciding optimal runner size in this study: minimum pressure at the gate that makes resin fully filled in the cavity, minimum runner size that compensates shrinkage of resin in the cavity, and frozen layer thickness formed in the runner during injection. Through the computer simulations the optimal runner size that satisfies those three considerations has been decided. Although the computational results among the softwares were slightly different, it was enough to predict, the optimal runner size. The previous runner diameter was 8 mm and predicted optimal size was 5 mm. This was verified by injection molding experiment. Thus, the way of CAE application in deciding optimal runner size adapted in this study would be appropriated.

Analysis of Current Size Establishment of Clothing Sizes in China (중국 의복사이즈의 규격설정에 관한 현황분석)

  • For the advance of Korea's ready-made clothes industry into China, we need some information about the body types of the Chinese and the sizes of ready-made clothes. The purpose of this study is to prepare basic data about the reality and process of the size establishment of clothing sizes in China. The conclusions are as follows. 1. Clothing size establishment was made three times in 1981, 1991, and 1997. At present, the version of 'GB/T 1335-1997 Size' is used. 2. 'GB/T 1335-1997 Size' is composed as follows. \circled1 Based on the drop values of chest girth and waist girth, 4 (Y. A, B, C) body types of adult men and women were chosen. \circled2 Sizes contains Ho and Hyoung, 'Ho' refer to height (cm) and serve as the standard of length, while 'Hyoung' indicate chest girth (cm) and act as the standard of girth. \circled3 The size divisions of the 3 basic items for adults are 5cm (height), 4cm (chest girth), and 2cm (waist girth). So they are named '5ㆍ4, 5ㆍ2 size series', \circled4 For grading in dress production, approximate values to the means of the 2 basic items are called 'center types'.\circled5 Other necessary items for clothing design besides 3 basic items are named 'control items'. \circled6 For babies, children, and adolescents, no body type classification is established. Instead, size series are established according to body height.

Variation of the Fracture Resistance Curve with the Change of a Size in the CT Specimen (CT시험편의 크기 변화에 따른 파괴저항곡선의 변화)

  • In order to obtain more realistic fracture resistance curve, research is currently underway to introduce new parameter and to quantify the constraint effect. The objective of this study is to investigate the relationship between the constraint effect of a size(plane size and thickness) and the fracture resistance curve. In this paper fracture toughness tests were performed with various plane size and various thickness of specimens in two materials. The test results showed that the effects of plane size in th4 J-R curve were significant and the curve was risen with an increase in plane size. However, relatively weak influence was observed form the change of the specimen thickness and size. The stress fields near the crack tip of th specimen is close to the HRR field according to increasing the plane size and Q stress appears different value according to material properties and the plane size.

Estimation of Genetic Variance and Covariance Components for Litter Size and Litter Weight in Danish Landrace Swine Using a Multivariate Mixed Model

  • Single trait mixed models have been dominantly utilized for genetic evaluation of the reproductive traits in swine. However employing multiple trait approach may lead to more accurate genetic evaluations. For 5 litter size and litter weight traits of Danish Landrace, genetic parameters were estimated with a multiple trait mixed model. The heritability estimates were 0.02, 0.03, 0.03, 0.05, and 0.07, respectively for litter size at birth, litter size born alive, litter weight at birth, litter size at weaning, and litter weight at weaning. Negative genetic correlations were all positive. The litter weight at birth showed genetic antagonism with litter size born alive (-0.65) and litter size at weaning (-0.31), but positive with litter size at birth (0.47) and litter weight at weaning (0.31). The estimates of environmental correlations were larger than their corresponding genetic correlation estimates except for those between litter weight at birth and the other four traits. This study recommends simultaneous selection for two or more traits with multivariate mixed models in order to improve overall economic response.

Impact of Biochar Particle Shape and Size on Saturated Hydraulic Properties of Soil

  • BACKGROUND: Different physical and chemical properties of biochar, which is made out of a variety of biomass materials, can impact water movement through amended soil. The objective of this research was to develop a decision support tool evaluating the impact of the shape and the size distribution of biochar on soil saturated hydraulic conductivity ($K_{sat}$). METHODS AND RESULTS: Plastic beads of different size and morphology were compared with biochar to assess impacts on soil $K_{sat}$. Bead and biochar were added at the rate of 5% (v/w) to coarse sand. The particle size of bead and biochar had an effect on the $K_{sat}$, with larger and smaller particle sizes than the original sand grain (0.5 mm) decreasing the $K_{sat}$ value. The equivalent size bead or biochar to the sand grains had no impact on $K_{sat}$. The amendment shape also influenced soil hydraulic properties, but only when the particle size was between 3-6 mm. Intra-particle porosity had no significant influence on the $K_{sat}$ due to its small pore size and increased tortuosity compared to the inter-particle spaces (macro-porosity). CONCLUSION: The results supported the conclusion that both particle size and shape of the amended biochar impacted the $K_{sat}$ value.

Size Specifications of Females Aged between 7 and 18 for 3D Body Model Development (여자 7-18세 3D 모델을 위한 인체 사이즈 스펙 개발)

  • This study develops size sections and specifications for females 7-18 years old. The specifications will contribute to the development of precise virtual models that represent basic data for the size alteration of 3D virtual models. A total of 33 items from the $5^{th}$ Size Korea data set were adopted and analyzed. Two representative factors (Obesity and Height Factors) were identified through a factor analysis of the 33 items. Waist circumference and stature were selected as representative variables for Obesity and Height Factors, respectively, and conducted cross tabulations between waist circumference and height for the age groups of 7-12 and 13-18 year-olds. Size sections were developed for the development of 3D models based on the results. A regression analysis then developed size specifications for each section with independent variables of waist circumference and height as well as dependent variables of reference body size. Subsequently, Obesity Factors were better explained by waist circumference and Height Factors were better explained by stature. Finally, size specifications for each section were developed.

  • The least-mean fourth (LMF) algorithm is well known for its fast convergence and low steady-state error especially in non-Gaussian noise environments. Recently, there has been increasing interest in the least mean square (LMS) algorithms with variable step size. It is because the variable step-size LMS algorithms have shown to outperform the conventional fixed step-size LMS in the various situations. In this paper, a variable step-size LMF algorithm is proposed, which adopts an algebraic optimal step size as a variable step size. It is expected that the proposed algorithm also outperforms the conventional fixed step-size LMF. The superiority of the proposed algorithm is confirmed by the simulations in the time invariant and time variant channels.

Development of Suit-tops Size-system for Abdomen-obese Adult Males (복부비만 성인 남성의 상의류 치수체계 제안)

  • This helps plus-size consumers purchase ready-made clothes and improves fitness by analyzing the upper body shapes of abdomen-obese adult males; in addition, it creates a size system based on each size interval of obesity shapes. The criteria for the 572 male subjects surveyed were over 25 kg/㎡ of the BMI, over 90 cm of waist, and over 0.85 waist hip ratio. The results were as follows. First, the higher the age group, the higher the degree of abdominal obesity in each age group. The degree of obesity decreases age increase; however, was the risk of abdominal obesity increased. Second, Compared to standard body types, the average body size of Abdomen-obese males is significantly larger, especially in the waist area than in the chest area. Third, to propose a size system for abdominal obese adult males, 16 sections with a final 2% rate of appearance were finally adopted as suit-tops size system for abdominal obese adult males by applying a 3 cm dimension gap between each designation as specified in the KS standard. The coverage ratio for the 16 sections was 72.6% and the coverage effienciency was 4.5%. The results of this study can be used in a various clothes; in addition, the activation and segmentation of the plus-size market are also believed to be significant.

Simulation of the Brownian Coagulation of Smoke Agglomerates in the Entire Size Regime using a Nodal Method (결절법을 이용한 전영역에서의 연기입자 응집체에 대한 브라운응집현상 해석)

  • The size distributions of smoke particles from fire are prerequisite for the studies on fire detection and adverse health effects. Above the flame of the fire, coagulation dominates and the smoke particles grow from 1 to 50 nm up to 100 to 3,000 nm, sizes ranging from the free-molecular regime to the continuum regime. The characteristics of the agglomeration of the smoke particles are well known, independently for each of the free-molecular and continuum regimes. However, there are not many systematic studies in the entire regime by the complexity of the mechanisms. The purpose of this work is to find the characteristics of the development of the size distribution of smoke particles by agglomeration in the entire size range covering the free-molecular regime, via transition regime, to the near-continuum and continuum regime for each variation of parameters such as fractal dimension, primary particle size and dimensionless coagulation time. In this work, the dynamic equation for the discrete-size spectrum of the particles was solved using a nodal method based on the modification of a sectional method. In the calculation, the collision frequency function for the entire regime, which is derived by using the concept of collision volume and general enhancement function, was applied. The self-preserving size distribution for the entire regime is compared with the ones for the free-molecular or continuum regimes for each variation of the parameters.

Meta-Analysis on the Effect of Physical Therapy Methods on Myofascial Pain Syndrome: The Cases of Domestic Research

  • Purpose: The primary purposes of this study were to identify the degree of the effect size and the variables related to it on the effects of physical therapy on myofascial pain syndrome. Methods: This study collected 15 studies published between 2008.01.01 and 2019.12.31. The Analysis results confirmed 57 effect size data. The random-effect model was chosen because of the heterogeneity of the data. Results: First, the full case showed the largest mean effect size of 2.03 (p<0.001). Second, the size of the effect, according to the handson intervention, was 2.74 (p<0.003). Third, the VAS showed an effect size of 2.30 (p<0.001). Fourth, the intervention period showed a 1- to 15-day effect size of 2.94 (p<0.001). The number of interventions showed a 6 to 10 effect size of 2.84 (p<0.006). The number of participants showed a 10 or less effect size of 2.66 (p<0.001). Finally, the 'Trim and Fill' result confirmed that the calibration effect size was 0.93 (p<0.001). Conclusion: Physical therapy had a great effect on myofascial pain syndrome in the neck and shoulders, and that the effect differed according to the methods of the intervention and the methods of evaluation.
