A Study for Flight Times and Ages affects on Situation Awareness Evaluation of Helicopter Pilots (비행시간과 연령이 헬리콥터 조종사의 상황인식 평가에 미치는 영향에 관한 연구)

  • According to U.S. NTSB, from 1989 to 1992, Situation Awareness(SA) was a major factor causing 80% of all aircraft accidents in scheduled airlines. Therefore, the prevention of accidents through effective training in SA became a pivot in aviation safety. Furthermore, during the past 10 years, since all helicopter accidents in Korea were caused by the factors related to SA, an appropriate countermeasure has been required. This study, which uses survey data, examines various factors related to SA that could affect helicopter pilots. Common characteristics of situation awareness factors are that the result from the independent variables which are flight time, duty period and age of a first officer is statistically significant with the result from the independent variables of an instructor pilot's. However, only experience is statistically significant independent variable for factors influencing decision making in emergency situations, but anxiety, expectation and comprehension are not significant.

  • The concept of SDN (Software Defined Networking) endows the network with programmability and significantly improves the flexibility and extensibility of networks. Currently a plenty of research works on introducing SDN into wireless networks. Most of them focus on the innovation of the SDN based architectures but few consider how to realize the global perception of the network through the controller. In order to address this problem, a software defined carrier grade Wi-Fi framework called SWAN, is proposed firstly. Then based on the proposed SWAN architecture, a blueprint of introducing the traditional NSA (Network Situation Awareness) into SWAN is proposed and described in detail. Through perceiving various network data by a decentralized architecture and making comprehension and prediction on the perceived data, the proposed blueprint endows the controllers with the capability to aware of the current network situation and predict the near future situation. Meanwhile, the extensibility of the proposed blueprint makes it a universal solution for software defined wireless networks SDWNs rather than just for one case. Then we further research one typical use case of proposed NSA blueprint: network performance awareness (NPA). The subsequent comparison with other methods and result analysis not only well prove the effectiveness of proposed NPA but further provide a strong proof of the feasibility of proposed NSA blueprint.

Reaction Research on the Visuospatial Ability and the Situation Awareness of Older Drivers in Driving (노인 운전자의 운전 중 시공간능력과 상황인식에 대한 반응)

  • The purpose of this paper is to examine how visuospatial ability affects the situation awareness for older drivers while driving. For this study, the Rey-Osterrith Complex Figure (ROCF) was used to measure the visuospatial ability of older drivers. The ROCF is used to measure visuospatial construct and memory abilities, and Real-Time Probes were used to measure the situation awareness with UC-win/Road simulation. Sixty drivers participated in this research (N = 30 older drivers, median = 70 years old and N = 30 younger drivers, median = 27 years old). Based on the results of this analysis, a repeated measure ANOVA was used to analyze the effect on each level of situation awareness related to visuospatial ability in driving. The results indicate that the visuospatial ability of older drivers serves as a crucial factor in determining the potential for older drivers to safely continue to drive. The results also imply the necessity of ROCF development to support and improve the visuospatial ability of older drivers.

Development of User-Centered Context Awareness System (사용자 중심의 상황 인지 시스템의 개발)

  • Recently, a smart space with Ubiquitous Environment is expanding rapidly due to the development of Ubiquitous Sensor Network. Therefore, more appropriate and intelligent services of the context awareness system is being required. The previous context awareness system can provide a service to the user through the inference only on the current situation. But, it does not handle certain situation properly when the system provides abnormal result. Also it does not have any proper method of generating reliable semantic data from sensed raw data. In this paper, we are trying to solve the problems as the following approaches. First, the system recognizes abnormal result and corrects it by learning feedback from the user. Second, we suggest a method of converting sensed data into more reliable semantic data. Third, we build the system based on an Ontological context model that is capable of interoperability and reusability. Therefore, the context awareness system of our study can enhance the previous system that can generate more reliable context data, can provide more effective inference method, and can provide more intelligent system structure.

  • IRecently, researches on the recognition of indoor user situations through various sensors in a smart home environment are under way. In this paper, the case study was conducted to determine the operation of the robot vacuum cleaner by inferring the user 's indoor situation through the operation of home appliances, because the indoor situation greatly affects the operation of home appliances. In order to collect learning data for indoor situation awareness model learning, we received feedbacks from user when there was a mistake about the cleaning situation. In this paper, we propose a semi-supervised learning method using user feedback data. When we receive a user feedback, we search for the labels of unlabeled data that most fit the feedbacks collected through genetic algorithm, and use this data to learn the model. In order to verify the performance of the proposed algorithm, we performed a comparison experiments with other learning algorithms in the same environment and confirmed that the performance of the proposed algorithm is better than the other algorithms.

  • A white cane is used by many people who are blind or visually impaired. The studies and developments in the field of smart electronic white cane have been progressed to improve walking safety of the visually handicapped person. In this paper, we describe a situation-awareness white cane which support and guide walking of the visually handicapped person by giving information of surrounding situation through connection of a white cane and a mobile device. There are easily accessible buttons in the situation-awareness white cane. These buttons is connected with the mobile device by blue-tooth, so by pushing these buttons, the visually handicapped person can receive sound-guidance. As a result, the visually handicapped person can walk more safely by getting more information of situation.

  • The ubiquitous, which is developed for human's convenience, uses the concept of situation awareness that communicates with computer and performs a certain work without user's recognition. In order to collect the information of situation, many devices are required. Also, in the condition of ubiquitous middleware, priority is given to effective controls of various devices. There are many devices for collecting the information of situation awareness such as sensor, RFID, etc. Among them, in the use of RFID, the researcher performed the experiment, in which multiple readers were used depending on the necessity of awareness information, and found the problem of intervention between readers occurring when multiple readers are used. The paper handles the problem of intervention causing from using multiple readers and suggests middleware design module using session manager to solve the problem.

This study, which uses survey data, examines various factors related to SA that could affect helicopter pilots. Recognition of and countermeasures for the factors in emergency situations were analyzed. The results show that, while the factors associated with SA and vigilance have lower correlations with each other, the factors associated with recognition, diagnosis, and generation and implementation of solutions have higher correlations with each other. Thus, the results demonstrate the need for better SA through educational training.

  • Green IT based u-City means that u-City having Green IT concept. If we adopt the situation awareness or not, the processing of Green IT may be reduced. For example, if we recognize a lot of speech sound on CCTV in u-City environment, it takes a lot of processing time and cost. However, if we want recognize emergency sound on CCTV, it takes a few reduced processing cost. So, for detecting emergency state dynamically through CCTV, we propose our advanced speech recognition system. For the purpose of that, we adopt HMM (Hidden Markov Model) for feature extraction. Also, we adopt Wiener filter technique for noise elimination in many information coming from on CCTV in u-City environment.

  • VTS 항해의 특징은 동적복잡계의 특성을 보인다는 점이다. 자율적인 행위자들인 여러 선박이 서로 영향을 끼치며 상호작용하기 때문에 불확실성이 지배하게 된다. 이러한 불확실성으로 인한 위험을 극복하기 위한 방안으로 본 연구에서는 협력항해(co-navigation)이라는 개념을 중심으로 논의를 전개하였다. 본질적으로 협력항해는 수많은 상황판단과 의사결정들의 집합체이기 때문에 우선 개별 선박들의 상황판단이 어떻게 이루어지는가를 연구하는 것으로부터 출발하여야 한다. 따라서 본고에서는 항해에서 있어서의 상황자각이 어떻게 기능하는지 알아보고, 개인적인 상황판단에서 VTS 전체 차원의 최종 의사결정이 이루어지는 전 과정을 6단계로 세분하여 논의를 전개하였다. 이렇게 세분한 각 단계에서 양질의 인지과업이 이루어지도록 돕고, 이때 저지르게 되는 실수를 수정할 수 있도록 여유시간을 확보할 수 있도록 함으로써 궁극적으로 항해위험을 줄일 수 있다는 것을 이번 연구에서 밝히고자 하였다.
