  • This paper proposes a new converter for switched reluctance motors using a Boost converter in conjunction with a Buck converter. The proposed converter has a unity power factor(hereafter referred to an UPF) in the ac input regardless of the load variations. Moreover, compared to the conventional converter topologies, the total system efficiency is improved by introducing choppingless voltage control methods in the machine side converter and an energy recovery snubber in the pre-voltage regulation stage, respectively.

  • A switch-mode AC/DC converter with high input power factor and sinusoidal input current waveforms is analyzed and modelled for computer simulation. The developed mathematical model for this converter can be used to examine the transient and steady-state performance for selecting the proper ratings of filter, boost inductor and semiconductor devices or the effects of this converter under normal and fault operating conditions on the associated power systems. The proposed model and computer programs are confirmed by comparing with the experimental results.

  • Three control strategies that can be applied to a three-phase AC-DC converter under unbalanced input voltage condition are discussed. Analytic solutions are given on the a-b-c frame, and are very simple, direct and Intuitive. All of the strategies guarantee sinusoidal input currents. All the control functions, including decoupled current control and PWM, are implemented on the a-b-c frame. Accordingly, the controller is very simple and robust. The proposal is verified by simulation and experiments on a prototype operating at 15 kHz

  • In this paper, direct power control system for three-phase PFC AC/DC converter without the source voltage sensors is proposed. The sinusoidal input current and unity effective power factor are realised based on the estimated flux in the observer. Both active and reactive power calculated using estimated flux. The estimation of flux is performed based on the reduced-order virtual flux observer using the actual currents and the command control voltage. Moreover, source voltage sensors are replaced by a estimated flux. DC output voltage has been compensated by DC output ripple voltage estimation algorithm. The active and reactive powers estimation are performed based on the estimated flux and Phase angle. The proposed algorithm is verified through simulation and experiment.

  • Electric propulsion ships are gaining widespread interest in the marine industry owing to extreme air pollution concerns. Consequently, several studies are actively being conducted for improving the power quality. Various methods have been developed that incorporate passive filters, notch filters, and active filters for reducing the harmonic content in the input current of a conventional diode front end rectifier. Among such filters, the active front end (AFE) rectifier is considered as an excellent technology. In this paper, current control for an AFE rectifier employing space vector PWM (Pulse Width Modulation) is proposed. Conventional current control methods for the AFE rectifier, hysteresis, SPWM (Sinusoidal Pulse Width Modulation), and SVPWM (Space Vector Pulse Width Modulation) were simulated by employing the PSIM software tool for analysis and comparisons. The results corroborate that SVPWM has the simplest structure and provides the best performance.

  • In a utility interactive photovoltaic generation system. a PWM inverter is used for the connection between the p photovoltaic arrays and the utility. The dc current becomes pulsated when the conventional inverter system operates i in the continuous current mode and de current pulsation causes the distortion of the accurrent waveform. This paper p presents the reduced pulsation of de input current by operating the inverter with buck-boost chopper in the d discontinuous conduction mode. The dc current which contains harmonic component is analyzed by means of s separating into two terms of a ripple component and a direct component. The constant dc current without p pulsation is supplied from photovoltaic array to the inverter. The proposed inverter system provides a sinusoidal ac c current for domestic loads and the utility line with unity power factor.

The do current becomes pulsated when the conventional inverter system operates in the continuous current mode and dc current pulsation causes the distortion of the ac current waveform. To reduce pulsation of dc input current, This paper presents a Buck-Boost PWM power inverter and its application for residential photovoltaic system. The PWM power inverter is realized by combining two sets of a high frequency Buck-Boost chopper and by making it operate in the discontinuous conduction mode. In this paper, we show the Buck-Boost PWM power inverter circuit, its equivalent circuit and basic differential equations and the power flow characteristics are clarified when the proposed Inverter is interconnected with the utility lines. In conclusion, the proposed inverter system provides a sinusoidal ac current for domestic loads and the utility line with unity power factor

  • This paper deals with a single-phase dynamic voltage restorer(DVR) with a quasi Z-source topology. The proposed system based on a single-phase quasi Z-source PWM ac-ac converter which have features such as the input voltage and output voltage are sharing ground, and input current operates in continuous current mode(CCM). For the detection of voltage sag-swell, peak voltage detection method is applied. Also, the circuit principles of the proposed system are described. During the 60% severe voltage sag and 30% voltage swell, the proposed system controls the adding or missing voltage and maintains the rated voltage of sinusoidal waveform at the terminals of the critical loads. Finally, PSIM simulation and experimental results are presented to verify the proposed concept and theoretical analysis.

  • This paper describes a new inverter active inverter between a photovoltaic(PV) array and single-phase utility that avoid the bulky input(60Hz) transformer on the AC side. The interface employs a pwm boost converter on the DC side followed by a pwm boost converter on the DC side followed by a pwm current-forced single-phase rectifier for injecting the power from the PV array into the mains. The current waveform at the AC side remains sinusoidal and exactly in phase at all time. The circuit also has the advantage of requiring fewer switching device than high-frequency link system. This paper describes modeling of PV array and new system topology. Simulation results on the performance of the connection are also presented.
