AlN-Al2O3 계에서의 상압소결 질화물복합체 (Pressureless Sintered Nitride Composites in the AlN-Al2O3 System)

  • Particulate nitride composites have been fabricated by sintering the compacted powder of AlN and 5 - 64.3 mol% $Al_2O_3$, with a small addition of $Y_2O_3$ ($Y_2O_3$/AlN, 1 wt%), in 1-atm nitrogen gas at $1650-1900^{\circ}C$. The composites were characterized in terms of sintering behavior, phase relations, microstructure and thermal shock resistance. AlN, 27R AlN pseudopolytype, and alminium oxynitride (AlON, $5AlN{\cdot}9Al_2O_3$) were found to existin the sintered material. Regardless of batch composition, the AlN-$Al_2O_3$ powder compacts exhibited similar sintering behavior; however, the degree of shrinkage commonly increased with increasing $Al_2O_3$ content, consequently giving high sintered bulk density. By increasing the $Al_2O_3$ addition up to ${\geq}50 mol%$, the matrix phase in the sintered material was converted from AlN or 27R to AlON. Above $1850^{\circ}C$, a liquid phase was formed by the reaction of $Al_2O_3$ with AlN, aided by $Y_2O_3$ and mainly existed at the grain boundaries of AlON. Thermal shock resistance was superior in the sintered composite consisting of AlON with dispersed AlN or AlN matrix phase.

Microstructure and Microwave Dielectric Properties of (1-x) Ba (Co1/3Nb2/3)O3-zBa(Zn1/3Nb2/3)O3 Ceramics

  • Ba (Co$_{1}$ 3/Nb$_{2}$ 3/)O$_3$(BCN) has a 1:2 ordered hexagonal structure. Q-value of BCN increased with increasing sintering temperature however, it significantly decreased when the sintering temperature exceeded 140$0^{\circ}C$ Ba (Co$_{1}$ 3/Nb$_{2}$ 3/)O$_3$(BZN) has the 1:2 ordered hexagonal structure and the degree of the 1 : 2 ordering decreased with the increase of the sintering temperature. The Q value of the BZN increased with increasing the sintering temperature and BZN sintered at 140$0^{\circ}C$ for 6h has a maximum Q-value. For (1-x) Ba (Co$_{1}$ 3/Nb$_{2}$ 3/)O$_3$-zBa(Zn$_{1}$ 3/Nb$_{2}$ 3/)O$_3$[(1-x)BCN-xBZN] ceramics the 1:2 ordered hexagonal structure was observed in the specimens with x$\leq$0.3 and the BaNb$_{6}$ O$^{16}$ second phase was found in the specimens with x$\geq$0.6. Grain Growth, which is rotated to the BaNb$_{6}$ O$^{16}$ second phase occurred in the specimens with x$\geq$ 0.5. In this work, the excellent microwave dielectric properties of $\tau$r=0.0 ppm/$^{\circ}C$$\varepsilon$r=34.5 and Q,$\times$f=97000GHz sere obtained for the 0.7BCV-0.3BZN ceramics sintered at 1400$0^{\circ}C$ for 20h.

물라이트합성과 $TiO_2$ 의 효과에 관하여 (Formationof Mullite and Effect of $TiO_2$ on Mullitization)

  • Mullite was synthesized by using kaolin and $\alpha$-alumina, and halloysite and aluminum hydroxide as raw materials at the various temperature in the range of 1200$^{\circ}$-1750$^{\circ}$C. The degree of mullitization was measured respectively by a quantitative X-ray diffraction method and a chemical analysis method. The rate and the maximum degree of mullitization were found to increase with temperature . The reaction completed at 1600$^{\circ}$Cfor less than 30 minutes, and yielded 98% mulllite inpurity in the case of kaolin-Al(OH)3. TiO$_2$ up to 3% was added to the batches of kaolin-Al(OH)$_3$. the effect of addition on the mullitization was investigated and found to decrease the sintering temperature for the mullitization. The mechanism of TiO$_2$ addition on the formation of mullite was also discussed.

BSCCO 초전도 선재의 미세조직 및 임계전류밀도에 미치는 공정변수 효과 (Effect of Processing Variables on Microstructure and Critical Current Density of BSCCO Superconductors Tape)

  • We evaluated the effect of processing variables on microstructural evolution interface irregularity between Ag sheath and superconductor core and resultant critical current density(J$_{c}$) of (Bi,Pb)$_2$Sr$_2$Ca$_2$Cu$_3$O$_{x}$(2223) superconductor tape. The value of J$_{c}$ was significantly influenced by the interface irregularity, degree of texturing and relative 2223 content. The interface became more irregular(sausage effect), while the degree of texturing gradually improved as the dimension of tape decreased during forming process. As the dimension of wire/tape were changed from diameter of 3.25 mm to thickness of 0.20 mm, J$_{c}$ value was observed to be increased by 10 times. In addition, optimum sintering temperature for improved J$_{c}$ was observed to be 835$^{\circ}C$ in a ambient atmosphere probably due to combined effect of both improved texturing and high 2223 content. Microstructural investigation showed the degree of texturing was degraded by the existence of both second phases and interface irregularity. It was observed that larger grain size and better texturing was developed near relatively flat interface compared to those inside superconducting core.ting core.

강진과 부안 청자 도편의 비교연구 (Comparative Study of Celadon Shards from Gangjin and Buan Kiln Sites)

  • Celadon shards from Gangjin and Buan were analyzed for their color, chemistry and microstructures. They exhibited similar chromatic characteristics in a $CIEL^*a^*b^*$ analysis. All of the glazes assessed showed comparable compositional areas, while the bodies from Gangjin shards had higher $RO_2$ concentrations. A high degree of similarity was also noted in the microstructures of the glaze and bodies from both regions. Anorthite crystals appeared in the glaze layer, and phase separation behavior developed around these crystals. This may have been caused by the glaze chemistry and the sintering process given the lengthy heating and cooling time. A Raman analysis indicated higher isolated $SiO_4$ unit ($Q_0$) values for the Buan samples. This can stem from the higher firing temperature or the longer sintering process.

Indium Tin Oxide (ITO) Coatings Fabricated Using Mixed ITO Sols

  • ITO films were achieved by sintering at $500{\sim}550{^{\circ}C}$. This was possible by inducing a seeding effect on an ITO sol by producing crystalline ITO nanoparticles in situ during heat treatment. Two kinds of ITO sols (named ITO-A and ITO-B) were prepared at 2.0 wt% from indium acetate and tin(IV) chloride in different mixed solvents. The ITO-A sol showed a high degree of crystallinity of ITO without any detectable Sn$O_2$ on XRD at $350{^{\circ}C}$/1 h, but the ITO-B sol showed a small amount of Sn$O_2$ even after annealing at $600{^{\circ}C}$/1 h. The 10 wt% ITO-A//ITO-B showed the sheet resistance of 3600$\Omega$/□, while the ITO-B sol alone showed 5200 $\Omega$/□ by sintering at $550{^{\circ}C}$ for 30 min. Processing parameters were studied by TG/DSC, XRD, SEM, sheet resistance, and visible transmittance.

  • YIG는 분해용융을 하므로 FZ법을 개량한 TSFZ법을 적용하여 YIG단결정을 성장시켰다. 최적성장조건은 성장속도 1mm/hr, 상호역방향 회전속도 30rpm이었으며 소결 및 결정성장시 산화분위기를 필요로 하였고 성장된 결정의 질은 소결정도에 의해 많은 영향을 받았다. Melt내 기포의 생성은 철이온과 산소와의 반응에 의해 발생되었으며 기포의 밀도는 성장속도가 빨라질수록 증가하였다. 성장속도는 1mm/hr 이상일 경우에는 Cell Growth가 발생하였으며 결정의 가장자리에서 전위밀도가 증가하였다. 또한 성장된 결정에서는 제2상으로 Orthoferrite가 관찰되었다.

  • The measurement of the apparent and tap density for Al-Pb-X(Sn,Sn-Si) powders produced by centrifugal atomizer showed that the larger theoretically calculated densities the larger those densities. And tap densities were not over 50% of the theoretical densities. The nip angle of Al-5wt%Pb alloy powders produced with 38000 r.p.m. of disk rotation was $3^{\circ}$ degree larger than that of Al-8.5wt%Pb-3wt%Sn(-4wt%Si, 8wt%Si) with 50000 r.p.m. The effects of roll gap and rolling speed on thickness and density of the single strips by rolling were that rolling speed increasing the thickness and density of strip decreased and roll gap increasing, the thickness of strip increased but the density decresed. The compactibility of Al-Pb-X with Al by rerolling showed that the coarse powder-strips were better than fine powder-strips. From the SEM study with EDX analysis on the sintered strips, it was found that Pb and Sn were segregated with maximum size $5{\mu}m$, and Si existed surrounding the segregation zone. After sintering the clad strips at $500^{\circ}C$, the pores, which were spherical with $5{\mu}m$ of mean diameter, partly remained around the particles of alloy powders area, while completely disappeared at clad interface. The hardness of strips of alloy powders decreased linearly with increasing sintering temperature.

  • A1 분말의 첨가량을 변화시킨 알루미나 쉘 몰드를 제조하여 소성조건에 따른 알루미나/실리카의 뮬라이트화 거동을 관찰하였다. 알루미나/실리카의 뮬라이트화 반응은 소성온도 및 A1 함량의 증가에 따라 증대함을 알 수 있었으나 쉘 몰드의 상온강도는 감소하였다. 각 소성조건에서 측정된 쉘 강도는 2.0~2.6kg/$\textrm{mm}^2$임을 알 수 있었다. Al의 첨가는 고온에서 쉘 몰드의 변형을 억제시켰다. 특히 2.5wt%%의 Al을 첨가한 후 $1000^{\circ}C$에서 1시간 유지한 시편에서는 변형이 일어나지 않았으며, 또한 Al을 첨가하지 않은 시편을 $1500^{\circ}C$에서 4시간동안 소성한 시편에서도 변형이 일어나지 않음을 알 수 있었다.

Variation in optical, dielectric and sintering behavior of nanocrystalline NdBa2NbO6

  • High quality nanoparticles of neodymium barium niobium ($NdBa_2NbO_6$) perovskites have been synthesized using an auto ignition combustion technique for the first time. The nanoparticles thus obtained have been characterized by powder X-ray diffraction, thermo gravimetric analysis, differential thermal analysis, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, Raman spectroscopy and transmission electron microscopy. UV-Visible absorption and photoluminescence spectra of the samples are also recorded. The structural analysis shows that the nano powder is phase pure with the average particle size of 35 nm. The band gap determined for $NdBa_2NbO_6$ is 3.9 eV which corresponds to UV-radiation for optical inter band transition with a wavelength of 370nm. The nanopowder could be sintered to 96% of the theoretical density at $1325^{\circ}C$ for 2h. The ultrafine cuboidal nature of nanopowders with fewer degree of agglomeration improved the sinterability for compactness at relatively lower temperature and time. During the sintering process the wide band gap semiconducting behavior diminishes and the material turns to a high permittivity dielectric. The microstructure of the sintered surface was examined using scanning electron microscopy. The striking value of dielectric constant ${\varepsilon}_r=43$, loss factor tan ${\delta}=1.97{\times}10^{-4}$ and the observed band gap value make it suitable for many dielectric devices.
