Analysis of Expressed Sequence Tags from the Red Alga Griffithsia okiensis

  • Red algae are distributed globally, and the group contains several commercially important species. Griffithsia okiensis is one of the most extensively studied red algal species. In this study, we conducted expressed sequence tag (ESTs) analysis and synonymous codon usage analysis using cultured G. okiensis samples. A total of 1,104 cDNA clones were sequenced using a cDNA library made from samples collected from Dolsan Island, on the southern coast of Korea. The clustering analysis of these sequences allowed for the identification of 1,048 unigene clusters consisting of 36 consensus and 1,012 singleton sequences. BLASTX searches generated 532 significant hits (E-value <$10^{-4}$) and via further Gene Ontology analysis, we constructed a functional classification of 434 unigenes. Our codon usage analysis showed that unigene clusters with more than three ESTs had higher GC contents (76.5%) at the third position of the codons than the singletons. Also, the majority of the optimal codons of G. okiensis and Chondrus crispus belonging to Bangiophycidae were G-ending, whereas those of Porphyra yezoensis belonging to Florideophycidae were G-ending. An orthologous gene search for the P. yezoensis EST database resulted in the identification of 39 unigenes commonly expressed in two rhodophytes, which have putative functions for structural proteins, protein degradation, signal transduction, stress response, and physiological processes. Although experiments have been conducted on a limited scale, this study provides a material basis for the development of microarrays useful for gene expression studies, as well as useful information for the comparative genomic analysis of red algae.

혼외 출생아의 조기분만과 저체중아 발생 위험도에 관한 연구: 2008-2012년 출생통계 (Risk Factors for Preterm Birth and Low Birth Weight in Extramarital Birth: 2008-2012 Birth Certificated Data)

  • The objective of this study was to analyze the risk of preterm birth (PTB) and low birth weight (LBW) in extramarital birth by analyzing 2008-2012 birth certificated data (2,328,719 births) from Korea Statistics. Odds ratio and 95% confidence intervals (95% CI) were calculated from logistic regression analyses to describe the associations between PTB & LBW and extramarital birth adjusted for maternal age, maternal occupation & education, infantile sex, birth order and number of child birth (singleton & multiple birth). The rate of extramarital birth was 1.8 percent and 2.1 percent in 2010-11. The incidence of LBW was 8.1 percent in extramarital birth and 5.0 percent in marital birth. The incidence of PTB in extramarital birth were 8.2 percent and 5.8 percent in marital birth. Compared with marital birth, the odds ratio (OR) for PTB were 1.48 (95% CI: 1.43-1.54) for extramarital birth. Risk of LBW was higher in extramarital birth (OR: 1.70, 95% CI: 1.64-1.76) than that of marital birth. Among mothers younger than 20 years, the odds ratio of PTB among extramarital birth, relative to married birth was 1.69 (1.49-1.91). Among unmarried mothers, those at a higher risk of LBW was aged 20-29 years (1.69: 1.59-1.79). Maternal unmarried status was associated with increased risk of PTB and LBW.

잣나무(Pinus koraiensis)의 cDNA library 제작 및 EST 분석 (Construction of a full-length cDNA library from Pinus koraiensis and analysis of EST dataset)

  • In this study, we report the generation and analysis of a total of 1,211 expressed sequence tags (ESTs) from Pinus koraiensis. A cDNA library was generated from the young leaf tissue and a total of 1,211 cDNA were partially sequenced. EST and unigene sequence quality were determined by computational filtering, manual review, and BLAST analyses. In all, 857 ESTs were acquired after the removal of the vector sequence and filtering over a minimum length 50 nucleotides. A total of 411 unigene, consisting of 89 contigs and 322 singletons, was identified after assembling. Also, we identified 77 new microsatellite-containing sequences from the unigenes and classified the structure according to their repeat unit. According to homology search with BLASTX against the NCBI database, 63.1% of ESTs were homologous with known function and 22.2% of ESTs were matched with putative or unknown function. The remaining 14.6% of ESTs showed no significant similarity to any protein sequences found in the public database. Gene ontology (GO) classification showed that the most abundant GO terms were transport, nucleotide binding, plastid, in terms biological process, molecular function and cellular component, respectively. The sequence data will be used to characterize potential roles of new genes in Pinus and provided for the useful tools as a genetic resource.

The Effect of Maternal Pre-pregnancy Body Mass Index on Very Low Birth Weight Infants

  • Purpose: The pre-pregnancy body mass index (BMI) is associated with adverse neonatal outcomes. However, studies on very low birth weight (VLBW) infants are rare. This study aimed to investigate the effect of maternal pre-pregnancy BMI on VLBW infants. Methods: This retrospective study evaluated singleton VLBW infants born at the CHA Gangnam Medical Center from 2006 to 2016. The neonates were classified into three groups according to the maternal pre-pregnancy BMI: underweight (<$18.5kg/m^2$), normal weight (${\geq}18.5$ to <$23kg/m^2$), and overweight or obese (${\geq}23kg/m^2$). Clinical characteristics and morbidities of mothers and infants were analyzed. Results: A total of 181 infants belonging to underweight (16.6%), normal weight (58.6%), and overweight or obese (24.8%) groups were enrolled. The pre-pregnancy BMI had a significant negative correlation with gestational age (r=-0.198, P=0.001) and a significant positive correlation with the z-score of the birth weight (r=0.078, P=0.001) and body length (r=0.067, P=0.008). The number of extremely preterm infants was significantly higher in the overweight or obese group. The proportion of risk of small for gestational age infants was higher in the underweight group (adjusted odds ratio [OR], 2.958; 95% confidence interval [CI], 1.113 to 7.864), whereas that of infants with severe retinopathy of prematurity was higher in the overweight or obese group (adjusted OR, 9.546; 95% CI, 1.230 to 74.109). Conclusion: In our population of VLBW infants, the pre-pregnancy BMI was associated with gestational age, intrauterine growth, and adverse neonatal outcomes. Therefore, proper weight control before pregnancy is important.

언어변수 및 계수선택방법을 이용한 퍼지제어기 설계에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Construction method to improve the fuzzy controllers using language variable and coefficient selecting method)

  • 본 논문에서는 제산기가 제거된 싱글톤 퍼지제어기에 대한 새로운 귀속도 함수 발생기 및 계수 선택기회로를 제안함으로써 회로 구성소자를 줄일 수 있는 기법을 제안하였다. 입력 값의 범위에 따라 추론에 사용될 언어변수를 미리 결정하여 필요한 귀속도 함수만을 발생시킴으로서 보다 간략화 된 회로를 구성할 수 있으며 또한 추론의 결과에 영향을 줄 계수들을 미리 선택해 주는 계수 선택회로를 통해 전건부의 적합도가 0이 되는 모든 규칙들에 대한 연산 회로를 제거하였다. 그리고 귀속도 함수 발생기에서 발생하는 전류모드 CMOS 회로의 문제점인 팬-아웃(fan-out)수의 제한을 해결하기 위해 전압입력-전류출력의 귀속도 함수발생기를 OTA방식으로 구성하였다. 기존의 방법에 비해 블록 수와 소자수가 큰 폭으로 감소하였음을 확인하였고, 또한 전건부와 언어변수의 수가 증가할수록 더욱 효과적임을 확인하였다.

열과 연기농도를 입력변수로 갖는 퍼지로직을 이용한 화재감지시스템 (A Fire Detection System Using Fuzzy Logic with Input Variables of Temperature and Smoke Density)

  • 본 논문은 열과 연기농도를 입력변수로 갖는 퍼지로직을 적용한 화재감지시스템을 제시한 연구이다. 본 논문에서 제시한 화재감지시스템은 열과 연기농도를 입력신호로 받아들이고 이를 통하여 화재가능성이 추론되는 퍼지추론시스템을 포함하고 있다. 이 추론시스템의 조건부(antecedent part)는 fuzzy 단일 값(singleton)으로 열과 연기농도가 입력되도록 하였고, 결론부(conclusion part)는 화재가능성으로 적용하였다. 또한 퍼지추론을 위하여 적용된 membership함수는 삼각형 membership함수이다 추론하는 방법은 Mamdani가 제안한 minimum 연산을 사용하였다. 그리고 이러한 계산을 위하여 Matlab 프로그램을 사용하였고 이 프로그램을 이용하여 GUI(graphic user interface)기반의 화재감지프로그램을 개발하였다. 이와 같은 퍼지로직이 적용된 화재감지시스템의 신뢰성을 검증하기 위하여 불꽃화재와 훈소화재에 대한 실험을 통하여 추론되는 화재가능성을 분석하였다. 그 결과 본 연구의 퍼지로직을 적용한 화재감지시스템은 연소상황에 따라 비교적 정확하게 화재가능성을 추론하였다.

한우 자궁경부의 임신경과에 따른 형태학적 및 조직화학적 연구 (Pregnancy-associated changes in morphological and histochemical characteristics of the uterine cervix of the native Korean cattle)

  • This study was performed to investigate the effect of gestation on the histological and histochemical changes of the uterine cervix of the native Korean cattle. A total of 110 cows obtained from the Chonhuk abattoir were divided into six groups. The 1st group was of 9 non-pregnant cows and 101 singleton pregnant cows were grouped into 5 groups from pregnant I to pregnant V according to gestation periods by means of crown rump length measures. For light microscopy the tissues were fixed in 10% neutral formalin and processed routinely for paraffin sections The $6{\mu}m$ sections were taken and stained with H-E, Alcian blue pH 1.0, Alcian blue pH 2.5, Alcian blue pH 2.5/PAS, PAS reaction, toluidin blue, and trichrome. The results obtained were as follows: 1. The cervical lengths and widths were increased in relation to advancing gestation. 2. The cervical folds of the pregnant groups were increased and complicated with many branches, and the cervical muscosal epithelia were increased in according to advancing gestation. 3. As advancing gestation, the tunics muscularis of cervix was increased following moderate distribution of fibroblast and vascularity, meanwhile decreased mast cells were found. 4. The cervical mucosubstance was composed of mixed mucopolysaccharides; the acid mucus was increased from the early pregnant state but the neutral mucus was found after pregnant IV, and the mucus was stained deeply in each staining in the fold cavity in according to gestation state.

멸종위기 어류 어름치 Hemibarbus mylodon (Cypriniformes)로부터 조직별 EST library 제작 및 발현 유전자 탐색 (Survey of Expressed Sequence Tags from Tissue-Specific cDNA Libraries in Hemibarbus mylodon, an Endangered Fish Species)

  • 멸종위기 천연기념물 어류 어름치(Hemibarbus mylodon)를 대상으로한 어름치 유전자 은행 구축 연구의 일환으로 뇌, 소화관, 근육, 간, 신장, 난소 및 정소 조직으로부터 expressed sequence tag (EST) library들을 구축하고 발현 유전자의 탐색을 실시하였다. EST 탐색을 통해 총 3,383개의 발현 유전자 염기서열 단편을 확보하였고 이들로부터 1,354개의 EST를 포함하는 총 333개의 contig들이 형성됨으로써 비교적 높은 빈도(69.8%)의 unigene 확보율을 나타내었다. EST의 조직 별 출현 양상은 orthologue들과의 상동성 정도 및 유추 기능의 대분류를 기준으로 분석할 때 각 조직들은 서로 다른 특징을 나타내었다. 어름치에서 발굴된 EST들은 zebrafish의 유전자들과 가장 높은 match 빈도를 나타내었다. 본 연구를 통해 확보된 EST library들과 염기서열 정보는 본 종의 장외 복원을 위한 효율적인 인공증식 기술 개발에 유용한 기초 정보로 활용될 수 있을 것이다.

A set ${\mathbf{A}}=\{A_1,A_2,{\ldots},A_l\}$ is a minimal cover of [n] if ${\cup}_{1{\leq}i{\leq}l}A_i=[n]$ and $$\bigcup_{{1{\leq}i{\leq}l,}\\{i{\neq}j_0}}A_i{\neq}[n]\text{ for all }j_0{\in}[l]$$. Let ${\mathcal{C}}(n)$ denote the collection of all minimal covers of [n], and write $C_n={\mid}{\mathcal{C}}(n){\mid}$. Let ${\mathbf{A}}{\in}{\mathcal{C}}(n)$. An element $u{\in}[n]$ is critical in ${\mathbf{A}}$ if it appears exactly once in ${\mathbf{A}}$. Two minimal covers ${\mathbf{A}},{\mathbf{B}}{\in}{\mathcal{C}}(n)$ are said to be restricted t-intersecting if they share at least t sets each containing an element which is critical in both ${\mathbf{A}}$ and ${\mathbf{B}}$. A family ${\mathcal{A}}{\subseteq}{\mathcal{C}}(n)$ is said to be restricted t-intersecting if every pair of distinct elements in ${\mathcal{A}}$ are restricted t-intersecting. In this paper, we prove that there exists a constant $n_0=n_0(t)$ depending on t, such that for all $n{\geq}n_0$, if ${\mathcal{A}}{\subseteq}{\mathcal{C}}(n)$ is restricted t-intersecting, then ${\mid}{\mathcal{A}}{\mid}{\leq}{\mathcal{C}}_{n-t}$. Moreover, the bound is attained if and only if ${\mathcal{A}}$ is isomorphic to the family ${\mathcal{D}}_0(t)$ consisting of all minimal covers which contain the singleton parts $\{1\},{\ldots},\{t\}$. A similar result also holds for restricted r-cross intersecting families of minimal covers.

제품정보관리를 위한 통합적 멀티BOM시스템 (An Integrated Multi-BOM System for Product Data Management)

  • Bill of material (BOM), which structurally represents the relation among parts constructing a product, is usually created when enterprises start to develop a new product. And it is shown as various types of BOM according to business needs and usage such as eBOM (engineering BOM), gBOM (green BOM), mBOM (manufacturing BOM), pBOM (process BOM), etc. eBOM, generally called BOM and created in the design stage of the new product, includes the drawing information of parts in the view of product function. eBOM is extended to gBOM adding the material information of parts to cope with international regulations for environment. eBOM is transformed to mBOM, which includes manufacturing sequence of parts and adds some parts required to fabricate parts and to assemble the product. mBOM is also extended to pBOM adding the process information of each part and additional assembly processes. This study introduces the concept of multi-BOM covering eBOM, gBOM, mBOM and pBOM, and proposes an advanced way to manage product data using multi-BOM system. The multi-BOM system proposed is to manage their relations using transformation function of BOM and master information of all BOMs.
