  • The objectives of this study were to develop a probabilistic model for both hypotheses testing and mobility prediction. Methodologies being used for the analysis include multivariated analysis for descriptive statistics and logit model for hypotheses testing and prediction. The study used questionaire survey data conducted by Korean Research Institute for Human Settlements (KRIHS) in 1988. There were a total of 1,620 Samples, and both SPSS and Limdep software packages were used for statistical analysis and model testing. The major findings were highlighted as follows; The residential mobility over family life span by the social class were developed with the use of the probability model. Most of households in low class moved downwardly. They had lived the small-owned single detached house in first family life span and moved into the small-rented single detached house in next family life span. Most of households in middle class moved upwardly. They had lived the small-owned apartment in first family life span and moved into the large-owned single detached house in last family life span. Most of households in high class horizontally. They had lived the large-owned single detached house in first family life span and moved into the same one except in last family life span.

  • The purpose of this study is to examine the trasfiguration of the inner-courtyard (MADANG) at the single-detached urban dwellings in Taegu using the documentary research and survey method. The data was analyzed by the frequency, percentage, and x2-test. The major finding of this study was that the conventional meaning of the inner-courtyard existed in the designation and necessity, facilites, and needs in the future of the open space at the single-detached urban dwellings. Although people who were in their 30s favored the western style of house and garden, people who were in their 50s favored the traditional style of inner-courtyard. This study aims to analyze the residence environment level of the some local cities by using the Z-score method and to propose a higher residence environment. The elements of measurement in this study are determined by the general methodology. The results are as followings: 1. The residence environment level of Yeosu and Mokpo is high, that of Andong and Kyeongsan is low in this study. The ratio of road paving is the most related element in the correlation analysis. 2. The ratio of sewage supply is low compared with the scale of the dwelling area. So the sanitation environment should be improved. 3. • As climate change and environmental degradation become more evident, the public's concern and knowledge on sustainable development requires planners to have regards to social impacts and long term economic viability, as well as environmental impacts. The main objective of this study is to analyze existing sustainability assessment tools for single detached houses. The most widely used oversea tools are selected. From analysis on the existing assessment tools, "Impact Estimator" by Athena Institute, "Bees 4.0" by NIST, "CASBEE for Home" by JSBC, "Envest for Housing" by Energy Saving Trust, "LISA" by Center for Sustainable Technology, "SBTool" by iiSBE (International Initiative for Sustainable Built Environment), it can be seen that the current sustainability assessment programs are in need of much improvement. The selected programs are analyzed on scope of program setting & running, data input & output, assessment categories, and strength & weakness. This study is to supplement the existing sustainability assessment tools for single detached houses, and provide information for the development of web-based program to assist architects or home owners to plan sustainable houses in Korea in the schematic design stage.

  • This paper examines the changes in housing characteristics occupied by two or more households from 1995-2005, as a replicated follow-up study done by the previous decade of 1985-1995. The data analyzed were based on the Population and Housing Census in 1995, 2000, and 2005 by the Korean National Statistical Office. Results showed decreasing trends in the percentages of housing units occupied by multi-households and of households sharing a housing unit, while the average number of households for a shared housing unit was increasing. Detached dwellings in dongs (neighborhood) including ordinarily single-family detached ones, mainly multi-family houses, were the most often shared with other households even in the trend of the decreasing number of the detached housing. Further research is suggested to focus on housing circumstances of households sharing a detached dwelling in Dongs by the type of detached dwellings.
