This paper presents the construction results and design of the UNIST Reactor Innovation platform for small modular reactors as a versatile testbed for exploring innovative technologies. The platform uses simulant fluids to simulate the thermal-hydraulic behavior of a reference small modular reactor design, allowing for cost-effective design modifications. Scaling analysis results for single and two-phase natural circulation flows are outlined based on the three-level scaling methodology. The platform's capability to simulate natural circulation behavior was validated through performance calculations using the 1-D system thermal-hydraulic code-based calculation. The strategies for evaluating cutting-edge technologies, such as the integration of a solid oxide electrolysis cell for hydrogen production into a small modular reactor, are presented. To overcome experimental limitations, the hardware-in-the-loop technique is proposed as an alternative, enabling real-time simulation of physical phenomena that cannot be implemented within the experimental facility's hardware. Overall, the proposed versatile innovation platform is expected to provide valuable insights for advancing research in the field of small modular reactors and nuclear-based hydrogen production.

The liquid lead-bismuth cooled fast reactor has been in a single-phase, low-pressure, and high-temperature state for a long time during operation. Considering the requirement of calculation efficiency for long-term transient accident calculation, based on a homogeneous hydrodynamic model, one-dimensional heat conduction model, coolant flow and heat transfer model, neutron kinetics model, coolant and material properties model, this study used the fully implicit difference scheme algorithm of the convection-diffusion term to solve the basic conservation equation, to develop the transient analysis program NUSOL-LMR 2.0 for the lead-bismuth fast reactor system. The steady-state and typical design basis accidents (including reactivity introduction, loss of flow caused by main pump idling, excessive cooling, and plant power outage accidents) for the ABR have been analyzed. The results are compared with the international system analysis software ATHENA. The results indicate that the developed program can stably, accurately, and efficiently predict the transient accident response and safety characteristics of the lead-bismuth fast reactor system.
This research aims to remove nitrogen in the piggery wastewater by combined process with upflow anaerobic sludge blanket (UASB) and biofilm process. For the effective denitrification. anaerobic and anoxic reactors were connected to a reactor. The effluent of aerobix reactor was recycled equally with influent in the upper filter of anaerobic reactor for denitrification and outlet of UBF reactor was connected to the settling tank with $1.5{\;}{\ell}$ capacity and the settling sludge was repeatedly recycled to UASB zone. The organic loading rate of total reactor was operated from 0.4 to $3.1kgCOD/m^{3}/d$ and it was observed that the removal rate of TCOD was 80 to 95 percentage. Ammonia nitrogen was removed over 90 percentage in the less volumetric loading rate than $0.1{\;}kgN/m^{3}/d$. But because of non-limitation of organic materials, it was reduced to 70 percentage in the more volumetric loading rate than $0.6{\;}kgN/m^{3}/d$. But denitrification rate was observed 100 percentage in the all of loading rate. This is caused by the maintenance of optimum temperature, sufficient carbon source, and competition of electron acceptors. The results of COD mass balance at the $1.21{\;}kgCOD/m^{3}/d$ was observed with the 71.7% percentage of influent COD. It was revealed that the most part of organic materials was removed in the aerobic and the anaerobic reactor because 38.4 percentage was conversed into $CH_{4}$ gas and 11 percentage was removed in the aerobic reactor with cell synthesis and metabolism. Besides, 5.7% organics was used to denitrification reaction and 3.7% organics related to sulfate reduction.

When emergency core cooling system (ECCS) is operated during loss of coolant accident (LOCA) in a pressurized water reactor (PWR), pressurized thermal shock (PTS) phenomenon can occur as cooling water is injected into a cold leg, mixed with hot primary coolant, and then entrained into a reactor vessel. Insufficient flow mixing may cause temperature stratification and steam condensation. In addition, flow vibration may cause thermal stresses in surrounding structures. This will reduce the life of the reactor vessel. Due to the importance of PTS phenomenon, in this study, calculation was performed for Test 1 among six types of OECD/NEA ROSA tests with ANSYS CFX R.17. Predicted results were then compared to measured data. Additionally, because temperature difference between the hot coolant at the inlet of the cold leg and the cold cooling water at the inlet of the ECCS injection line is 200 K or more, buoyancy force due to density difference might have significant effect on thermal-hydraulic characteristics of flow. Therefore, in this study, the necessity to include buoyancy force term in governing equations for accurate prediction of single phase thermal stratification in both cold legs and downcomer by ECCS injection was numerically studied.

In general, a single-phase current-fed PWM inverter using IGBTs has some unique advantages for small scale distributed utility-interactive power supply system as compared with voltage-fed PWM inverter. In particular, this is more suitable and acceptable for a non-isolated type utility-interactive power conditioner, which is going to be widely used for residential solar photovoltaic (PV) power generation system in Japan. However, this current-fed PWM inverter has a significant disadvantage. The output current of this inverter includes large harmonic contents when the inductance of smoothing reactor in its DC side is not large enough to eliminate its current ripple components of this inverter. In order to overcome this problem, a new conceptual pulse area modulation scheme for this inverter is introduced in difference with conventional PWM strategy. This paper presents a new effective control implementation of this PV power conditioner which is able to reduce the harmonic component in the output current produced by the single-phase current-fed PWM inverter even when the ripple current in the smoothing DC reactor is relatively large. The operating principle of the proposed control strategy introdued for this inverter system is described, and its simulation results are evaluated and discussed herein.
Spacer grid with mixing vane had been widely used in nuclear reactor core. One of the main feather of spacer grid with mixing vane was that strong swirl flow was formed after the spacer grid. The swirl flow not only changed the bubble generation in the near wall field, but also affected the bubble behaviors in the center region of the subchannel. The interaction between bubble and the swirl flow was one of the basic phenomena for the two phase flow modeling in fuel assembly. To obatin better understanding on the bubble behaviors in swirl flow, full three dimension numerical simulations were conducted in the present paper. The swirl flow was assumed in the cylindral calculation domain. The bubble interface was captured by Volume Of Fluid (VOF) method. The properties of saturated water and steam at different pressure were applied in the simulation. The bubble trajectory, motion, shape and force were obtained based on the bubble parameters captured by VOF. The simulation cases in the present study included single bubble with different size, at different angular velocity conditions and at different pressure conditions. The results indicated that bubble migrated to the center in swirl flow with spiral motion type. The lateral migration was mainly related to shear stress magnitude and bubble size. The bubble moved toward the center with high velocity when the swirl magnitude was high. The largest bubble had the highest lateral migration velocity in the present study range. The effect of pressure was small when bubble size was the same. The prelimenery simulation result would be beneficial for better understanding complex two phase flow phenomena in fuel assembly with spacer grid.
As electric power systems grow to supply the increasing electric power demand short-circuit current tends to increase and impose a severe burden on circuit breakers and power system apparatuses. Thus, all electric equipment in a power system has to he designed to withstand the mechanical and thermal stresses of potential short-circuit currents. Among current limiting devices, Fault Current Limiter (FCL) is expected to reduce the short-circuit current. Especially, Superconducting Fault Current Limiters (SFCL) offer ideal performance: in normal operation the SFCL is in its superconducting state and has negligible impedance, in the event of a fault, the transition into the normal conducting state passively limits the current. The SFCL using high-temperature superconductors offers a positive resolution to controlling fault-current levels on utility distribution and transmission networks. This study contributes to the EMTDC based modeling and simulation method of DC Reactor type SFCL. Single and three phase faults in the utility system with DC reactor type SFCLs have been simulated using EMTDC in order to coordinate with other equipments, and the results are discussed in detail.
The MATRA-LMR code has been developed based on a subchannel analysis method for LMR (Liquid Metal Reactor) core subassembly thermal hydraulic design and analysis. The code was improved to allow a seven assembly calculation and can account for inter-assembly heat transfer based on a lumped parameter model. This paper describes the main modifications and improvements of the code and shows reference calculation results which compared single assembly calculation with seven assembly calculation cased for driver and blanket subassemblies of the KALIMER 150 MWe breakeven conceptual design core. KAL- IMER is a pool-type sodium cooled reactor with a thermal output of 392.0 MWth, which have inherently safe, environmentally friendly, proliferation-resistant and economically viable reactor concepts.

The paper presents a power supply of atmospheric-pressure plasma reactor based on SiC (Silicon Carbide) MOSFET resonant inverter. Thanks to the capacitive characteristic of capacitive coupling plasma reactor type, the LC series resonant inverter had been applied to take advantages of this topology with the implementation of SiC MOSFET power modules as switching power devices. Designation of gate driver for SiC MOSFET had been introduced by this paper. The 5kVp, 5kW power supply had also been verified by experimental results.
