  • A solar array simulator is a special power supply that regulates the output voltage and current to simulate the characteristics of a photovoltaic panel. The operating point of the panel is difficult to control with a single controller because of the non-linearity of the output curve, which is determined by the amount of irradiation, temperature, and panel material. In the conventional method, the output curve is divided into sections through the current and the voltage mode controls. It reduces the overall performance of the system due to the interchanging control mode. By using the single mode controller, the noise interference of the measured value and the stability of the control around the maximum power point were demonstrated. To solve these issues, this study proposes a new unified controller. The stability of the controller was analyzed along with operating principles, and performance improvement was experimentally verified.

  • Fetal DNA (fDNA) detection in maternal serum is a challenge due to low copy number and the smaller size of fDNA fragments compared to DNA fragments derived from the mother. Massively parallel sequencing (MPS) is a useful technique for fetal genetic analysis that is able to detect and quantify small amounts of DNA. In this study, seven clinical samples of maternal serum potentially containing fDNA were analyzed with a commercial single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) panel, the HID-Ion $AmpliSeq^{TM}$ Identity Panel, and the results were compared to those from previous studies. Reference profiles for mothers and fetuses were not available, but multiple Y chromosomal SNPs were detected in two samples, indicating that fDNA was present in the serum and thereby validating observations of autosomal SNPs. This suggests that SNP-based MPS can be valuable for fDNA detection, thereby offering an insight into fetal genetic status. This technology could also be used to detect small amounts of DNA in mixed DNA samples for forensic applications.

  • The aim of the present study is to compare sound performance depending on thickness, materials, and structure of polymer soundproof panels consisting of PC, PMMA, HDPE, and PP, respectively. As a result of comparing sound transmission loss (STL) of single layer panel made of four types of polymer, the better sound transmission loss was obtained in order of PC, PMMA, HDPE, and PP, which was obviously followed mass law. 8 mm of single panel showed 5~6 dB(A) greater STL than that of 4 mm panels and lower frequency for coincidence effect so that STL of 8 mm panels decreased around 4,000~5,000 Hz, indicating less STL of 4 mm panels than those of 8 mm. When it comes to structure, 4 mm panels with air layer appeared similar value of STL with 8 mm single panels under 300 Hz. In range of high frequency above 2,000 Hz, 4 mm panels with air layer performed better than 8 mm of single layer panel while resonance effects were observed at 500~630 Hz. It was found that these results could be practically utilized as fundamental data for noise barriers design considering the change to each condition.

  • A new plasma display panel sustaining driver using single side sustaining technique with the dual resonant method is proposed. Since this circuit enables to reduce switches in energy recovery circuit with keeping voltage stress like that of prior circuit, it can be low cost circuit comparing with a conventional driver. To integrate sustain function into one side with single power source in the driver, a charge pump method is adopted to make negative sustaining voltage and achieve dual resonant energy recovery on sustaining modes.

  • This study attemped to analyze the financial stati of single households. The financial stati of single households were analyzed using the income and expense stati, balance sheet status and selected financial ratios as components. The data of 757 single household's from the 1998 Korean Household Panel Study were utilized. The major findings are summarized as follows; 1. Male single households had higher income and expense stati than those of females but lower holdings of other asset with the exception of liquid assets. Single elderly households had the highest holdings of both real assets and debt. 2. Usually single households were retained more short-term than long-term liquid assets. The debt burden ability in using net assets was the lowest of all assets. To accumulate capital those in single household were more likely to have savings than investment assets.

  • A diarylurea compound 1 possessing pyrrolo[3,2-$c$]pyridine nucleus was designed and synthesized with structure similarity to Sorafenib. Compound 1 was tested over 60-cancer cell line panel at a single dose concentration of 10 ${\mu}M$ and showed high activity. It was further tested in a five-dose mode to determine its $IC_{50}$, TGI, and $LC_{50}$ values over the 60 cell lines. Compound 1 showed high potency and good efficacy, and was accordingly tested at a single dose concentration of 10 ${\mu}M$ over a panel of 40 kinases. At this concentration, it completely inhibited the enzymatic activities of a number of oncogenic kinases, including ABL, ALK, c-RAF, FLT3, KDR, and TrkB. The target compound was subsequently tested over these 6 kinases in 10-dose testing mode in order to determine its $IC_{50}$ values.

  • Effects of delay and panel temperature on the discharge time lag and the controllability of weak discharge mode were studied under single cell driving circumstances of ac PDP. It was found that sufficient number of priming particle is necessary for inducing weak discharge in ramp voltage driving. Discharge time lag was reduced dramatically under elevated panel temperature condition It is speculated that decrement of discharge time lag at the high temperature is related to the reduction of diffusion loss of charged particles during the after glow.

  • A tristate liquid crystal display characterized by two distinct dark states and one bright state has been presented. These two dark states contribute to two different viewing angles. We demonstrate a single panel of vertically aligned cell whose viewing angles can be directly selected from two sets of driving voltage.

  • A high performance and low cost single switch current fed energy recovery circuit (ERC) for an alternating current (AC) plasma display panel (PDP) is proposed. Since it is composed of only one power switch compared with the conventional circuit consisting of four power switches and two large energy recovery capacitors, the ERC features a simpler structure and lower cost. Furthermore, since all power switches can be switched under soft switching operating conditions, the proposed circuit has desirable merits such as increased reliability and low switching loss. Specifically, there are no serious voltage notches across the PDP with the aid of gas discharge current compensation, which can greatly reduce the current stress of all inverter switches, and provide those switches with the turn on timing margin. To confirm the validity of proposed circuit, its operation and performance were verified on a prototype for 7-inch test PDP.
