This paper analyses the relationship between the distribution of a dielectric layer on the apex of a metal field electron emitter and the distribution of electron emission. Emitters were prepared by coating a tungsten emitter with a layer of epoxylite resin. A high-resolution scanning electron microscope was used to monitor the emitter profile and measure the coating thickness. Field electron microscope studies of the emission current distribution from these composite emitters (Tungsten-Clark Electromedical Instruments Epoxylite resin [Tungsten/CEI-resin emitter]) have been carried out. Two forms of image have been observed: bright single-spot images, thought to be associated with a smooth substrate and a uniform dielectric layer; and multi-spot images, though to be associated with irregularity in the substrate or the dielectric layer.

We report the use of fluorene based copolymers containing quinoline(POF66, PIF66) and pyridine(PFPV) units as electron transporting polymers for multi-layered LEDs. Double-layer device structure combining PIF66 as electron-transporting layer with the emissive MEHPPV showed a maximum quantum efficiency of 0.03%, which is 30 fold increased compared with ITO/MEHPPV/Al single-layer device. PFPV layer increased the quantum efficiency up to 0.1% in the device structure of ITO/(P-3:PVK)/PFPV/Al. The ETL with the electron deficient moiety improved the LED performance by the characteristics of electron transporting as well as hole blocking between emissive layer and metal cathode.

Zinc oxide micro rods were fabricated using as chemical bath deposition ok photolithography. Vertically aligned Zinc Oxide rod array as grown by chemical bath deposition method on Zinc Oxide template layer. The ZnO template layer was deposited on glass and the pattering was made by standard photolithography technique. The selective growth of ZnO micro rods were achieved with the masked ZnO template layer substrate. The fabricated ZnO micro rods were found to be single crystalline and have grown along hexagonal c-axis direction of (0002) which is same as the preferred growth orientation of ZnO template layer. The ZnO micro-rod array structure was implemented as a window layer in Cu(InGa)Se2 solar cell and its effect on photovoltaic efficiency was examined.

The sputtering systems mainly consist of the three-target holder. The target and substrate were the on-axis type. The MgO and STO substrate were used for the deposition of each layer. The optimum conditions of single-layer thin film were investigated from the SEM images and the XRD patterns. Based on the above conditions, the multi-layer thin films such as YBaCuO/LaGaO/Au/Nb and YBaCuO/Au/Nb were fabricated. The crystalline, the electrical Properties, the energy gap structure and the characteristics of the tunneling barrier on the multi-layer thin film have been investigated and characterized.

This Paper shows the results of a series of model tests on the behavior of single rigid Pile, which subjected to lateral load, in non-homogeneous Nak-Dong River sands, consisted of two layers, upper and lower layers. The purpose of the present paper is to investigate the effect of ratio of lower layer thickness to embedded pile length ratio of soil modules of upper to lower layer (E$\sub$h1//E$\sub$h2/) and pile head constraint condition on the characteristics of lateral behavior of single pile. These effects can be quantified only by the results of model tests. As a model test result, in non-homogeneous sand, it shows that the lateral behavior depends upon the ratio of soil modules of upper to lower layer more than other factors. And, in respect of deflection, it was found that the reduction ratio of deflection by pile head fixity is the value of 0.5 and 0.6 for E$\sub$h1//E$\sub$h2/=0.18 and E$\sub$h1//E$\sub$h2/=5.56, respectively. The critical thickness of lower layer on the change of deflection is about 25 - 50% of pile embedded length. Also, in respect of maximum bending moment it was found that the reduction ratio of maximum bending moment by pile head fixity is the value of 0.55 and 0.7 for E$\sub$h1//E$\sub$h2/=0.18 and E$\sub$h1//E$\sub$h2/=5.56, respectively.

This study was carried out to design a bridge-type ecological corridor plan in a forested neighborhood park affected by road construction in Dongjak-gu, Seoul. In order to study the site conditions, we analyzed topography, ecosystem structure, and user behavior and trail use. Existing vegetation was classified into 12 types. Based on a vegetation analysis, the Populus albaglandulosa and Robinia pseudoacacia communities, where planted species are dominant, were distributed extensively in the southern forest area. Planted areas with a single-layer structure of Korean landscape woody plants and Robinia pseudoacacia communities with a single-layer structure were distributed extensively in the northern forest and water-supply area. Based on a study of 28 quadrats, the similarity index between the multi-layer plant communities distributed in the southern forest and the single-layer planted areas was low. Twenty-four species of wild birds(355 individuals) were found in the survey area, including nine interior species and three urban species. The study of user behavior and numbers showed most users were walkers and few users were observed in the southern forest while most users were observed in the northern forest and water supply area. We selected some wild birds as model species to represent migrating species believed to use this park as an ecological corridor during migration. We suggested the new park plan include the following: improvement of vegetation structure for wildbird migration and habitat, connection of park trails for users and presentation of a landscape linked to nature.

Separate and layered transmitting and receiving spiral coil arrays had been used for the optimized individual applications of magnetostrictive type long-range ultrasonic testing. In this study, it was demonstrated that when taking advantages of the spiral coils with the leg width reduced to be half of the previous one and of the empty spaces due to the decrease of leg width, the transmitting and receiving coil array can be arranged to form a single layer structure allowing more easy use and fabrication. Because of the number of turns of the receiving coils that is proportional to their leg width, the sensitivity of the single layer coil array was about half that of the corresponding double layer coil array while it allowed the receiving amplifier to get faster recovery from a saturation due to the main bang echo. It was also found that the two types of coil arrays have almost the same performances in the view points of signal-to-noise ratio and directivity control.

We have studied feasibility of single-layer second-order $high-T_c$ SQUID gradiometers in magnetocardiography. We have measured human cardiomagnetic signals using a short-baseline (5.8 mm) single-layer second-order YBCO gradiometer in partially shielded environments. The gradiometer has an overall size of $17.6\;mm{\times}6\;mm$ and contains three parallel-connected pickup coils which are directly coupled to a step-edge junction SQUID. The gradiometer showed an unshielded gradient noise of $0.84\;pT/cm^2/Hz^{1/2}$ at 1 Hz, which corresponds to an equivalent field noise of $280\;fT/Hz^{1/2}$. The balancing factor was $10^3$. Based on the same design rules as the short-baseline devices, we have studied fabrication of 30 mm-long baseline gradiometers. The devices had an overall size of $70.2\;mm{\times}10.6\;mm$ with each pickup coil of $10\;mm{\times}10\;mm$ in outer size. As Josephson elements we made two types of submicron bridges, which are variable thickness bridge (VTB) and constant thickness bridge (CTB), from $3\;{\mu}m-wide$ and 300 nm-thick YBCO lines with a thin layer of Au on top by using a focused ion beam (FIB) patterning method. VTB was 300 nm wide, 200 nm thick, 30 nm long with Au removed and CTB 100 nm wide and 30 nm long. In temperature-dependent critical currents, $I_c(T)$, VTB showed an nonmetallic barrier-type behavior and CTB an SNS behavior. We believe that those characteristics are ascribed to naturally formed grain boundaries crossing the bridges.

Since first discovery of strong Raman spectrum of molecules adsorbed on rough noble metal, surface enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) has been widely used for detection of molecules with low concentration. Surface plasmons at noble metal can enhance Raman spectrum and using Au nanostructures as substrates of SERS has advantages due to it has chemical stability and biocompatibility. However, the photoluminescence (PL) background from Au remains a problem because of obtaining molecular vibration information. Recently, graphene, two-dimensional atomic layer of carbon atoms, is also well known as PL quenchers for electronic and vibrational excitation. In this study, we observed SERS of single layer graphene on or under monolayer of Au nanoparticles (NPs). Single layer graphene is grown by chemical vapor deposition and transferred onto or under the monolayer of Au NPs by using PMMA transfer method. Monolayer of Au NPs prepared using Langmuir-Blodgett method on or under graphene surface provides closed and well-packed monolayer of Au NPs. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and Raman spectroscopy (WItec, 532 nm) were performed in order to confirm effects of Au NPs on enhanced Raman spectrum. Highly enhanced Raman signal of graphene by Au NPs were observed due to many hot-spots at gap of closed well-packed Au NPs. The results showed that single layer graphene provides larger SERS effects compared to multilayer graphene and the enhancement of the G band was larger than that of 2D band. Moreover, we confirm the appearance of D band in this study that is not clear in normal Raman spectrum. In our study, D band appearance is ascribed to the SERS effect resulted from defects induced graphene on Au NPs. Monolayer film of Au NPs under the graphene provided more highly enhanced graphene Raman signal compared to that on the graphene. The Au NPs-graphene SERS substrate can be possibly applied to biochemical sensing applications requiring highly sensitive and selective assays.
$SnO_2$ single layer films and 2 nm thick Ni thin film intermediated $AZO/Ni/SnO_2$ trilayer films were deposited on glass substrate at room temperatures by RF and DC magnetron sputtering and then the optical and electrical properties of the films were investigated to enhance opto-electrical performance of $SnO_2$ single layer films. As deposited $SnO_2$ films show the optical transmittance of 81.8% in the visible wavelength region and a resistivity of $1.2{\times}10^{-2}{\Omega}cm$, while $AZO/Ni/SnO_2$ films show a lower resistivity of $5.8{\times}10^{-3}{\Omega}cm$ and an optical transmittance of 77.1% in this study. Since $AZO/Ni/SnO_2$ films show the higher figure of merit than that of the $SnO_2$ single layer films, it is supposed that the $AZO/Ni/SnO_2$ films can assure high opto-electrical performance for use as a transparent conducting oxide in various display applications.
