  • SOFC system is often subject to thermal cycle condition during normal start/stop, shutdown, and emergence state. Under the thermal cycle condition of heating and cooling, the SOFC components expand or shrink, which produces thermal stress and thermal shock. The SOFC performance is degraded by the thermal factors. To protect SOFC system from the thermal degradation, the optimum thermal condition must be clarified. In this study, to examine the thermal cycle characteristics, we fabricated single cells of planar SOFC with an area of $5{\times}5cm$. The electrolyte and PEN were tested under thermal cycle conditions in the range of$ 2-8^{\circ}C/min$. After thermal cycle test. crack creation of the components were examined using ultraviolet apparatus. No crack in the electrolyte and PEN were observed. The single cell system with alumina frame were also tested under thermal cycle conditions of 2, 3, $4^{\circ}C/min$. The single cell was fractured at the thermal cycle of 3 and $4^{\circ}C/min$ and the optimum condition of the thermal cycle to be found below $2^{\circ}C/min$.

  • This paper explains control methods of single-phase grid connected battery charger. Charging mode is control by Constant Current - Constant Voltage method and discharging mode is controlled by active-reactive power control method. Current control method is based on the synchronous reference frame(SRF) PI controller, and the second harmonic of battery current is compensated by an added L-C resonant circuit. Feasibility of the proposed control methods is verified through experiment with a prototype of 5kW single-phase grid connected battery charger.

  • In order to meet the harmonics standards such as IEEE 519 and P1547 the output quality of a grid connected inverter should satisfy a certain level of Total Harmonic Distortion (THD) value. However, the output quality of an inverter gets degraded due to the grid voltage harmonics, the dead time effects and the nonlinearity of the switches, which all contributes to a higher THD value of the output. In order to meet the required THD value for the inverter output under the distorted grid condition the use of harmonic controller is essential. In this paper a novel feedforward harmonic compensation method is proposed in order to effectively eliminate the low order harmonics in the inverter current to the grid. In the proposed method, unlike the conventional harmonic control methods, the hamonic components are directly compensated by the feedforward terms generated by the PR controller with the grid current in the stationary frame. The proposed method is simple in implementation but powerful in eliminating the harmonics from the output. The effectiveness of proposed method is verified through the PSIM simulation and the experiments with a 5kW single phase grid connected inverter.

  • Open reading frame 29 (ha29) is a gene specific for Helicoverpa armigera single-nucleocapsid nucleopolyhedrovirus (HearSNPV). Sequence analyses showed that the transcription factor Tfb2 motif, bromodomain and Half-A-TPR (HAT) repeat were present at aa 66-82, 4-76, 55-90 of the Ha29 protein respectively. The product of Ha29 was detected in HearSNPV-infected HzAM1 cells at 3 h post-infection. Western blot analysis using a polyclonal antibody produced by immunizing a rabbit with purified GST-Ha29 fusion protein indicates that Ha29 is an early gene. The size of Ha29 product in infected HzAM1 cells was about 25 kDa, which was larger than the presumed size of 20.4 kDa. Tunicamycin treatment of HearSNPV-infected HzAM1 cells suggested that the Ha29 protein is N-glycosylated. Fluorescent confocal laser scanning microscope examination, and Western blot analysis of purified budded virus (BVs), occlusion-derived virus (ODVs), cell nuclear and cytoplasmic fraction, showed that the Ha29 protein was localized in the nucleus. Our results suggested that ha29 of HearSNPV encodes a non-structurally functional protein that may be associated with virus gene transcription in Helicoverpa hosts.

  • Grid Connected inverter is produced current to deliver power to grid. To provide low THD current, LCL filters is effective to filter high frequency component of current output from inverter. To provide sinusoidal waveform, there are many researchers have been proposed several controllers for grid-connected inverter controllers. Synchronous Reference Frame (SRF)-based controller is the most popular methods. SRF-based controller is capable for reducing both of zero-steady state error and phase delay. But SRF based controller is contained cross-coupling components, which generate some difficulties to analyze. In this paper, SRF based controller is analyzed. By applying decoupling control, cross-coupling component is eliminated and single phase model of the system is obtained. Through this single phase model, gain controller is designed. To reduce steady state error, proportional gain is set as high as possible, but it may produce instability. To compromise between a minimum steady state error and stability, the single phase model is evaluate through Root Locus and Bode diagram. PSIM simulation is used to verify the analysis.

  • In this paper, a single N+ emitter trench gate-type insulated gate bipolar transistor (IGBT) device was studied using T-CAD, in order to achieve a low on-state voltage drop (Vce-sat) and high breakdown voltage, which would reduce power loss and device reliability. Using the simulation, the threshold voltage, breakdown voltage, and on-state voltage drop were studied as a function of the temperature, the length of time in the diffusion process (drive-in) after implant, and the trench gate depth. During the drive-in process, a $20^{\circ}C$ change in temperature from 1,000 to $1,160^{\circ}C$ over a 150 minute time frame resulted in a 1 to 4 V change in the threshold voltage and a 24 to 2.6 V change in the on-state voltage drop. As a result, a 0.5 um change in the trench depth of 3.5 to 7.5 um resulted in the breakdown voltage decreasing from 802 to 692 V.

  • Grid-connected inverters should satisfy a certain level of total harmonic distortion (THD) to meet harmonics standards, such as IEEE 519 and P1547. The output quality of an inverter is typically degraded due to grid voltage harmonics, dead time effects, and the device's turn-on/turn-off delay, which all contribute to increasing the THD value of the output. The use of a harmonic controller is essential to meet the required THD value for inverter output under a distorted grid condition. In this study, an improved feedforward harmonic compensation method is proposed to effectively eliminate low-order harmonics in the inverter current to the grid. In the proposed method, harmonic components are directly compensated through feedforward terms generated by the proportional resonant controller with the grid current in a stationary frame. The proposed method is simple to implement but powerful in eliminating harmonics from the output. The effectiveness of the proposed method is verified through simulation using PSIM software and experiments with a 5 kW single-phase grid-connected inverter.

  • Structural vibrations generated by earthquakes and wind loads can be controlled by varying the structural parameters such as mass, stiffness, damping ratio, and geometry and providing a certain amount of passive or active reaction forces. A Double-Tuned Mass Dampers (DTMDs) system, which is simple and more effective than the conventional single tuned mass damper (TMD) system for vibration mitigation is presented. Two TMDs tuned to the first two natural frequencies were used to control vibrations. Experimental investigations were carried out on a three degrees-of-freedom frame model to investigate the effectiveness of DTMDs systems in controlling displacements, accelerations, and base shear. Numerical models were developed and validated against the experimental results. The validation showed a good match between the experimental and numerical results. The validated model was employed to investigate the behavior of a five degrees-of-freedom shear building structure, wherein mass dampers with different mass ratios were considered. The effectiveness of the DTMDs system was investigated for harmonic, seismic, and white noise base excitations. The proposed system was capable of significantly reducing the story displacements, accelerations, and base shears at the first and second natural frequencies, as compared to conventional single TMD.

  • In this study, we apply a deep learning model to denoising solar magnetograms. For this, we design a model based on conditional generative adversarial network, which is one of the deep learning algorithms, for the image-to-image translation from a single magnetogram to a denoised magnetogram. For the single magnetogram, we use SDO/HMI line-of-sight magnetograms at the center of solar disk. For the denoised magnetogram, we make 21-frame-stacked magnetograms at the center of solar disk considering solar rotation. We train a model using 7004 paris of the single and denoised magnetograms from 2013 January to 2013 October and test the model using 1432 pairs from 2013 November to 2013 December. Our results from this study are as follows. First, our model successfully denoise SDO/HMI magnetograms and the denoised magnetograms from our model are similar to the stacked magnetograms. Second, the average pixel-to-pixel correlation coefficient value between denoised magnetograms from our model and stacked magnetogrmas is larger than 0.93. Third, the average noise level of denoised magnetograms from our model is greatly reduced from 10.29 G to 3.89 G, and it is consistent with or smaller than that of stacked magnetograms 4.11 G. Our results can be applied to many scientific field in which the integration of many frames are used to improve the signal-to-noise ratio.

  • Small area and low power implementation are important requirements for various multimedia processing hardware, especially for mobile environment. This paper presents a hardware architecture of H.264/AVC Intra Prediction module aiming on small area and low power. A single arithmetic unit was shared and processed sequentially for all mode decisions and computations to predict an image frame. As a result, we could get smaller area and smaller memory size compared to other existing implementations. The proposed architecture was verified using the Altera Excalibur device, and the implemented hardware has been described in Verilog-HDL and synthesized on Samsung STD130 0.18um CMOS Standard Cell Library using Synopsys Design Compiler. The synthesis result was about 11.9K logic gates and 1078 byte internal SRAM and the maximum operating frequency was 107Mhz. It consumes 879,617 clocks to process one QCIF frame, which means it can process 121.5 QCIF$(176\times144)$ frames per second, therefore it shows that it can be used for real time H.264/AVC encoding of various multimedia applications.
