In this paper, an Embedded solution for fast navigation and precise positioning of mobile robots by floor features is introduced. Most of navigation systems tend to require high-performance computing unit and high quality sensor data. They can produce high accuracy navigation systems but have limited application due to their high cost. The introduced navigation system is designed to be a low cost solution for a wide range of applications such as toys, mobile service robots and education. The key design idea of the system is a simple localization approach using line features of the floor and delayed localization strategy using topological map. It differs from typical navigation approaches which usually use Simultaneous Localization and Mapping (SLAM) technique with high latency localization. This navigation system is implemented on single board Raspberry Pi B+ computer which has 1.4 GHz processor and Redone mobile robot which has maximum speed of 1.1 m/s.

Recently, quantitative and repetitive inspections of the old urban area were conducted because many structures exceed their designed lifetime. The health of a building can be validated from the condition of the outer wall, while the slant angle of the wall widely serves as an indicator of urban regeneration projects. Mostly, the inspector directly measures the inclination of the wall or partially uses 3D point measurements using a static light detection and ranging (LiDAR). These approaches are costly, time-consuming, and only limited space can be measured. Therefore, we propose a mobile mapping system and automatic slant map generation algorithm, configured to capture urban environments online. Additionally, we use the LiDAR-inertial mapping algorithm to construct raw point clouds with gravity information. The proposed method extracts walls from raw point clouds and measures the slant angle of walls accurately. The generated slant angle map is evaluated in indoor and outdoor environments, and the accuracy is compared with real tiltmeter measurements.

This paper is presented simultaneous localization and mapping (SLAM) based on feature map and path-planning using modified genetic algorithm for efficient driving of autonomous vehicle. The biggest problem for autonomous vehicle from now is environment adaptation. There are two cases that its new location is recognized in the new environment and is identified under unknown or new location in the map related kid-napping problem. In this paper, SLAM based on feature map using ultrasonic sensor is proposed to solved the environment adaptation problem in autonomous driving. And a modified genetic algorithm employed to optimize path-planning. We designed and built an autonomous vehicle. The proposed algorithm is applied the autonomous vehicle to show the performance. Experimental result, we verified that fast optimized path-planning and efficient SLAM is possible.

In this paper, we proposed an autonomous vehicle platform that delivers goods to a designated destination based on the SLAM (Simultaneous Localization and Mapping) map generated indoors by applying the Visual SLAM technology. To generate a SLAM map indoors, a depth camera for SLAM map generation was installed on the top of a small autonomous vehicle platform, and a tracking camera was installed for accurate location estimation in the SLAM map. In addition, a convolutional neural network (CNN) was used to recognize the label of the destination, and the driving algorithm was applied to accurately arrive at the destination. A prototype of an indoor delivery autonomous vehicle was manufactured, and the accuracy of the SLAM map was verified and a destination label recognition experiment was performed through CNN. As a result, the suitability of the autonomous driving vehicle implemented by increasing the label recognition success rate for indoor delivery purposes was verified.

Acquiring indoor point cloud, using SLAM (Simultaneous Localization and Mapping) based mobile mapping system, is an element progress for development of as-build BIM (Building Information Model) for the maintenance of the building. In this research we proposed a simulation-based target geometry determination for extrinsic calibration of multiple 2D laser scanning mobile system. Four different types of calibration sites were designed: (1) circle type; (2) rectangle type; (3) double circle type; and (4) double rectangle type. Based on the measurement values obtained from each simulated calibration site geometry, least squares solution based extrinsic calibration was derived. As a result, the rectangle type geometry is most suitable for extrinsic calibration of this system. Also, correlation values between extrinsic calibration parameters were high, and calibration results were distinct according to the calibration sites.

The technique of simultaneous localization and mapping is the most important research topic in mobile robotics. In the process of building a map in its available memory, the robot memorizes environmental information on the plane of grid or topology. Several approaches about this technique have been presented so far, but most of them use mapping technique as either grid-based map or topology-based map. In this paper we propose a frame of solving the SLAM problem of linking map covering, map building, localizing, path finding and obstacle avoiding in an automatic way. Some algorithms integrating grid and topology map are considered and this make the SLAM performance faster and more stable. The proposed scheme uses an occupancy grid map in representing the environment and then formulate topological information in path finding by A${\ast}$ algorithm. The mapping process is shown and the shortest path is decided on grid based map. Then topological information such as direction, distance is calculated on simulator program then transmitted to robot hardware devices. The localization process and the dynamic obstacle avoidance can be accomplished by topological information on grid map. While mapping and moving, pose of the robot is adjusted for correct localization by implementing additional pixel based image layer and tracking some features. A laser range finer and electronic compass systems are implemented on the mobile robot and DC geared motor wheels are individually controlled by the adaptive PD control method. Simulations and experimental results show its performance and efficiency of the proposed scheme are increased.

RFID system can be used to improve object recognition, map building and localization for robot area. A novel method of indoor navigation system for a mobile robot is proposed using RFID technology. The mobile robot With a RFID reader and antenna is able to find what obstacles are located where in circumstance and can build the map similar to indoor circumstance by combining RFID information and distance data obtained from sensors. Using the map obtained, the mobile robot can avoid obstacles and finally reach the desired goal by $A^*$ algorithm. 3D map which has the advantage of robot navigation and manipulation is able to be built using z dimension of products. The proposed robot navigation system is proved to apply for SLAM and path planning in unknown circumstance through numerous experiments.

In this paper, a SLAM (Simultaneous Localization and Mapping) method using a single camera and planar fiducial markers is proposed. Fiducial markers are planar patterns that are mounted on the ceiling or wall. Each fiducial marker has a unique hi-tonal identification pattern with square outlines. It can be printed on paper to reduce cost or it can be painted using retro-reflective paint in order to make invisible and prevent undesirable visual effects. Existing localization methods using artificial landmarks have the disadvantage that landmark locations must be known a priori. In contrast, the proposed method can build a map and estimate robot location even if landmark locations are not known a priori. Hence, it reduces installation time and setup cost. The proposed method works good even when only one fiducial marker is seen at a scene. We perform computer simulation to evaluate proposed method.

When a mobile mapping system or a robot is equipped with only a GPS (Global Positioning System) and multiple stereo camera system, a transformation from a local camera coordinate system to GPS coordinate system is required to link camera poses and 3D data by V-SLAM (Vision based Simultaneous Localization And Mapping) to GIS data or remove the accumulation error of those camera poses. In order to satisfy the requirements, this paper proposed a novel method that calculates a camera rotation in the GPS coordinate system using the three pairs of camera positions by GPS and V-SLAM, respectively. The propose method is composed of four simple steps; 1) calculate a quaternion for two plane's normal vectors based on each three camera positions to be parallel, 2) transfer the three camera positions by V-SLAM with the calculated quaternion 3) calculate an additional quaternion for mapping the second or third point among the transferred positions to a camera position by GPS, and 4) determine a final quaternion by multiplying the two quaternions. The final quaternion can directly transfer from a local camera coordinate system to the GPS coordinate system. Additionally, an update of the 3D data of captured objects based on view angles from the object to cameras is proposed. This paper demonstrated the proposed method through a simulation and an experiment.

In this paper, we proposed ultrasonic radar module and fixed module for the 2D indoor map building and from each of the modules, we can see the possibilities, limitations and considerations. And finally show the result of building actual 2D indoor map from the modules. Recently there are lots of works for the building indoor map by spotlight on the simultaneous localization and mapping (SLAM). And the LiDAR, ultrasonic, camera sensors are usually used for this work. Especially the LiDAR sensor have a higher resolution and wider detection range more than the ultrasonic sensor, but also there are limitation in the size of module, higher cost, much more throughput of processing data, and weaker to use in various indoor environment noises. So from these reasons, in this paper we could verify that proposed modules and schemes have a enough performance to build the 2D indoor map instead of using LiDAR and camera sensor with minimum number of ultrasonic sensors and less throughput of processing data.
